12,580,00 bitcoin have not moved in over a year.

Even with a 70% increase in price during that time, those millions of bitcoin were not moved, sold or likely traded.

Hodlers of last resort are insane.
https://twitter.com/Rhythmtrader/status/1214316888756555776

If this is true, how many coins are actually traded?  Estimating only around 15 million or less in wallets with controlled keys, 1-2 million lost, and Satoshi's 1M presumably lost or not moving anytime soon. That does not leave much for the exchanges, maybe 1-2 million?
Seems the demand is outpacing the supply currently. About 1800 coins minted each day for all the world to share if miners sell of  which will be cut in half in a few months. I think we have no idea what scarcity is yet.

Food poisoning sucks, Vietnamese seafood is to be avoided for the foreseeable future.  Angry
What a pity about your meal  Shocked Where did you eat it? I have lived in Vietnam in recent years, their cuisine is really interesting  Roll Eyes I even love their PHO - they write PHỞ in Vietnamese. It was really really delicious, have you eaten it? I have never had food poisoning since living there until now
South coast, shanty little seafood shack. "Interesting" is a sugar coated descriptor, some of it is outright laughable like pressed dried squid on a stick sold from a motorbike with flies buzzing about or coagulated duck blood soup, oh yeah, and partially formed baby chicks still in the shell .  Roll Eyes  Cheesy Excuse me, might be sick again.  Pho a few times a week but only from shops that specialize in it, its either really good or absolutely terrible. Seems I get food poisoning about once a year and usually right around now when tourism is at its height.  Thanks for caring  Wink

Suppose I may qualify for the sick club or does it need be viral?  Ate some fried fish yesterday against my better judgement. The missus knew within an hour and spent the night praying to the porcelain god. Thought I was home free, however its taken an entire 24 hours to start kicking my arse.  Food poisoning sucks, Vietnamese seafood is to be avoided for the foreseeable future.  Angry
364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DID I MAKE A MISTAKE INVESTING IN BITCOIN? on: January 07, 2020, 10:40:22 AM
I didn't read this whole thread so apologies in advance if this has been said.

If someone were to ask me the question "DID I MAKE A MISTAKE INVESTING IN BITCOIN?" My reply woud be: Yes, you most certainly have and your risk is great.
It would be far more beneficial to yourself and the community to do more research on understanding the fundamental idea of Bitcoin and why its here. Its a long journey for most and can take many months/years to get grasp of. If you still want to continue to invest after this, next is to asses a position that comfortably fits your risk profile understanding that its very likely that your position will be underwater at some point and your convictions leading to your question will be tested.
This question will not need to be asked if you've approached Bitcoin after due diligence, you will know whether or not its for you.

I usually like to point out that most traders 90%+ lose value trying to trade Bitcoin and alts.

I see hardly any posts nowadays about market depth (which after all is the topic of WO).

I don't collate the stats myself, and I used to rely on this (or similar) sources. Is anyone here collecting and processing bid/offer depth data ?

https://vcdepth.io/coins/bitcoin-btc
https://data.bitcoinity.org/markets/books/USD
Thanks, the bitcoinity depth charts are especially interesting. Might even inspire some 'on topic' posts more often. Wink
Looks like everyone but bitfinex have little walls at 8k for now.

Guys, I would like to talk a little off the sidelines  Grin
I was excited by the avatar that you are wearing, it's really really interesting, outstanding and beautiful. I wish I could own a hat like you  Cheesy  I did some research in the last few days and I know that xhomerx10 was the one who designed these gorgeous hats. I really like them and I want a nice hat, please tell me how to get it  Cheesy Can you give me a hat  Kiss, xhomerx10

Absolutely, all you need to do is demonstrate your Haiku skills to the hat gallery or alternatively, create a short, rhyming poem with your name (ChuckBuck).  Wink
Upon final review, and according to the high custom, xhomerx10 may finalize the initiation with an appropriate hat based on his mood, your perceived personality, or if you're lucky he'll request an image from you for inspiration.
Your avatar suggests you like cats, you're in luck, the WO is like 70% feline friendly.

I did see I had been removed from the list but then saw the rules of the 25 earned merit so I didn't speak up. I'm not upset (unless I guessed the right price then I'll be a little salty haha) I guess I'll just have to earn more merits for the next time Smiley
A small donation, I'd like to see more of you  Wink

369  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why We Think Craig Wright is Satoshi and Why That Matters on: January 07, 2020, 02:27:27 AM
CSW has been caught in so many lies and forgeries that I can't even believe he has any credibility left at all to convince anyone he's Satoshi. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
I guess this does not matter as he does not need to fool everyone but because cryptocurrencies are the fastest growing space on the planet right now, he will temporarily fool enough who are new to the space and get insane returns.
Not only can Craig not sign or send from early blocks or deliver any proofs, he also cannot prove that he controls email accounts used by Satoshi or even the original login here on this forum.
The guy is a fraud and its been proven many times over.
370  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why only 6.2 percent of American citizens own Bitcoin? on: January 06, 2020, 03:21:15 PM
Sorry, there is not 20 million people in the USA owning Bitcoin or other digital assets. A Generous estimation would be 1.1% which is 3.85 million people and even that still seems high. Perhaps even .5% could be more accurate.
Bitcoin is still seen as an ultra risky asset and largely not understood by a population who barely understand the difference between a web browser and google search.  No way does 20 million people own this yet. Perhaps not even worldwide. I could be wrong there but I don't see any evidence of that yet.
371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: John McAfee backs out of his $1 million bitcoin prediction on: January 06, 2020, 12:46:57 PM
Not sure I ever really understood what was meant by "eat" but not surprising to see him pick up the rest of whatever reputation he has left on his way out the door. Imagine believing anything this guy says going forward.  I guess its like they say, "better to burn out than fade away".
372  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You the local Bitcoin joke in town? on: January 06, 2020, 08:22:48 AM
Unfortunately my excitement over Bitcoin in late 2017 encouraged several of my friends to "invest" which led some to lose most of it to trading gambling, one lost all their holdings in the Quadrigacx exit scam, another bought at 17.5K and still holds but does not talk about it or believe much about it anymore.   I do know what its like to be the outlier, the one nobody believes in. I'm close to a group of 12 investors of which I am the only one to take the proverbial red BTC pill. Although I'm respected, my credibility is thin when it comes to discussion of finance.
I've learned the hard way to keep my mouth shut when it comes to talking about Bitcoin in person. Now, unless someone really and authentically wants to learn and keeps bringing it up, I'll change the topic.

