621  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | Android App Released | on: January 11, 2015, 08:59:56 PM
Can someone remind me what the price was on the first day of the pre-sale? It seems like Koinify decided that since my wallet is empty now I can't view my transaction history.

Was is 0.00006666 per GEMZ?

The initial price was 17k Gems/1 BTC

Ok so 0.00005882. Thanks.

Can a fresh user that just received his first gem from a friend also send gemz without having BTC in his wallet ?

Right now no. The only way to send GEMZ within the app is "on-chain" counterparty transaction which requires btc fee.

In the future GEMZ will be settled offline to allow for speed, security and zero transaction fees. GEMZ will able to be withdrawn to any external counterparty wallet at anytime.

So, you are going to take the GEMZ in the Gems wallet off block chain and store it in a centralized server? How is that more secure? Sure, cheaper and faster yes.

The plan was actually to "bring Bitcoin to the mass".. gemz is just a reward for people who use the app so it doesn't matter if the end up on a centralized server..

The problem is that fresh users won't be able to send gems nor bitcoin since they have no btc to cover the fee (or any btc to send btc that is) and that is a big step backwards for the plan.

I'm not saying it's a bad way to go. As you say, that's the way most tip bots work.

I'm just saying, it's not "more secure", it centralizes the GEMZ on the Gems server in a db somewhere (or cluster) whatever, which is much less secure (hardware wise and trust wise) than the bitcoin blockchain.

You guys are pretty brave putting your couterwallet password into your GEMs wallet. I know I wouldn't do that. Just my 2 GEMZ.

It looks like gems wallet works like counterwallet.io, so the password is not leaving the device, should be pretty safe if you keep your phone encrypted and protected with password.

Sure, if you trust the gems wallet. At least with the counter party wallet I can audit the code and use traffic monitors to see what is sent to the server. I have no way to do that with the app. Perhaps once a third party audits the code I would feel a bit better. The problem still with a mobile app is I have no way to know the code in the repository is what was actually used to build the app submitted to the app store.

I'm just saying, be cautious. There is nothing wrong with having multiple wallets. Also, if you have a rooted phone you have to be extra careful.

We received a sending request of XXXXXXX.0 GEMZ to following address: 1PrtAAAAAAAccf5pQR2heSuw5BMNJJTKcg.

If this was not you, please reply 'NO' to cancel the request. If we do not hear from you within 24 hours, the sending request will be processed automatically.

How did you get past the 2FA pop-up when you submitted your request?

I pressed the SKIP button/link.

And you must have used a browser other than Internet Explorer! After banging my head on the proverbial wall with IE, everything went fine for my test withdrawal when I used Chrome.

Yep, Chrome is my primary browser.

We're loading our balances with more BTC to over tx fees (more withdrawal request than we expected!) expect them to be processed very soon.

If you have NOT confirmed via e-mail, please do so. We have quite a few requests with no confirmation 'YES' from the users.

Perhaps cause the email says... send NO if you didn't request this. It doesn't say send YES if you did.

I replied YES anyway.

Wouldn't it make sense to require a YES reply or no coin is sent?

That's how it is....you send NO if you did not request it, and you send YES if you did to be approved. It's to prevent hi-jacking of accounts, if your account gets compromised and a withdrawal request is submitted, you need to verify with your email as well. This makes it one step more diffuclut as the hi-jacker would now need access to your email account as well. We're checking now for everybody's template.

Um, not the way I read that it is currently, if you don't receive a reply after 24 hours you consider that a confirmation.

I feel that is backwards and no reply should be considered a denial. But, it is your service.

You are asking for a withdrawal request, koinify assumes you want to withdraw and give you 24 hours to confirm, if you don't want to withdraw then why would you request it in the first place?

Sigh. What if I didn't request it?

The point of the request is to CONFIRM that it was a valid request from the account holder.

If someone hacks into my konify account and requests withdrawal, they send an email and assume I will see it within 24 hours. I'm just saying, defaulting to assuming the person that owns the account will actually see it and reply no within 24 hours isn't the most secure confirmation method.
630  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: January 10, 2015, 10:55:47 PM
Is there any plan to simplify the wallet of NXT?
I mean the brain wallet need a very very long  passphrase which keep people away.

A randomly generated 15 char password will be plenty secure. I think someone put up a challenge to crack a 12 character NXT password somewhere with a big NXT reward. It hasn't been claimed yet afaik.

Bolded for emphasis.

Random is the key.

Totally!!! Thanks for clarification. Use Lastpass or 1Password or Keepass or https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm (take some 15 chars of the alpha numeric).   Once you have it, memorize it.

The reason for the 11 words, or whatever is that is is basically easier for people to remember a list of words than a string of random characters.

It did say to reply YES in the email I received.

Maybe they changed it, or they have different messages going out. This is what I received about an hour ago:

Hello,

Can someone help me on how to Minimize to System Tray the NXT NRS window that opens after running run.bat?

Cant figure it out.

Thanks,

Costas90

You can't unless that app has a feature to do that. I think the Wesley wallet has the feature. Or, you can set up the wallet to run as a service and it won't have any UI window.

What can I do if I don't have a android phone to withdraw? Hold them on Koinify?

Get a counterparty wallet.
637  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMS]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS |PRE-SALE LIVE NOW| on: January 05, 2015, 12:09:12 AM
I looked briefly at my Counterparty wallet connected to my GEMS wallet and saw there was an offline cold wallet store option in the menu.

Anyone have any experience they can share about this function?

Counterparty is nothing more than metadata in the Bitcoin blockchain. So you can send a counterparty asset to any bitcoin wallet, paper or otherwise. So, anything you read about a bitcoin paper wallet applies to a counter party paper wallet.

So how much were you guys paid to add paycoin's obviously fake market cap?

But, you're ok with ripples?

Congrats to the team on their release. As an iOS user I am a bit disappointed we didn't get to it first, but as an investor I am happy to see the release and hear all the good news.
640  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: December 31, 2014, 05:30:21 PM
It would certainly be nice if the NRS wallet displayed a message when you entered a password for an account with no public key.

"This is a new wallet (NXT id) with no transactions. If you are trying to access an existing wallet (NXT id) please log out and be sure to enter your password carefully without any extra spaces or characters."

Not sure if it should use "wallet" or "NXT id" or what. I think wallet would probably be more friendly, even if it isn't fully the correct term. Maybe "account" would work too.
