In a landmark ruling, the London High Court declares Craig Wright is not the creator of Bitcoin, ending a contentious legal battle with COPA.

That's so yesterday's news

Sigh

Breaking News:

Bitcoin is above $1000!

I always thought there was a potential this would happen so it does not surprise me in the slightest that it has happened and is now confirmed by this breaking news.

Please give me merit.
Thanks.

So, do you think that after the halving, if the value of BTC drops below 50k, we will see a sharp drop in difficulty? With many miners turning off their machines.

if we hit the ½ ing and drop to 50k it will be crushing to miners

Sorry, but now I don't understand what you mean by "½ ing". Can you clarify?
Thanks.

"1/2 ing" is the same as "Halving"

504  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 03, 2024, 03:00:36 AM
lots of ways to play it maybe just 20 minutes a block with same coins.

so
1/2 ing 2016 25.000 coins
1/2 ing 2024 12.500 coins
1/2 ing 2032  6.250 coins
1/2 ing 2040  3.125 coins

or 15 minutes per block

1/2 ing 2014 25
1/2 ing 2020 12.5
1/2 ing 2026  6.25
1/2 ing 2032  3.125

we will never know if the above would have been better or worse

I don’t know. I think I’d go with a quote from the Matrix on this one.

“No, what happened, happened and couldn't have happened any other way.”

I’m a believer that Bitcoin found lightning in a bottle (not literally, the lightning network sucks) and had the special sauce to make it. Any little change is easy to speculate as an improvement, but the odds of success were so low, anything happening different could’ve doomed Bitcoin completely.

yeah and the fact that lightning sucks helped shit coins and some pow algos.

If Btc was done in a more perfect way the overall gestalt may have been much less rich and diverse.

Agreed. However, I don’t think any of that has to do with block speed or rewards, but instead the limiting of Bitcoin’s blocksize in order to push a patented solution by a private company. If you ask me, Bitcoin lost its way when the New York Agreement wasn’t honored and instead we found ourselves on the side of a ‘GOTCHA’ scam which I don’t think anyone outside of Blockstream wanted to see. That moment showed that Bitcoin needs competitors. I also think it’s important that the people who were around for this double crossing never stop educating others about what took place. If a grownup were in charge they’d say we need to double the blocksize or rollback segwit to be fair. Instead we get endless altcoins and competing forks.

And one very competitive pow algo in scrypt.

Let's imagine that Satoshi decided that the max supply would be 42 million BTC - how much do you think that would affect the price today?

Bitcoin price is gradually increasing with halving i.e. as the supply is decreasing the price is going up with time. If we have max supply of 42 million then initial mining reward would be 100 Bitcoin followed by 50, 25 and 12.5. With 42 million max supply the reward would be 12.5 Bitcoin  per block at the moment, so there might be some delay in reaching current ATHs.

508  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2024 Diff thread happy New Years. on: April 02, 2024, 08:45:19 PM
I'm starting to think not much will leave, not anything really out of the ordinary will happen exactly then, and as per my usual predictions and my clean record of nailing it, I don't see more than 10%, 10 percent not in the whole two weeks adjustment 10% down in a month time since the halving.
Most big miners are on long contracts

There is no room for everyone post halving, think about it this way, if there was, everyone would have doubled their hashrate by now, simple logic, assume 625 miners and 6.25 BTC reward per block, if you say 625 miners will be happy with 6.25/2 rewards, it means 625*2 miners would be happy with 6.25, which we know isn't the case.

There won't be a 50% drop in hashrate that's for sure, but only 10% is not doable in my honest opinion, you need to keep in mind that there are many small folks involved, it isn't just those large U.S corps mining BTC, not to say that those are 100% safe either, so ya, BTC below 50k or not, I would say, prepare yourself for some firework.

I was wondering about this and it will be one of the things to pay attention to in order to learn a little something. I’m on the side of thinking we won’t see a large drop in hashrate just because people are reactive and may even have electricity deals they can’t immediately break as mentioned above. No doubt will growth slow for a while as older gear is replaced, but I think a 10% drop might be about the worst of it. I’d bet it doesn’t do more than 20%.

10-20% seems correct if we are in the 60-70k price range

we are at 10.28 cents a th.

lets pretend the network is 28 watts its higher but lets say 28 watts a th.

a 100 th machine now makes 10.28 a day pre power
at 1/2 ing it makes 5.24 a day

lets say with fans for cooling you use 72 kwatts per machine

10 cent = 7.20
  9 cent = 6.48
  8 cent = 5.76
  7 cent = 5.04
  6 cent = 4.32  a 72 cent profit.

so all s19's are knocked out except the pros and xp's at 7 cent number

the pros drop out at the 8 cent number

the xps drop out at the 10 cent number

So basically all 10 cent miners are done.

509  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New Project. A 1 board s19 110 pro. Make it a s19xp Some photos to follow on: April 02, 2024, 07:16:55 PM
I tried putting a miner like that (vertically on top of some grill like yours) at home and the result was poor, very noisy and not stellar cooling. So i built the DIY "black box" of mdf and put it inside, this lowered the noise to about 50db, but the most impressive change was the cooling, the fans spun down much more to keep it at the target, since i put a proper heatwall (made of the same MDF as the rest of the box) that only fits the two main miner FANS. The improvement in cooling was astounding.

Leaving the miner like that vertically on top of a grill with the rest open, was big no no, noisy and overheated.
Also, Power Target is more efficient than Hashrate Target in Braiins OS. Indeed mine is set to Power Target and the lowest setting. Before the box i had to disable a couple of hashboards to make it quiet, not anymore...

