341  Economy / Reputation / Re: Someone Loan using My Account on: July 11, 2023, 09:52:48 PM
Lol, this is such a joke.  What happens if three years from now one of you guys decides you need a loan?  What if you want LoyceV to remove the tag, but he's no longer active?  What if LoyceV takes a break from the forum, and drops off of DT?  By this logic a lender is supposed to go digging through years worth of reviews, possibly untrusted reviews to look for a possible entry by LoyceV saying you won't ever take out a loan.  What if you do take a loan from some unsuspecting lender and decide you don't have to pay it because look, "back in 2023 LoyceV left a tag saying I would never take out a loan."  Couldn't this be used as an excuse to scam a lender?

zasad@    2023-07-10    Reference    This user confirmed he never wants to take a loan. If his account asks for it, it's not him.
CYBER_COWBOY    2023-07-10    Reference    This user confirmed he never wants to take a loan. If his account asks for it, it's not him.

lovesmayfamilis    2023-07-08    Reference    This user confirmed she never wants to take a loan. If her account asks for it, it's not her.
CryptoHFs    2023-07-08    Reference    This user confirmed he never wants to take a loan. If his account asks for it, it's not him.

Not to mention, out of these 5 request, one (I suspect) is a sockpuppet of a loan defaulter, lending board troll, and alt farmer that's been spamming and trolling the lending board for over a year, using multiple alts in an attempt to get an unsecured loan.  And, another just literally asked for a loan last week, lol.  You couldn't make this shit up.

Nothing good will come of these tags, and if you have asked LoyceV to tag you, I have a suggestion:  SECURE YOUR FUCKING ACCOUNT!  Take some personal responsibility for your own safety and security, and that of the forum.  If you fear some one is after your precious and valuable account, change your password.

Another thing I noticed about this thread, shasan's notable absence.  @shasan, with all due respect, to what extent are you responsible for this tragedy?  Sure, Peanutswar didn't secure his account, but what efforts did you take to make sure the loan you were issuing was going to the same person that built that account?
342  Economy / Reputation / Re: Someone Loan using My Account on: July 09, 2023, 12:22:47 AM
There was another such case happened here, I can't remember who was it. Will try to find it out.

And if you actually check any loan that was given to me was repayed.

The only loan I can find that you received was for $6, over 8 years ago.  Were there others?

loan amt .025

Repayment Address on topic.
Thank you!

hi !

payment has been made.

Received!  I bit late but still ok
Thanks!!

I found evidence that you might have borrowed BTC0.01 ($1.72 at the time) from two individuals back in January of 2015, but I didn't find evidence that you returned the money.

Anyway, if you can sign a message using the address you used for the loan form jorjito25 (or one you posted in an unedited message previous to that,) I'll remove my redtag.
344  Economy / Reputation / Re: Someone Loan using My Account on: July 08, 2023, 07:19:49 PM
Maybe asking a signed message from known addresses of a user by default will be a good decision for loan service.

This is what I was thinking.  I see shasan often giving loans without requesting a signed message, and I think it adds undue risk.  If for whatever reason the borrower doesn't have the ability to sign a message, at the very least check to see if the funding address has been posted by the borrower on the forum in the past.
345  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can I make cold wallet off line and has the ability to consolidate the utxo on: July 08, 2023, 05:39:02 PM
If I have fund on cold wallet which is offline, and  have watch only wallet on line and another wallet belongs to me on line ,
Can I arrange for utx consolidation? As if I want send fund from my cold off line wallet I make  signing on cold wallet then I sign on watch only wallet , could be possible to consolidate utxo as same way

A simple way might be to create a new cold wallet with a fresh set of addresses, set up the corresponding watch-only wallet on your online machine, and use that to sweep all the private keys from both wallets into one address in your new cold wallet.

A bit more complicated, but you can also preserve the security of your cold wallet and do essentially the same thing, but all on the off-line machine.  Export all the private keys from all the the addresses with UTXOs (both wallets) that you want to consolidate, and sweep them into an unused address from your cold wallet.  Make sure the private keys from the cold wallet never leave the off-line machine.  Then just broadcast the transaction on your on-line machine.

Congratulations ps34.

It seems that you got your secret admirer, he follow you wherever you goes, but this thread was kinda sick. Smiley

You know talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness, right?
347  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: My worries with ledger on: July 08, 2023, 01:19:38 AM
Funny you are saying this because you are already using third party devices like your computer and smartphone that all have closed source hardware components (some even software).
So trusting computer that has much bigger attack vectors than open source hardware wallet....

There are ways to mitigate that.  A computer can easily be used with no connectivity, one can even go as far as disabling the hardware, either physically or via bios settings.  Since neither are connecting to the internet an open-source air-gapped hardware wallet and an air-gapped computer would essentially be the same level of security, but no more or less in my opinion.

All modern computers and laptops have hidden spy operating system running all the time, and only way to remove it is maybe with Coreboot or with other open source alternative bios, but that needs flashing chips with raspberry pi.

