"Passionate" spammers would just put some more punctuation into the post, in order to flee the automatic reports... If you want to create a kind of automation to remove the average shitposts, you just can't publish the rules of that system, because farmers are also reading Meta (and also posting there with their alts  ) and they will just adapt their autospam system in the next second, not to waste their precious resources... Its not even required. :/ The automation is beyond useless. Sometimes, things are just stupid when automated. There is no permanent cure to this now, the whole point of automation would be useless. Cause even if the script or whatever is generated, and even if theymos agrees to it, and then those stupid shitposters get banned, and then what? If Bitcoin Talk introduced a shop, and one of the items for "sale" was the right to display a signature, then signatures could become a privilege that had to be earned through responsible posting. Credits could be removed for bad posting, and added automatically for responsible posts. Signature allowances could still be based on rank, and this would preserve the existing merit system.
Nah, we gucci. The sig spamming problem is eh. You can't really do anything unless the administration agrees with it, and takes action based on it. What you're suggesting is basically a de-merit system, and a new ranking add-on feature that will give members the incentive to use signatures. And the administration has already said no to that. It would probably take someone until next Christmas to even try to summarize all of what CH has written in the past week. There are so many inconsistencies and lies and outright rambling insane nonsense posts that I'm not sure such a task is even possible. It would be like a doctor sitting with a schizophrenic for 8 hours listening to word-salad and then trying to write up a report of what the patient's point was.
What I'm doing, and what I'm suggesting others do, is to leave the patient in the room by himself and then lock him in there. It's self-protection from a particularly infectious form of insanity.

I was away for a month so do forgive me if it started to drop off before, but I'm just looking at my reports, and seeing how many I'm actually getting compared to before I went away, and its no where near the amount, and this started to happen right around the price drop. That doesn't prove anything necessarily, because there was only a few users reporting by mass anyway. Just an observation I made.
Yeah no, even I have become quite inactive, IRL issues come first, so I have to pay heed to them more than anything else. So like reporters have only reduced? That's not surprising, seeing how things have been, I am surprised people are still here, remove the signatures and you'll have more chances of seeing crows than actual users. Honestly, there's literally no motivation whatsoever for the reporters here, everything seems dead to me, at least. Wonder if we would ever get to know something useful, from the forum's perspective, like knowing whatever happened to Slickage delivering the forum on time, which was supposedly 4 years ago. |

And your lack of understanding scenarios isn't helping either. Adding you into DT1 will result only in one thing: You going beyond desperate levels to remove salty spittoon and vod from DT, so your trust score looks better.

I remember hilariousandco saying that theymos gave him the list of top reporters in Bitcoin Discussion back in sometime around August and was also told that Krishanapramod was the leading reporter there. Soon after that, I even read somewhere that Krishanapramod's reports were getting lesser, not sure if it's still the same now. You could try asking hilariousandco for the list, but I don't see anything happening from that. Yeah that was an incomplete poll, I can tell you that. There were users like myself and I only had 100 reports and that's not enough experience to know which report is good or bad. |

There is a decrease in posting activity though, that seems to bring things down a notch recently.
Think this is expected with the recent price hits. Normally, we get the initial throwing the toys out of the pram, and loads of questions, and panic posts. Then that dies down when these users leave, because "Bitcoin is dead", and we are left with those who are truly into Bitcoin, and don't get too reactionary. It'll likely be a few quiet months, until there's some major event that influences the price again. Not really, the forum has comparatively become quiet even before the price plummeted, especially in regions like Reputation and Meta, people just have started to disappear, again. Gosh, I wish I was more active. We need to spice things up a little, bring some interest in people. Even the tinniest of things like having the Reporter Badges finally done, might sparkle something nice. We would like to know what is going on with the new forum as well, but that's too much to ask, for the price of it was like only a few million bucks and the deadline was due years ago. |

I'm thinking about freightjoe for example: Why are FUD-trolls allowed to open 4 topics on a day, meanwhile spamming the same FUD in many other topics? Why is this allowed on Bitcointalk? I mean, if you don't like Audi, you don't go to an Audi forum and open 4 topics about how much you dislike it per day, right? Why is it allowed to do that here? I can only think of a few reasons for doing this: someone is getting paid to do this (as part of a FUD campaign in the media from some "established parties" against crypto), or someone is trolling because he missed the boat and hopes to buy more cheaper, or just shorting Bitcoin. Whatever the reason is, I think it's toxic to this community. Each of his topics quickly grows to a few pages because of the generic signature spammers, so his FUD gets all the exposure he needs. So again, my question is: why is this allowed? I know this forum values freedom of speech, but can't his FUD be restricted to just one topic? Let it grow into a Spam Megathread instead of spamming several boards on a daily basis. This is the internet, you're bound to find people like this everywhere. I mean, trolling has become a new source of income for some people. You would be surprised, but he may actually be serious on his beliefs about bitcoin, and might even be insane enough to think that all of what he says is true. There are so many people who do that. But you can't really ban people like these because one, freedom of speech is "violated", and besides it takes seconds to create another account to come back. Winning a battle isn't equivalent to winning a war. Toxicitiy has taken over the internet. I guess I'd rather have toxicity than having no internet. |