(top cover removed)

And you are running a full unit  at 3000 watts or 2600 watts or 2200 watts.

using 230 volts correct?

It is not relevant to this thread as this is about running under 1000 watts and 110/120 volts.

I realize I can make a different enclosure but I really am aiming for under 1000 watts with a psu that can run at 120 volts.

I did a braiins model in the 1 board case and it is good fairly quite and fairly efficient.

I really wanted to perfect a 1 board design. Under 1000 watts

516  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 01, 2024, 06:14:01 PM
Hello all.

I like this sideways action just below the ATH, it helps the moving averages going up, and isn't too stressful.

I know many here are from the US, and from many sources I'm reading about I get the impression the cost of living there, at least in big cities, is crazy. With people earning 100K$ saying they're poor, must live with parents etc. And women asked about the income of potential mates in the street saying below 200K or 300K they won't talk to you.

Yet I see the average salary in the US is 60K. And even looking at jobs offerings in the US, in my field where I make about that salary in France (estimated, because there are a lot of taxes and contributions between what my company pays and what I get at the other end...), I don't see offers that high, maybe 80K, with a lot of responsibilites, experience, a long list of tasks...

How do people get to earn 200K in a salaried job, are they all managers of big teams, or stars in their fields ? Sometimes I come across people on youtube earning crazy amounts while seeming to be very dumb (not talking about selling their bodies or being influencers either), it's a bit frustrating.

Okay a lot of couples in a major city each have a job. So you may see 200k getting tossed around as if it is one person while it is a couple.

A home in New York City is a million dollars . Not a great home just a standad type of home.

The home I grew up in is valued at 1.2 million.

If you buy it and rent one of the two parts of it. you get 3k in rent.

if you put 200k down the mortgage is 1 million. just the interest on that is 70k minus the rent of 36k and you owe 34k on just the interest. At least 16k to lower the mortage.

so 50 k from your joint 200k.  your taxes on that money 200k is around 60 k drops you to 140k pull the 50k for mortgage is 90k

so you are at 90k.. you and partner. both take subway to work about 3k

down to 87k. 2 cell phones are more than 1000 a year. down to 86k

you have to insure the house to have the mortgage. at least 4k down to 82k

no car occasionally uber and rental a thousand maybe two thousand.

down to 80k

So you are a pair of homebodies. Not many restaurants not much delivery. You cook a lot.

Food for two mostly cooked in home in NYC is close to 10k.

You are down to 70k

You have the net no cable no landline just the net maybe two streams you are at 1 k.

69k

you have good jobs one has good medical you pay partial say 6k for insurance with decent coverage.

you are down to 63k.

now at 63k a year it seems okay.  but there is property tax around 10k

53k.

No clothes allowance.  If you have professional jobs you will spend on clothes and shoes.  At least 5k a year.

brings us to 48k minus 7k power bill and gas for cooking and heat gives you 41k

seems like enough.

but I tossed out starbucks for two which could be 20 a day or 7k. many couples do this.

so the 41k is 34k

I tossed out uber eats and restaurants which would bump you from 10k to 20k easy

you would be down to 24k

I tossed out owning a car or leasing a car and the car insurance. say 8k for the lease and the insurance

down to 16k

And say you do cable and the streaming 2k more is 14k

So a couple earning 200k that is healthy with both working should be 14k to 40k plus left over

But house repair and maintenance is 2k

so the loose spenders have 12k extra
the careful spenders have 38k  extra.

What did I forget how bout vacations
what else the people above are healthy and no kids.

So 200k to buy a home that has rental income and 200k in paid jobs only works well with good health and no kids.

most two family homes in NYC is ‘safe’ neighborhoods are 1 million plus.
517  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Antminer T21 - 3 Phase - Don't Get Caught Out! on: April 01, 2024, 02:15:07 PM
Having recently ordered a batch of Antminer T21 190T, I have just learned that Antminer T21 are 3-phase.

I had absolutely no idea they are 3-phase, and at the time of ordering there was no info on Bitmain website so impossible to know. This is going to cause me a huge headache and will make them virtually impossible to sell when I replace them.

Nothing anybody can do, but I just wanted to warn others in the hope it may help someone else to avoid making the same mistake.

yeah I got 3 of them 1 is here and 2 on the way.

There is an adapter but it does cost bigly

not sure if it does 1 of them it may
https://www.phoenixphaseconverters.com/collections/phase-converter-transformer-packages/products/copy-of-5-hp-phase-converter-transformer-package-230v-single-phase-to-460v-3-phase

maybe does 2 of them certainly 1
https://www.phoenixphaseconverters.com/collections/phase-converter-transformer-packages/products/7-5hp-phase-converter-transformer-package-230v-single-phase-to-460v-3-phase

I may need this I can feed it 230 single phase  at 50 amps

https://www.phoenixphaseconverters.com/collections/phase-converter-transformer-packages/products/15hp-phase-converter-transformer-package-230v-single-phase-to-460v-3-phase

if I run the t21s at a low speed option the high end adapter may work.

or find a host.

All my farms are 3-phase, so it's not the end of the world... however it does mean I need to rewire, and can't distribute them in the way I wanted to. They will also be very difficult to re-sell when I upgrade

So far  I think I screwed myself bigly on this.

Too bad you are not USA based. I can’t find a host so far.

Also, how do you know it was bricked?

You said that the control board fails to get the IP or the unit is inaccessible so that's the reason why it makes me think that the control board might be bricked.

Any related software flashing if you flash it wrong it always ends up bricked like phones if you flash a corrupted firmware the phone might end up boot loop/bricked with no power.

There's something weird in your profile how did you get -68 merits?
