601  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Just another example of Martingale lose on: June 13, 2016, 07:04:52 AM
Martingale works, his bets were just too big for his bankroll. You need to have enough to take 10 losses at least before you win one.
You are half right.  He was betting far too big for his bank, so the inevitable big loss came quicker than should have been the case.

Even if he had bet small or had a massive bank, he would lose it all eventually. Martingale is just pushing the losses back, until eventually the odds catch up with you and you lose it all!
602  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Euro 2016 on: June 13, 2016, 06:57:38 AM
I like Spain today and for the whole tournament.  I have bet Spain -1.

The game of the day should, technically, be Belgium vs Italy.  I find that Belgium play pretty boring football though.  I also think that they are way overrated, so might have a bet on Italy ML.
603  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Looking for apologizes from those that wanted to change Bitcoin blocksize... on: June 13, 2016, 06:53:54 AM
Please all of you that lobbied and spread doom about the blocksize were are you now? So after having spread your malice and your attempt at destabilizing Bitcoin you are hiding now like wounded wild beasts... Shame on you... Or at least regain your lost dignity and come apologize...
I still think that with the current sized blocks, Bitcoin is massively limited by it's number of transactions per second.
I don't think the price rise really has anything to do with Bitcoin as a viable currency though, it is more like as a digital gold.

As a digital gold, I think the current blocksize is fine, for a currency it is not.
604  Economy / Speculation / Re: Quick Survey: When will you Sell your Bitcoin? on: June 13, 2016, 06:51:26 AM
My plan for quite a while has been that when 1 BTC can buy me 1 ounce of gold, I will sell a few of my bitcoins for gold.
That has looked crazily unrealistic for a while now, but in the last week I have started scouting good places to buy bullion with Bitcoin!

I won't sell them all unless it seems like a very clear bubble to me, like if it was $2500+ in the next week or 2, that would be a clear bubble and I would sell everything. If it rises slowly to $2500 over the next year or 2, I probably wouldn't.
605  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Where do you expect the Ethereum price to be by the end of December? on: June 13, 2016, 06:48:35 AM
Somewhere between 0.05 and 0.10 BTC
Regardless of Bitcoin price?
Given that Eth is generally bought with Bitcoin, they are obviously highly related, but 0.1BTC in your prediction could be $10 or $100 quite easily in December!

I think Ether's price will depend a lot on the DAO, and I don't really like it as an idea, so I can envisage a price dip.  That said, it should rise again given it's potential to be used by big banks and exchanges.

@Izanagi I hardly posted last week, but you have me down as posting 106 times!  I think I actually posted 6 times.
607  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC RALLEY TO THE MOON? !!!700$ REACHED!!! withing 5 Days 1000$ ? on: June 13, 2016, 06:42:11 AM
BTC going up for 1000$ within 5 Days?

We reached 700$ right now  Shocked w0000wsh  Roll Eyes
At the current rate of rise, $1000 could happen quite soon.  We will be in big time bubble mode if that happens though, and I will be seriously looking at offloading a few coins.
A 1:1 bitcoin for gold swap is my current goal, if that happens before the halving, that would be great Smiley

I wonder if the rise is just because of the halving, or if the economy is pushing the price up...
608  Economy / Speculation / Re: What do you do with your new wealth? on: June 13, 2016, 06:39:18 AM
How many BTCs do you guys have?
Want to know what you are considering "wealth"
2-10 Bitcoins is not wealthy!

2 Bitcoins is currently worth about $1400, you can't buy a decent road bike for that, let alone a car or a house!
10 bitcoins is a decent investment given the recent rise, but still doesn't make you wealthy.

For 2-10 Bitcoins to make you wealthy, I think the price would have to be $100k per bitcoin.
I am still enjoying the rise anyway.
609  Economy / Economics / Re: All this ICO Coins just before? on: June 13, 2016, 06:36:01 AM
Hello.

I was just thinking about all this ICOs Coins like Lisk Waves Rise etc.

Hm.. so funny that they all finished just before all this price going up and BTC halving...

14,000 BTC
30,000 BTC
and more was rised to this coins... Now they earn even +30%

For me it was not incident that all this happend just before.

and sorry but We can see that ex LISK is not this wat should be ( wat was in OP ) hm...

any opinions?
I think it is coinicidence, but I don't buy into ICOs anyway.
They seem like a socially acceptable premine, and one that has a very good chance to run away with your money,

I think waves even stated that the ICO was a donation scheme, which may be rewarded with Waves at the end
610  Economy / Economics / Re: I bought bitcoin when everyone was saying that the price is high to buy, and ... on: June 13, 2016, 06:33:41 AM
You timed it right to make a gain. It's hard to know which way it's going to go. It could go back down tomorrow and you would lose those gains unless you cash out. There's no way to know for sure.

Last year when the price was $200 or so was the right time to buy to make a gain. If you sell today, minus commissions, youl will have a small profit, but the price could also fall if you hold.
OP: It is good that you bought and that the price continues to rise, but your post is very self congratulatory, people are right, the price is high at the moment.  I won't be buying for a while at least.
611  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Muslims Prepare to Observe Holy Month of Ramadan on: June 08, 2016, 12:22:20 PM

Muslim clerics have in the past few years issued fatwas allowing Muslims in regions where the sun does not set in summer -- or, when Ramadan falls in winter, where the sun does not rise -- to follow the sunrise and sunset times of Mecca.

