1061  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a crypto loan off 750 euro on: September 19, 2023, 11:37:10 PM
I guess its no hope for me here as a new member.
As the way things currently stand, yes you have no hope for getting a loan as a new member because you are unable to provide collateral. I am sure you understand the reasons why any lender would find it difficult to give any newbie a loan.

I guess its no hope for me here as a new member.
In general there is no hope for you as a new member but other than someone who needs £750 to pay rent and promises to pay back £900 by not explaining anything else the obvious question that arises is what money he intends to pay that £900 with in addition to next month's rent. Having to go into debt to pay current expenses indicates financial ruin and no one in their right mind is going to lend money to someone who is broke.
You are right about financial ruin. Even with the best of intentions regarding repayment, it is clear to see if the loan was ever to be repaid the cycle of debt would have to continue and that is no way to live.

I am sure there are cases where the cost of living has escalated to the point where people are suffering unimaginably but drowning more and more in debt is not sustainable in the long-term and cannot be the answer. The danger would be for people looking for short-term loans to repay other outstanding debts but then getting caught in that cycle of borrowing more to repay other debts.
1062  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAMMED ON XFUN.BET BY FUNTOKEN!!! on: September 19, 2023, 11:00:50 PM
I have added correct links to the images the OP posted. The chat can be seen inside the thread now without the need for visiting external links and they should provide clarity over what was being communicated via the chat.

It is important for them to have chatted with the OP in a timely manner even if they sent messages to update stating "we are still waiting for news and will update you as soon as we can". I think for the chat operators to go in to total silence-mode will be seen as unprofessional . If you read through, you will notice the OP was getting frustrated towards the end but when it comes to $25,000 that was bound to happen when he was not even being told something simple such as an estimated time.

I hope they manage to resolve this as soon as possible because it is not nice to be in limbo, not even knowing if will see any of that money.

1063  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning] Unnamed.exchange - do we have another exit scam? on: September 19, 2023, 11:08:33 AM
The value of the 1337 coins was so low that it is not worth the effort, but thanks for the detailed answer. I also think, since he hosted it so unprofessionally from his basement. Some of the payouts may even have been done manually, as I said, good that such an exchange disappears from the scene.
If all the value of all those coins and tokens he was hosting (on his scam unnamed.exchange website) were to be added up, it would probably come to a small fortune otherwise scammer TillKoeln would not have taken steps to exit-scam. In any other scenario a genuine business operator would either close down after returning funds to rightful owners or seek investment to keep the business functioning or sell a failing business.

When it is specifically about crypto it is these types of people that give the whole community a bad name. When scammer TillKoeln announced his exchange was allegedly hacked, this is what I posted back in February 2022:

Partially paying a small number of victims is usually a trait employed by scammers to put off any legal action because they claim they are trying to return funds to victims after alleged hacks.

What is it unnamed.exchange has plastered on the home page of the website: The world's most advanced crypto trading platform

Who in their right mind would believe such nonsense?

1064  Other / Meta / Re: ...about bitcointalk forum. on: September 18, 2023, 05:09:58 PM
This is about freedom, let us allow everyone to enjoy this freedom at the confine of the forum rules and regulations.
Everybody should enjoy the forum within the rules, I think you will not find a single member that would disagree with the above comment.

This is about freedom, let us allow everyone to enjoy this freedom at the confine of the forum rules and regulations.
Yes, people have the freedom to express their opinions. So what are you ranting about?
Ulterior motives, perhaps? Or some experience where he was either accused or simply witnessed names being thrown around.

Maybe theymos will have to deactivate signature campaign let's see how many people will remain active here genuinely.
To be honest, what you just said is a load of rubbish. At the time it was considered to ban signature campaigns or disable signatures but to stop the spam problem in the forum where you had a lot of people writing rubbish to rank up and earn money.

As theymos is smarter than that, he came up with the idea of the merit system, which reduced the spam problem a lot because before it was introduced people would rank up simply by seniority, and many would just do it by writing rubbish one-liners in mega-threads and stuff like that. I was on the forum during the changeover, when the merit system was introduced, so I could see what happened.

What you call genuineness I'll explain it to you: if theymos ends with the signature campaigns today, tomorrow traffic would be reduced so much that you wouldn't even recognise the forum. I've seen other forums die but for other reasons, and that's when you go there and you think about replying to a thread but you see that in most of them the last reply was a few days or even weeks ago.

