401  Other / Off-topic / Re: What would you do if you received 20 bitcoins? on: August 11, 2014, 03:07:22 AM
what a dumb ass OP is.

Are you still a fcktard who think bitcoin is some toy money?

Because the same question can be asked for USD, what would you do if you found $10k on the ground?

Bitcoin is money, now think how dumb you just sound.

My advice to you, spend it to have better education dumbass.

why you so angry man? you got issues or what?
402  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: 37 BTC STOLEN from electrum NEED HELP on: August 11, 2014, 03:04:09 AM
why would a hacker gain access to your BTC and only steal "SOME" of it?

maybe he felt bad about robbing the guy clean so he left a little something behind.

OP, why did you e-mail yourself the seed? that's a terrible decision - you should have done cold storage too, so you wouldn't even need to email yourself anything.

i think the same kinds of people lose their coins and post here.. are the ones who don't understand what bitcoin is (plus they don't use cold storage), otherwise i'm not sure wjhy they'd ask for help getting it back, because there's nothing anyone can really do after the coins are gone. that's the nature of bitcon.. you can't reverse a transaction.
403  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoiner Personality - MBTI/Keirsey Poll on: August 11, 2014, 03:00:45 AM
i'm INTP and i don't feel special at all. it's a small sample size, but damn, more than 60% of us are either INTP or INTJ.
404  Economy / Speculation / Re: "Dell is now the world's largest ecommerce business to accept #bitcoin" on: August 11, 2014, 02:58:29 AM
I would prefer google & intel to start accept bitcoin
Both Google and Intel really do not sell anything directly to consumers. Most of what they sell are things that are B2B transactions. I think this kind of bitcoin related commerce is a long ways away (at least a year), however when this type of commerce does start to happen the demand for bicoin will likely increase a lot and so will the price.

it would be good to move on towards B2B. that way, when dell or any other retailer sells anything, it doesn't need to use coinbase or any 3rd party after making a sale; instead it can just send the bitcoins directly to google, and if googles chooses, they can cash it out.
405  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wikipedia Raises 237 BTC Through Donations In One Week on: August 11, 2014, 02:53:27 AM
^ wikileaks went on to accept bitcoin.. and bitcoin is still obviously going strong. so i'd say that despite his genius, satoshi was wrong in this instance. i think he was right to disappear though.

But I thought they didn't accept bitcoin until way later?

wikileaks is not the same as wikimedia/wikipedia though. julian assange is associated with wikileaks. satoshi was against wikileaks accepting btc because it is an organization that functions to expose government secrecy.
406  Other / Off-topic / Re: I just donated to Wikipedia. Using Bitcoin. on: August 11, 2014, 01:53:31 AM
I somehow missed the news that Wikipedia now accepts bitcoin donations.

It's hidden in there in "other ways to donate" and apparently they got 140k (in dollars) worth of BTC just on the first week they started accepting it.

Can you provide a link to that stat about how much they received.  140K in USD is not insignificant.

first link on a search right here http://lmgtfy.com/?q=wikimedia+bitcoin+donation

it's also posted in the general forum i believe.

Hey asshole, lmgtfy was cool 2009.  If you don't have a link to the info you can stfu.  Thx.

i posted a link that showed the amount of bitcoin that was donated. it was just a simple google. you could have done it.

No, you posted a link to a google search with a smart-ass animation from 2009 which was perhaps cute the first time anyone saw it 5 years ago.  It's not my job to google everything that someone posts on the bitcoin forum without evidence.  If I say to the OP, "hey where do you see that? can you post a link?" then some smart ass "derp, why don't you google" is an unhelpful reply and that's why i'm calling you out for it.  Obviously I can google anything I please but that doesn't meant that I'm going to turn up the same sources that the OP found.  In fact, Wales' twitter sems to suggest the OP was off by an order of magnitude.  Because I don't click on your asshole lmgtfy link, I have no idea what you found.  If you want to try again more helpfully, that's be cool.  Otherwise you might find this helpful:

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=asshole

you asked for a source, and i gave you one... then you didn't click on it and get angry. all of this could have been avoided if you had searched google. that's all i have to say about that.