I hadn't thought about that, but it seems fair that they can eat at some point. Rather than being arbitrary they could standardize it to 16h of fasting, with 8h rest, or just say everyone follows Mecca's time.
I guess when the rules were made, they hadn't really considered the future generations living near the poles!
612  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum Mist Wallet for Windows on: June 08, 2016, 12:14:24 PM
I wish they would make a workable ETH wallet for windows.
I have run tens of wallets and never had a problem getting in sync, but my MIST or geth alone just will not catch up.

If I am lucky I will get 5000 blocks before it pauses and stops, sometimes I get less than 100.  I don't really want to sit all day re-opening my mist wallet to try to sync.  I am still about 200k blocks behind.
I have a couple of Ethers in my account, so don't want to delete and start  again with a fast sync.  Where do people store their Ether?
613  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Huge Lisk News on: June 08, 2016, 12:10:46 PM
Lisk just announced the addition of Charles Hoskinson & Steven Nerayoff as Senior Advisors to Lisk. Both played strong roles in the rise of Ethereum.

Hoskinson has been CEO of Ethereum, was deeply involved it its design and implementation, and is currently the CEO of Input Output HK, which hosts one of the largest cryptocurrency research divisions in the world.

Steven Nerayoff is an attorney, venture capitalist, and prolific entrepreneur. He has 20 patents, founded 6 companies including blockchain venture capital firm Maple Ventures, IoT/AI/Smart City company Cloudparc, and internet marketplace iOffer.

Both see huge potential in Lisk!

Max continues to surprise and his addition of seasoned industry professionals/intellectuals should bring confidence to Lisk investors that the sky truly is the limit for this project.

Getting people who used to be involved with ETH is hardly huge news.
Also if they are just senior advisors, then they probably get nothing or little out of it, so won't be offering much time to the project.

Good that you are excited though!
614  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Vitalik scamming live on camera on: June 05, 2016, 07:26:23 PM
they plan to change from PoW to PoS, that is why people say that it is a bad idea/scam.

I prefer the efficiency of PoS, but don't understand the technical side of it, so couldn't say if it is flawed or not.
615  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Whats with the trend and 18% plus LTC difficulty drop? on: June 03, 2016, 02:19:34 PM
But surely the fact that Eth mining difficulty is going us fast, could explain why LTC difficulty is falling.
LTC has also not been pumped and has actually got negative press recently, whilst the whole blockchain press has been going on (coinbase said it was a copy-me coin)

If you believe in LTC (I don't) then enjoy the easy mining!  I fear it will keep getting easier.
616  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: International Games Prediction Thread on: June 03, 2016, 02:14:15 PM
England are in good form winning their last 3 friendly matches but they never seem to handle the pressure at major tournaments. I think they'll get out of the group stage but flop in the 1/4 final.

The group phase is a joke, we are against Russia, Wales and Slovakia (I think), top 2 qualify, 3rd might qualify, hard to see us not getting out of the group!
The second round is just dependend on opposition, but I can imagine that we will get to the quarters, before meeting a France or Spain, then going out.

Quarters is about fair for England now I reckon. They are decent, sometimes good even, but I wouldn't back us against Spain, France or Germany.
617  Economy / Speculation / Re: Welcom... to the HAPPENING BUNKER on: June 03, 2016, 02:06:30 PM
Why not enjoy the fact that the price is rising and is currently higher than it has been for sometime, instead of talking rubbisg about how it will be $10k or $5k?

$550 is pretty good, I guess many of us here are in the black at $550, be happy!
618  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: International Games Prediction Thread on: June 02, 2016, 01:18:17 PM
England against Portugal. I think both teams will really want to win, but Ronaldo isn't playing, which is a big advantage for England tonight, even if it doesn't really help our chances in the Euros.
England should probably nick this one, maybe a late winner in a close game.

I expect that England will have less than 40% possession too!
619  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would you do if after a year bitcoin replaces all the world currencies? on: June 02, 2016, 06:39:01 AM
Well i mean the price would most probably rocket to the sky so in my opinion i would start buying as much bitcoins as possible when i would see that the price is going up really quickly

besides that i would tell about it to all my relatives in order for them to become rich too, and what would you do if that suddenly would start happening?

So your plan is to start buying when the price goes up really quickly?  And people wonder why there are bubbles!
It is more likely that the price will rise quickly, you will buy, then the price will fall and you will with you Bitcoins shouting about hodling!

Back to your idea: it would be a nightmare, bitcoin isn't made to be a world currency, it is too slow and limited. Security would be very difficult when 50mBTC is worth a lot of money, viruses and trojans etc would be everywhere trying to get into online wallets.
620  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Storing my seed in Lastpass on: June 01, 2016, 07:09:54 AM
If you are serious about security of your bitcoin your seed should never be displayed or typed on an online computer. Use a hardware wallet instead and write your seed on paper, store securely. If you use a hardware wallet that permits encryption of the seed with a passphrase you keep in your head you have an additional layer of protection. Using a PIN and simple passphrase on a Trezor provides very good security. Since the seed is worthless without the passphrase you can leave the seed with friends. Just do not forget your passphrase!

I am serious about security, but as this thread is showing, it really isn't as easy as it seems!  I don't want to have to remember anything, if I leave my Bitcoin untouched for a while, I will forget any decent password/phrase.
I quite like BitcoinSupremos idea, but then where do you store the 2 strong passwords?  I guess the chances of someone getting into lastpass, taking each of those passwords, and having access to my saved .rar file, is pretty remote.

I have read some trezor threads about them crashing/malfunctioning, I think I would go for a paper wallet before a trezor.