On the other hand that would be giving away traffic to other forums, where the genuineness you are talking about would go, and if this forum is mainly to preserve Satoshi's writings I think it is better if it remains an active forum than if it looks like a tomb or a desert.
The OP clearly is unhappy at aspects of way many of us view some members. Of the list he made which seems to detail ways in which some forum members frown upon certain activities or certain members, he has made a fairly accurate case to demonstrate members can be viewed unfairly and accused of being the very things he listed. However, the irony is that with what he quoted he has made the case those accurate assumptions when being accused of being the very things he is complaining about.

Yes, people have the freedom to express their opinions. So what are you ranting about?
Not actually about freedom of speech, but freedom of one's speech shouldn't be in such a way to make another believe they lost their own freedom or they never had the freedom.
It is an unfortunate fact but if the OP wants members to have freedom to express their own opinions without restriction to please others, then that same freedom works both ways.
1065  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitcointalk user Joerii passed away... on: September 18, 2023, 12:12:17 PM
When you see news like this, you start to think about how a person can suddenly die. All our topics in the topic of reputation are sheer vanity of vanities. All of them turn into such a small thing compared to the grief that befell this young man and his family.
When you put it in that manner, it really does bring a new angle to the word vanity when used in context of the reputation thread. There is much more to life to look forward to rather than to be held back by vanities.

I also want to express my condolences to the family; maybe one day they will come here just to read his life story here. I would also like to say: always tell your children and loved ones how much you love them and do not spare your feelings, because there may come a time when it will be too late.
I would like to echo the sentiments you have expressed so elegantly about condolences for the family. Also your advice to never spare feelings for those that you love and to tell them you love them otherwise there might not be another opportunity.
1066  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BC.GAME Deposit problem (9 days and counting) on: September 18, 2023, 01:04:22 AM
Hello, I deposited cryptocurrency (XLM) into BC.game and forgot the memo. I have already filed a complaint, and I have been waiting for my deposit for 9 days. I believe it's time for them to release my balance.

if a BC.GAME dude comes here i will be happy to give the ticket ID or my user.

my user id is 3835966

https://ibb.co/wSj5Ls7
Here is the image you posted the link for:

the support did say that memo/tag cases might take 72 hours to more than a week. I know it can be frustrating but you were the one who made a mistake, perhaps being more patient would not be a bad idea.
I think from the manner in which the OP wrote, he is resigned to waiting. It is basically an error on his part and he seems to understand that but having to wait endlessly for a resolution is not acceptable. It has been over week and he has not been contacted.

anyway, I sent their forum representative a PM informing him about this case, there is no guarantee but he might be able to make a follow-up about your issue and hasten the process of it being resolved.
That was a positive step by you. Hopefully their forum representative will be in contact with the OP soon.

1067  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is there anything unusual in these screenshot? on: September 18, 2023, 12:18:52 AM
For a long time, I have strongly believed that there are many alt accounts in local boards, especially in the Pakistani or Bangladeshi LBs, but since every accused is innocent until proven guilty, we cannot take suspicions and build facts on them.
If any of you find any evidence or connection between any member in my Merit thread, PM me so I can put them on the ignore list.

LBs deserves the best, but it is better for them to know that developing an account until it reaches 5k is much better than creating an army of alternative accounts and will give them best payment rate with lowest effort (you need about 4 full member accounts aka 160 posts/week to make the same amount of high merit account 40 posts/week.)
There is a connection between overt merit abusing between farmed/suspicious/alt-accounts in certain local boards, that is a fact but we all agree it does not mean anybody is alleging all members of a particular local board are merit abusers, farmed accounts or cheats. The practice is not limited to local boards, the global board is also affected.

I agree, all members (regardless of primary/local board) should understand they should build up their accounts and their ranks with honesty and contribute along the way with constructive posts rather than resort to other methods. Unfortunately, that is not how it works when some try to control a number of accounts in the hope of enrolling them on to multiple campaigns at the same time because of the lure of potential income.

The other person is 2Pizza410000BTC. It took a few pages of browsing and matching the merit history from the screenshot shared by OP.
The name of this account has become frequently mentioned, and I have talked about it before. Whatever you doing, please stop it.

The account that gave him a merit (2Pizza410000BTC) is active in this local board (বাংলাদেশ (Bengali)), and all merits earned are from Wall Observer BTC/USD plus copy/paste method.

