401  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How To Turn OFF AntMiner S7 Beep Sound ? on: March 11, 2016, 11:47:45 AM
Or you can physically remove the buzzer, potentially even get its pins out cleanly as there isn't much solder at all.
402  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: March 10, 2016, 10:53:30 PM
My opinion:

  • On the purchase of Spondoolies, they plan to "design and build next generation servers to deploy in [their] facility". SP50s are just renderings.

Which makes a complete mockery of the previous video from 6 Months ago when Charles was showing off the racks into which they were going to put the "New Spondoolies next gen SP50 as soon as they are off the assembly line"

But they've done the hard part by leasing an old factory, now all the need to do is install the servers! /s
403  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: March 10, 2016, 10:25:01 PM
My opinion:
We missed some of the great action! BTCS *appears* to have paid nearly $200,000 to a company to court potential investors on their behalf... while generating just $500k revenue... and losing ~$25m in two years....

Advert for BTCS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIzm25IHRrw
Staged 'interview' with CEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppOpZbDoDNw

Highlights (these are rough quotes + my opinion):
  • Sitting down with jacket buttoned *sigh*
  • 3,389% growth last year!!!!!
  • Spondoolies acquisition is game changer
  • Spondoolies is a leader in the mining section (despite not having anything to sell for a year)
  • Spondoolies was there from the onset (eh?)
  • Spondoolies did $28M revenue in 2014, raised $10M
  • Definitive agreement took a while due to "negotiation"
  • "Excited about the possibility of getting it done". Weird language.
  • In reply to "How do you make money"? Costs $130-$140 to mine a bitcoin.
  • They look to maximise their profit. Okay.
  • Mining is the "cash cow" of the industry.
  • Capacity is paid for, "just need to install the miners".
  • On the purchase of Spondoolies, they plan to "design and build next generation servers to deploy in [their] facility". SP50s are just renderings.
  • BTCS has only raised $6M? That doesn't seem right.
  • BTCS will be "Fully funded" in 3-6 months.
  • If they had raised $5M in the near year they'd have done $44M in revenue.
  • "Biggest hurdle was getting through the SEC and the registration statement, they asked a lot of questions"
  • Registered offering coming up.
  • They want 15% of the network. At 1300PH today and 110TH per SP50, they'd have to magic up 2100 SP50s INSTANTLY to make that happen. Even at a $15k build price thats $31M of capital required. Someones fibbing.
  • The CEO, Charles Allen is
    • an engineer (batchelors from Lehigh University)
    • MBA (from "Raymond A. Mason School of Business", ranked 74th in the US)
    • 8 years as various IB, regulatory specialist.

I can't for the life of me get my second module to stay up - it drops after a few minutes regardless of clock speed or pool. Is there a command to turn the auto overclocking off, maybe that'll get it.
405  Economy / Reputation / Re: What happened to Muhammed Zakir ? on: March 09, 2016, 10:25:59 AM
He stole 0.16 BTC by defaulting on a loan with chronicsky back in September. Someone claimed a month or so ago that MZ would be back soon to pay the loan, but he hasn't been back.
And he is still in default trust list ..
Level 3, which no one possibly uses
Level 3 DT is still DT..

Level 3 DT is no more DT than level 13 DT is.
406  Other / Meta / Re: WTF why my shop got deleted on: March 09, 2016, 10:24:04 AM
If he obtained the keys legally via Microsoft, but is distributing them in violation of the TOS, that is not a criminal act
It is a criminal act, no less than if someone subscribed to Netflix (legitimiately), then started distributing their content. It both violates the TOS and is illegal. In some regions willfully violating the TOS and profiting from it may be considered illegal in itself, regardless of what the 'violating' concists of.

it is a violation of their TOS contract, which is a civil issue, not a criminal issue.
Your confusion lies in the assumption that if an incident creates civil liability then its a civil issue at the exclusion of a criminal issue - that is not in the case. In every criminal prosecution I've been involved with (mostly nailing scammers), a mirrored civil liability is also filed. Both civil and criminal for the same action. Another example - I steal your car and in doing so damage it. I am criminally liable for grand theft auto / equivalent and probably property damage. I am civilly liable to the car owner / insurance issuer to the value of damage I caused and likely more. One action, civil and criminal liability.

I believe you have a legal right to demand the DMCA notice from Theymos, as it is your right to dispute it in a court of law if you so choose.
I'm not sure about that. Assuming there is one, Theymos would be the recipient and named party on the DMCA notice and not you. Your dispute is with Theymos / the site administration, not the DMCA issuer. Theymos has the right to do whatever he wants on here, you don't.

Of course filing a false claim may put you in civil and criminal liability
*sigh*

Thanks Dogie - brilliant! Everything I needed to know (I also found some valuable tips on your guide https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=910967)

No problem, good luck.

Why my shop got deleted

its not legal
410  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Support Problems on: March 08, 2016, 09:49:00 AM
I have had no satisfaction from BitMain and have decided to give up trying - at least I'll save myself the cost of shipping the other blown board to them for them to ignore.

I got two new boards from the very satisfactory Centrix International. I also bought their panel kit - it looks very smart and my new S5 is cooler and quieter than before, even with the stock fan.

