281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH network hashrate going to the moon!!!! on: September 27, 2019, 03:42:01 AM
Innosilicon just released a 500 mhs miner at 750 watts, no sure who is buying a it with progpow algo change.

They didn't just release it... it's been available for over a year

This is probably why ETH value has gone to the dumps. I've always been a strong supporter of ETH but they never deliver or follow through on their promised timelines. They said they would switch to POS very soon, three years ago. There seems to be little progress to make ETH really competitive on a global scale.

Theres always hope in the future ETH will rise again, but at this rate, it may be better to invest on other things for now.
282  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: NiceHash Miner - Is there anything better to use? on: September 27, 2019, 03:37:16 AM
I've been running the nicehash miner with (2) GTX 970s because that's all I have at this point. Is there a better alternative? The algo switching function is nice. I don't expect to profit much. It's really a trade off of electrical bill vs small amounts of bitcoin daily. Like a really lazy way to spend $0.50 a day investing in BTC.

Running more power efficient algos has been the key to generating anything of value.

With GTX 970s your not just trading electrical bills to bitcoin daily. You're losing more money because the GTX 970 has very poor efficiency in terms of mining. Before you go on and start looking for efficient mining software and all that, make sure you have the right hardware in the first place.

You are better off buying $0.50 bitcoin daily instead of mining with your 970.
283  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining rig frame for 3 rigs on: July 12, 2019, 08:23:35 AM
Haven't used it but did use similar ones like it. It will depend on the type of GPU you have (does they run hot? reference/blower model? single fan? etc..) but generally when you have GPUs so close to each other, you install aux fans. So thats why there are holes on each row, for the fans.

But then additional fans mean more power consumed and less profit. Also, DIY rig racks/cases are always cheaper. You don't need fancy rig cases like this to mine.
284  Economy / Services / Re: [WTB] Beta-Reader For Bitcoin Book on: July 09, 2019, 03:36:44 AM
I love reading about bitcoin and I'd be willing to get paid for three chapters.

Unlike the previous two, I can offer the perspective of a "normie" or someone whos knows a thing or two about tech (i'm a software developer) but not really much into the technical details of bitcoin.
285  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: +50% hash rate - Immersion cooling mining farm on: July 08, 2019, 12:38:12 AM
Really awesome idea. I think this uses mineral oil? This is obviously not for your average decentralized home miner tho as from the looks of it alone the setup must cost quite a lot. I wonder what the vets on this board have to say about this.

Looking forward to seeing the math and profitability behind building an operation like this.
286  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is it possible to start something with what I have? on: July 05, 2019, 04:23:36 AM
The simplest miner that can get u going by simply downloading and running is probably Nicehash.

You're lucky that you have authorization, but make sure you've discussed the risks to whomever authorized you. For one, the CPUs will be running at full force meaning they will consume more power and temperature will be much hotter. There is a risk that if your CPUs are not well ventilated they will overheat and die. Even if they don't overheat enough to die, the lifespan of those CPUs will still probably decline still because of heavy usage.
287  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Buying P106 mining cards and driver compatibility on: July 01, 2019, 02:42:20 AM
Thanks for the info guys! Just an update, i pulled the trigger thanks to your advice and was able to buy 6 pieces of these P106s. Was able to run them alongside my rtx 2060 using latest drivers. Each P106 is now earning around $0.50 per day. If all goes well i'll be able to achieve ROI on 1 GPU per month.

Dirt cheap second hand GPUs aren't so bad  Cheesy
288  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Newer AMD AND NVIDIA cards vs. GTX1080 on: June 26, 2019, 01:37:40 PM
I don't get it. When some of you are buying like new GTX 1660 Ti and RTX 2060/2070. When you could get like a GTX 1070/1080 for much cheaper, used? They perform almost equal like 1660 Ti/2060, but at a much lower price. Not much diffence in power consumsion..

Atleast here in Sweden the prices of 1660 Ti is about $320ish new, and you could get a used GTX 1070 for like $210-220. Don't know how there is in other countries though. About the 1660s you also get only 6 GB so you can't mine some algos.

I like to hear your thoughts about it Smiley

I'm guessing people are going for newer GPUs because of 2 things primarily..

1. Power efficiency - when you do the math in scales, same/better hashrates with less 10 watts expense makes a world of difference
2. Risk and Resale value - newer models have less chance or breaking down and completely losing value and can easily be sold to gamers
289  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Buying P106 mining cards and driver compatibility on: June 24, 2019, 06:01:54 AM
Recently some P106 mining cards have gone up for sale locally for only $55 (sale!).

I'm thinking of buying a few pieces but my concern is will they work with newer NVIDIA drivers? Specifically NVIDIA driver versions 400+?
If i remember correctly the P106 mining drivers were only using NVIDIA driver version 380-391.