This account tried to post in different local baord Nigeria (Naija) but his post was in English.
It reminded me of an account that was recently banned (Unfortunately, was active in the pizza challenge)
I'm going to put him on my watch list, and maybe he'll start using an AI tool as the banned account did Grin.
That member has received 105 merits since registering on 30th May 2023 and considering it is 17th September 2023 and has reached Full Member rank, it seems he is on his way to where he wants to be because his previous three posts have been used to apply for signature campaigns.
1068  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitcointalk user Joerii passed away... on: September 17, 2023, 11:43:43 PM
A few days ago I got the news that Bitcointalk member Joerii (Joeri Pross) passed away, leaving behind a wife and 2 young kids.

A lot of you may have known him as he was one of the "oldbie" users on this forum and community manager for a lot of projects, like Factom.

He went missing august 30th and his body was found september 2nd.

https://www.noordhollandsdagblad.nl/cnt/dmf20230904_76160519

As stated in the second article, there's a "GoFundMe" started for his wife and kids.
Already 585 donations have been made and €18,315 has been raised.

It is extremely sad news whenever an announcement is made about a forum member passing away. I cannot recall having any contact with him, I did not know him personally but my heart goes out to his family and friends and also to all those that knew him and those who held him in high esteem from the forum.

It is because of very poignant moments such as these that allow for moments of self analysis and reflection, when I wonder how things can change from one situation to another within the blink of an eye and what steps can be taken to financially protect loved ones for when the worst does happen. This is heartbreaking news.

Though it will never soften the blow of his loss, at least his family will not have to go through a protracted period of trauma if his death was being investigated as suspicious. Investigators have ruled it was an accident and I am sure we all send our sympathies and support to his family and friends.

I spoke to him on Telegram a lot, he always had ideas and was very creative, driven and he really could organize something and keep his promises.
Honest and generous too, not really caring about money but more about "being part of the game" in general.

I'm not saying I was among his best friends but we got along fine and had many things / interests in common.

"De mortuis nil nisi bonum", the Romans said. But about him, I couldn't think of any negative.
From the way you refer to him it is clear Joeri Pross was a good person, it is difficult to comprehend what his wife and children are going through. I hope the donation target is exceeded by a huge margin as it will contribute towards the benefit of his family.
1069  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mark Cuban's Metamask was hacked on: September 17, 2023, 07:01:44 PM
If the issue was not serious it would have been somewhat laughable and passed off as a joke. To be honest, it sounded more like a publicity stunt than a serious incident that should make us all more cautious about the software we install on our devices. The lesson is there for all to learn regarding verifying the software before installing it (checksum/signature) but it does seem strange why he would use Metamask to hold any form of assets especially to the value of approximately $870,000.

Sorry about the incident, I didn't know that even billionaires get scammed like this. These scams are supposed to be for the people who don't have a lot of money and when someone promises big returns to them they get excited and greedy thinking that they can earn a lot of money with what they have and then the scammer takes away what they have. But if someone has millions or billions of dollars, why would they be interested in getting 5 ETH from someone?

It was most probably done by a phishing website or something where he might have connected his wallet, or as he said, he might have downloaded the extension from somewhere unsafe and not from the official source which is a newbie mistake and someone of his calibre shouldn't have done that.
1070  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: September 17, 2023, 04:17:59 PM
It seems as though you are leaning towards a win for Ngannou. After 40 vote in the poll 21 have gone for Fury to win whereas 19 have gone for Ngannou. I find this quite surprising as I thought most would have had Fury as the overwhelming favourite to win the fight.

52.5% for Fury against 47.5% for Ngannou (21/19) is far too close to call. Many members here believe Fury will suffer his first defeat  Shocked

Neither mate; 1) Fury's current form is not surprising 2) Mike Tyson's role may help but not significantly 3) There is nothing new in Ngannou, he's just the same fighter 4) Obviously not random.

It's just that users here believe that Ngannou can make a difference in his fight versus Fury but not easily and those who know Ngannou's style are mostly the ones who also voted in favor of him. I mean, sure, this particular sport belongs to Fury because it is his to begin with but Ngannou is a different animal which makes it more interesting compared to the past cross over fights that we had.
1071  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: DO NOT BET ANYMORE ON SPORTSBET.IO, wrong bet decision on unusual match on: September 17, 2023, 04:10:52 PM
I've been on sportsbet.io for 2 years, and before this, I thought everything was fine, but now I feel like there are slowly emerging problems on sportsbet.io.
One thing I can tell you with confidence is that the Sportsbet representatives in the forum are very active and try address points of contention very quickly. If you or other members have any issues that are posted here, I am sure they will be addressed within an acceptable time.

