What they're trying to convey is that human activities greatly affects the rate of the cyclical change of the Earth's climate. CO2 may be beneficial to all living things, yes, but doesn't CO2 contributes to the Greenhouse Effect? If more and more CO2 are trapped in our atmosphere, the possibility is that the temperature of the planet may increase and result to a much faster ice meltdown, which may cause the ocean level to rise (not that much, though).

You are right CO2 emission may contribute to the Greenhouse Effect : "Greenhouse gases—including most diatomic gases with two different atoms (such as carbon monoxide, CO) and all gases with three or more atoms—are able to absorb and emit infrared radiation"

But "if an ideal thermally conductive blackbody were the same distance from the Sun as the Earth is, it would have a temperature of about 5.3 °C" so hopefully we have the Greenhouse effect

I don't see any evidence that a rise of a few degrees of the temperature will not be beneficial overall; a significant raise of the ocean level is not a reasonable consequence of a small rise in temperature

War can actually result in bitcoin supply coming down as well, with a lot of private keys getting lost...

Agreed. Who would think about their coins if their families are being slaughtered.

And their wallets gets rocketed. I wonder how many wallets wil gets lost because of people dieing from Ebola.

Instability and government oppression should show Bitcoin like a solution thus increasing adoption

When it has happened in the past it generally wipes out most life on Earth. No reason to think it will be different this time. Silly humans, always thinking the rules do not apply to them. Time to get schooled by mother nature.

Where did you heard this silliness? The most thriving periods of life on earth with the biggest variety of plant and animal species were those warm periods. According to the geologic records the average temperature was 10-15 degrees higher than today and the atmospheric CO2 content sometimes was as high as 4000 ppm. At the end of the Pliocene the CO2 level was the same as today the temperature as well, and that was the start of a cold period what was the coldest time since the Permian and caused the still ongoing quaternary extinction event what wiped out most of the megafauna from the Earth. (The man made Holocene extinction is an addition to that.) Some 20000 years ago this three million years long cold period have ended and now Earth warming up.

BTW that very very scary omg +200m not counting with all the water what will evaporate because of the higher temperature. Also not counting with that amount of water what will be consumed and stored by plants.

AHHHH finally someone sums it up well, almost copied paste your comment to the first post, everything is said clearly!

So what's the count in this thread on Realistic like you and me and Climate Deniers like those say the Earth warming up is bad? About 50/50

India still likes the gold

"Gold imports surged five-fold to $3.75 billion in September on account of the ongoing festive season. Gold imports stood at $682.5 million in the same month last year."

http://profit.ndtv.com/news/economy/article-gold-imports-zoom-to-3-75-billion-in-september-679542

India, China, Russia love their Gold and the Chinese economy is going very well; they are the first world economy in PPA
565  Economy / Speculation / Re: Analysis never ends on: October 15, 2014, 09:35:40 AM
...
This is pretty much what I was thinking and thats why I was surprised luc was saying we are going to 500. If we are going to 500 then we could be going much further quite quickly.

That's not possible. 500$ is a reasonable target for the peak of the first sub-wave of wave 1. After that there must be corrections.
I have some doubts that a price level of 450$ - 750$ is going to be sustainable for many months during wave 1 and corrective wave 2, we'll see.

You think the bottom is in too?

I have serious doubts.

I try to keep an open mind. Both bullish and bearish scenarios are still possible, but the latest developments favor the bullish one.
6 days ago I said that it will take 10 - 15 days until the market will decide a clear direction. It may take longer. Roll Eyes
If the bulls manage to conquer a high enough level and then defend a support level of 300+ when the corrections will come, then the bottom was 275.

It depends what you are looking for : are you waiting for the big wave? Buy now! Do you want to speculate on the short term price and you think it will go down again? Wait a little bit to buy

Thanks everyone that stood up for me. I, indeed, decided to go with ad's because I put a lot of work into this and getting something, anything back would be nice. Donations were a no-go (except when I said that I never got any donations, which was once), so yeah. It's the same thing Dogie does and I asked (and received permission) from BadBear.

Having advertisement is fine! It's your post!

