461  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dark Web Drug Dealer Indicted for Laundering $137 Million in Bitcoin From Prison on: August 24, 2021, 10:51:10 AM
The whole story might be fake, but I have watched some interviews on YouTube (it is on Russian, but you can switch on subs if you want) with Russian hackers (badb for example), that served sentence in US and they said it is possible to get a smartphone in fed prisons. It cost about $5k per phone. Especially it is easy if there are a lot of Italians in the prison, because they have their men everywhere and have a lot of money.
I have a strong believe, that if a prisoner have a lot of money, and with a current level of corruption, it is possible to get everything in cell.

Then there may be rare exceptions. Prison gangs are very active, even in federal prisons. And it is not just the Italians, but also the Latinos and East European gangs who are involved in this. For these gangs, it is easier to launder money, because they are trans-national, unlike the local gangs such as Aryan Circle or the Crips. And not all the federal prisons have the same level of security. For example, ADX Florence and USP Marion can't be equated to low-security prisons such as Marianna Federal Correctional Institution.

463  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UK 20% of the gambling venues are located at the poorest part of the country on: August 24, 2021, 10:24:41 AM
This is just another attempt to get gambling banned by the anti-gambling lobby. Sometimes I wonder why these lobby losers don't do a job for a living. The real reason is that it is always easier to set up casinos and gambling joints in the poor areas, as the rent is low and manpower is available in sufficient quantities. Casinos actually help the people in these areas, by providing them with direct and indirect employment. If we listen to the anti-gambling nutjobs, then these people will lose their jobs and will be forced to beg on the street. Perhaps that is exactly what they want.
464  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin fans have developed into a political force. Is this the dawn of victory? on: August 24, 2021, 10:12:35 AM
I think this idea is ironic. Bitcoin is decentralized, but you said that the forum should set up a centralized organization, or even a virtual country.

A truly democratic organization can never be centralized. Because centralized means only a limited number of people or entities taking all the decisions (federal government for example). What we are talking about is a decentralized lobbying group, which will be spread out across multiple countries. I will give you a recent example. In 2018, the financial secretary of India (Subhash Chandra Garg) came up with his stupid idea of jailing anyone having possession of cryptocurrency up to 10 years. The finance minister announced about implementing this plan in 2020, and the bill was listed in the parliament website in 2021. There was a huge campaign in social media campaigns such as Twitter against this bill, and finally the saner members of the government decided not to proceed with the bill in its present form.
465  Economy / Economics / Re: Only young and naive guy believe in high risk high return on: August 24, 2021, 09:58:04 AM
There is a wrong assumption being made by the OP. He feels that it is the young people who make mistakes for most part in the cryptocurrency sector. However, I have to say that the reality is very different. Look at various Ponzi schemes which involved cryptocurrency, such as OneCoin and PlusToken. Most of those who lost their money were middle-aged or elderly. I would say that OP should remove the "young" word from the title. Inexperienced users are more likely to make mistakes, and it doesn't matter whether they are young or old.
466  Economy / Economics / Re: Why don't banks work with cryptocurrency? on: August 24, 2021, 07:38:30 AM
and don't forget to rate the bank, because banks are under the control of the government, where we know the system between banks and bitcoin is contradictory so for now the government doesn't want to lose control, so many countries have created their own digital currency, but this system seems only camouflage of the country's real money

Well.. so many countries have come up with Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), but it needs to be seen how successful they will be. China was the first, and they introduced the e-CNY (digital Yuan) shitcoin. And immediately after that, they implemented a crackdown against Bitcoin in China. But these measures didn't resulted in any improvement in the acceptability level of e-CNY. The writing on the wall is clear. Whether they like it or not, CBDCs will be considered as a variant of fiat currency and they will not be able to replace genuine cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin.
467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a new blockchain that will compete with Ethereum? on: August 24, 2021, 07:25:06 AM
There is a few blockchain like Binance Smart Chain, Cardano, and Solana have a chance to compete Ethereum. But it will takes time, since Ethereum popularity is beyond those 3 blockchain. There's also AAVE and Monero, even though it an old blockchain.