Hi Jorjorjo1234,

First of all I want to say we really value you as a player at Sportsbet.
As others have already indicated, this game ended in a draw (there was no OT) so Shimane Susanoo Magic +2.5 was the winning side.
You can chalk this up as a "bad beat" and better luck with your future wagers.

Best,
jeremypwr
I hope you understand the reply given by jeremypwr, clearly Sportsbet value you as one of their players. If you put this particular experience down to a learning process you will probably move forward and not look back.

1073  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mark Cuban's Metamask was hacked on: September 17, 2023, 02:41:55 PM
Every one of us will download software on a regular basis but how many of us verify the signatures? It would take a couple of minutes for the checksum but many of us overlook it and continue to install the software without caution. If there was suitable anti-malware installed it might block the install but again if it is bypassed and installed the damage will inevitably be done.

This incident was unnecessary, he did not have to lose those funds. He really should have paid more attention to what he was downloading and from where. If any good can come from it, we all should look at it as a reminder to verify software before installing regardless of where we download it from.

He admitted downloading a version of Metamask that has shit on it from this we can conclude not because you are popular you are good at securing your account its always a case-to-case basis for every holder,
It will not affect his wealth but the thought that he has been hacked will make him realize that he can lose all his Cryptocurrency if he is not mindful of his security.

This is a reminder to all of us to always watch our wallets be updated on the latest method to secure our funds and get updated on how these hackers work so we can take the necessary actions.
1074  Other / Meta / Re: Is the first Merit the hardest Merit to get? on: September 17, 2023, 02:02:04 PM
This is true, at least that is how it should happen. If a newbie posts something that is appreciated by the community then that should be spotted immediately and would probably result in merits but in many cases that does not happen. What can also happen is that far too many debatable or (what one could consider subjectively) unworthy posts from established/non-established members receive a disproportional number of merits but that is the way of the forum. Democracy is expressed in various manners.

if a user is newbie but have in depth knowledge of bitcoin and working of bitcoin then community will identify him and will give merits according to contribution and value he is providing,
1075  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mark Cuban's Metamask was hacked on: September 17, 2023, 12:27:30 PM
What surprised me was the huge amounts of crypto he was holding on browser add-ons. Does it make sense to do that when there are many options available. You can use hardware and desktop wallets but to use a browser is not ideal for long-term storage. Considering he has an estimated wealth of over several billion USD$, he will get over the loss but the news should serve as a lesson for others to not get complacent.

This news reminds us once again that even if you are tech-savvy, you should be very careful when using crypto wallets.
1076  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Hypedrop.com supposedly withholding 3.9 million $ withdraw on: September 17, 2023, 12:10:43 PM
Would you also consider that in a number of cases KYC would be asked as a first step in attempt to dissuade the customer/client from either getting their deposits refunded or even withdrawing their winnings?

The number of claims I read in my early days in the forum about casinos asking for KYC and then rejecting them by playing the IP address card or multi-account cheating card in order to put obstacles in the way of withholding legitimate winnings. It (KYC) probably could serve some useful purpose in some scenario but in the end it seems to be used more for nefarious purposes by casinos than the need for their security control procedure.

KYC is such a joke honestly. I'm sure it's useful in some cases, but I think they go way too far on some of the things they think they can ask. For example, source of income??? That's none of your business. If I gamble, I am using most likely signature campaign funds and from what I think I remember reading, a certain site doesn't accept that as valid income. How much of a joke is that?

If KYC was only name address and maybe telephone number for tax purposes, I could get on board. Problem is they want a load more and it's kind of an invasion of my privacy.
1077  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Fortunejack scam me for 279.6 usd on: September 17, 2023, 12:03:31 PM
FortuneJack is scamming a lot of people,
Do you have any evidence to back up your claim? It is very easy to post about allegations but can you provide evidence to demonstrate if what you are stating is even true?

Maybe I was too hasty in accusing him of fraud. I was very angry, the time after which my bonus will disappear is ticking. My conclusion is based on the answers from semi-robots from technical support. For a final conclusion, I need to wait for a response from a Fortunejack representative. I can also assume that the company representative did not leave his comment due to the fact that it is the weekend and people who can solve this problem are simply not in touch. I can also assume that Fortunjack himself does not know that a similar problem may arise with the bonus, that it cannot be used due to coincidences of factors.
The final conclusion can be made after the comments of the Fortunejack representative! I am sure that such a large casino will not hide because of 279.6USD. I'm sure I'll hear an answer within the next week.
If you are assuming you did not receive a reply from FortuneJack because of the weekend and you are sure you will hear from them within the next week, you should probably consider refraining from writing here until then or unless there is a specific need. Hopefully the matter will conclude in the way it should with complete fairness.
1078  Other / Meta / Re: Merits in WO on: September 17, 2023, 11:46:01 AM
WO remains (effectively) unmoderated and posts and merits flow as they do without restriction or censor and it seems that status will not change. WO will not be locked and it will continue under the current rules for a long time to come.

