POS is the same thing as if you would put your money in the bank and leave it there for an interest. So it has nothing to do with "mining". FYI
Well not really unless you are doing POS with a third party service. Real POS involves having a dedicated computer/server turned on 24/7 to also validate any transactions that are sent your way. So technically, yes, it is still mining, mining transactions at the cost of "staking" your coins in case you try and do anything something malicious. POS could be the future, but until real coins like ETH implement it, i wouldn't decide anything yet. |

I was also thinking you could look at mining difficulty at that time frame then use the formula to compute how much coins you would be mining with a given hashrate. But i guess looking at electrical consumption would be simpler for non-crypto to understand. |

One other option. Get some big electric extension cords / net metering and sell that 20 kw back to the grid
20kw at 12 cents per kWh is about 21,000$ a year. You won’t get that though depending on local laws you might on net metering plans
25 x l3+ antminers in free electricity of 20 kw earns about $15k right now less cost of 25 antminers ($3k used on eBay) So net $12k year one
You are better off selling the electricity to neighbors if you can back feed it some how like solar net metered services include
If you go crazy and put out in some bigger miners that cost way more up front and longer roi maybe you can out pace that for profit of just selling the the electricity
Sell back electricity to the person who gave it to you for free! This is actually an awesome idea in theory. Not sure how and why power companies would allow it though, because even with solar net metering setups, the power companies are thorough and inspect the power feeds because obviously it could affect them negatively as well. But most likely the OP doesn't really have free electricity and sooner or later it will bite him back in the butt. |

Do you think is the right time to sell old GPU like RX470, RX480, GTX1070 ?
I believe the RX 470s are actually one of the most efficient GPUs out there for mining Ethereum (in terms of everything, cost, efficiency, etc) so i'm keeping them since they're all paid for anyway. To hedge value i've sold my RX 480s. The 1070's i'm keeping so i have a more diverse mining capability. Other than those and some Vegas (for cryptonight coins), i've sold everything else. |

I've just been able to catch up on ETH news after a few weeks and from what i've read i'm now confused as to when the block reward reduction is going to be implemented. Is it October 2018 or during the Constantinople upgrade in 2019? That being said, it indeed seems like ETH mining is guaranteed to end for GPU miners when that happens (i don't see ETH price recovering anytime soon). I wonder if Bitmain knew that ETH was not going to go POS this year, thus the ASIC developments. 5º They obviously want to reduce the amount of coins generated, and begin to take away from the coin those miners, so that the migration to total PoS is done without many people complaining too much.

As far as i know any plans by the SIA dev team to block bitmain is only plans. I'm actually quite disappointed with the slow speed of the SIA dev team to do anything. Most likely others feel the same way and is the reason is slowly going down in value. If SIA still wants to be relevant in crypto then it better make some changes soon. |

This is very true. Today some people seem to forget the importance of profitability when it comes to mining. I understand it's easy to get lost in the novelty and excitement that mining brings along, but in the end the bottom line is there are much more profitable means of earning. My advice is to think twice before getting into mining at this point in time. |

The redeeming thing about getting RTX 2070 or RTX 2080 is that in 6 months time after you're done mining, you still have the fastest GPU on the market. This makes it easier to resell back to the gamers.  How do you figure? All AMD needs to do is release a new series of GPUs that would make the RTX 20 series obsolete as well.. My opinion is that it is too late to get into mining at this point in time, whether or not you have free electricity or not. There are simply too many threats just around the corner that could leave you high and dry with computer hardware. |

with 1070 here mining still zcash, doesn't seem profitable for last few months now.
Best thing to do would be to research and find new coins wherever you can (bitcoin forums, reddit, crypto news websites, etc.). Other than that, you could also take a look at online profitability calculators like whattomine.com. Although, many will tell you that when a coins gets listed on calculators, it is already too late because too many people will already be mining it. Best would be to research and find coins before they become known to many. |
