I like the way you captured the numbers. No matter who it was, losing 14% would definitely hurt and without a doubt even losing 1% would hurt if it was preventable. Keeping crypto on exchanges is a bad idea unless you deposit them with the intention of trading them immediately.

In your case, if you transact with a broker in person for cash rather than use centralised exchanges it means you have to be careful meeting buyers but other than that it is a good way because it removes dependency on exchanges.

I have 14% on coinbase but most is in cash

Losing 14% would still hurt, right?
10% of a million is still 100k. It won't bankrupt you, but you can buy a very nice car with that, or a piece of land.
If you had that 14% in a physical item like a house and lose it, you'd feel it more I guess.
Also, you're talking like holding a small part of your investment on exchange makes it OK, while you could hold 0 and be completely safe.
I hold 0 on exchanges and haven't used a centralized exchange for years. When I want to sell I transact face 2 face with a broker.

You have tried to gain access to any funds that were in the account after a four year gap. Without being told the full story behind why they froze your account in the first place, it seems likely you will not have success in your aim. If they were going to allow access now why would they have blocked you getting to your funds four years ago.

You should try to contact them on every official channel from email to social media until they at least respond.

Are you sure you contacted the right address?..
yes through https://bittrexglobal.zendesk.com

How did you make this screenshot from the balance if you don't have access to the platform?..
This is an old screenshot after my account was frozen (2020) And I haven't been able to complete KYC since then

363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Funds are SAFU": Here we go again, but with Coinbase! on: March 01, 2024, 04:05:19 PM
The sad thing is that in general many people simply do not learn. They have seen example after example of exchanges getting hacked yet they still opt to keep their crypto stored on them. Not your keys not your crypto does not seem to resonate with some people.

The best advice is to only use exchanges when you are about to trade otherwise there is no need to store crypto on exchanges.

And no, people should not be storing their crypto on any exchange, even Coinbase.  But there's always going to be a non-zero number of people who do exactly that.
364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who was Satoshi Nakamoto? on: March 01, 2024, 04:00:50 PM
Even though many of the names in the photo are unknown to me, that is an historical image because of several names that are present there at the same time. For most part I have believed Satoshi was the work of more than just one person and I still believe that.

I have seen posts by Greg Maxwell but never knew to which extent he was involved with cryptography. What I am reading about him now is impressive.

No one knows for sure, period.  No we do know that its not Craig Wright, but outside that it could be a combination of quite a few cryptographers.

Here's an interesting story I read recently/happened to randomly come across.  Now no one knows for sure who Satoshi is, which is part of his genius.  I personally think it's Nick Szabo for many reason.  I've actually spoken with Craig Wright and Szabo individually on twitter, and Craig jut doesn't give me that vibe.

Szabo created bitgold /coined the term smart contracts etc.  He' an economist, cryptographer, etc..and he just fits the bill.  Plus Szabo is a bit of an asshole, and I hear Satoshi was much the same in forum PMs.  You could tell he was a bit brash just from his forum posts too.

(what an iconic/legendary photo.  Including our  own forum mod Greg Maxwell.  If you haven't read his posts, or his blog, I highly recommend it.  We are very lucky to have him here!!

https://www.experiencelab.info/2018/06/unveiling-bitcoin-team-led-by-nick.html?m=1  (for the record I believe this article to be total bullshit, but who knows).
365  Other / Meta / Re: Hey Theymos, There Should Be a Demotion Button on: March 01, 2024, 12:31:59 PM
To some degree it does get tiresome when reading about modifications members would like to see in the forum. When posting about the changes they would like to see implemented, in some cases members are merely attention seeking.

For me, this so-called demotion button modification is nothing more than another in a long line of requests that most probably will be (and rightly) ignored.

A list of affected games would be a good start as it would allows others to go and check for themselves. If there was a bug to exploit after it was reported, surely it would show negligent conduct by the blackjack.fun team if they did not find a way to fix it. The silence from blackjack.fun really does not help the situation.