Lol, the end is nigh.   Cool

That's what I'm saying, that any wallet with a secure element has the potential for the private keys to be grabbed by a malicious update

That's why you want the firmware to be transparent.  Open-source or otherwise verifiable firmware will be vetted by the general public not long after it's released, so even if you can't verify the code yourself just be patient before you update.  Air-gapped computers and hardware wallets such as the Passport or ColdCard mitigate the risk even further, because you physically have to transfer the data from the air-gapped device to the online PC.  But, regardless of whether it's an air-gapped hardware wallet or not, the only way you're going to protect yourself from being hacked is to always verify transactions on the device before confirming them, and again before broadcasting them.

I'm saying that I'm not likely to trust any HW wallet that has a secure element that can possibly be tapped into by the devs or anyone else, and all of the best-known HW wallets do have one.  That's why I said it's game over for me and storing crypto on any device.  I've come to the realization that they're not really necessary (for me at least).

It's better to have a secure element than not!  If you don't have one, any hacker can create firmware that'll bend you over.  Most reputable hardware wallets have the ability to verify firmware, and I believe that happens in the secure element.  It prevents anyone without the signing key to create an update that will pass verification.  So at the very least, you know the original manufacturer/developer is the only source for verifiable firmware.

I wasn't hatched out of Satan's hellspawn yesterday, you know.

Oh, I didn't think it was yesterday, but I didn't know we were related.
348  Economy / Reputation / Re: Timelord2067 is a malicious liar and a deranged troll on: July 07, 2023, 11:42:54 PM
I can't vote in your poll because neither option is applicable, in my opinion.  I think he's honest, but not necessarily objective enough to be on DT, and last I checked he is not.  And clearly I believe the second option is objectively wrong.

I do agree that he sees "ghosts" sometimes, or more descriptively, tenuous connections with little evidence to back them up.  I believe his heart is the right place and he does care about this forum, however.
349  Economy / Lending / Re: loan 500 € on: July 07, 2023, 09:53:23 PM
You still haven't answered my question about why you still need this loan after a year of trying.

As for the fake location and language, LoyceV (a real human from Netherlands) will be around any minute to assess whether your native language is Dutch or if you're using a translator.  Hang tight.
350  Economy / Lending / Re: loan 500 € on: July 07, 2023, 09:34:20 PM
i have a monthly wage   i get   so i can pay back from my wage    and i can send you the wage documents  if needed

Then why do you still need this loan after a year?

En om te bewijzen dat iedereen met google een zin in het Nederlands kan vertalen...
351  Economy / Lending / Re: loan 500 € on: July 07, 2023, 09:28:53 PM
if this grant me a loan 500 €  yeah sure why wouldn't i send it to the lender
but then i need to know i'm getting it back  also   and that's a risk for me  but if it's maybe a very trusted person here on forum that's something i can do yes

Finally!  After of year of jerking around, you've actually offered something real as collateral.

Now the next question:  If you've been asking for this loan for more than a year, how are you going to convince the lender you have the ability to pay back the loan?  When do you plan to recover from needing €500?
352  Economy / Lending / Re: loan 500 € on: July 07, 2023, 09:14:25 PM
then i show with webcam and not a picture from the internet

That's still not collateral!  Why didn't you answer my question about whether you're willing to send it to the lender or escrow agent?
353  Economy / Lending / Re: loan 500 € on: July 07, 2023, 08:49:13 PM
how about you not judge the person needing a loan okay ? can we agree on that  at least?

You mean like the way you've been judging HedgeFx for weeks, or the way you used to judge mnightwaffles before that?

i don't want to sell my phone
want to keep it  that's my personal reason

And let me guess; "proof" that you have the phone is the "collateral" you're offering, right?  You have no intention of sending the phone to the lender or an escrow agent?

and no i don't have alts here like i said  before

That is a lie, and anyone with half a brain can see that.

how about you contact me and i show me my phone

I don't need to contact you to see photos of an iPhone, they're all over the internet.
354  Economy / Lending / Re: loan 500 € on: July 07, 2023, 08:10:26 PM
So why don't you

Sell the phone!

Because that won't earn him any positive trust on Bitcointalk!  How is he supposed to work up the ability to pull a high-dollar exit scam without green trust?

You guys are really low IQ apes...  Oops, sorry wrong alt account.
355  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: My worries with ledger on: July 07, 2023, 06:28:10 PM
Truely paranoid people (like me) wouldn't have trusted any third party device in the first place.

Agreed, one shouldn't use a hardware wallet in lieu of long term cold storage, in my opinion.  To equate my habits to easy to understand habits most of us have with our fiat currency:

Hot wallet = Cash in your pocket.
Hardware Wallet = Cash in your "rainy day" savings account.
Cold Storage = IRA/401K or other long term investment account.

I understand what you're saying about how the keys are stored and what Ledger did, but all HW wallets have secure elements, do they not?  Those things I don't know much about except that the HW wallet manufacturer (as you stated) should never be able to access the keys stored in said secure element.

