However, in the UK, I told that not to acknowledge the btc currency.

No? Its treated like any other property with value.

so can anyone confirm this is a legit product or not? is this the only website to buy this from?

Yeah confirmed, was intended for the domestic market only though.
1263  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: August 08, 2015, 10:28:00 PM

No, no its not. You're saying 190W PCI-E connectors are a fire risk when pretty much every minor ever has run at that level or higher. The ASICMiner Cube ran 225W when on 4, the SP20 300W at stock, even the S5 runs 300W when on 2.

SP20 limits power to 288 watts - which is identical to the spec for the connectors, probably deliberately.  S5 running 300 on one connector per board is STUPID - that IS overstressing the connector.
So you're saying that 288W is fine but 300W is stupid.... There is no such thing as a discrete bound, this is entirely about safety factors and how close do you want to get, not "1 more W and it explodes". Using the evidence we've gathered from 1000s and 1000s of past miners we know the approximate threshold and what is pushing it too far. 300W is still fine.We know that

There's a REASON Bitmain insisted on putting 2 on each board (well, yes, overclocking, but even at stock clock they're pushing the spec on the connector pretty hard). I'd also bet that it's a rare thing to see.
They didn't insist on anything, it was arbitrarily inherited from the rev 3+ S3 board which had 2 PCI-E connectors per 160W board. And its not a rare thing, look back in this thread, plenty of people (including me) running S5s on single PCI-Es.

S5 at stock clock or below is within the spec of the connector (official 590 watts "at the wall" is more like 540ish or a little less DC, so 270ish per connector) but even running a stock clock S5 on one connector per board is pushing your luck a bit. Will probably work most of the time as long as the S5 is in a fairly cool room, don't bet on it in summer heat in most areas without A/C of some sort.
I feel like you're arbitrarily deciding what will work or not. I've actively tried these things and I've actively measured cable temps so it doesn't really make sense for you to say its all about to explode.

I'll also point out comments and complaints about burnt connectors are fairly COMMON on the higher end KnC machines which run about 300 per connector.
Neptunes are 400W per PCI-E at stock, not 300W. And even then the failure isn't guaranteed.
1264  Other / Meta / Re: Automatic Default Trust on: August 08, 2015, 10:17:49 PM
Legendary members should get automatic default trust capabilites, after a member becomes legendary, their post history and trust ratings should be screened, if everything looks good, they should automatically added to default trust.

what do you guys think?
what the hell? no. hell no. being on here for 2/3 years and being trusted are two completely different things.
As said, before they are granted this, they will be screened, if they dont deserve it, they wont get it

Then that's not automatic, but uses turning Legendary as an arbitrary promotion point. Makes account selling even more valuable, gauranteed default trust accounts etc. Legendary is rare though, even I haven't reached it yet and by the time I do it'll probably get moved again.

...
The worst thing about the monster is that you need to deploy 28 friggen PCI-e connectors. A 2880w PSU breakout from J4bberwock has at most 20 connectors. Sidehack's 750w PSU breakout has place for 4, and the DPS2000 breakout has 12. You could power this monstruosity with a 2880w PSU + 750w, but then you have to find out if this setup can be used with current sharing... omg... this thing is crazy on all levels
9 boards, 27 PCI-E, 3400W = 380W per board. You could easily use just 2 PCI-E connectors, there are just more than required (like the S3, S5) if you want to use them or want to OC significantly.

9 boards -> 27 PCI-e + controller board which clearly has 1 PCI-e connector = 28 PCI-e connectors.

Running with just 2 PCI-e connectors is the irresponsible thing to do, no need to have a fire risk when mining.

So is this miner real?

Waiting on confirmation (currently midnight and the weekend) but almost certainly.

if they are using the s5 chips, those would have to be some pretty high cfm fans to cool it. the s5 has heatsinks twice the size and they run pretty hot.

So, just detailing the photos now i have some comments:

  • What happened with the monolithic heatsink design? Why start using off the shelf heatsinks with these? are these a low production run?
  • At 75w max rating per PCI-e connector, those hashboards are bound to consume 225w each. There are 3 boards per unit, reaching 675w per unit. That would make the upper consume bound 2075w!!!! How are you running it on ~3400w? wouldn't this be overspeccing the connectors and probably lead to burnt plastic casings? (not that this hasn't happened before, the S5 is overspecced as well)

The original curved thin fin heatsinks have great efficiency while not costing an arm to manufacture. Thicker but short finned heatsinks aren't quite as good but can be crammed into a much smaller space. Its not going to be a problem.

75W is the official PCI-E spec's max, its not the real world max by a long shot. Most miners have been running 150-200W per PCI-E and still plenty more requiring 250W+. Most people ran the S5 off 2 PCI-E.