The area where JackpotRacer could be useful is if he can prove that the casino is (still) running games that can easily be manipulated. That's something the community should know about and decide for themselves if they want to trust such a casino with their money.
367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Funds are SAFU": Here we go again, but with Coinbase! on: March 01, 2024, 11:24:29 AM
Today there is automation, hosts can easily add and remove servers or increase/decrease cloud infrastructure as and when traffic flows change in order to keep costs down while allowing for the website not be clogged by visitors. Why was it even a talking point when it came to the Coinbase CEO?

They are representatives of companies that pay them phenomenal amounts of money therefore CEOs should be making more careful when they make statements because their words have consequences. One of the things any trading website would have to prepare for is the possibility of spikes in traffic, ignoring or belittling it is not recommended.

They apparently upgraded their systems and can withstand 10x the amount of traffic. What I don’t understand is that why didn’t they prepare for this in the past? This happened so many times during crazy bullish or bear market moves and they knew it would happen again.

CEO said it’s a waste of money to have 10x more capacity when most of the time 1x is sufficient. I understand but at least have some workers who can monitor conditions and when they see it might be a crazy day then increase the capacity.

Imagine how much business they lost due to this.

I think you should have tried to access your account when you first discovered it was frozen. Why did it take you four years to try to get your account unlocked? Regardless, if you had a balance it was your money therefore you have every right to try to get the funds returned to you. I do not know much about how Bittrex operates these days but do not give in if they try to put obstacles in your way to get to your funds.

I can not access my account Since my account was frozen in 2020 Are there any solutions to withdraw my balance?

369  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bitcasino.io won't let me cashout my money on: February 29, 2024, 10:05:21 PM
We have seen allegations in abundance against many casinos and gaming websites, usually it turns out there was much more to the story than was initially being told in the OP.

I think it will be the same here however there have been times I have been surprised when evidence pointed to the OP being a victim in some capacity. We have to keep an open mind until we read a reply by Bitcasino.

Pretty sure most sites don't allow bets until a deposit is confirmed to avoid the hassle of double spends. I am also pretty sure that Bitcasino or their partners would not just accuse this bettor of an action without good reason. Their reputation is worth way more than $2000. There has to be more to the story that the OP hasn't given us.

I'm not calling the OP a liar and I'm not saying a mixup couldn't have happened, but let's all remember that more than half the accusations we see in this section are false and intended to try to pressure a site to pay or smear a reputation. We shouldn't come to any conclusions without having all the information. Give the site time to respond(if they wish).
370  Economy / Reputation / Re: Standing Strong Against Unjust Attacks: A Call for Community Support on: February 29, 2024, 09:58:24 PM
That is similar to what I was beginning to think. It is safe to put aside anything related to JackpotRacer and his claims against blackjack.fun (at least until/unless further evidence is put forward or more allegations are made).

Therefore the logical aspect of this thread has to be the outstanding questions related to their operations.

To my knowledge, they have not had any serious scam allegations made against them therefore (as I mentioned before) even if there was an issue where the Curacao licence might have expired and the Anjouan licence might have started, it would not be as serious an issue as them stating they had the licence at all times but it turns out they were not covered. If that happened it will damage their reputation and could raise trust issues.

Regarding the provably fair questions, we are all in the dark until/unless she replies.

In the meantime, where is the Blackjack.fun forum representative Eva when it comes to posting here? This thread was created by her to repel against what she cited as unfair/unjust attacks on the reputation of the casino yet she has been largely absent from the conversation including not addressing questions that some of the community sincerely feel should have been answered by now.
If I can venture a guess, she doesn't like the direction the thread has taken. It's no longer just about JackpotRacer's wrongdoings, which have already been established, it's also about whether or not the casino and the people running it are capable of hosting a fair game that can't be cheated by those who know how to.
371  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: 1xbit refuse to send me back my deposits on: February 29, 2024, 09:45:47 PM
I think you have virtually zero chances to receive your money back. I am sure is extremely disappointing to read but you will have to move on and get past this incident. If you hold hopes for having the money returned you cannot be blamed for having wishful thinking but if we are being honest we know it will not happen.

By reporting the incident here you have already helped the community as it shows another claim against 1xbit/1xbit1 and you should try to find some solace in that.

Still no answer, still they stuck my funds and not give me back my money. I am very sad. Please someone help me to get back my funds!
372  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: February 29, 2024, 03:58:58 PM
Well, you have to ask yourself about the function of any administrator/liquidator that has been appointed to collate the assets of any company they are investigating. How many are primarily profit agencies that end up taking a huge amount of the assets to cover their own expenses while they investigate the matter?