Bitcoin is a personal journey into finance, savings, sovereign monetary policy, greed, discovery, euphoria, denial, loss, personal responsibility, solutions and much more.  I'm not yet prepared to deliver Bitcoin effectively in conversation with today's general level of education and attention span, especially when all they usually want to know is "How do I buy it?"
373  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Buying online with crypto? Its worthed? on: January 05, 2020, 02:40:10 PM
Is it worthed to Shop online with crypto instead of Fiat Currrency?

For example:  booking hotel or flight with crypto?

Absolutely, big incentives in fact, you can get large discounts just for paying with Bitcoin. Most items on Amazon get 5-33% discounts when you shop through purse.io.  I've used them many times and saved a lot of money! I prefer Amazon and purse for most things online now.
374  Economy / Economics / Re: Your plan if no significant move on Bitcoin price along with the halving? on: January 05, 2020, 05:04:40 AM
I voted other: explanation
Since its not a given that Bitcoin price will rise, and to mitigate the possibility of disappointments, I'm not expecting anything to happen and in fact, I'd be elated if I could simply retain the same value I put in over time. I'll not be selling whether or not the price increases this halving and probably not even the next in 2024 or 2028. I mean, unless, of course ridiculous life changing values occur. In that event I'd pay my outstanding debts and continue on saving. I'd also like to be more charitable to places in need if that opportunity occurs.
I consider Bitcoin a safe asset suitable for life savings. When and if I make it to an age whereupon I wish to retire from work, hopefully Bitcoin will be a decent nest egg for my family and I.
375  Economy / Economics / Re: How the situation in Iran might impact Bitcoin on: January 05, 2020, 02:43:23 AM
Of course there will be some who exit Iranian rial for BTC due to the scare of war however I just don't see this as being a real push in the price. Its more likely a speculative front run/manipulation based on the news.

What I do think is more relevant for Bitcoin today in Iran is circumnavigating sanctions, just like Russia however Bitcoin is not yet large enough for governments to consider large positions for real world sanction circumnavigation and regulations have not allowed such government spending yet.  Bitcoin is already working really well on a more local community level to avoid sanctions and bank transfer problems. Just wait till everyone sees how its done.  It's coming fast.
376  Economy / Speculation / Re: Halving, who's closest with actual Nrs TAKE A CHANCE on the LIST !!! on: January 05, 2020, 02:18:10 AM
Damn 4 players that won before all gone with lower-ish prices... where are all the other previous winners ??

How quickly 6K's becomes seen as a low price Wink
Not too fast, not too soon.  You know, 7K  IS the moon had we never been in the 20K bubble. It was only a few years ago that we were buying full coins for 1K and less, in a few more years it will be the same.
377  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Free Ross Ulbricht? on: January 05, 2020, 01:14:01 AM
Thanks for that article. A very interesting read. I also wasn't around then and hadn't really followed Ross's story completely. Previously I had seen Ross as someone better than that, kind of an example type for the system with a ultra heavy handed sentence. If this collection of transcripts are accurate, he deserves what he got and more. So would the hells angels person he talked to. Living a simple life is truly so much better than being involved with dirty people and scams.
378  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and deep web on: January 04, 2020, 10:51:32 PM
If you bought your bitcoin from a party that implements KYC/AML, that party and anyone they share information with knows your identity in relationship to the original receiving address. If the address you send to is known in this way, it is safe to say that your transaction is known but perhaps they may not know what was exchanged beyond BTC value. Coin joining is common practice for darknet users to further obfuscate ownership identity tied to coins. True Privacy is difficult in BTC.  Take for example the large sex traffic ring that was busted in Poland recently. They were caught because they used BTC and their transactions were followed and proven.
379  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I took a photo of my wallet seed with a 35mm camera on: January 04, 2020, 03:18:59 PM
Just move your funds to a new seed and consider this one compromised, problem solved, now develop your film and relax. If you choose not to move to a new seed and you develop the film anyway, there could exist a program in the processing that's looking for sensitive information. Best practice when unsure = change seed.
380  Economy / Services / Re: Yobit.net signature campaign on: January 04, 2020, 12:03:04 PM
I've just noticed that some of my posts are not being counted lately (last 2 days)
I suspect that new rules have been implemented on where posts are counted.  For example, I think none of the posts made on wall observer are being counted recently, is this true? Would make sense since thread does not show signatures anyhow.
Are there any other threads that will not be counted?
