561  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin Mining on an APPLE II Computer! Highly Impractical Other Devices? Poll! on: March 25, 2020, 10:47:49 PM
All my BTC HODL came from mining. My first machine investment has paid for all my dubious electric/dubious equipment/ and etc since 2013. KNC Jupiter BTC Miner arrived on September 18th, 2013 and made ONE BTC a day. Sometime that day I looked and BTC was $150 that day. I made 53 BTC on that unit and all my BTC empire since came from that ONLY $5,131.80 investment with shipping from Sweden. So at least I have a base price on all this that will be damn hard to go under, no matter what the BTC price of the BTC I have Smiley

I currently have a boat anchor of a Bitmain S9i that will take 14 years and 10 months to make ONE BTC. or after halving..29 years and 8 months! So as the above title says, the Bitmain s9i now falls under that above title of this thread of "highly impractical other devices" indeed! Sad

Anyone have any luck with getting an obelisk blake2b-sia to work with https://www.miningrigrentals.com/

I lose about 1/4 of the hash when I do such.

Also, any way to 'solo mine' siacoin-blake2b-sia?

thanks

Meanwhile, back in Bitcoinland we've just gone over $6.7k. That's up almost a grand from earlier today.

Is everyone so numbed by the last week and a half that nobody cares anymore?

I guess we have to hit $8k before anyone wakes up.

Well, what is it now by the time this is done? With the current USA debt and 2.5 trillion previous 'hole' from the 'dubious' tax cuts to the US corporations and the well off...we will be
at what? 7 Trillion in debt? If/when the economy of the USA and the world 'maybe' start to 'limp' back?
Well, if BTC/Crypto can't act as a store of value under those circumstances, indeed, it was all a dream indeed.
My bet is on HODL. Actually much easier now, where the hell else would I put any that I cashed out now? Under my mattress
(Ya makes the bets, ya takes 'yur' chances!) (tm: Popeye!)

Anyone have issues with my signature or anything else let me know, I think everything took ok Smiley

Legacy market limit down. Bitcoin likely to follow. #btfd Roll Eyes

The stock market has to hit 50% down IMHO and bounce for 'reality' to hit. People have a choice of HODL then or lose retirement chances as boomers...so they HODL.BTC may go more than 50% down. But with the inflation and Venezuela already closing banks etc...once the mindset of 50% hit on stock market registers..and all that $$$ printing and debt (what in the USA like 7 trillion with tax cuts by that time) BTC (if a store of value indeed) should come back faster than the stock market slow rise and recovery. Anyway, my premise..but what do I know? At one time I was a 'fanboy' for Butterfly Labs!

Anyway, my 'supposition' of what it will take for sh*t to get done and reality to settle before a recovery of 'everything' be it slow be it stocks/bonds/BTC/crypto or whatever.

Have to hit that 50% down stock ...temp thought I hope it to be... wall in stocks and bloody nose first..then after that will figure out how to build ramparts to scale it in the future...I
I'm hoping BTC/Crypto is the walkabout around vs going over that sucker of 'despair' in this likely at best really deep recession if not a mild (I damn well hope not) depression.

Sh*t got real..my view on HODL above and not panicking in the stock market either.....also have no debt and house paid off helps a lot!

(beware all of my advice..this is for internal delusional use only) Sad

568  Economy / Speculation / Re: Don't Panic Yet, Bitcoin Analysis. on: March 22, 2020, 04:34:49 PM

In my view, the BTC price will only 'stabilize' at whatever price that may be when the US Stock Market finally dumps to around 1/2 of its previous value before
this Pandemic crisis. At that point, IMHO, people will go 'what the hell' and simply have to HODL and bet on Capitalism and the economy recovering. To think
anything else right or wrong will be beyond their conception....thus that will be the HODL point for fiat. Of course a few more trillion $$ will be tossed in the
pot to stabilize this at that 1/2 way loss point. But this is how I see this all playing out as BTC worth via Fiat worth.
When/If above happens, then IMHO, BTC will start to act as a store of value...even if only sideways from whatever price it is when the above happens.

So it begins, Venezuela closing banks down. Bitcoin buying boosted. Link below.

You think Trump's printing money and such is silly, wait to you see the fly by night money printing and dubious actions by mostly
third world authoritarian regimes. This is gonna be bad for lots of folks. Sad

Yea! (starts cranking up the old bbs) (see my thread below installs 5 min to look it over ...bingo bango decentralized BBS's yet) Smiley

I'm not buying or at a  price that the OP would find insulting (in that we bought at the same price on Discord) various units at the same time and equiv/price.

