1121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [XCH] ★ ClearingHouse ★ Initialization Stage ★ on: August 12, 2014, 05:16:45 PM
Okay can someone please use retard speak to explain why I would want to invest my VIA into XCH rather than selling for a BTC profit?  How do I get money back out of XCH after the 45 day period?  What will VIA still be good for after the 45 Days?

XCH is needed to create colored coins in Clearinghouse. When XCH is used in this way it is burned so the number of XCH available will decrease. XCH will also be traded in clearing house, so you can trade them for Via (and probably other pairs as well).

Due to this it may be that XCH will be worth more Via than what you originally burned to acquire them.

XCH runs on the Via coin block chain, so Via is the underlying store of value and POW for XCH. So, Via will still have value and always at the least you will need 85 XCH to acquire 1 Via. XCH will "probably" trade on regular exchanges as well just XCP does.  So, Via/XCH has the same relationship as BTC/XCP does.

You might want to read about counterparty https://www.counterparty.co/about/ . The problem with counterparty is that the bitcoin devs are doing everything they can to stop this from working, since they consider it blockchain spam. Also, I think Clearinghouse, which it uses the counterparty protocol, has an advantage running on Via's blockchain due to the 24 second blocks, which makes all the CH trades run faster.

The main difference, which I'm not sure I love, is that the Via isn't actually being burned the way Bitcoin was to create counterparty.

BIP32 means it generates the same addresses every time. They have an index, so #1 will always be the same, address #2 will always be the same etc. It is therefor unnecessary to store private keys on the server.

Right, but where does it store how many PK's I have generated and the watch addresses I have added? If it isn't on the server I assume it is on the client, local storage perhaps?

Also, is anyone else getting invalid cert message on the clearwallet? I'm getting this in FireFox:

clearwallet.co uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

U wabnt more funding? 370,000$ not enough from community? ppls cant see u are stealing their money, lol

and u issue like 0.45 btc to logos n stuff. u spent maybe 2 out of 600 btc on via yet ahahahah

He also hired two other developers to work with him. I'm 99% sure they are getting paid.
1124  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [XCH] ★ ClearingHouse ★ Initialization Stage ★ on: August 12, 2014, 03:40:28 PM
So the converted via goes to development via wallet? Quite interesting and well planned out. If everyone converts their via to XCH demand goes up, via worth more hence mining via becomes more profitable for miners thus via gets even stronger than it is now.  But wondering after 45 days when the "fire-sale" is over and XCH supply becomes fixed, what can via be used for? Sorry if this was mentioned before, haven't been following news lately.

Thanks.

It's an asset class like any other coin, but specifically XCH is required to issue other tokens/assets within ClearingHouse.

Will XCH be traded on exchanges or only in Clearing House?
1125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [XCH] ★ ClearingHouse ★ Initialization Stage ★ on: August 12, 2014, 03:38:28 PM
hi dev

can we set a  Google Authenticator (2FA) for https://clearwallet.co/?

then it's more safety.

Clearwallet doesnt store any data. It's all using deterministic wallets - that's what the seed is. There is therefore nothing to secure against using 2FA.

Where does the clear wallet keep watch addresses and how many address you have generated? Is that info stored on the server?
1126  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [XCH] ★ ClearingHouse ★ Initialization Stage ★ on: August 12, 2014, 03:34:13 PM
OK, I obviously don't understand something here...

I saw at Clearwallet that I had the ability to "send" my recently acquired XCH to my VIA wallet. ...So, I sent 500 XCH to see what happened.

I guess I expected to see a separate entry in the wallet showing 500 XCH. Instead, the wallet converted the 500 XCH to just .0012 VIAcoin.

I certainly didn't expect this "send" feature to reduce the 5 VIAcoin worth of XCH (5 via = 500 XCH) down to .0012 VIAcoin. Pretty glad I didn't send ALL of my XCH to my wallet. (A 99.98% devaluation is pretty harsh.)

I will translate drak's dev speak for you.

Basically, your Via wallet doesn't know anything about XCH coins. Only the clearing house wallet does. So, if you add a watch to the clearwallet for your Via wallets address it will show your XCH in all their glory.
1127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: August 12, 2014, 03:27:16 PM
Also my poloniex address is still the old format. Can I withdraw to my wallet with the new address format?
The old numbers format are interchangeable with the new rs format

I can use the numbers forever, or they will eventually abolished?

They are still being recognized in the core, but it will not be supported for ever.

I'm pretty sure the dev's said the API will always support the numeric IDs. however, all the wallets and UI will only support RS going forward to minimize user data entry errors.

Hello guy

I have in my account Balance: 3000; unconfirmed: 3000; effective: 3000, i have wait 40 confirmation but always in unconfirmed why plz ?

Are you sure you are in the correct place? The live network hasn't been launched yet and there is no official wallets... only the test beta one that is running on testnet.

I just tried to cancel a sell order to adjust the price in the AE and says I need 1 NXT to do so? It costs me to adjust the @^#%#^ price of my asset?HuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuh?

Yes, cause it is a transaction on the block change that needs fees.

Send me your address and I'll send you some NXT for fees.

Update - launch postponed

After spending the last few hours analyzing the mainnet PoS behavior, we have still not identified the cause of the issue.

