5061  Economy / Auctions / Advertise in Dogie's Comprehensive Guides [Round 5b] on: August 09, 2014, 10:56:41 PM
What is being auctioned? Why?
Non intrusive ad space in my setup guides is being publicly auctioned. I work for the community full time and am not funded by the community or any company. Donations have not exceeded $50 in total this year and so I have to find a way to keep the guides sustainable and FREE for the average consumer. Selling ad space is one such trial.

Ad Format

  • Leaderboard style (728x90 pixels), static images (jpg, jpeg, gif, png), non annoying colors
  • Totally unaffected by adblock.
  • Ads may not misrepresent, lie, be inappropriate, be (or link to) NSFW content.
  • I reserve the right to reject ads for other reasons or remove ads even after they have been accepted.

  • There are 5 ad slots for sale. One slot will be placed after sections 2, 4 and 6 in all the guides listed at the bottom of the post.
  • I will randomise which ad is placed in which slot on each guide so each slot receives the same impressions.
  • The ads last at least 10 days starting from when they are put up. Traffic is expected to be 25,000 impressions per slot over the period.
  • This traffic is exceptionally targeted to the hardware subforum, and more specifically to those who have either bought or are looking to buy miners.

Auction Format

- Auction will run for approximately 5 days, to end at midnight London time on Thursday 7th August / 3PM PDT Thursday 7th August / 6PM EDT Thursday 7th August.
- Post your bids in this thread. Prices must be stated in BTC per slot. You must state the max number of slots you want.
- The notation "2 @ 0.5" means 2 slots for BTC 0.5 each. Not 2 slots for 0.5 BTC total.
- The bidding starts at BTC 0.20.
- All bid prices must be evenly divisible by BTC 0.02.
- If two people bid at the same price, the person who bid first will have his slots filled first.

I reserve the right to reject bids, even days after the bid is made. In particular, bids from people with less than 15 activity points are likely to be rejected. I recommend not getting into a bidding war with someone who has less than 15 activity points, as their bids might not be accepted, but your latest bids will still stand. If you need to know right away whether someone's bids will be accepted, PM me.

You must pay for your slots within 24 hours of receiving the payment address. Otherwise your slots may be sold to someone else. I will send you the payment information via forum PM from this account ("dogie", user ID 87869). You might receive false payment information from scammers pretending to be me. They might even have somewhat similar usernames. Be careful.

if dogies opinion can be wrong and/or he could be paid off.

If its 'wrong', disagree with me. And I'm probably the last person you can pay off. I'm not saying there shouldn't be others doing the same, but the smaller the guide owner, the easier it is to pay them off.

Actually, datacenter cold aisle temperatures are typically between 20-27°C.

It would be only fair to quote hashrate and efficiency at these values, everything above 30°C might be bitcoin-mining specific, but not datacenter standard.

In a real data centre where you use AC yes, not in a bitcoin data centre where you use a metric shit tonne of air per second per cubic mm as your cubic method.

0a) What to Expect (top)
BitCrane's T-110 features two Golden Nonce ASICs within a really compact case, weighing in at just 9KG. A custom watercooling kit from CoolIT is used to
remove heat, while a custom 1100W PSU provides power. An internal Cubie is used as the controller.

0b) What You Need (top)
You will need a few accessories to get started.

Click your flag to find everything you need to get started at Amazon!

1) Powering (top)
T-110's come with a custom made 1100W PSU in a standard ATX package. If you wish to replace this, eight PCI-E 6 pin connectors will be required as well as
a power supply for the cubie controller board.

2) Cooling (top)
Each ASIC is cooling by a custom self contained CoolitIT ECO III-120FB 'BitCrane' watercooling loop - custom made for BitCrane. It features an upgraded
pump at 2900RPM compared with the older model at just 2300RPM to allow for greater flow rates. A copper base and aluminium radiator is combined with an
AV-12038M12B fan which sucks air into the unit through the radiator, and exhausts it through the side grill. The airflow pattern for the unit is rather unusual.

Noise levels are rather loud for a 1TH unit and may not be appropriate for living rooms, and as of now there does not appear to be any automatic or manual
fan control.

