342  Other / Meta / Re: The Bitcoin Forum is 10 years old! on: November 23, 2019, 03:28:05 PM
Holy shit, its been 10 goddamn fucking years... Who would have thought?!?!!?

I am beyond grateful for everything that's happened, for bitcoin, for this forum, and entire community of cryptocurrency that has led to so many good things, most of which were born on this very forum. I mean, a lot of crappy and awful shit has gone down, but the good always outweighs the bad. And for that, cheers to you fucking amazing people! YALL ARE AMAZING! Every single one of you!

- TO 10 more years(at least) of this place! *raises a glass of champagne*

Thank s for the input. Yeah I'm tough to pin down for a solid collaboration, but am always open to suggestions advice or ideas people want to see implemented. That's a big reason why it's important for me to drop them here first for critiques people have.

I will definitely cover the merit system, it would be hard not to. I was kicking around a few ideas on the best way to approach it. So keep an eye out for it. I will likely do it after this account recovery/proof of ownership vein I want to dive into this weekend. It's going to involve an aspect of actually obtaining a legit version of Electrum ~ just what I'm mostly comfortable with and have some knowledge on, still learning myself. I just want to make sure I don't put anything in there that could be used to burn a newbie in the space in the future - unsafe or inaccurate download information.

With that though community input will be able to tell me if I F'd it up well before it gains visibility.

I'll look into that software as it would be nice to have a few more options for improving the quality of the video, just have to make sure my ancient PC setup can handle it, and will likely stick with the inexpensive/free option. I paid for a year of my capture software which was fairly inexpensive so I'm going to try and keep costs down as much as possible. I appreciate the links though.
Just to add on to the previous suggestions, have you considered making videos on tutorials regarding bitcoin or crypto itself? You could quite possibly become one of the better crypto based YouTubers given your progress.

And oh, you'd rather want to use Obs than any other screen recorder. You can add overlays while recording amongst so many other things. It's truly an amazing software. Are there any other issues you're facing with which the community can help you out?
345  Other / Meta / Re: [Updated November 2] LoyceV's Trust list viewer - Create your own Trust list! on: November 09, 2019, 03:39:04 PM
Does that make sense?
It does Smiley Now I have a new project Cheesy
Please don't stress yourself behind this.. Like if its too complicated or if it wastes your time, please don't waste your time behind this. I will feel awfully bad if that is the case. :/
346  Other / Meta / Re: [Updated November 2] LoyceV's Trust list viewer - Create your own Trust list! on: November 09, 2019, 11:35:35 AM
is there any way for me to get the bb code for these members which I can embed
Do you only need the Trust scores, or a complete BBCode including everything else in your table? If it's the latter, that means I have to adjust things every time you want to change something else in the table.

If it's just Trust scores, I can get you something similar to what I make for tranthidung.
Okay so basically its like how people use https://youmeandbtc.com/bitcoin-converter/ to embed the price in a post which auto-updates on its own:

So I want something like that, except it keeps track of the trust score. Does that make sense?

347  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk.org collectible coin ideas & vote on: November 08, 2019, 01:12:23 PM
One manufacturer on the forum has got back to me. However, they are not one of the options in the poll.  I have yet to respond to their message as I'd like some community input into this.

The coin would not be ready this year. I think this was always going to be the case. If I could possibly get a concept made up, and presented to the community this year it would be nice. However, these are the figures they've come back with:

Time requirement: 2-6 months
Custom hologram: +1 month
Precious metal: + 3 months

Of course, they can't guarantee there won't be any hiccups along the way.  I guess, my question to the community is if we could make this work, would you guys be interested in receiving a 10th anniversary coin almost a year later? I would have to work out the finer details with them, but at least they've said they are willing to do it. I'm assuming that theymos would not brand this official if its a year later, but I would have to ask that question if the quality is good enough.
What's theymos's say on all of this? I mean the community wouldn't really mind, generally speaking. And of course, people who would want to wait and eagerly receive this will do so, but some of them would probably even reject it, knowing how conscious they are when it comes to privacy(don't @ me,I am not attacking you Smiley)

How's the funding gonna work for this? I haven't read the entire thread yet :/.
348  Other / Meta / Re: [Updated November 2] LoyceV's Trust list viewer - Create your own Trust list! on: November 08, 2019, 01:00:23 PM
Hey @LoyceV, is there any way for me to get the bb code for these members which I can embed in this list, which auto-updates the trust score without having me to change it everytime the trust score changes? If its gonna be too time consuming for you, don't bother. None of us wouldn't want the AI to crack open, would we now?  Roll Eyes
349  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie welcome video - 2nd video -Post formatting posted for review on: November 08, 2019, 12:39:39 PM
I saw both of your videos, good shit dude. Little too long, but that's okay! You're still learning, that's the point, you're learning AND helping others. Not many people willfully do that.

