Interesting. She is CW when I look at her but if I stare long enough she stops and goes CCW. Closing eyes for a second reverts to CW.

Future pics

Well while it could be true one day. I am 64 so I don't have a 15 year window to hodl.

I guess you young ones will make out very nicely in 25 years or so.

Hey, I put down 2 bitcoins in part to pay for a used Porsche a few years ago. For that I can now buy a pretty nice new one or a small house.

The trick is I have *enjoyed* the car immensely during that time. Enough that the memories over time are probably worth the difference.

Can't hold off on happiness forever but yeah the $30,000 towels from 7 years ago are looking a bit frayed....

Here we have it, another classic example from someone winning a lot of money and blew it away on drugs, fake friends, parties, three boob jobs, impuls shoppings, etc... all gone.

Don't end up like here, if you became wealthy make sure you stay wealthy.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/14458885/lotto-winner-callie-rogers-car-crash-cocaine-benefits/

To be fair she really did benefit from the boob jobs. So I'd consider that a capital asset like the houses.

First, they forced the guy to commit suicide in lieu of imminent chemical castration ordered as a punishment for being gay.
Now they put him on a 50 pound note.
It's like...oopsie.."He wouldn't mind".
Just look at that...they like to celebrate the dead, not the living.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JepmXCFFU_o

Well, when you nail a guy to a tree for the crime of saying people should be nicer to each other, then make him a God you know you're dealing with a weird species. Very little surprises me these days.

Annoying. I just went over to Tesla to pick up a used Model S (there are no new ones) and they want this "Credit card" thing.

No clue what's up with that.

I had to set VPN to the US to get the Bitcoin option. Even after choosing US as the location.

I think the problem is I'm looking at the used cars, they may need to be sold in $$$. I could just go to the dealership but I'm lazy and to be honest I have the car thing covered for the next year or two.

Just got new tires on the Porsche. I was looking at the $500 ones but then thought "get the good ones" and $1.2k of Pirellis are now under the rims.

You still have to pay income tax _somewhere_, no?

Pretty much. Places where you"don't" can have other.... stability issues that would require funding a personal standing army or a very fast helicopter for escape purposes.

Not much in the way of a true free lunch out there. And to be honest a 20% CG tax on this bitcoin runup is really a tax for ants....
427  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 24, 2021, 06:53:56 PM

Only question I would have if I pay for a Tesla with BTC am I still liable for Capital Gains Tax or not.  Huh

Dunno if you’d be liable but I’m almost certain they wouldn’t find out.

Absolutely. And yeah, I would expect the IRS to request Tesla to show the names and wallet addresses of everyone who buys a Tesla with coin. Just to check and verify taxes were paid. No different than bringing a wad of cash in.

quantum computer impacts are getting closer: https://arxiv.org/abs/2103.06159

Quote
Factoring 2048 RSA integers in 177 days with 13436 qubits and a multimode memory

Caution: They did not build such a computer or even factorize anything with it. They just proposed an architecture and calculated how effective it would be if someone could build it.

So this is no reason to panic, but it feels like the impacts are getting closer.

LArgest Quantum computer they can build is 53 Qbits. Still, it is starting to come down the old tracks....

Guys ('n' gal): that's $57,000 we're talking about. Fifty-seven thousand USD! Per coin!

I know: Sometimes I look at old bookmarks from a year or two ago and it's like Bitcoin 6k, 3k, 10k, that sort of thing. 57k is just plain nuts when you think about it.

Wonder what we will say this time next year?
431  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 21, 2021, 04:37:52 PM

That's enough for me to buy
A trip to France across the seas,
A motorboat and water skis,
Maybe even a foregian car,
A charge account at the corner bar,
Not to mention a scrabble board with letters made of gold!

Props to anyone who recognizes this without searching. Some things don't change.....

You know, I just realized I could buy a thousand dollar bill on Ebay. Son came by and looked over my shoulder:

"Hey Dad, what'cha looking at buying"
"Thousand dollar bill"
"How much does it cost?"
"About $3,000".

"I think you're getting shafted" says my son...

Yeah, he's a little bitcoiner too....

Is that a true story lightfoot?

Yes. Literally we had the exchange and I realized it was so insane I had to write it down verbatim.

And technically speaking if you spend it the bank *will* credit your account the value (it is still monetized currency) however when they send it in the Fed will note the SN and remove it from circulation. Unless someone at the bank coughs up the cash to replace it (I wonder if that is legal, possibly).

