0a) What to Expect (top)
Bitmain's AntMiner S4 combines the hashrate of nearly 5 S3s into a 3U rackmountable server. 160 BM1382 chips are spread across 4 mining boards and
are cooled with 4x120mm fans. The S4 is standalone and does not require an external controller.

0b) What You Need (top)
You will need a few accessories to get started.

Click your flag to find everything you need to get started at Amazon!

1) Powering (top)
S4's come with a internal 1400W custom power supply. Please note that in order to start the unit, you must press and hold the push button on the back
of the power supply.

2) Cooling (top)
The S4 is self sufficient in cooling terms and utilises four 120mm unmarked PWM controlled fans which operate between 3500 and 4200rpm. All four are
automatically controlled by the software and react to increased temperatures. The fans spin at maximum RPM which is loud, but are loud due to
the shear volume of air displaced as opposed to annoying tones.

The rear of each hashing board is covered by a full cover aluminium heatsink, and the front by smaller curved finned heatsinks over the chips. Please be
careful when handling these heatsinks, they are extremely sharp.

3) Case (top)
The S4 is smaller than previous generations and is easy to lift and install. The aluminium case is held closed by 6 screws placed on the top for easy
access. Internally, the PSU's compartment is separated from the mining area and cables are neatly routed out of the way. Please be careful when
replacing the case lid, that you make sure the grill on the lid is aligned with the PSU, else the PSU will be suffocated and may overheat.

A shipped S4 weighs 16kg and the dimensions of the shipping box are 580 x 580 x 270mm. The unpacked unit measures 432mm x 442mm x 133mm.

4) Configuration (top)
The S4 is standalone and does not require an external controller.

Wiring:
  • Plug in a power cable from the AntMiner to the mains.
  • Plug in an ethernet cable from the AntMiner to you router.

Configuration:
  • Power on the power supply using its push button at the back.
  • Make sure that your router's subnet is 1, ie 192.168.1.x. If not then change it to 1, this is just temporary. ***If this is not possible, see below***
  • Using a browser, navigate to 192.168.1.99 - this goes to the S4's configuration page.
  • Login using "root" as both the username and password.
  • Navigate to Network -> Settings.
  • Change protocol to DHCP and click "Save & Apply".
  • Using a browser, navigate to your router and find the IP it has assigned the S4 and navigate to that IP. This IP will also be displayed on the LCD.
  • Navigate to the page Miner Configuration -> General Settings. Enter your pool information in the below format.
  • Select "Beeper ringing" to "false" and click "Save & Apply".
  • Navigate to the page "Miner Status" to check mining has started.
  • You can then change your router subnet back to whatever you are used to using.

Alternative Subnet Change:
  • Unplug your computer from all internet sources.
  • Plug in an ethernet cable from the AntMiner to your computer.
  • Navigate to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Centre -> Change Adapter Settings.
  • Right click on your ethernet adapter -> Properties.
  • Click on "Internet Protocol Version 4" and click properties.
  • Select "Use the following IP address" and enter the following:
  • IP Address: 192.168.1.1, Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway: 192.168.1.99.
  • Plug in an ethernet cable from the AntMiner to you router.
  • Restart the configuration instructions as above.

***There is currently a firmware issue that prevents the S4 achieving its full hash rate on pools with variable difficulty.
Until a new firmware is issued, its recommended that you use BTCGuild or GHash IO with 2048 difficulty manually set***

5) Troubleshooting (top)

