441  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant on: August 29, 2021, 12:11:12 PM
Still good money for Caleb and this good be his biggest paycheck, $10 million + ppv, most likely in the tune of $11 million++ regardless. Kovalev and Jacobs has made their names though that's why a slight higher purse.

Yeah, if he somehow upset Canelo, then maybe they will set up a rematch and he can make double his money, risk worth taking at this point of his career.

What makes you think that he will settle for just $10 million for the rematch, in case he wins this one? Caleb is yet to make his name like Canelo, and that is why he agreed to such a lop-sided deal ($10 million for him and $40 million for Canelo as the guaranteed purse). If he upsets Canelo, then the next time he is not going to settle for an amount which is lower than that given to Canelo. It can be 30-20 (in Caleb's favor) or at least 25-25. This is the fight of his life. If he loses this one, then in all probability he will not get a similar opportunity for the remainder of his career.

Yeah agree with you that i may be possible that no changes being made as pujara was on the firing line but he scored a 90 so now he cannot be dropped now.
Pant surely wont be dropped and rahane is vice captain so maximum possibility is that India will not make any changes in the batting order.

This is strange. One half-century is enough for Pujara to cement his slot in the playing XI? His batting average was 20.37 in 2020. And after the Leeds test, his batting average stands at 30.94. I consider Temba Bavuma as the worst test batsman who has a permanent place in the playing XI. And his average is much higher than this. And keeping someone in his mid-30s in the team despite the bad form is unfair to the younger players like Shreyas Iyer. And the selectors need to be consistent. Why Pujara is being given so many opportunities? I could still remember Karun Nair being dropped after a couple of poor performances (despite having a scored a triple century in that year). He was not given another chance and his test batting average remains at 62.33.
443  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-08-21] Inside Afghanistan's cryptocurrency underground as the country plu on: August 27, 2021, 04:04:49 AM
"some" of the oil fields. Most of them are run owned by anything but American companies, from China and Russia, so 20 years later, let's simply drop this myth about Americans invading countries for their resources as it's getting pretty old. I love that the fact that everyone is talking about the riches of Iraq and Afghanistan but none of the ones in Korea or Vietnam, maybe because it doesn't fit the narrative, right?

Then why the same mistake is being repeated, again and again? Did they stopped after Vietnam? Korea was different, because at that point almost all the cold war superpowers got involved. But Vietnam was an internal power struggle and the US had no business there. And take the example of Iraq. The justification given was that Saddam was manufacturing WMDs. Two decades have passed. Where are the so called WMDs? And then came Afghanistan. After that it was Libya. A country that was one of the most prosperous in the African continent is now even worse than Somalia.
444  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin could destroy economy on: August 27, 2021, 03:53:53 AM
It is really funny the way fiat fanboys try to spread FUD. The global economy is really under threat. But that threat doesn't come from cryptocurrency. The real threat comes from governments and central banks, which are printing banknotes like there is no tomorrow. 2020-21 was unique. For most of the fiat currencies, the M1 monetary supply went up by 100% or more, aided by the stimulus measures. And everyone knows that this is not a viable situation in the long run. In the United States, the federal debt is rapidly inching towards the $30 trillion level. It's just a matter of time before the total collapse happens.
445  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador rolls out 200 Bitcoin ATMs in a bid to speed-up nationwide adoption on: August 27, 2021, 03:17:05 AM
El Salvador is a country of 6.5 million people (with a few millions more living as expats in countries such as the United States). 200 ATMs mean one machine for every 32,500 people. Do you think that this is enough? I am supportive of Bukele's move that made Bitcoin as the legal tender in El Salvador. But the infrastructure is not there currently, and that may leave people frustrated. And I am surprised at the lack of support El Salvador has so far received from the cryptocurrency sector. None of the big names have made any announcement to support them. Justin Sun once spent $4.5 million to get a dinner date with Warren Buffet. If a fraction of that amount is spent, then we can install thousands of ATMs in El Salvador.

England has a lead of 345 runs still they have wickets in their hands and this lead will increase. This match is being completed dominated by the English team. India's chance of winning or drawing this match is very bleak. Indian batting was pathetic, what were they thinking? James Anderson completely destroyed the Indian batting order and now the bowlers are not able to take wickets.