I suppose one could also take a 1oz $20 gold coin from 1910 to the bank and get $20 credited to one's account. Wonder what the Fed would do with that.

I have it set to play George Clinton's "Big Pump" at 100k. And I don't care if I'm in a meeting with a CEO, when it goes off I'll be dancing on the nearest flat surface.

Yesterday, a neighbour asked me if I know anything about "cryptocurrencies". A couple of years ago I would jump at the opportunity to explain to him all about it, teach him how to set up a wallet, open a Kraken account, etc. Now, I just replied "I've been reading about it, seems to be a thing. Don't know much more than that though, sorry..."

Can't be bothered anymore. It's the same old story, the more others know about you and what you can do, the more work and trouble will fall on you, because, in the end, it comes down to human nature. Everyone's looking for a free lunch, a pill they can swallow and suddenly solve their lives' problems. Well, I say "fuck you, get on your bike and work for it."

Hm. I checked my records and I got into Bitcoin in late 2012 when someone told me about it in casual technical conversation. Granted it's a problem that I had been working on since the mid 1990's, but when I heard the concept that each block had a checksum that included the PREVIOUS block's checksum I suddenly thought *FUCK, THAT'S IT!!!* and started looking.

If that person hadn't talked to me about it I wouldn't have really given it thought till the mid 2010's. So in honor and respect of that I'll give a basic discussion to anyone who asks. And if they start arguing about how it USES THE WORLD'S POWER or is a fraud, or HOW ABOUT THIS SHITCOIN I'll just say "sounds like you already know a good bit, nothing I could say can further that" and start talking about hookers and blow or shit like that.

If someone has a root already nailed into their mind it's pretty impossible, pointless, and annoying to try and weed it out. Better to let life do what it does and let them learn for themselves. Glinda understood this with Dorothy, that's why she had D loot the Witch of the West and follow a pointless road.

Oddly enough I had a root already in my head and saw bitcoin as the right solution to the damn problem of what happens when some fuckhead hacks the database chain and changes an earlier block. And here we are.

With only 100 BTC, you'll be very okay in the future, but you won't be a god. Remember, there are other gigachads who never died and have thousands of BTC, not to mention maybe the corporations that never sold are now masters of the other planets or something.
Sure, but if bitcoin isn't worth much they won't bother to wake me up. I can deal with that.

Quote
you: What year is it?
mad scientist that woke you up: oh, it's about a few thousand years since you died, does the year matter? gimme my 1 bitcoin, it's worth $100 billion today. Enough for me to buy a week's worth of bread. After you, I have a bunch of dead bitcoiners to wake up too, you're the 200th one, don't worry.

Possible, but unlikely. With only 21m bitcoins ever it's going to be worth more than a loaf of bread. And if the world is that crap-sack I'd just say "well, kill me" and go on to the next life or whatever.

Really, there aren't many ways to lose (Ok, they could put your brain in a vat and torture you to give it up, but once again that's not a crap sack universe I want to live in anyway).

lulz

Won an auction on Twitter bidding 1.2M sats for a limited edition swedetoshi Honey Badger finger board.

Someday you will look at this thing and say "I could have bought a Lambo for that."

And you will be cool with this. At which point you will experience total bodhi

^ What am I going to do exactly with those dollars when dead?

I have heirs. Even if you don't have any, you'd probably like to be buried and have everything taken care of, so there are "death plans" for that purpose. A small "token" life insurance plan assigning a close friend to be beneficiary and a "dead man's switch" email saying "here, you get $100k when i died, please bury my body somewhere, or cremate it, ble bleh and keep the change."

Think: "What would a Pharaoh do?"

Edit: This would also be a good time to do the cyronics thing. If you have nothing to lose, why the fuck not? Just get the following tattoed on your forehead and put on your tank:

Hello!
In my brain is the seed code to 1 bitcoin.
Revive me and it is yours.

Include the public key and a signed message saying the above on the bitcoin.

When 1btc is enough to buy a planet you can be SURE that people will do anything to get your mind back. Then go and withdraw your other 100 BTC and be a God in the future.

I'm still working, mostly because it's funny to not really care and be truly honest with people. And let's face it: I am too lazy to try and figure out how to sign up for my own health care.

So far they are thinking of promoting me, which would be bad.

Yes, Office Space is oddly accurate.