3) Case (top)
The T-110's case is one of the best I've seen and is extremely lightweight at just 9KG fully loaded. This is mostly due to the lack of required heatsinks,
allowing further weight savings throughout the case. The units are not designed to be rack mountable, but do stack on top of each other and lock together.
External dimensions of the case are 316 x 425 x 166mm.

4) Configuration (top)
The T-110 is standalone and does not require an external controller.

Wiring:
  • Plug in an ethernet cable from the T-110 to you router.
  • Plug in a power cable from the mains to the PSU. Power on the power supply using its switch at the back.

Configuration:
  • Power on the power supply using its switch at the back.
  • Make sure or your router's subnet is 1, ie 192.168.1.x. If not then change it to 1, this is just temporary. ***If this is not possible, see below***
  • Using a browser, navigate to 192.168.1.140 - this goes to the T-110's configuration page.
  • Make sure popup blocker is off on your browser while at your miner configuration page!!!
  • Enter your pool information in the below format. Click "Apply and Restart".
  • Change IP to an IP of your choice on the subnet of your choice. Set Gateway to the IP of your router. Click Save. You may then need to restart the miner.
  • You can then change your router subnet back to whatever you are used to using.

Alternative Subnet Change:
  • Unplug your computer from all internet sources.
  • Plug in an ethernet cable from the T-110 to your computer.
  • Navigate to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Centre -> Change Adapter Settings.
  • Right click on your ethernet adapter -> Properties.
  • Click on "Internet Protocol Version 4" and click properties.
  • Select "Use the following IP address" and enter the following:
  • IP Address: 192.168.1.1, Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway: 192.168.1.140.
  • Plug in an ethernet cable from the T-110 to you router.
  • Restart the configuration instructions as above.

5068  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive XBTec Pacific 1250 Setup [HD] on: August 09, 2014, 07:11:25 PM
Its worth noting that the high fan mode was just added for people wanting to OC
Well, how can it be overclocked? Does the error rate remains the same at any of that three pools or may vary from pool to pool?

Its got BFGminer on a known controller on a known chip, it won't be long before people give it a go. I test everything on BTCGuild, rarely GHIO if there is a problem. Pool variance isn't relevant in a hardware scenario.

Ah okay, so you are basically stress-testing the unit.
The quoted 45°C temperature might presume that you would use the 5000rpm fan mode though Wink

Are you planning on testing the overclockability tomorrow?

They've said they don't use it even in their 40C farm, and performance is absolutely fine.
5069  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive XBTec Pacific 1250 Setup [HD] on: August 09, 2014, 06:42:39 PM
Thank you, does that put the total error rate at 5.9% aka ~1176GH at the pool?

It would be very nice if we could get an update after 24h, to have a good average.

37°C also seems rather brutal (at 2500 fans that is), do you have access to hosting at a cooler facility?

No its post reject, so I'm getting 1.26 at the pool after 6 hours. I've lowered the difficulty to 512 which effectively doubles the run time of the test by reducing luck variance. The hardware isn't shifting at all.

I'm forcing the test cell hot because they quote operating range up to 45C, so its only fair to see what happens at that range. At 25C it was overperforming at 1.30. Its worth noting that the high fan mode was just added for people wanting to OC or who live in the centre of the sun etc, you don't actually need it. Its one of the significant advantages of the BE200 people didn't really notice.
5070  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: XBTec Announce. New ASIC manufacturer. on: August 09, 2014, 06:35:29 PM

Why don't you mention about H/W error rate? This can bring your estimated 1.30TH @ 1250W at the wall to a significant lower numbers. Also, 25Co is very uncommon for datacenters, you are looking more to 30Co, if you will like them to be hosted.

So, please provide stats for 30Co ambient, and real poolside accepted average hashrate.

Thank you.

I gave you a huge temperature range and showed that its impossible to call it because you can say "oh I meant at -20C ambient" or "actually, I meant 45C ambient like it says in their specs" and you get totally different results. Results from any one specific temperature are meaningless, its too close.

Hash rates are 'real poolside accepted average hashrate'.