Only top order is in form for India and what Anderson did was to get the top order batsmen out in his opening spell itself. And that doomed the Indians. Apart from a occasional 50s and 60s, the Indian middle order is not performing for some time. On top of that, players like Rishabh Pant want to bat in T20 mode and just throw away their wickets. If the Indians want to remain alive in this series, then they need to make some tough decisions. Players who are not performing for a long time, like Pujara and Rahane needs to be dropped.
447  Economy / Economics / Re: Pakistan's Economy are going to crisis for Taliban? on: August 26, 2021, 11:28:43 AM
Wow, this is actually a really good reason as to why Pakistan's economy is going to tank with the occupation of the Taliban in Afghanistan. Aren't they a nuclear power too? Meaning that they still have a last resort that they can use to their advantage or even probably leverage it to use against neighboring countries to gain some favors in terms of resources.

Even countries such as Israel, India and North Korea have nuclear weapons. And it is suspected that Iran may be also having them. But having nuclear weapons is one thing, and having the technology to launch attacks is another. What will be the use with nukes, if they don't have ballistic missiles which can carry these warheads? China is rumored to have transferred missile technology to Pakistan, but in terms of defense technology Pakistan is ages behind the superpowers. If they decide to blackmail the world with nukes, then the consequences won't be too sweet for them.

The ECB is claiming that their new franchise league (The Hundred) was a resounding success in terms of revenues and viewership.

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/the-hundred-2021-ecb-set-to-increase-women-s-hundred-salaries-committed-to-double-headers-1274466

These are some of their claims:

1. More than half a million tickets sold, despite the pandemic
2. 16 million plus viewers on TV
3. 55% of those who purchased the tickets were watching cricket on the ground for the first time
4. 57% of those who watched the tournament in BBC/Sky were watching cricket for the first time in 2021
5. Children constituted 19% of all the admissions

If what they are claiming is indeed true, then these are encouraging signs.

Yes exactly , Kohli is the biggest name in the cricketing world right now in India. Yes he is not performing since some time but no one can even drop him from captaincy. India is doing well in tests under his captaincy and i believe in him that he will make a come back soon.

Given Kohli's dominance with the Indian team, I won't be surprised even if he demands that Sourav Ganguly should step down from the post of president of the BCCI. And this dominance will continue as long as the Indian team performs well. Kohli will have 100% authority over all the important decisions and the BCCI seems to be happy with the status quo. And at this point I don't think that they can antagonize Kohli, because Ganguly-Shah group is facing tough opposition from the Srinivasan-Pawar cabal within the BCCI.

Indian team all out at 78. The world's best batting line-up falls once again. Another below hundred score. India's batting performance was below average and pathetic. It was a brilliant and dominating performance by the England bowlers. A great bowling attack by the English bowlers, in particular Anderson, who picked up 3 wickets at the top of the order.

LOL.. I was actually expecting this. The England team was left humiliated after their debacle at Lords. There was a lot of criticism, especially towards the tactics by which the English bowlers allowed Bumrah and Siraj to build such a huge 9th wicket partnership. They got carried over by emotions. No such display today. They sticked to the gameplan and ignored the provocations. James Anderson took the three most important wickets in his opening spell, and essentially for India it was all over by then.
451  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: South African Man Loses $900,000 Worth Of BTC After Accidentally Deleting Keys on: August 25, 2021, 02:31:01 PM
This is really a big failure, is there really no way to get them back?

The problem is that the hard drive was formatted several times, and data was written over it on multiple occasions. After 2-3 times, it becomes impossible to recover any data. So unfortunately, the answer is no. With the current technology, you can't get the data back. Even if you have some FBI guys to support you, the technology is not that advanced to recover such data. I feel bad for his losses, because he's so young (unlike me  Grin). Hopefully, he will be able to carry on and book profits from cryptocurrency in the near future.
452  Economy / Speculation / Re: Here’s what traders expect now that Bitcoin price rallied back to $50K on: August 25, 2021, 02:18:03 PM
The ATH level should be the next immediate target. From what I have seen, there were no major resistance levels, from the journey from 29K to 50K. I believe that the next one is not going to appear before $62,000, which is the current ATH level. I can observe a lot of whales rushing in to purchase, in anticipation of the next major bull rally. The correction is now over and the stabilization phase is going to last for a couple of months or so. And this period will provide the last opportunity to accumulate BTC for five-digit prices.
453  Economy / Economics / Re: Pakistan's Economy are going to crisis for Taliban? on: August 25, 2021, 02:06:55 PM
And that possible conflict may threaten those investors to invest in Pakistan. But if Taliban will respect their promise about peaceful government and follow according to sharia law, then, conflict may not arise. But I am guessing some investors will be too cautious as they don't know the future yet in this region. We will see that in the coming months the impact of this Taliban rule. Right now, it is quite early to deduce things.