Now all I need is advice - I will trawl this BB for answers to:
1) What do I do with the new % fan speed option? Is it safe to drop it very low if the temp stays low?
2) How about controlling heat and noise by under-clocking (to keep the noise level down at night time)?
3) Will two of these be better than the stock fan: 2 x Scythe Ultra Kaze Fan 3000 rpm 120 x 120 x 38 mm? Can I run safely on one of these?
4) How far should I push the clock when nobody is in earshot and going to be annoyed by the noise? Is it just a matter of going as high as I can without passing 70 degrees?

1) If you have a consistent ambient temperature and don't see that changing, set it as low as you want while monitoring temps
2) That's fine.
3) I've not tried them but others like them - I think it depends on your ambient if you can get away with one. Search (via google) the S5 thread for people's reports on them.
4) Don't bother pushing them, they're already near maxed out. You end up with less hash rate when you go too high because it starts giving you garbage results. With no voltage control on a string miner, just take stock speed as the max.
411  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: March 07, 2016, 11:04:24 AM
One of the hashing boards seems to keep dropping only a few minutes after I restart cgminer, any ideas? Its temps go down to idle and hashing speed goes to approximately half.
412  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitfury: "16nm... sales to public start shortly" on: March 07, 2016, 09:39:13 AM
The "golden rule" definitely predates Christianity, and might predate the Jews as well, but is NOT specifically a "religion-based" related way to interact with folks.

I've known too many Athiests that follow it (well, most of the time, we're ALL human after all!).

I am one of the VERY few failures of the Navy in their attempt to addict all sailors to coffee - I already had a Pepsi habit and didn't LIKE coffee made "the Navy way" (though my Navy Sludge was Master Chief Mess Cook approved after they tought me how to make the stuff).

The hell has this thread become!

The events happened and were documented as was the evidence, your personal feelings aren't relevant. The beauty of a public trial is that discovery is public knowledge, nothing to hide behind any more.
Woah. There's going to be a trial? This is about the unpaid referrals, right?

Correct and correct.

Did you get anything out of them yet, apart from the occasional patronizing quip?

We filed at the Kiryat Gat Miagistrates Court on the 11th Jan, served to their lawyers (who rejected it) shortly after, and again by registered mail on 18th Jan. They've yet to file a response. The case is open to the public which means anyone can request documents from it...

I can just add that I'm very sad and worried about dogie.

416  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Manufacturer Trustworthiness Guide [February 2015] on: March 06, 2016, 05:46:36 PM
That's going back a bit, but in relation to the "everything is a conspiracy" claims from Guy when why I wouldn't change the score specifically for Spondoolies. He then tried to discredit me claiming I had even changed the system specifically for him when it had not and the exact same situation had been both documented, explained and applied four months prior (to BFL). While simultaneously claiming everyone else was being "unethical" and denouncing me from the industry, Guy hid behind the threat of an NDA and refused to reveal or mention why he was so suddenly demanding a score of 100/100.

Continue avoidance and BS-ing. Lier.

...
and if spondoo relies on dogie's ratings for selling their miners, business would seems to be quite dreadful..
Certainly not. Still, it's a lie and I can't let it go without setting the record straight.

The amount of BS and lies one person dog can write poop.

What you don't say is that you changed your own criteria especially for us.

At least you admit you cooked the criteria in December. "In December I added more descriptive text" ...

Show me a proof that you've posted an explanation about your "pre-order" criteria relating to next gen "business model" BS before December. Dogie, you're simply a lier.

That's okay, you can keep lying about not changing your ranking criteria specifically for us.

I believe our NDA is actually doing you a favour. It prevents you from further humiliating yourself.
Then you'll have no problem releasing me from the NDA, right? Or are you going to hide behind it again?
No matter how many times you'll ask, I won't release you from your NDA, which you gladly signed.
You insist on keep lying about changing your criteria specifically for us, I keep insisting on the NDA.

If you're asking if we can afford our entire gen3 planned capacity without injecting more funds via additional investment or pre-selling mining capacity to accredited investors, the answer is no. The same goes for every other company in the space.

Dogie, the amount of BS you're capable of producing is simply amazing. ... I see you now as a negative force in this industry.

Am I the only one who smells desperation when the biggest mining HW manufacturers goes apeshit on a dog meme?

[27/01/2015 13:18:00] Guy - Spondoolies - CEO - +3: You've changed the criteria after the fact, specifically to give us mix
[27/01/2015 13:18:04] Guy - Spondoolies - CEO - +3: I find it unethical.
[27/01/2015 13:20:39] dogie: its meaning has never changed, I clarified the ratings so there was no doubt in the last round

And if you had paid with a credit card instead of gift cards you'd have another layer of protection.

Card issuers usually won't offer protection on Paypal payments citing Paypal as a payment processor, so their transaction is just with Paypal and the customer's dispute is between Paypal and the seller.

Not true, at least not in the US. I've been on both ends of this and CC chargebacks on PayPal payments go through just fine.

Also not true in the EU

Do you have any experience of that or are you just saying that? I have a case with a bank / Visa where they explicitly state that a payment with their card via Paypal is NOT covered by a Visa protection scheme.

I think this is referring to Section 75. We are talking about chargebacks.

http://www.theguardian.com/money/2012/jan/20/section-75-chargeback

Its not, its a screenshot from a letter from my bank exactly in relation to charging back or disputing a scammed transaction paid on a visa debit card via Paypal.