After they take the funds for themselves, what remains is distributed (in most cases) unfairly across investors. If Cogito are taking advantage of the current situation it does not mean investors should give in to their offer.

I remember my balance being around $100 to $150 at the time of the hack.

Why would I want to sell that for a questionable token like they are offering that I would only be able to sell for around $5??

I mean, isn't that the math being this?
373  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Funds are SAFU": Here we go again, but with Coinbase! on: February 29, 2024, 03:53:12 PM
We all know the motto: not your keys, not your coins.

It is understandable that many people would not be in a position to download the whole blockchain but at the very least they could use Electrum in order to be sole users of their wallet. If investors do not have sole access to their crypto, it means any of the other parties that have access to them could effectively steal them (or be responsible for them being taken if there was a security lapse). Thankfully that did not happen in the case with Coinbase.

People who are not trading coins do not need to use an exchange. It is just ridiculous seeing people on X/Twitter having a mental breakdown over this even after hearing about "not your keys, not your coins" so many times.
374  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ [POLL] ENGLISH FA CUP 2023/24 TOURNAMENT - Discussion Thread on: February 29, 2024, 03:46:01 PM
These are the FA Cup quarter-final fixtures to be played on Saturday 16th March:

Chelsea vs Leicester City
Manchester City vs Newcastle United
Manchester United vs Liverpool
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Coventry City

As it stands, most people would probably state Manchester City and Liverpool were favourites to win the trophy. After that there is not much to choose between Chelsea, Newcastle United and Manchester United. Least favourites have to be Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Coventry City.

375  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ [POLL] FOOTBALL: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 on: February 29, 2024, 03:39:36 PM
These were the previous results from the knockout stag first leg that were not updated:

Wednesday 21st February
FC Porto 1-0 Arsenal
Napoli 1-1 Barcelona

Tuesday 20th February
Inter Milan 1-0 Atletico Madrid
PSV Eindhoven 1-1 Borussia Dortmund

Arsenal suffered a loss and could be out if they do not win in the return leg. I think the season has been long therefore Arsenal could be tired with all those young players and for that reason could lose the tie (even if they drew on the night).

There were the latest results that were not updated:

Monday 26th February
West Ham United 4-2 Brentford

Sunday 25th February

377  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ FOOTBALL: Carabao Cup On Final Sunday 25th February 2024: Chelsea vs Liverpool on: February 29, 2024, 03:30:20 PM
Liverpool had 99% of their first choice starting eleven unavailable because of injuries therefore to beat a Chelsea team that had near full first choice starting eleven was commendable. Klopp will leave Liverpool in good shape because the players coming through the youth ranks of today will be part of their first team tomorrow.

I hope Chelsea owners and fan have patience with Pochettino, he will make them challenge for the title again but he needs time.

But what makes this victory feel even more exciting for Liverpool is that they achieved it in less than ideal conditions.
Liverpool came in having lost many players due to injury, namely Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota.
With minimal options, Liverpool must rely on young players. Harvey Elliott and Conor Bradley, both just 20, started.
With this victory we can see where Chelsea's level is, with young players who have fantastic prices.
It turns out that this is not a guarantee of being able to beat Liverpool and become champions of the Carabao Cup. Liverpool really deserves to get this trophy.

Once again congratulations to Liverpool! Hopefully this trend will continue in the EPL until the end of the season.

Ah well, there is another group of names that will get tagged for being so obvious in their for-hire-bump-service. If any entity employs bumping services it will eventually become apparent therefore it should never have been considered in the first place. I will follow suit when I have time and will tag the accounts because they have zero legitimacy.

Nice one, @notblox1! Most definitely a hired bumping/spam service.

For now, we have a list of these accounts:

Take a look at the manner in which the OP is posting, he posts once in the hope of getting merits then gives up and does not want to re-post in the same thread again: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3550524;sa=showPosts

As soon as I read the OP, I thought it was an alt-account being operated by a particular member from the Bengali local community. Looking through his history, he did make a post in the Bengali community. Still, it is not concrete but the hunch is there.