There can be no peace as long as Taliban is in power. Already they have summarily executed hundreds (if not thousands) of former government employees and anyone who they suspect is not following the strict dress code. They have fired live bullets on ordinary civilians who were waving Afghan national flag. And here you are claiming that they have promised "peaceful government". I know that there are a lot of people around the world who support the Taliban, either in the open, or in secret. I have only sympathy for such people.
454  Economy / Economics / Re: Why don't banks work with cryptocurrency? on: August 25, 2021, 12:00:00 PM
PayPal has started working with cryptocurrencies and it proved to be very profitable for them. So I am not sure why the banks can't do the same. It is not necessary for them to take a decision to exclude modes of payment other than fiat currency. And although it is true that cryptocurrencies threaten the current banking model, there are a few sectors where both the sides can benefit from cooperation. Cryptocurrency is still in early adopter stage, and if the banks incorporate it into their platform, then in the long term they will benefit.
455  Economy / Economics / Re: Pakistan's Economy are going to crisis for Taliban? on: August 25, 2021, 10:51:46 AM
The risk for Pakistan is that the conflict in Afghanistan can spill across the border. The main support base for the Taliban comes from the Pashtun ethnic group. Although this ethnic group comprises of around 40% of the population in Afghanistan, in absolute numbers, they are more numerous in Pakistan. For many decades, the Pashtun majority province of Khyber witnessed a bloody civil war, which was contained only a few years ago. Now there is a good chance that conflict will break out once again in this region.

Cheteshwar Pujara once again got out for single digit score. I don't know why he's not dropped from the playing XI. There is no shortage of talent in India, and it is not fair towards the young players that someone like Pujara is being given so many chances. The same goes for Ajinkya Rahane as well. I am perplexed at the continued presence of these two in the playing XI. And BTW, Jimmy seems to be on fire. Trust me, if he goes on like this, then Muttiah Muralitharan's record for the most test wicket will be under threat.
457  Economy / Economics / Re: Enjoy comunism (III) rats eating dead people and people eating rats in NK on: August 25, 2021, 07:35:15 AM
This is true because I don’t see a single really Souialist or Communist state right now. After all, socialism and communism in theory are completely different from what we see in practice in states that call themselves socialist or communist. The main slogan of communism is from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs. That is, a communist society presupposes a complete abundance of material wealth. If this is not the case, then such states cannot be considered communist. North Korea is a purely totalitarian state and has nothing to do with socialism or communism.

LOL.. don't you get tired of defending communism?

I am 100% sure that you are not from a country where communists were in power. Because I haven't seen anyone from former communist states such as Russia or Ukraine defending them. If "real communism" is different, then please enlighten us and show us an example of such a country. Communism is a bunch of impractical and obsolete ideas, which can never work in real life scenario. Dozens of countries have tried the communist/socialist system, and not even one has been successful. Some of them, like China shifted to capitalism before it was too late.
458  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: August 25, 2021, 06:35:03 AM
The Zimbabwean team does not seem bad. They try a lot but don't get the expected performance. Players like Williams and Tylor are in the squad. Hopefully, they can win the next series. Ireland and Scotland are not very strong teams. Zimbabwe will win only if they can get a stable performance.

Scotland is not a part of the ICC ODI Super League and the matches against them will not provide them any points. Ireland recently put up a very strong performance against South Africa, so I really doubt whether Zimbabwe would be able to beat them. But the good thing for Zimbabwe is that they are sending a full-strength side this time. They should not forget that this series may be their last opportunity to get enough points, to avoid world cup qualifier tournament in 2022.
459  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: August 25, 2021, 06:24:12 AM
I never thought an inconsistent team will be able to repeat the same performance in bowling. An intresting game overall, at one stage I thought the match is over when rain started pouring. WI needed that rain but unfortunately it did not last long. Shaheen afridi took 4 wickets in the second session and 6 in the first. Overall a good performance by the Pakistani side.

That's what inconsistent teams do. They lost the first match by a big margin, and then won the second one quite comfortably. It is a mystery how they manage to lose crucial matches, despite having some of the most promising players such as Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi. And now the T20 World Cup is coming up. Historically, Pakistan has performed poorly in ICC tournaments. But this time they have an advantage, since the tournament is being hosted by the UAE. Winning the trophy will lift everyone's morale.

5% is not a huge amount, and I hope you got something in your pocket after the tax cut. I am someone who purchased BTC for the first time when the prices were really low (back in 2012). The current exchange rates represent 5,000 times increase from my original price of purchase. I have around 30% of my original stash remaining. The rest, I sold during 2013-2021. And I don't regret about selling them. In times of need, I thought that it was better to sell the coins, rather than taking a loan.