ProblemSolution
Almost all "x" on one row of "Chips"- A hashing board may be mispowered or faulty. Recheck your cabling and PSU.
How do I change the login password?- Navigate to System -> Administration. Enter the current password and enter your new one twice.
What is the SSH login?- Username is "root", password is "admin".
Can I turn the beeping off when the miner stops mining?- Yes. Navigate to Miner configuration and turn "Beeper Ringing" to false.
I can connect to the AntMiner but its not hashing?- Set the protocol to DHCP via Navigate to Network -> Interfaces -> WAN -> Edit. If you
don't want to use DHCP, navigate to Network -> Settings and make sure "Gateway" is set to the
IP of your router.
What temperatures should I aim for?- Try and achieve <60 for best hash rates, and <70 for long lifetimes. Temperatures should not be
 let to rise above 80C.
Where can I get the latest firmware?- Download from Bitmain's site.
How can I tell what firmware version I have now?- Navigate to System -> Overview and look at "File System Version".
How do I install the latest firmware?- Download firmware as above. Navigate to System -> Upgrade and click "browse". Select the
downloaded file and click "Flash image". Do NOT interrupt this process or you will brick the unit.
How do I reset settings to default?- Once the unit has been on for a few minutes, use a paper clip to press the reset button for
5-10 seconds. It is located in the bottom left hole on the LCD. The miner will then reset with
stock settings.

Guys, take it down a notch in here. Josh, were you called back in to or are you going to rest up now?
Would Josh take it down a notch ? Why do you care about him so much all of a sudden ?

I don't, but this is my thread not another anti BFL thread.
4444  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Manufacturer Trustworthiness Guide [12th Sept] on: October 06, 2014, 12:33:08 PM
Dogie,

Now that your employer has started shipping the abomination that is the S4 with all it's failings, can we expect a realistic update on your guide?  Wink

Pictures processing now. I'll be back to the thread once its done - no point delaying doing both properly trying to do both at once.

.... No? The last time I updated prices was 4 days ago, so I account for mining revenue + adjust for market + bitcoin price. If all you're going to do is troll, don't post.

4448  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive BTCGarden AM V1 Setup [HD] on: October 05, 2014, 12:23:50 PM
Hi Everyone, I could really use some help.. I got my Bit Garden V2 about 6 days ago and I can't get it working. The RPI is hooked up right because I can get into the menus, The problem I think I'm having is my network setting. Can I get a pro to take a look at this picture and tell me what my settings should look like... PLEASE... Thank you very much

Set gateway to 192.168.1.200, and if that doesnt work then set the ip as well to 192.168.1.230. [you'll have to go to .1.230 to connect to the AMV1 again]
4449  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 3TH miners for immediate shipping [October price decrease] on: October 04, 2014, 07:17:12 PM
What a cheek it's like selling hardware that was free and charging VAT on top some people Smiley

1) its not free
2) VAT collection is a legal requirement. If you want to commit tax evasion thats up to you.
4450  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 3TH miners for immediate shipping [October price decrease] on: October 04, 2014, 11:33:38 AM
Dogie, your guides are great - but your prices are too high, especially for gear that was given to you for free to review - and your sales pitch sucks.

What's with the attitude? Is your new Bitmaintech job stressing you out already?

I asked before for someone to link to where they're buying in hand hardware at lower prices, and have yet to receive such information. The 'buyer' before wanted me to point my mining power at his account so he could 'verify' it worked, so he could then give me a self admitted low ball offer.
4451  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: October 04, 2014, 04:21:52 AM
Is there a Dogie's miner setup guide for the S4?

SoonTM. Had some other units that have been waiting a while to be published that I should have done first, so I've done most of those first. Quite busy tomorrow so might be Sunday now.
4452  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter Prisma (>=1.4 T/device, 0.75-0.78 W/G, <1 BTC/T, October Shipping) on: October 04, 2014, 04:06:12 AM
So this is really underclocked tube, nothing new in the unit ?

There are new things in the unit, if others want to believe it or not is another thing.
I was generalizing. Could be new design. I don't know enough. But the main driver for efficiency is more chips at lower load.

Its not.
Enlighten.

I already did several pages back and got shouted at by people who have no actual knowledge of this product.

You never were :/
4454  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 3TH miners for immediate shipping [October price decrease[ on: October 03, 2014, 10:00:28 PM
Dude, I just wanted to know if it works with p2pool before I buy it, as I can't get an answer anywhere else.......