Most hardware wallets do indeed have a secure element, except for some of the DIY ones.  There might be some exceptions, but I can recall which ones at the moment.  Just having a secure element doesn't automatically mean that the seed or keys cannot be extracted.  The secure element still needs firmware to operate correctly, so if you install some malicious firmware into your secure element hardware wallet, all your funds could be stolen.  And therein lies the rub; we don't know what's in Ledger's firmware.

And a lot of pesky redditors were going on about no HW wallets being completely safe now, precisely because they all contain those secure elements, and they were talking about open-source ones like Trezor, Bitbox, and a bunch of others.  I tend to listen to what's said here on bitcointalk, as you all know what the hell you're talking about--but the mood here is gloomy as well.

Be careful when reading anything on any social media site, including this one.  Anywhere you go you're likely to run into people talking out of their ass for merit, karma, likes, or just shits and giggles.
356  Economy / Reputation / Re: Sr Member and Member alt account on: July 07, 2023, 06:06:08 PM
~

It looks like both accounts were farmed and sold.  cytpoway121 used pretty decent English until some time in 2022, and had never posted in a local board before then.  The current user isn't bad at English, but it seems to have gotten less natural and more forced since then.

None that bothers me, no trusted reviews for either user existed before the alleged change of ownership, and as others have pointed out the two accounts did not participate in the same campaign.  Connected alts applying for the same campaign is not the same as participation.
357  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Recovery - Send your (encrypted) recovery phrase to 3rd parties entities on: July 07, 2023, 04:59:01 PM
Coldcard also built on many open source libraries (not just Trezor's) when they designed their product. For them to start whining about people building up their open source library is just pure hypocrisy.
Are they even allowed to change from GPL to MIT license?
If they're building on other GPL software, they have to keep the same license for their own software:
GNU General Public License (GPL): The GPL is one of the most well-known open source licenses. It is considered a restrictive license, as it requires that any changes made to the code must be released under the same GPL license, and any software that uses the code must also be released under the same GPL license. Additionally, if a user distributes the software, they must also provide the source code and any changes they made to it.

I think that's true, but the ColdCard offers more features than any other hardware wallet I've used.  I'm no expert on the code, the licensing, or where the code originated, but having included features like (for example,) Bip85 (deterministic seed phrases that are backed up by the primary seed, which is a pretty slick feature,) could justify changing the licensing due to those features.  If nvK wants to protect his intellectual property by protecting unique snippets, I don't see a problem with it as long as it's available to the public for scrutiny.
358  Economy / Lending / Re: looking for a 10$ loan repayment 11$ in 3 days. on: July 06, 2023, 11:31:39 PM
Hi Just looking to build some trust.

Seriously?  That justification is only likely to earn you more red-tags, not a loan.
359  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Who can you trust these days with cold storage hardware wallets? on: July 06, 2023, 09:04:28 PM
I have never paid much attention to multisig solutions, maybe I should. But if I had to pick between multisig and an airgapped computer, I would go for the latter.

No reason to choose one or the other, both can be used in unison for a very secure and private set up.  One signer wallet on an online machine with the other on an air-gapped machine can be a practical set up.  It's not so much different than having an encrypted watch only wallet on the online machine, but chain analysis freaks out when it sees a 2 of 2 multisig transaction, especially if there are multiple inputs.  And I like fucking with chain analysis.

Regarding hardware wallets, I agree with those recommending Passport. It's quite expensive, but they are doing many things right. I would also not rule out the Coldcard Mk4.

Agreed, I own and recommend both.
360  Economy / Reputation / Re: Judgment Thread For PytagoraZ by JollyGood on: July 06, 2023, 06:59:47 PM
I wouldn't leave neutral feedback for that, but I don't mind either.

You should mind.  Yes, this is obviously a "fake newbie," (as suchmoon would say,) but there's far more unfounded speculation in the feedback than just the obvious.

That neutral tag JollyGood left is a retaliatory feedback, and was only left there because the OP had the audacity to challenge JG during his most recent crusade against another user.  That's why he felt the need to speculate about alleged alt-farming and other intentions.  Does anyone believe that JG would have left that tag if the newbie had jumped on the Bash rby Bandwagon instead of challenge the effort?

When JG gets his panties in a twist he starts an advertising campaign, creating multiple threads, spamming his opinion in every thread touching on the subject of his vendetta, and trying to get as many people on his side as possible.  Typical tactics for one who lacks confidence in his convictions.  He's obviously abusing his position as DT and has been for years.  He has no more business being on DT than Derek Chauvin has being a cop.

The trouble here is the OP fell right into his trap.  By creating this thread he's done nothing but bring attention to JollyGood's latest subject of scorn (i.e. himself.)  Now all those who have JG in their trust inclusions have to chime in on this thread, but all they have to say is "yup, that's a fake newbie," just to justify having JG included.
