i've never been hit by a meteor, and i don't care to have it done to me to see "what happens when it does." likewise, i don't want to put my penis on a mousetrap.

it will get smaller and smaller. ray kurzweil has mentiond that he thinks there will be nanobots that we use to treat diseases. 15 years doesn't seem like a long time for technological advance, but with weber's law and the idea of singularity.. many crazy ideas are possible.
1323  Other / Off-topic / Re: Should I sell 2 BTC to take hubby to the Kings Stanley Cup game for anniversary? on: June 13, 2014, 10:55:34 PM
if money were tight, and the wife didn't like hockey.. i'd just say "let me go solo." makes more sense.. it is important to share moments with your spouse, but shit, i don't mind going alone.
1324  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we all write to FBI asking not to sell bitcoins but hodl them? on: June 13, 2014, 09:12:23 PM
I dont see too much of an issue with this. It's a private auction with the coins, not a exchange selling them off. If they went to an exchange to do this, I would be very concerned, but with a private auction it creates a sale outside of the BTC ecosystem and should have little effect on the price aside from speculator fears.

It doesn't matter if the mass amount of coins are sold on exchange, or privately. It'll eventually trickle down to the market. Sure the FBI isn't originally dumping it on an exchange, but there is no guarantee that the auction winner will not in turn dump it on an exchange or hold them.

it'll still be a net positive if the auction draws massive whales that would otherwise not have dipped their feet., something like an impetus for wallstreet to join the game. but no one knows whether that will happen or not.

if the employee's files were so important, why did he not backup his data? fatal mistake, and now it's going to cost him $400+.
1326  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Marriage as a contract in the blockchain. on: June 13, 2014, 08:26:07 PM
it makes perfect sense. if you are getting married, you are basically being chained.. to the block?
1327  Other / Off-topic / Re: Should I sell 2 BTC to take hubby to the Kings Stanley Cup game for anniversary? on: June 13, 2014, 08:24:32 PM
kinda hard to give a suggestion when we don't know what your financial situation is.. as in how much income do you make, and how many bitcoins you have.. and i'm sure you don't want to disclose that.

Pretty much average middle class working family here.  No real savings at this point because we are "fully" invested in BTC.  A bit risky but so far it has been a risk we believe is worth taking.  We are not huge holders by any means so selling any is hard to do compared to some earlier adopters on here for sure.

But the Stanley Cup is a bit elusive.  Decisions, decisions. Wink

You shouldn't "fully" invest in anything.
NOTHING is guaranteed and that includes BTC.

My opinion is that you should do what your heart tells you is the right thing to do and not ask strangers on a forum about opinions, and that includes mine as well.

yeah, that's kinda crazy. i hope the both of you are prepared for a worst case scenario (bitcoin collapsing).

Well, with "fully" I basically mean all of our savings, but not our retirement accounts.  We haven't mortgaged the house or anything.  Although it is tempting. Wink  Bitcoin is so liquid it is great to use as a savings account. We can access the funds within a few days if needed so all of our extra cash, which isn't much but has grown at an amazing rate thanks to the past bubble, is in BTC.

Of course we have considered the worst case scenarios.  It just hard not to invest as much as we can afford to lose with BTC.  And it makes it hard to pull out any of that for purchases that seem "frivolous" like hockey games at these prices.

might as well go to the game then. it's not every year that your favorite team makes it to the stanley cup. just tell him he can't ask for sex for 2 months if you do this for him  Cheesy
1328  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do You smoke? tobacco/weed on: June 13, 2014, 08:22:46 PM
How much tobacco/weed for your needs cost you per month?

more than i would like to think about. cigarettes... ~$30/month (5-6 packs)... weed is much more expensive where i live than up north, and i am only willing to smoke the highest grades. i usually spend $500-700 a month on weed.... really need to either move up north where the growers are or start growing my own....
That is a lot of money spent on weed, do you buying it with BTC?

in college, i knew a guy who was getting sent $2,000 from his parents for school. he would spend $600-$700 on weed, the rest would go to rent and other things. eventually he had to eat much less, for the sake of weeds. he would complain that his parents didn't send him enough money.
1329  Other / Off-topic / Re: NBA Playoffs - Which team are you rooting for? on: June 13, 2014, 08:17:41 PM
^ i think their issue this year was that they didn't have anyone who could contain KD. they need a tough, gritty player like kawhi leonard.. and i also think blake griffin is still overrated. maybe he's a top 20 player, but i can easily name 10 guys who are better than he is.