But, as you wish. Good luck with your sale - and your new job, you'll need it... Wink

But I have no idea if anything is happening once I point it at your P2P node, because its your P2P node. Also you're not actually offering to buy it if works on p2p, you're saying its overpriced and if it works on p2p then you'll offer significantly lower than I'm asking.
4455  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive AMT 1.25TH Setup [HD] on: October 03, 2014, 07:35:11 PM
Looks to me to be just another Innosilicon ("Dragon") clone.

All A1 based miners will look very similar because there's only going to be one optimal way of designing things.
4456  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 3TH miners for immediate shipping [October price decrease[ on: October 03, 2014, 05:26:17 PM
They're not that good dogie, sorry. Having said that, point the XBTech at my p2pool node - if it works OK I might haggle out a price with you for it........ Wink

I'm not going to do that, sorry. If you want to link me to in hand hardware, including PSU and case at significantly lower then you're free to do so.

0a) What to Expect (top)
AMT's 1.25TH 4U miner is designed to be rackmounted and is based off Bitmine's CoinCraft A1 chip. 5 modules are controlled by a Raspberry Pi, allowing
the unit to be standalone. I was unable to achieve the rated 1.25TH speed on many different firmware versions, however I was unable to find the cause
of the missing speed. There are certainly enough chips and power to achieve 1.25TH, however every pool tested rejected the equivalent shares when
attempting to speed the unit up past ~1TH.

You will need a few accessories to get started.

1) Powering (top)
1.25Th's come with an internal OEM power supply. The unit is unmarked however its believed to be a 1300W model.

2) Cooling (top)
The three stock 120mm Nidec BetaV V34809-INT1F fans the 1.2T ships with are absolutely insane and will need to be replaced. They run at 5300 RPM and
are easily 85 dBA. I would recommend Corsair SP120 High Performance fans to replace them, which will work fine up to about a 35C ambient.

Each module has a full cover aluminium heatsink covering the back, and a smaller aluminium heatsink on the top of the chips.

3) Case (top)
The 1.25TH's case is rather substantial and is designed to be rack mounted. It features two substantial handles to help carry and get it into place and
there is plenty of ventilation to air airflow.

4) Configuration (top)
The 1.25TH is standalone and does not require an external controller.

Wiring:
  • Plug in an ethernet cable from the 1.25TH to you router.
  • Plug in the power cable from the 1.25TH to the mains.

Configuration:
  • Power on the power supply using its switch at the back.
  • Make sure that your router's subnet is 1, ie 192.168.1.x. If not then change it to 1, this is just temporary. ***If this is not possible, see below***
  • Using a browser, navigate to 192.168.1.100 - this goes to the 1.25TH's configuration page.
  • Login using "root" as both the username and password.
  • Navigate to "Settings".
  • Make sure the gateway IP is set to that of your router and click "Network Setting".
  • Enter your pool information in the below format.
  • Select "Beeper ringing" to "false" and click "Submit" twice.
  • Navigate to the page "Dashboard" to check mining has started.
  • You can then change your router subnet back to whatever you are used to using.

Alternative Subnet Change:
  • Unplug your computer from all internet sources.
  • Plug in an ethernet cable from the 1.25TH to your computer.

  • Plug in an ethernet cable from the 1.25TH to you router.
  • Restart the configuration instructions as above.

4459  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S3 Setup [HD] on: October 03, 2014, 03:47:14 PM
Is there a link to a newbie guide on how to get started once you've got the hardware up and running?  I've got a S3+ that's powered on and I've got a blockchain account.  Want to try Slush's pool, but don't know where to start from there.  S3+ is powered on and connected to the network.  I've logged into the settings and set the correct date and time and location but don't really know where to go from there on setting for hashing.  Any links or setup guides (after the hardware)?  Should I upgrade to the newest CGMiner 4.6.1?  Is so, how?  Thanks in advance.

Follow the instructions for this guide. When it gets to put in your miner details, register with one of the mining pools below (or with slushes if you really want). I've got the information you need to enter for those pools as a quick reference guide already there, so you might want to use those.

Sorry, but which "mining pools below"?  I don't see any, do you mean in the guide?  Thanks.

Yes, in the guide