As Hybrid PoS is the heart of Crypti, we are need to be 100% certain it operates properly, before releasing the mainnet to the public.
Therefore, we will need additional testing time, which unfortunately means we will need to postpone the launch.

In order to provide an adequate time to re-test all the PoS scenarios again (this time on mainnet), the launch will be postponed to August 15th, at maximum. This means if we have resolved the PoS issue before then, we will launch the mainnet earlier, with a proper advance notice to the community.

In the meanwhile and in order to show the community the progress, we will make available tomorrow (August 12th) a public demo of the release web wallet.

I would like to state once again, that we here at Crypti team understand the amount of trust the community has placed into us, and apologize for the unplanned delay.
We are thankful to everyone for their patience and understanding, and looking to amend this situation as soon as possible.

Syrenity does respond eloquently. But man, I can't stop scratching that itch that's telling me they had SO much time to prepare and still managed to delay it somehow ; ;

Nothing finds the flaws in software like releasing it to production. Anyone in IT or development knows this.

I'd rather they got it right than fast. An extra week won't mean much in the long range. I'm HODLing for the future.

btcdrak,

I have an open sell order in the XCH/VIA pair on testnet, but the sell order doesn't show in the order book, nor is the one buy order that matches it being cleared.

Can someone send me some testnet Via? I used the faucet and converted it all to XCH not realizing you need some Via to pay the exchange fees.

EDIT: Got some, thanks to whomever it was.

"This initialization process is called "burning", but since viacoins are new and shiny, we decided not to actually burn them, but use them towards funding the ClearingHouse project looking forward."

So, it should not be called "burning"... It is another IPO, no?

I assume XCH won't be the last Clearinghouse asset to be created. So, the process will be called burning. A guess, but there it is.

You can use XCH to issue your own assets/coins etc and they can be traded directly on the blockchain, p2p.

I see. So, is the XCH limited to this initial burn period? What happens when you create an asset with XCH, is the XCH burned? If the XCH is burned and no more can be created then I assume it is considering a deflationary asset causing the value to rise.

The BTCD dev team is hiring for the GUI wallet Smiley

I am no coder, but if anyone reading is interested:

https://coinality.com/jobs/create-modified-version-of-the-btcd-bitcoindark-qt-wallet-elance-job/

Job Description

We need a modified version of the BTCD (Bitcoindark) qt-wallet. My friend James is working on a technology called “Teleport” that allows anonymous transactions that leave no trace in the blockchain.

The things that the GUI needs to do is:
1. Establish connection with a privacyServer (just needs IP, and NXT acct password)
2. Manage Telepods (You need to have a changepod and some unitpods, so requesting a changepod from faucet, creating unitpods)
3. Transporter function to teleport to specific destination
4. Publish public addresses so other people can do number 3 themselves. (I want to support having BTCD, NXT and BTC public addresses)
5. Display NXT address that is linked to a BTCD address (I will make it so that BTCD address’es privatekey is NXT password, so the two addresses are linked)

EDIT: I just found this on Elance.com

I have the job ad on odesk, elance and freelancer.com now, no luck so far. When there are no applications tomorrow we'll have to look at other places too.

I am interested in possibly working on this for you.

Are you talking about modifying existing wallet code, or are you talking about a whole new web based wallet that sort of reverse engineers the current one? That said, I am also only available part time.

That would be great, always better to work with someone from the community :-) The job is to modify the current btcd qt-wallet, like adding buttons or adding a place where the user can see his NXT-ID (see the list 1.-5.). The browser-wallet you propably mean is another job but we already have someone for it.

Cool. If you don't find someone else with more time on their hands, since I can mostly only work on it during weekends, then no worries. But, if you want me to take a crack at it feel free to PM me. However, it doesn't sound like a lot of work. (famous last words)

Guys, its best to just wait for the official FAQ @ the XCH ANN.

Should be coming up.

I found out about this from the blog before I saw it here. Wink I guess I expected all the info here to be fully hashed out.
1137  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [XCH] ★ ClearingHouse ★ Initialization Stage ★ on: August 11, 2014, 08:39:01 PM
I don't believe it's working 100%... keep getting sync errors and 404 errors.

Probably because we didn't hit the target block yet.
1138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [XCH] ★ ClearingHouse ★ Initialization Stage ★ on: August 11, 2014, 08:36:37 PM
I'm a bit confused as the the utility of the XCH coin?

I thought Clearinghouse was similar to the NXT AE... a way to trade coins other than Via on the Via blockchain. Perhaps I don't understand it fully.
1139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [XCH] ★ ClearingHouse ★ Initialization Stage ★ on: August 11, 2014, 08:34:35 PM
so you can only buy this with VIA? How to buy?

you can buy VIA with BTC at Bittrex (most volume) and a few other spots

Sorry I meant how to exchange VIA for XCH? I don't understand the burn process I guess..

You have to use the web based Clearwallet per the blog entry. I'm not sure what that info isn't in this thread. I expect it will be soon though.
1140  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [VIA] ★ Viacoin ★ ~ the future of digital currency ~ ★ on: August 11, 2014, 08:30:45 PM
So, when you say the VIA won't be burned, that means it will be in the hands of the dev again?

Is the clearinghouse wallet that you can use for VIA secure? Has it's code been audited? I still have my VIA in a paper wallet so would need to sweep it into the clearinghouse wallet to transfer some to XCH?

I have some trepidation over doing this, but I do want to convert some into XCH.