Suggestions: If you want to edit videos as a professional, use DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Premier Pro.

Video topic suggestions: Explain the merit system too if you're making the other videos you previously suggested. Also, I am sure a lot of people would love to collab with you on this, so more the merrier.
350  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Overview of Bitcointalk Signature Anti-Spam Campaign Managers on: November 06, 2019, 03:40:12 AM
pugman, thanks for this thread I find it more comprehensive, well documented and informative more than others I have seen. I received a question on my thread tilted [Guide] Factors to consider before joining paid signature campaigns. Asking about a thread where he can find reputed campaign manager listed and I recommended your thread.

Keep up the good work.
Thank you for your kind words.
I wonder if @Pugman should consider updating this thread. Otherwise just lock and archive it. Because there are a lot of managers that are active now, and is not present in this thread. So it gives an incomplete and outdated picture of the scene.
I have said this before, I'll say it again, I will only be adding managers who are trust worthy enough and are smart enough to know what a campaign is and how to run it. I'll be looking into the current list of managers and see if any of them are to be removed or not.

Yahoo and Hhampuz are professional managers but now most of the signatures are held by Yahoo, but I want to ask if what is on this list is a special manager for the btc signature gift that is paid or any other bounty project has been launched?
Dude, English. You had me in the first half, not gonna lie. Rephrase your sentence properly, so at least you might get a proper answer to whatever that is you're asking.
Bumping this again. Yeet.
351  Economy / Economics / Re: Binance to Open Beijing Office Amid China’s Renewed Blockchain Push on: November 01, 2019, 09:53:09 PM
Quote
The new outpost will join Binance’s current mainland China office in Shanghai.

It’s not clear what exactly the office will do or when it will open

Doesn't sound like major news to me. The author is trying to paint this as part of a pro-blockchain renaissance of sorts following the president's recent comments, but I don't buy it.

It's just part of Binance's recent push into the Chinese market. They launched peer-to-peer trading earlier this month, with plans to expand into the OTC market: https://cointelegraph.com/news/binance-launches-p2p-trading-for-chinese-yuan
And to add on to what you have said, knowing how much shit is going on China, there isn't really much Binance's office would be able to supposedly do. All of this feels fairly vague, and I doubt any of this would actually be effective, cause for all you know this is news spread to cause disruption in the market.

And as for Binance working with the government/s, it seems great and all, but without any proper information, this whole project will take years to roll out for all you know. Binance is really going wild these days, cause who would have thought China would unban Binance from their proxy admist of everything going on.
352  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk.org collectible coin ideas & vote on: October 12, 2019, 08:05:05 PM
It's not really that epic an achievement to get that many merits and you can manage it without being a particularly stunning or established member. I think it would be better kept for the proper OGs. There'll always have to be a cut off somewhere and opening it up to people who might have only been here for a year or less doesn't make much sense.
The only reason I used merit as a determining criteria is because that's one way of determining someone being a little contributive at least towards the forum, don't you think?

I mean there could always be different types of coins for different cafeterias: Bronze coin for contributive posting, Silver for having a considerable amount of reports, and gold for being a DT member/for those helping the forum fighting the fight against the scammers, and a diamond for OG users. It shouldn't have to be necessarily like this, but you get my idea, right?

Although, I'd love to offer this to as many users as possible it starts to lose its sentimental value as soon as we start increasing the amounts of coins. In my opinion, and I know there's going to be a difference of an opinion on this matter, but only those that have contributed greatly to the forum or are of historic value to the forum should be eligible.

If I can make this work then I'd be more than willing to organize other significant dates such as 20th anniversary. This could be an ongoing thing, and therefore an encouragement to the newer users who might not be eligible yet.
Fair enough, I somewhat agree with your points, but all of this would be pretty damn useless if there's no official word.