We are still waiting for a big Bitcoin website that wants to flood the forum with its signature and pays well for 100-200 members Wink

569  Economy / Economics / Re: Solution to poverty - Socialism or Capitalism? on: October 14, 2014, 05:54:29 AM
You haven't lived in USSR or forgot how it was! It was horrible, communist is a failed system where humans pray on other humans
Bad argument! Many people can say that USSR's system was excellent, so it is just your personal opinion and not the fact!
In capitalism people pray on the money! Is it better?! Very doubtful!

To have a prosperous economy you have to follow a few rules : low regulation, price fixed freely by the market...

In USSR people loved their country and this passion led to a lot of good work being done but people didn't enjoy what a prosperous economy can get you : confort, security, ...

It is not a matter of opinion that millions of people were deported, killed or died from hunger, it is history : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_famine_of_1932%E2%80%9333

In a free society with a market based economy people can innovate, create wealth and jobs and improve their lives; you don't have to buy the products of any company, there is no coercion

Look at Africa to understand the failure of capitalism.

A lot of African countries are developing thanks to the market but communist ideas have made them lost a lot of time

571  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 13, 2014, 11:51:52 AM
If you sold at 800$ plus, bravo!

But saying there was no buying when you were at 1000$ + is not true, there was a buyer for each seller and nice volume, remember?

It didn't last but the price has been holding up most of 2014, maybe it is time to buy back in the market because the USD and western financial system collapses are around the corner
572  Economy / Economics / Re: Global Financial Crisis scenarios on: October 13, 2014, 11:48:07 AM
Hard to say which way bitcoin will go.

Remember, during the last crisis, even gold and oil went down quite a bit.

Gold has been going up during the years leading to the house crisis, what was a bit surprising to some was to see the USD going up as well

What do you mean by the USD going up - the USD index, i.e. dollar going up against other major currencies?

Yes

So, as long as USDX is not going down, treasuries are ok (i.e. the debt can keep on growing) as well as the U.S. economy, right?
Hypothetically. This could mean everyone is killing their currency faster than the USA.

However, countries with the exchange rate being lowered are now at an advantage. As they export goods, they can pay their employees more, and 80% of the time the purchasing power of the currency stays the same, unless something REALLY goes to crap.

If they start paying their employees more, that would cause inflation, and the purchasing power of the currency will not stay the same, especially if this process takes on (future expectations on inflation would invariably kick in).

If your currency is depreciating, you may export more nominally but what about in value?
If your currency is depreciating, the inputs you use to produce your product are going to increase in price (nominally) so you will have to increase your price
Your employees are going to need increased wages since the prices are going to go up in the country, if they don't, the fact that the currency depreciated is bad for the employees thus for most people
The prices of foreign goods will have gone up while, all else being equal, the price of domestically produced goods will stay the same. The result is that domestic goods will have an advantage over foreign goods

Prices of foreign goods will have gone up so it is bad for the consumers and for companies that need to buy a lot of foreign goods to produce their goods

The price of foreign goods will go up as well and even if they have an advantage over foreign goods domestic companies may sell more but will only get more nominally not in value or very marginally; they will need to increase their salaries to upset the higher cost of living and they will pay more taxes
When the price of goods made in other countries goes up, it makes the goods produced domestically more competitive so more domestic goods will be sold, helping the local economy.

-Do you read what I wrote? You will sell more but you will receive more in a devaluated currency so you may not receive more in VALUE

1/Let's say you used to sell 100USD and 100USD=100Euro
2/now you devaluate the USD and 100USD=80euros
3/ Yousell 120USD but 120USD=96EURO so you actually make less in value

-Companies will need to increase their salaries to upset the higher cost of living because of higher taxes and higher cost of raw material and importations

-Companies will pay more taxes

577  Economy / Speculation / Re: Scientist predicts world stock market collapse in 3 months on: October 13, 2014, 11:37:21 AM
Does anyone really truly know if the Bitcoin price is directly tied with the USD? What happens if the USD collapses completely?

Bitcoin had not lived any USD collapse yet, so noone cant tell you. It did not lived many other things either.

A USD collapse should be great for Bitcoin's price and the FED will not let the market go down or not help the government pay its liabilities, it will print like there is no tomorrow

Hmmm, Apple Pay ....!

Yummy Grin

This is why ApplePay is not a threat to Bitcoin. ApplePay does not solve the core problem with government issued currency:

Exactly it still uses the centralised currency which is printed at will