Not many prefer Binance Smart Chain, because they believe that it is centralized (although I don't completely agree with that assumption). Cardano is a very formidable competitor to Ethereum and miles ahead as far as technology is concerned. And recently ADA prices have gone up by a lot, as the acceptability levels are rising steeply. Now coming to Monero, I have a feeling that it is a failed project. It attracted too much notoriety to be successful. And now even the promoters seems to have given up.
468  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 95% of cryptocurrencies are fraudulent on: August 24, 2021, 07:11:12 AM
How could I say you are wrong? You are of course right, but the problem is that you just don't always know for sure whether it is a good one or a bad one. Let's be honest though, that is the same in the stock market. Only a few got rich with Amazon, most of us didn't because we simply couldn't believe the book seller Bezos had in mind. So you either have some trouble with the team sometimes, or with the concept. If it's both I would skip immediately, if it is only one there is doubt coming up inside me but I still tend to give a project a chance from time to time.

LOL.. I would agree. I was in my early teens when Amazon went ahead with the IPO (1997). There were dozens of similar IPOs happening every month with NASDAQ, and no one paid any special attention to Amazon. And it should also be remembered that the vast majority of the IPOs returned a loss to the investor in the long term (i.e after the dot com bubble burst). So it was like a lottery. Similar to users investing in new cryptocurrency projects now. If you invest in 20-25 different project, one of them may provide you with 100x returns.
469  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: August 24, 2021, 07:00:44 AM
New variants keep appearing and this makes us have to be vigilant, always following health protocols is the best step, vaccination has not been effective in preventing the virus so WHO must immediately make an effective vaccine, I'm afraid the impact of a pandemic that is too long can create new problems, especially economic problems because at this time There are many companies that have gone bankrupt.

What are you talking about? It is not the responsibility of the WHO to create vaccines. Only the pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer and AstraZeneca can do that. What the WHO can do is to make sure that effective vaccines reach all the counties, so that there is no severe shortage of the medication. Companies in certain sectors (hotels, aviation, tourism.etc) have gone bankrupt, and there is not much we can do about it. Full economic recovery will occur only when the pandemic is contained. And unfortunately, that is at least 6-7 months away.
470  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Not everyone can be lucky when it comes to shitcoins on: August 24, 2021, 06:49:28 AM
Memecoin has a chance that will pump because of the hype or because of the trend and hype of the community but of course no one will be lucky to shitcoins try to look at the ANN section or bounty section you will see some useless projects who only seeks investors and then disappear or abandon the project afterwards while in memecoins they pump so much and when the hype is gone it will also dump too fast.

As things stand now, anyone can make a post in the ANN section, and there is no restriction based on your rank or activity. A lot of scammers have made use of this. Also, for posting the ANN thread or bounty campaign thread for a new project, you don't need to escrow any amount. The reason being given is that if such a requirement is being made, then genuine projects which are short of cash will find it difficult to go online. I disagree with this argument. If the promoters can't even make a deposit of $100 on their own, how they are planning to successfully manage projects with soft-caps of $50 million or $100 million?
471  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: August 24, 2021, 06:37:56 AM
I am not sure why are you so much confident that Pakistan will win this match? Pakistan is known for its inconsistency and if they performed well in the first innings does not mean they will perform well in the second one. They need to take wickets and WI needs to stay on the pitch. The last day of a test match is always entertaining.