The satoshi quote idea is a good one, and hopefully if it comes to the community designing it some users will keep that in mind. I've just got to find a manufacturer which is open to the idea. Unfortunately, I don't have the pulling power of theymos to begin with, and the fact that its starting off as an unofficial project I feel has been an issue, because the only criteria I can give to them is if its good enough theymos might bless it as official.

I've already come to terms with the fact that this isn't going to be readily available for the anniversary, but if we can get it announced, and development started that's something. I've had some users come to me with some good ideas, and some with a little advice. All I need is to find a manufacturer which has the same passion for the forum as myself, and other users who care for the community.

Also, I think its worth mentioning that I'm not just going to go with someone just because they are up for it. I want quality, and I want to incorporate as much as the communities input into the coin as possible, and the right person for this will support that. I wished I opened this thread a little after theymos' initial idea proposal.

According to BPIP Bitcointalk.org currently has 132,815 users which are active (logged in within 3 months). Over half of them probably fall into these groups: Registered this year, red trust, bounty hunters, lurkers, and non English users. Although, ideally I don't want to limit this to those who speak only English so it might be worth contacting moderators of the local section to see if there's anyone eligible. Apart from that most of the users will not be eligible for this coin. We want this coin to be something which is sought after, and to reward the highest contributing users as well as some historic users of the forum.

I feel like 500 coins would probably be the sweet point in terms of not too rare, and not just handing them out. Although, I haven't done enough research yet to see how many users would be eligible compared to my criteria. Manufacturers might be more willing to make higher quantity coins obviously too.
If you're having a hard time figuring out on who to give out these coins, just give it out to people sorted by bpip's most recognized. That'd help a lot to be honest, when it comes to the screening process.
353  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk.org collectible coin ideas & vote on: October 11, 2019, 12:31:29 PM
I reeeeallly love this idea and everything behind this, but like have a few suggesh:

- 300 users are kinda a little too less, anyone who has received idk like 100-200 merits should have a chance to grab one of these coins if they were to be available. 500 should be kinda justified.

- Doesn't matter if the collectible is funded or not, it still would be a pretty cool thing to own, it could be worth millions one day you never know.

- The coin should have a satoshi quote on its edge, that'd be one of a kind for sure, and a signature of some kind by theymos. There should also be a logo on one side of a coin like a no bank symbol and the classic bitcoin logo on the other. That would be pretty fucking cool.

- Point is, if this coin is to ever be a real thing, make it rare, make all of it a worthy process overall, and just make it count.
354  Economy / Economics / Re: Financial crisis 2.0 - What will happen to bitcoin in the next crisis? on: October 04, 2019, 11:59:22 PM
I'm confident it'll shit the bed like everything else, perhaps even more intensely.

It's not a 'safe harbour'. It's a nutty bet to most people. You don't hang on to your nutty bet when you're having to sell your underpants to afford food.

If world finance blows up in 10 years I think there's a vastly better chance it may stand outside the turmoil but not if it happens in the next couple of years.
I really hope the financial and economic turmoil shows up to the world faster than what is expected. That is the only way people are going to figure out how horrible things have become, trillions of dollars are in debt, and businesses are dying as the clock ticks every single time, and there is hardly any measures taken to avert any kind of crisis. No one wants to believe that the world is in the most shittiest place it has ever been, and they have no qualms ignoring the issue. I keep saying this over and over again, but for some reason I keep overthinking about all of the possible outcomes that could be made out of the crisis that will hit us sooner or later, and no matter how many conclusions I come up with, the reality will be very different, and bitcoin will probably won't be near the scene either. People don't go waste their money on investments, or any kind of currency trade in times of crisis, they save it, or go through hell to get all the things they could possibly want to save themselves through the crisis. Don't expect something that Mr. Robot envisioned where people where paying in crypto during a financial crisis, cause it sure as hell won't go that way.
355  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is Binance still around? on: October 04, 2019, 10:38:02 PM
Just remembering that old exchange from long ago.  Are they still in business or did they get shut down already?  One would think they'd be Shut Down by now.  Yeah they had their share of problems...  Lips sealed
Why would they be shut down? They are operating in Malta and is known to be the go-to exchange for a lot of regular traders, regardless of how many problems they have had.