@question authority: Wikimedia needs to sell those coins. Like they need to sell stock donated to them. Even if they'd love to hold them, they can't because of the structure of their foundation. Read it up..

I don't believe for one second that they bought Bitcoin for pennies and sold it later for a huge profit. If that were true why not just start accepting Bitcoin donations several years ago when they were first approached? Also, where did they exchange them? Do they have an address that can be checked? That's total BS. They finally know an easy way to get cash for them so they accept them now.
Wikileaks is still a very controversial enterprise and many payment processors does not want anything to do with them. Wikileaks would need to open an account on an exchange and open a bank account to receive the money to. Both the exchange and bank would become magnet for possible regulatory action/investigations that are unrelated to their dealings with wikileaks.

They also tried to start accepting BTC donations in the early days of BTC, but satoshi asked they not accept BTC donations because it would attract too much attention to BTC when BTC was too young.

Source?

finally found it.. it was on page 3. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1735.msg26999#msg26999

Basically, bring it on.  Let's encourage Wikileaks to use Bitcoins and I'm willing to face any risk or fallout from that act.
No, don't "bring it on".

The project needs to grow gradually so the software can be strengthened along the way.

I make this appeal to WikiLeaks not to try to use Bitcoin.  Bitcoin is a small beta community in its infancy.  You would not stand to get more than pocket change, and the heat you would bring would likely destroy us at this stage.

here is also his 2nd to last post. i think the wikileaks issue was what sent him away. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2216.msg29280#msg29280
409  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are You Spending Bitcoin? on: August 10, 2014, 11:54:51 PM
i haven't spent any yet so far. i think retailers need to offer discounts that would offset the exchange fees.. in that case, i'd buy bitcoins off the exchange and then make my purchase since it wouldn't cost anything and would help bitcoin.

alex jones on "vaccines." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfZMS4nCLFE

he is just a kooky dude. it's his schtick - anything that is controversial, he'll take the counter mainstream side. sometimes being counter-mainstream ends up being right, other times it ends up being crazy. he's just doing it for show.
415  Other / Off-topic / Re: I just donated to Wikipedia. Using Bitcoin. on: August 10, 2014, 07:17:02 PM
so, what services does wikimedia use? we should get those guys to accept bitcoin, so then they don't have to cash the coins out.

And another one that focuses mostly on his alleged missteps

Quote
The glare of Iowa’s bright lights this week shows Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has work to do if he wants to win the GOP nomination.

The likely 2016 contender spent the first half of the week barnstorming the Hawkeye State, traveling 800 miles to meet with the divergent tribes that make up the state’s Republican base.

But while Iowa Republicans give him credit for reaching out to voters outside his natural base, they say he needs to polish his message after a series of missteps that drew local and national attention.
Paul spent much of his week trying to explain his view on Israeli foreign aid, at first claiming he’d never supported cutting it — which he has, repeatedly — before walking back those remarks

...

More...http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/214768-paul-faces-tough-road-to-2016

better that it happens now than when his campaign is fully-fledged. he's getting his practice in after all. those were really bad gaffes though, and if we were a few months away from election and he said that stuff.. it would really hurt his chances.

i hope they end up keeping some of the coins to be used instead of just exchanged.

the source is buried somehwere here on bitcointalks.. i saw it a while back. maybe i can find again. i don't feel like digging through this rubble, but you can if you want https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3;sa=showPosts;start=220

they raised something like $150k in bitcoins in.. about 1 day right? there were probably so many people who wanted to donate in btc, and finally when wikipedia does accept it, it floods in.
419  Other / Politics & Society / Re: SOUTH KOREA sends 720 lb toxic payload to North Korea on: August 10, 2014, 12:12:42 AM
I think people hate North Korea so much, that they forget that the people there are the biggest victims. They are brainwashed their whole life and live in a poverty more extreme than central africa!

people need to distinguish government from a group of people. i am american, and my government does not represent my thoughts and feelings, so don't blame me for invading other countries.