572  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 20, 2020, 06:29:52 PM
Oh no... not 6400 sideways... not again...

I prefer this to 5400 and dropping...on the other hand...it comes to mind...18 million BTC out there....access to gold (person to person buys) in developing
countries are not too prudent, printing money in such countries and likely other 'dubious' and 'crooked' actions by individuals in governments of such places
Bitcoin may be literally a frigging 'godsend' as a way to minimize the above actions of the above. Limiting bank access. etc.
We will see but in my kool-aid Btc fanboy mine...BTC should act for something good in this pandemic, IMHO, besides moon under such circumstances as
(again, in my dubious fanboy mind) a legit store of value for the future in these dark economic and health times.

For me, every one of your posts has bizarre carriage returns or line feeds or something. Do you use lynx or some other pre-GUI tool to browse the WO?

575  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 17, 2020, 06:02:30 PM
Yes, it *has* been that bad ever since the '08 financial crisis: A complete zombie economy hanging by a string.
Eh, we're merely back to 2018 levels. It needs to fall a LOT more to hit 2008 values.
It's nice to remain optimistic but frankly all signs point to a financial and economical breakdown much harder than 2008. I remember 2008 well, and it will feel like heaven compared to 2020. I am not talking about anything related to Bitcoin but many will rush to withdraw fiat, I fear some banks will bankrupt in Europe.
Asia will probably suffer less compared to the West.

ditto on above

this whole pandemic clusterf*ck is going to accelerate corporate greed IMHO for more, home at work and no benefits surge....as 'temp' employees will gain a

A lot more % of the jobs in the coming recovery. Add 'robotics' to this/ self-driving cars/ scan and pay stores w/o checkouts..and the recovery.... well... people could find

may not be all that much of a real recovery in real $$$ with the inflation surge I see coming after this recovery to pay for Trump's corporation and wealthy

mass $$$ toss and of course the current crisis has to be paid for as well. This Pandemic may have just made things worse enough to even 'concentrate

more greed and evil' into an already, IMHO, corrupt and dysfunctional society, both in economic and political arenas. Consequences for past failures in both

economic priorities and government/social priorities are gonna be the new catchword for social/economic pain after the recovery. Power corrupts and Power

concentrates and this is like a 'ready-made' crisis to do both in both the political and economic realms. Hope I'm wrong, but as I get older, the 'gaming' of

whichever system above is less and less hidden and more and more transparent. Sad

I'm actually impressed as hell, that after today and such that we are at $8,100.00 USD BTC as I type this.

You must either be a future traveler or a traveller of the past, Searing.

Alternatively, you might need to refresh your page or reboot your computer.

Just for the record:  In the past three hours, BTC prices have largely bounced between $5,200 and $5,400....

There have been no significant or meaningful BTC price movements or spikes outside of that price range... so far.  Can ONLY wish.. maybe in a week or two, best case scenario, and a year or so, worser-case scenario (I won't mention the actual worst-case scenario, we already have enough depressing news in actual reality and also coming through the keyboards of certain doom and gloom bear-leaning BTC price prognosticators).

Trying to re-live my 'big balls' 2013 newbie past, when I dumped 1/4 of my take-home income on a KNC Jupiter BTC miner. Man the BTC/Crypto kool-aid was strong back then...

I'm probably gonna 'wimp' out but I'm trying! Damn, I was an 'impressive' newbie...I miss the stupid and dumb luck stuff I used to just do and be correct...and take it as a given...

ah..the BTC/Crypto 'cult' was strong in my heart then. Smiley

What do you mean by 'wimp' out?

I....verily...sometimes I have 'doubts' about my BTC/Crypto 'faith' ...Sad

We are all 'fiat' sinners! Sad  The lure of fast cars/McDonald's Menus/Rent...stuff that should have in the way back when of 2013 SHOULD have gone into BTC/Crytpo.

ie wimp out

578  Economy / Economics / Re: Interest rates to 0%, $700 billion in QE, and reserve requirements to 0% on: March 17, 2020, 04:44:01 AM
They've turned on the pump machine now. I just hope hyperinflation won't 'kill' too many people and a lot of countries don't turn into another Venezuela case.

This is why I hate fiat. When you can create money out of nothing, your current saving worth less and less.

If as the OP says in this thread above, if this, does NOT bring back BTC/Crypto as a 'store of value' when the less developed countries of the world lose

their sh*t on this even more so than the USA. Like in the past (2013) countries like Crypus banning withdrawals from banks and India limiting amounts.