Can't find any answers from google but does anyone have any experience making these work (specifically adjusting clock/power settings with newer drivers)?
I don't want to downgrade drivers because i'm also mining with some new RTX 2060s and likely these need the new NVIDIA drivers.
290  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RVN GPU ROI Mining Analysis - (Updated) on: June 24, 2019, 03:30:16 AM
Nice stats WickedPigeon, the sheet looks clean and simple to follow. I also love how it's regularly updated.

Since you're tabulating NVIDIA cards anyway, have you considered adding the P106 mining card? Could be nice to see too considering it's now being sold at our local group for only $55 each Cheesy
291  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining ETH is now no profit on: May 29, 2019, 04:02:00 PM
Based on the latest valuations (ETH @ $272) and whattomine.com, mining is again (but temporarily) profitable.

Mining with an old 1060 at $0.1 electricity cost will net you $0.3 per day, or around $9 a month. Should you invest in new mining equipment? Probably not.
At those rates you're still looking at around 16 months ROI and a lot can happen. Like they say "just buy the coin" if you want to speculate and invest.

294  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Putting idle money to work... Free Electricity- What GPU Mining Rigs to build? on: April 23, 2019, 02:06:49 AM

Agreed, I'm not much worried about the ROI.

Huh? But you should be worried about ROI. You do realize that until you reach ROI you are NOT actually making any money. You are not putting any money to work yet because all you did was spend your money. I'd suggest putting more thought into this. There are a lot of risks involved and you could end up losing money instead of "earning passive income."

Anyway, i'd suggest using 1080ti's or 1060s. NVIDIA is much easier to maintain and profit margins now are slightly better than AMD's.
295  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wow! Exchanges track how you spend btc! on: April 22, 2019, 07:51:38 AM
No surprise here. Companies collect your data, even in crypto.

Heck they even offer to pay people to do it and people willingly accept. E.g. membership reward cards and all those reward point schemes. You get points discounts and freebies as the cost of the company collecting data on what where and how you buy things. They use data to control consumers.

If privacy is the goal then truly decentralized and privacy centered crypto is the way to go.
296  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: My $36,000 Invesment Turned Out Now $12,000 - Still Holding on: April 22, 2019, 07:23:30 AM
But my question to all those investors, do you believe in crypto? If you do then hold tight because good days will come, if you are not in need an emergency cash, then hold your coin, It can't be red all days, it will be green. have some faith in this industry. I know it's hard seeing the bloodbath, what's happening, but we will rise again.

That's a larger investment than the average crypto investor would have made. Could have bought a nice BMW 3-series sport model with it!

But i completely agree with you. Just hold and know that crypto has value becomes it has the potential to change how the world works. Maybe not now, but eventually, the value and utility of crypto will be realized and early investors will be rewarded. Buy the dip and hold!
297  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Etherium 1000 $ is a dream to everyone ! on: April 22, 2019, 06:48:52 AM
I'm all for crypto and the growth and adoption of ETH. However, ETH at $1000++ really sounds like a pipe dream right now.

Despite ETH having good fundamentals and great adoption, there is no easy way for it to break through all the sell walls right now. ETH going to $1000+ would mean the whole crypto market would have to rise and reach heights like December 2017. Far from happening, but a man can dream.
298  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Start Mining MIB Coin on your smart phone. on: April 22, 2019, 06:26:56 AM
This thread could also be called "Start destroying your smart phone's battery."

I'd be careful with mobile mining. Mobile phones weren't meant to compute transactions that much for long periods of time. Side effects of such would cause your phone battery to overheat and eventually shorten and shorten it's lifespan if it doesn't explode.

Besides, how can this be mobile only when you can easily simulate a mobile OS on a computer and then mine from there?
299  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Are Mining Still Profit? on: April 22, 2019, 06:05:16 AM
I was right. Google can find anything today.

Today if you earn $1000 per month mining, you have to pay $1200 on electricity if 0.10 per kwh, that is 20% loss already plus all the hassle and problems, imagine if your house is burnt because of it or some other terrible thing happen. Truth is, mining is only profitable if it gives the return of your investment in less than 100 days which is not the case. The $200 loss could have used to buy coins instead of paying for electricity, matter of fact all the $1200 could have used to buy coins now when is cheap and relax on your sofa and wait till this market becomes super bull and then you get from 10 to 50 times the money you invested.

People have been banned for less on the "meta" sub forum here. It's probably worth a report if the person is trying to make money using your content. But that is up to you.

And yes, google can find anything, but they still think i'm a bot and keep asking me to do captchas. FFS

300  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do not invest in ICO anymore. Do not Feed scammers on: April 22, 2019, 05:36:51 AM
The World Do not need new tokens at all. We got enough shitcoin for next 100 years.

I completely agree. The amount of coins out there is insane. It's quite sad to think how many people are lured and scammed into buying these so called "new and innovative" projects. I do hope more people start being more aware of how and what crypto scams look like.

Once people start learning more about how these scams work the healthier crypto will be. So here is a bump for this thread. Let's all help increase awareness.