they do have a lot of good players, so maybe should should try a bunch of good players for a really great one.. because i don't think the clippers are going very far with blake griffin as your 2nd best player.

you've probably put it all into BTC by now. if you haven't, put it all into BTC. Tongue

that is crazy talk.. we don't know if bitcoin will collapse or rise to the sky. putting all of his money into 1 basket is really stupid. i hope he doesnt do that.
1332  Other / Off-topic / Re: Should I sell 2 BTC to take hubby to the Kings Stanley Cup game for anniversary? on: June 13, 2014, 08:04:56 PM
kinda hard to give a suggestion when we don't know what your financial situation is.. as in how much income do you make, and how many bitcoins you have.. and i'm sure you don't want to disclose that. if $700 isn't going to leave such a huge dent in your pocket, then why not? it might be a once in a lifetime thing.. you never know when the kings will be in the stanley cup finals again.
1333  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What happens in the government if Bitcoin takes over? on: June 13, 2014, 08:03:05 PM
bitcoin can't take over. if it were that dangerous to the establishment, they'd do everything in their power to stop it.

Yes, they will still have ways of controlling it and people, in fact i think bitcoin is beneficial to them, they know fiat money failed, and bitcoin is the perfect solution.

nope, the establishment depends on fiat money to get rich. bitcoin removes the banks, especially if it gains enough steam. banks are an industry that deals with trillions of dollars. all they'd have to do is throw some money at politicians and shit will go down.
1334  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [AGAINST 51% GROUP] PLEDGE AGAINST BITCOIN CENTRALISATION on: June 13, 2014, 08:00:43 PM
if there were a trustable way of contributing towards getting some pooled miners to fight against ghash, i think a lot of people would be willing to pitch in.. including myself. there are lots of people who hold bitcoin, and if investing 1-2 btc ensures the wellbeing of the currency, i think a lot of people would do it. we just need a well trusted figure to organize it.
1335  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Dev Sells 50% of his Bitcoin due to 51% threat. on: June 13, 2014, 07:31:30 PM
i'm thinking maybe i should sell some of my coins as well. the 51% issue seems to be bitcoin's biggest hurdle. nevermind government regulation or scammers, this is the real issue.

1337  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US govt to auction $18mn worth of bitcoin seized from Silk Road #bitcoin on: June 13, 2014, 06:25:59 PM
^ maybe it's not good news, but why is it bad news? in the short-term, yeah, there is a bigger supply than demand, but i don't see what's so wrong with the FBI unloading the coins. it could even turn out draw in some wallstreeters.
1338  Other / Off-topic / Re: Places you want to travel to before you die on: June 13, 2014, 06:23:19 PM
i wanted to hit up china before, but these days im less interested. there are more interesting places to travel, and i don't like sulfuric rain dropping on me.
1339  Other / Off-topic / Re: NBA Playoffs - Which team are you rooting for? on: June 13, 2014, 07:51:22 AM

You've pretty much got it in the bag now...   @Singlebyte...that is pretty easy to say now that we are 4 games into the series....It was a coinflip going into the finals, probably Miami favored by a bit

@keithers

Easy to say now!?  Lol... I predicted spurs all along.

Ok, you are right, I stand corrected  Wink

so man, at least you have a thing or two to look forward to. i really hoe we get marcus smart with that #7 pick.. that or randle. as laker fans, we're still royally screwed with our roster.

Im not really a Lakers fan.. Im from the area, I used to love them easy back on the day when they had Byron Scott on their team. My team had actually been the mavericks for quite some time, even though they haven't been doing well lately

oh, didn't know that.. thought you said you were a clipper fan too. i'm a laker fan but i wish they had a team like the spurs.. where everyone is likable and selfless. instead, we have kobe.. i don't hate him, but he's just not manu/tim/kawhi/tony parker.
1340  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Favorite political figure? on: June 13, 2014, 04:12:31 AM
I would like to ad another great name Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Oct. 2, 1869-Jan. 30, 1948) used non-violent civil disobedience to lead the second most populous nation in the world, India, to independence from the occupying British.

His non-violent campaign was an utter failure. It was the more aggressive campaigns by Indians such as Subhash Chandra Bose which gave India freedom from the British. The policies of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi on the other hand caused millions of civilian deaths in the post-independence religious riots.

i found the most creepy thing about gandhi is that he slept nude in bed with his granddaughter, to test his will against sexual desires.. wtf?