Authoritarian countries' and the resulting heavy-handed leadership of such, are gonna lose their sh*t indeed! Mismanagement that will make Trump look like a leader!

er...that may be a step too far...but bad indeed, IMHO.

Let those countries start printing money and such and dealing with this. Again, this is where BTC/Crypto 'should' thrive as a useful tool for the

poor and disenfranchised that may need BTC/Crypto to even get basic needs (via their fiat/xfer to BTC/crypto asap) just as a tool to survive this mess worldwide.

BTC/Crypto historically could be shown, by its simple existence to have saved a lot of lives and with its use help a lot of people who without this option would (may have been)

completely screwed!

anyway, IMHO, not that it is worth much (at one time I was a fanboy for Butterfly Labs, so what do I know?)

Come on Bitcoin - you know what to do. It's your time to shine.

Actually, maybe we are seeing some decoupling of BTC/Crypto prices from the US Stock Market..or at least, IMHO, not as much as I dreaded! Smiley

Come on Bitcoin, you know the rule, if you are running from Bears you don't have to run faster than than the Bears, just the other guy, er 'stock market' Smiley

Futures are up ~4% not observing decoupling just yet

I am trying to 'reform' my image on WO and be 'hopeful' Smiley (I may have just tilted the Universe and made everything worse! Ack!)

Anyway, also I'd recommend watching a movie called 'Contagion' and a PBS show that is really good called "Alone in the Wilderness" if you have to cope like me.

Or hell everyone jumps on and revives their decade-old WOW account?

The old Chinese Curse comes to mind: May you live in 'interesting' times. Smiley

580  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 17, 2020, 04:10:10 AM
Something occured to me today watching bits of Trump:

I don't think he wants to be President anymore. It's no fun when tens of thousands of people may die because you're a stupid buffoon. And now that he can't shake hands, hold elaborate dinners, and instead is expected to deal with a meltdown it's not the job it used to be...

Interesting.

Great fun 'playing' President, not so much when you have to actually act like a President with real ideas and leadership...and of course 'consequences' ...like when he is out

of office and the investigations can resume. Smiley

We’re only down 0.63% in the last 24 hours.

Observing $5,300......

I'm actually impressed as hell, that after today and such that we are at $8,100.00 USD BTC as I type this.

I hope a bit of 'decoupling' is in the works between everything just falling because the stock market decides to lose its mind.

(to be fair Trump is in office, the Fed acted 3 days early from a meeting on a Sunday, hell, maybe the markets are exactly right..panic.panic.panic?)

damn, this is the start of a very weird year 2020 looks like this is gonna last more than a bit and well into such, it seems...Sad

edit:

As an aside, I find it very weird that I'm not more upset about the Trump mismanagement, the cuts in CDC and lack of preparation compared to even 5 years ago

of such a crisis, when at least the government had more resources deployed on this possibility and would 'game it out' sometimes with some seriousness.

But I find myself debating other issues like:  How long will local grocery stores deliver food and do I have enough? (told to stay in 65 years and live alone don't ya know)

How to make my meal preparation include Ramen noodles at LEAST every other day for a meal (ack! the horror ack!)

I should perhaps be happy about these 'real-world distractions' and find myself 'grateful' for BTC/Crypto HODL even if the value goes down 75%...even with that

and all this, and my traditional monthly income. I'm remarkably calm about all this stuff.

I'm in a 'hell' of a lot better position with this whole 'pandemic' thing then I otherwise would be, if I never into BTC/Crypto and used it to also used it to manage my

other financial interests and no DEBT and such and will at soc sec retirement, retire 3.3 years early! So best to be positive about this kinda thing and call it a win. I

would NOT want to have my direct care worker job in a group home now under these circumstances that is one thing about BTC/Crypto at least I retired 3.3 years

earlier than I planned. (I can still dump supplies off with the group home if they get that far down the list w/o risk exposure on grocery pickup if needed)

Reality: It is not just the President anymore, Trump clueless though he is, that is I'm having a bit of a 'wake-up call' to this whole clusterf*ck. Reality sometimes is too real! Sad

So, if in the USA, I'd take advantage of stocking up on free shopping and you pick up delivery and pay by line to 'add some spice' to your home confinement. (All the

perks of home arrest without the fashion-challenged ankle bracelet thingy) Smiley I suspect this will get big enough in a month that the perk of free off the shelf shopping using the

web and all you have to do is pickup will be gone in a month or so. Sad

Damn, I'm glad I have a kindle/inet and amazon prime! Smiley

Anyway, puts things in perspective on LOTS of things that is for sure.