I mean, they aren't the leading exchange on the market anymore according to coinmarketcap, but they are up and running so there is that.
356  Economy / Economics / Re: The Latest Crypto Price Dip Is Fueled By Fake News Relating to Quantum Computers on: September 27, 2019, 11:59:43 PM
Whenever I hear people say Quantum Technology, it is more often used because they don't know what a certain technology is, and what its actual compatibility is and which field of usage is it to essentially used in.  In this case, it is basically Google trying to monopolize the "Quantum Computers" market by stepping into the market scene and rushing out on things by giving out some rough statistics which may or may not even be accurate, and other companies will also best make sure that Google doesn't end up getting an overall market lead in this as well.

But regardless of the above, all in all, I am pretty sure this had nothing to do with the price dip, mainly cause there is no connection between the events.
357  Other / Meta / Re: creating a new section: Mini PC on: September 20, 2019, 10:22:03 PM
Sure, and while we're at it, let's also make a memes section for posting area 51 raid memes and make all of the million newbies the mod of that section, it'd be fun.
After searching for topics posted on bitcointalk using keyword mini pc on Google, the few topics that exist have been posted on various sections. One is off topic, another is bitcoin>mining and in mining(altcoins). Don't really think a new section is required for it as of now maybe later when there's enough discussion on a regular basis then sure of course.
358  Other / Meta / Re: Obscene disparity of Merit distribution on: September 13, 2019, 06:47:05 PM
Warning for everyone thinking about starting a discussion with the user above: DO NOT FEED THE TROLL.

Can't you all just freaking ignore him? Every single day a new thread appers and people start rambling with him, WHICH IS A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. I'm starting to think people only do this to increase their post count, because I can't see any other reason we would keep feeding him with more attention.

Since we are BOTH off-topic, I suspect that these posts will get deleted soon. But I don't care. PLEASE, just STOP it already.
Fam you good??

You can only ignore a certain amount of users, new ones will keep popping regardless. Let them rant, and let us juggle with their anger.

A large proportion of the merits the original post in the above thread came from DarkStar_, so that skews the data just a wee bit.  I'm not going to comment on whether those merits were deserved or not, but it was well within DarkStar_'s rights to hand them out as he saw fit, and I can't fault him for that.
I don't think there's anything wrong with Darkstar_'s merit handing, in terms of a business relationship that he's had for over 2 years and trusted with hundreds of thousands of dollars, I think handing out 50 merits as a token of thankfulness/trustworthiness is pretty justified. Maybe the merit system wasn't necessarily created for this, but it's certainly not wrong.

Sometimes people just go on terms of technicality and merit posts based on how good or bad it is. There's more than just that, a post may neither be good or bad, but may still deserve merits based on its nature.
359  Economy / Economics / Re: Average savings across the globe on: September 12, 2019, 06:22:22 PM
Savings are basically more when when the spending is lesser, or essentially in places where the cost of living is comparatively lesser.

For example, look at this comparison between Bern(Switzerland) and Washington DC(US): https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=Switzerland&country2=United+States&city1=Bern&city2=Washington%2C+DC

The rent is 98% more higher in Washington DC when compared to Bern. So basically, in theory, if you spend 1000$ for rent in Bern, you'd spend 1980$ in Washington DC. So obviously the savings are lower. And besides, due the recession almost every country is in shambles, and there's no room for savings whatsoever.
360  Other / Meta / Re: Isn't it ironic that Bitcointalk has no mobile version? on: September 12, 2019, 03:51:49 PM
Hi folks,
Unless I missed it but the rare times I login to this forum on my mobile, it's a desktop version, obviously terrible to browse, need to constantly zoom in and zoom out, a poor experience.

Isn't ironic? This forum being about the modern technology, blockchain, the future digital currencies, maybe mainstream one day, and yet a forum that looks like it was made in 2002.

Don't tell me it's because of the signatures that would not display properly on a mobile version?

Yeah well, this forum is so damn frigging old, a mobile version of it would be pointless. You can still browse the forum just as fine on your phone via a browser.

There are chances for a mobile version of the new forum, but that's still a long way to go.

Ironic or not, we ain't getting a mobile version anytime soon, and honestly there isn't a bigger need for it.