Wow that is a beast... Yes the server PSU's are perfect as they are designed to be connected in parallel and load share well. I hope they ship them with ear defenders.  Smiley

Seeing the construction makes you wonder if they will release a single unit with 3 PCB, would still be an impressive 2574GH
There is no chaining going on on required here, each board is receiving 12V independently of each other board. Its the same as the people powering 3 S5s with 2 PSUs or even how the SP3X operated.

Shocked  3436w is way to much for home mining. But 7th is awesome!  Grin

That 3436W is just perfect for me.Got 230v/16A  Smiley
As above, you can power each board independently so those with smaller circuits can power one miner with multiple circuits. I did the same on my SP35 and generally do on all my larger miners.

I don't like UK in business.

BitcionCloudServices(UK), Clouthink(UK), Pbmining(Canada)
I lost thousands of dollars in a place like this.

Blockchain, Coinbase, Bitstamp all in the UK. Its just quick and easy to register a 'company' here so scammers often pretend to be UK.

Strange way of unveiling a new product, learning about it from the distributor.  Seems Bitmain reached deep into their pockets
and pulled out a bunch of lint. Cheesy

Maybe Bitmain has no intention of selling this themselves, they could've been special gear for larger farms who paid big $ to get the most hash / power they could squeeze.

Now some of them are unloading to make way for new stuff?

Most likely this was a unit to be sold domestically as a smaller batch to finish off the chips, will see.

Is it possible? Sort of. Should you? No.
1272  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4+ Discussion and Support Thread on: August 08, 2015, 12:12:37 AM
Hoping someone can help me out here.....

I plug in the machine, the PSU fan spins, but the main fans and ethernet port never come on.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Is there a solution?

Either your mains voltage isnt ~190V+, PSU is in overheat protection mode or there's an internal short. 1. and 2. are easy to check, 3. requires opening up the case and doing a visual inspection.

my voltage is 205v+, so I know it is not that.

Why would the PSU be in protection mode on a brand new machine, just out of box?

What should I look for inside?.....I did open one, and nothing looked amiss.

Pieces of metal floating about on the hashing boards would cause it, can be diagnosed by giving the thing a good shake / turning over and listening. Check if any of the PSU cables appea to be cut / damaged, or anything on the terminals of the PSU appearing to be short.

I still have a copy of kncminer-1.01.custom.bin which is padrino's custom firmware that incorporates bertmod and adds all the overclocking features.

Archived here for Padrino's 1.01 with bertmod and OC.

They removed them, without warning or possibility to retrieve posts/files.  Officially because they felt that support could be provided in better ways via official non-forum communication channels.  Unofficially because KnC. Official BertMod releases are here, but might as well go with later tweaked packages: http://tadn.eu/bertmod/

Archived here for bertmod vanilla packages.

You know whats worrying about this? People have actually paid for this scam. https://www.coinpayments.net/feedback-f7b379d69934abd94036f0596913d417

Which is exactly why I advocated that no one create empty threads until - if ever - they arrived.

I messed up the CSS for little while. It's fixed now.

Those are indeed the anti-adblocker decoy posts. A random number are inserted before and after ads. This and several other tricks make it impossible for Adblock Plus to block forum ads (if the advertisers follow certain guidelines) without also completely breaking the site.

I wonder why more sites don't bypass ABP. In fact, I don't know of any others that bypass ABP without outright preventing ABP users from using the site. It's somewhat difficult to arrange the page layout so that it works, and you can't use any external JS or images for ads, but you'd think that the increased value to advertisers (and therefore increased ad revenue) would be worthwhile for many sites. Bypassing ABP is especially easy on sites that require JavaScript, since you can just directly undo what ABP does instead of trying to prevent them from being able to do it in the first place.

90%+ of sites will use a publishing network which will ban them for trying to 'force' the ads on them. Its a rarity that a site direct sells its own ads.

Come on now, you spend all your time in bitcoin discussion / lending and participate in a signature campaign.
1278  Other / Meta / Re: Is this behaviour by people on DefaultTrust (level 1 & level 2) allowed ? on: August 05, 2015, 05:08:13 PM
Without giving a specific example its hard for us to help really.

The tragedy is, as soon as I give out the specific example, the case wont be discussed on the basis of rationality any more, as it is taking place right now. People will then start weighing out how they are benefited by which side and will then take side accordingly.

Well its up to you of course. Though discussion will only ever be discussion and won't actually help change anything.

1280  Other / Meta / Re: SebastianJu getting seduced by trust farmers - and he's loving it! on: August 05, 2015, 02:52:28 AM
Is there any evidence that people blindly start trusting each other, only because there is some green text?

I'd assume one would carefully read the actual trust ratings and follow the references first, before trading with a stranger.

You, as a legendary member, might be savvy in that department but the newbies see "trustful green" and will probably send first.

It must mean something. No one has asked me to use escrow in years.