LOL.. look at the opposition as well. Do you really think that the West Indies team is any better (especially in the test format)? Today is the fifth day of the match, and West Indies has already lost one wicket (Kieran Powell). At this point, Pakistan definitely has a higher chance of winning the match, especially given the stellar performance from Mohammad Abbas and Shaheen Shah Afridi earlier. It is a joke that West Indies is still allowed to play test matches. After the (forced) retirement of Shivnarine Chanderpaul, they are without the services of a quality test batsman.
472  Economy / Economics / Re: Enjoy comunism (III) rats eating dead people and people eating rats in NK on: August 24, 2021, 06:17:51 AM
Yes, that's why I said in a previous post, that in reality, many times what we call capitalism is actually social democracy, a mixture of free enterprise and individual initiative with regulations and redistribution. I find it very funny to hear people complaining about capitalism in countries where the public sector accounts for more than 50% of GDP, they have high taxes, public health care (which I am in favor of), etc.

Quite capitalist is a country like Singapore, but in general it is not the European countries.

As such, there are no pure capitalist countries in the world (maybe with the exception of a few island nations where there is no income tax). Even in countries like the United States, the marginal tax rates can be as high as 60%. The government is taking away money from successful people and then distributing a part of it among the unproductive population. Now this is what socialism does. The difference here is that the government is not taking away 100% as in the case with socialist countries, but only 20% to 60% depending on your income tax slab.

@Sithara007 indeed you’re right as two days ago UAE reported over 1000+ cases, but they’re equally vaccinating people a lot as shown by the live chart seen in the link below. Furthermore I asked my friend who lives there about the ground situation in UAE, and she confirmed that for now all looks good, but they’re hoping cases dip soon otherwise there may be trouble ahead.

Source:

https://covid19.ncema.gov.ae/en

It is strange. Their official site shows that they have administered 179.09 doses per 100 people, which is enough to vaccinate 90% of the population. If they are witnessing so many new cases (the total population of UAE is less than 10 million), then it means that at least some of the vaccines that they have used is ineffective. And that doesn't surprise me, as during the initial stages they were heavily using the Sinopharm vaccine. I am worried about the IPL and the T20 World Cup. If they impose lockdowns, then these tournaments may get postponed again.
474  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Olympics 2020/2021 : Discussion & Predictions on: August 24, 2021, 05:57:27 AM
We love the 100 meters specially in women, in the Olympics it was swept by the Jamaican ladies.

And weeks after the Olympics,  Elaine Thompson-Herah proved herself that her win in the Olympics is not a fluke as she won in the Nike Diamond League again with the same time of 10.54.

And also the same result in the 2nd and 3rd position, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson of Jamaica as well.

Jamaicans are no.1 as far as short distance running is concerned (for both the genders). And that's why it came as a huge surprise when an Italian won the gold medal (in men's race). Ironically none of the Jamaican athletes qualified for the final. I was hoping for a good performance from Yohan Blake, but he finished at #6 in the semi-finals. Anyway, Jamaican athletes completely dominated the women's race, by bagging all three medals. Elaine Thompson-Herah   won the Olympic gold medal with 10.61 seconds, and then Diamond League with 10.54s.
475  Economy / Economics / Re: Setelah 1 Tahun Virus Covid 19 on: August 23, 2021, 07:03:51 PM
In my opinion the discovery of a vaccine is not the end of covid-19, because some of the cases that I found in my place were when someone who had been vaccinated that person could still get covid-19, therefore we still have to comply with health protocols even though we have been vaccinated, I hope Covid-19 ends this year

As mentioned in many of the previous posts, this is one of the issues with vaccination. And we are already into the third quarter of this year. Do you really think that 2022 will be free from COVID? I don't think so. Countries such as Portugal and Israel have achieved greater than 80% vaccination rate. But even these countries are witnessing a sharp spike in new infections, especially those caused by the delta variant. With each passing day, I am getting more and more skeptical about 2022. I have a feeling that it is going to be as bad as 2021.
476  Economy / Economics / Re: Coinbase IPO was the largest IPO in 2021. 86 billion USD valuation on: August 23, 2021, 06:51:03 PM
Isn't the volume the most decisive number here? Which also correlates with the weekly visits as obviously. I would say Binance should in pure numbers be above and beyond Coinbase. Binance will now also get fully regulated. That might be the difference. But I am quite sure in terms of ROI Coinbase is nowhere near Binance.