I would not be in favour of a two-tier merit display system. If campaign managers will look at the number if merits received by applicants as a condition of acceptance or increased payment, they can discover the source of the merits if it is important to them or their clients.

As per the excellent now locked thread where discussion about merits in WO was initiated, various suggestions were put forward. If theymos took steps to either cap/limit merits based on various criteria then on specific threads then that might make a lot of members unhappy because the poll in that thread resulted in 97 votes of which 59 were against disabling merits in WO and only 38 were in favour.

The numbers of merits involved in WO are quite staggering. Now that some campaign managers are looking at the number of merits received by prospective participants to set a pay rate for particular campaigns, this is something they might possibly overlook.
That is something completely different, and the campaign managers together with the clients they represent have the right to determine their own rules. I am not sure if LoyceV's or some other tools can be used to easily display where the members have received their merits. That way, if managers don't want to count WO merits, they know how to do it. It's similar to how they get to decide the boards where the posts won't count for the weekly quota.

I just don't feel like the forum and the moderators should intervene and make their own subjective changes by saying we don't like you getting merits in the WO thread so we will now cancel them or perform any other changes. If the WO thread, its posts, and merit sharing are problems, just lock it. But they haven't done that.
1079  Other / Meta / Re: Is the first Merit the hardest Merit to get? on: September 17, 2023, 11:29:27 AM
I been here a month now and finally got my first Merits Smiley
Congratulations on your first merits. Welcome to the forum  Grin

I disagree here, in the "Local board" you can basically just say "Hey I am new here and want to be Full Member could you guys please help me?" and whops, you got like 50 merits in a couple of days.
Can you pointed out which user did this? I mean you can't just write this because of your own assumption or anger. It's correct many new accounts get a lot merit in local board, but we don't understand about the language, using google translate isn't really accurate though.

If someone else is begging in local board and the moderator didn't delete such kind post, even more it get supported by the other users, it's worth to take an action.

Personally I don't care if someone get 1000 merits in local board, the problem is if these users are participating in signature campaign.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5253221.msg62387639#msg62387639

This is just one of the topics he beg for Merits... With this system he could have ten account ready to be Full Member by now.
I think that is wrong, when it's people without Local boards that maybe contributes good but don't even get close to the Merits a Mertit whore get.
And now I don't think about myself, I normally post low quality posts (but doing my best) but the most thing I do is to read other post, and learn about bitcoin.

And this is only ONE example. I promise you it's a least many many many many more!

Cheers buddie.
Without doubt you are absolutely right, there are many many many many more! examples. Some are simply shameless begging and some are flooding the WO thread. Another trend has been for what appear to be posts made for merits in the Save your nice merit records here thread. The number of pointless posts made there in the hope others will see and then merit them even though some there are posting images of merits  and activity that, well, simply do not fit the bill according to the thread title.

Begging for merits can be carried out in various manners from the blatant demanding to the subliminal requesting (and many more different ways).
1080  Other / Meta / Re: Cybersecurity subforum on: September 17, 2023, 11:20:12 AM
The thread has not been posted in since January but I am posting here because this is a very good topic to have discussions about. In a nutshell, I do not think the sub-board will be created on the basis it is not essential as far as the forum is concerned. Yes, it would have some use in real-life situations and the internet is full of advice and links (as suggested below) but unless there is something specific to cover security aspects related to the forum, there simply is not a requirement for it.

The fact that Luke Dashjr got 3 $million worth of BTC hacked made me remember this thread. If someone with such level of expertise gets his networth hacked, it proves that cybersecurity is a crucial subject in Bitcoin and there should be a sticky guide about it, since a lot of people would find this forum when starting.

It also proves Bitcoin is not ready for prime time when it comes to self-custody of funds. Most people would probably be safer leaving it on a regulated exchange or buying through an ETF than exposing them to potential hacks unfortunately.
By making a few searches on Reddit, I found a lot of cybersecurity channels listed below which can help everyone that has concern about it.

I'm just saying that there are a lot of existing forums specialising in this subject. But I'm not against the idea because it will be convenient if we have our own.