And yes I did just use an image from teenmomtalk, deal with it sister.
5071  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive XBTec Pacific 1250 Setup [HD] on: August 09, 2014, 06:00:08 PM
Nice review and pics, Dogie.

Have you done any mid/long-term testing to find out the average hardware error rate / poolside performance?

Are you going to provide screenshots from the hashing unit or is the GUI still so ugly you would rather not have anyone see it?

I never take screenshots of software because they go out of date so quickly, and people tend to refer to them over the instructions and then get stuck. Error rate @ 37C ambient and normal fans is averaging 5.4% after 5 hours, 0.75% HW. Stats are taken directly from the BFGminer inbuilt so pool side is identical or above.
5072  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: XBTec Announce. New ASIC manufacturer. on: August 09, 2014, 04:29:30 PM
Right, I think we have to call the bet a no contest (draw). Depending on temperature conditions, I can make the unit do whatever outcome you want.

I can put it in 25C ambient and it will do 1.30TH @ 1250W at the wall.
I can put it in 37C ambient and it will do 1.23TH @ 1370W at the wall.
I can then put fans in turbo mode at any time and give it another 30W penalty.

tldr, it can achieve <1W/Gh, but it can also be made to go way above 1W/GH within its operating range. I don't think we're going to be able to conclude fairly on this one.

+1 Grin

PS: dogie i've been wondering, how many miners (and global hashrate) do you have running in your farm? could you share some pic of it as i am sure seing all time miners produced so far in one place should be quite amazing Smiley

Not much, I turn units over reasonably quickly so I always have capacity and flexibility to control ambient as required. I keep everything I test with me residentially as a lot of it (which you don't see) is preproduction which requires a lot of babying and is a bit too risky to leave unaccompanied.

hmm alright fair enough, but one day i sure hope you would open some sort of mining museum ^^

XBTec is jumping straight in at the deep end with a large 1.25TH unit of ASICMiner's generation 3 chips across 9 blades. Each blade plugs into a backpane
motherboard and sits upright within a 4U chassis. A Raspberry Pi is included internally as the controller. This is the V1 Pacific 1250, and a V2 is due very soon with a number of improvements built in.

0b) What You Need (top)
You will need a few accessories to get started.

Click your flag to find everything you need to get started at Amazon!

1) Powering (top)
Pacific 1250s come with a custom made 1600W PSU in an unusual formfactor, although they can be replaced with an external PSU. You will require 5 PCI-E
cables and a micro USB power cable for the included Raspberry Pi.

2) Cooling (top)
Three 120mm Fan-Cooling FD12038BD1 fans are used to drive air through the unit, and are manually controlled at two speed settings. Three red switches at
the back of the unit bump the fan speeds from 50% to 100% for high ambient applications. The rear of each module features a full cover, aluminium heatsink.

Noise levels are extremely reasonable at 50%, while 100% fans are loud. It should be noted that no consumer should ever need the 100% mode as it is
designed for farm use only.

3) Case (top)
The Pacific 1250's case is extremely thick steel and almost impervious to damage, although at the same time is very heavy. The case is designed to be rack
mountable in a 19" wide rack (482.6mm), or stacked vertically. External dimensions of the case are 550 x 430 x 176mm.

4) Configuration (top)
Configuration is relatively straight forward, although this is a very early alpha consumer build so some steps may change.

Wiring:
  • Plug in an ethernet cable from the Pacific 1250 to you router.
  • Plug in a power cable from the mains to the PSU. The unit will automatically power on.

Configuration:
  • Navigate to your router and find the list of devices.
  • Using a browser, navigate to the IP assigned to the Pacific 1250 by your router.
  • Login using "Pi" as the username and "raspberyy" as the password.
  • Navigate to "Pools", and click "Add New". Enter Your miner information in the below format click save.
  • Click "switch" to your new pool, and "remove" to any other default pool.

So, still nothing...

So do you get to collect on your best if Dogie tests the sample unit, and it's over 1w per GH/s on the Kill a watt reading?

Been awhile since I've heard anything, whether yours and Jimmothy wager on Xbtec power efficiency was resolved.

I'll let you know after a few more hours of running, but the bet may be too close to call.