Add: One factor might be that Coinbase has huge OTC trading volume that is not reflected on CMC.

Trade volumes are always manipulated. Binance has a large number of coins that are outside the top-100 list in their platform, and order books for these coins are distorted. The only accurate way to measure the trade volumes is to measure the withdrawals and deposits that are being made in fiat. And for trading volumes, I would like to compare specific pairs, like BTC/USD and ETH/USD. But the issue with Binance is that they only have BTC/USDT or BTC/BUSD pair instead of BTC/USD (same with Ethereum as well). I would give more weightage to the numbers from BTC/USD trade, to those from BTC/USDT. Because this can be very hard to manipulate.
477  Economy / Economics / Re: Enjoy comunism (III) rats eating dead people and people eating rats in NK on: August 23, 2021, 05:56:49 PM
That's myy point, it's because men will always be evil and men won't ever want another to be better or equal to them, humanity is built on competition, it helped us survived but it's also our deadlock, we won't advance real fast with our current mentality.

There is another way of looking in to it. There are almost 8 billion humans in this planet and even then all of them are unique in terms of skills, intelligence and technological knowhow. According to nature's rule, those with better skills should survive and the rest should perish. Humans have changed this equation and allowed everyone to survive. But history has taught us that whenever you disrupt nature's laws, the consequences would be severe. And that is the reason why socialist nations are some of the poorest in the world.
478  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: August 23, 2021, 05:45:05 PM
The matches are between Afghanistan and Pakistan which were to be played in Sri-lanka but now shifted to Pakistan. The venue (city) is not decided yet.
More details on cricinfo:-
https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/afghanistan-vs-pak-2021-afghanistan-pakistan-odis-moved-from-sri-lanka-to-pakistan-1274425

Sri Lanka is currently witnessing a huge spike in new cases of COVID 19, and therefore this was expected (the government there just announced a complete lockdown for 10 days, which may be extended further). At least compared to this, Pakistan seems to be faring much better. I don't know whether Afghanistan will be able to put up a good fight. The players are also impacted by the civil unrest and even the IPL stars are saying that they are worried about family members back home.
479  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: August 23, 2021, 05:35:12 PM
West Indies is adamant that they want to see results in this  match and now they are trailing by 179 runs and they lost 8 wickets for 123 runs and even though they might not follow on, i want Pakistan to come out and bat for an hour or two and put West Indies back to bat and we might see the result and another thrilling encounter between the two teams  Cheesy.

Mohammad Abbas and Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled really well and if they could continue like this in the second innings Pakistan will win the match.

LOL.. you seems to be still hopeful of a result. Maybe it is theoretically possible. Some 150 overs remain (I really doubt whether we will get that many, due to rain interruptions). So if they can get West Indies all out within the next 10 overs, then hopefully they will be leading by 150-160 runs. They can bat for another 30-35 overs and make 150 runs, and that would set the target at 300-320. So in the 4th innings, West Indies need to chase 300 plus target in 100 plus overs. But any further rain interruption will disrupt these calculations.
480  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dark Web Drug Dealer Indicted for Laundering $137 Million in Bitcoin From Prison on: August 23, 2021, 02:26:12 PM
Nothing weird about that situation. Xanaxman was only the conductor, and all the operations and crimes were performed by his accomplices. And it is not a secret that prisoners can buy phones or even smartphones. Sometimes the guards even sell them to them.
I think that he simply gave secret orders when someone visits him, and the crime was just added to his crime list. This is the same as Al Capone thugs robs someone and everyone talks that "it was done by Al Capone".

That may be possible in the third world nations, but definitely not in the United States. Xanaxman (Ryan Farace) is currently serving a 5-year sentence in one of the most secure federal prisons in the United States. If he was in some state or county prison, then I would have agreed that there was a minute chance of this happening. You have no idea about federal prisons, if you claim that prisoners can get smartphones inside their cells. From what I heard, his father laundered the coins for him.
