561  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | iPhone Beta is Live | on: May 05, 2015, 03:29:11 PM
Hi,

I have recently purchased some GEMZ via BITtrex and would like to send them to my mobile (Android) wallet so that they are secure.

I have downloaded the app and set it up. (along with making multiple copies of my passphrase) However, the only way I can see to receive coins on the wallet is via a QR code. Is there a way to convert that QR code to a standard wallet address that I can C&P to BITtrex so I can sent those coins to my mobile wallet.

I have iOS but i can remember that it does have a standard wallet address aswell, i think you can copy your address by going to wallet, qr code, receive, then tap to copy. It copies the address.

Cheers. Sent a test of 1K coins to the mobile wallet and they have arrived. Took a while, but will now send the rest.

Thanks again.

Gems are actually more secure if you keep them on chain.

Having Gems in the app is pretty save, but it's not a like a safe deposit box to store your wealth in, it serves just like a regular wallet. I think the only way for your Gems to be stolen is if someone gets your phone and knows your pin code. Even if your phone gets stolen you can access your Gems through Counterwallet with the 12 word passphrase.

Storing Gems in your wallet is about as safe as storing them on an Exchange... since that is basically the infrastructure that GetGems is using. They have a database that keeps track of how many of the Gems that they hold with their private keys belong to you.

Storing them in your Counter Wallet where you have the keys, is more secure, since the attack surface is different.

Think of storing Gems in your GetGems wallet like the Coinbase or Circle wallet... they control the keys and the coins are as secure as that single parties security.

The MOST safe place to store Gems is a paper wallet.

I personally would treat the GetGems wallet the same way you treat your physical wallet. You keep a bit of money in it for day to day transactions, but the bulk of your money/savings is somewhere much more secure.

How do you recover a wallet? I don't see a place to enter the seed? For example, I reset my phone and want to enter my saved seed.

So, can someone tell me, if I send a message to someone knowing only their user name, do they only know my user name, or do they also get my phone number and real name? Is there a way to edit my user name?

Also, what is the difference between Secret Chat and just sending a message?

Does the bitcoin wallet generate a new address every time I receive some? Is there a way to manually generate a new address?

Finally, is there any documentation for the app? both How to Use and How it Works type info?

Just a quick question ,  when I check my balance using receive address for gems through blockscan,it doesn't show any balance why is that ?

Probably because the Gems wallet is off chain. When you send Gems to another Gems user, this doesn't happen on the block chain.

When someone sends Gems to you I expect they sweep the Gems into centrally managed wallets with both hot and cold storage.

My phone auto d/l's updates. When I rean gems it went through the setup again. I think it gave me a new wallet. I haven't written down the seed yet, but I did look different when I checked it after the update.

I had nothing in the wallet, so nbd, but this could be a problem if updates are going to spawn new wallets.

When I send a referral my friends just get a text that says "Hey, let's switch to GetGems %1$d"  Is anyone else getting this?  What am I doing wrong?  I'm using the new iOS app.

No, it is creating a TXT to send to the contact you selected. You just have to press SEND to send that message to that person so they will get your referal link.

I'm really glad to see the iOS version is live.

Sadly I cannot downloading without updating my iOS software...

Looks like I'll be stuck with the android version.

I really wish the app was compatible with older versions of iOS. There's no chance I'm updating and losing my jailbreak.

What version are you one? Can't you Jb all the way up to 8.1.2?
569  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BitcoinDark (BTCD)--Teleport/Telepathy/Ramchains/SuperNET Core on: April 28, 2015, 03:48:58 PM
Can I store BTCD anywhere besides in an exchange, in the BTCD wallet, and in the NXT blockchain via MGW?
A fourth place would be in a telepod and I will finally be able finish that when InstantDEX is in maintenance mode.

Is there no BTCD paper wallet generator?
570  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: April 27, 2015, 03:55:45 AM
Is there ever a need to re-backup an NXT wallet like there is with BTC and other wallets?

Which client are you using to access Nxt? The answer is different, depending on this.

It's NRS.
you need your password

write here your passphrase

Umm... what?
571  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: April 26, 2015, 03:32:05 AM
I am new to this. How long should the wallet password has to be at least? Is 50 chars enough?

It depends on the level on entropy. A randomly generated password of 12 or more characters is very strong.

What I suggest, get lastpass or 1password or keepass. Use diceware http://world.std.com/~reinhold/diceware.html to create a 7 word master password for whatever password software you chose.

Then, either generate a 15 or more character random password, set the tool to use upper/lower case, numerics and other characters. Or, let NRS generate a 12 word password and use that. Store it in your password manager.

Can we send gemz to any bitcoin address and later get them from the btc private key on counterwallet?

Yes.
573  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | AirDrop Beta is Live | on: April 24, 2015, 03:24:41 PM
I think it would be nice if the app informs users about the amount of transactions fees for both gems and btc. I'm sure many newbies will make on-chain transactions without knowing there is a fee. To be honest this happened to me i sent 1 gems to an address outside the app but i totally forgot about the fee. This should be made clear in the app.

The app continues to fail in sending. No one could know they have to copy and paste an address from the app. Give this app to the average 14 year old and they would throw it away in frustration after 30 seconds.

Don't you see the bold letters at the right saying "send gems" or "send btc"? When you click on it and you have not copied the address it says "No valid address was found in clipboard" so it lets you know you need to copy an address before you can send it which seems pretty clear even for a 14 year old. Also when you tap on the QR code the first time it shows you tooltips like "Scan QR code to send GEMS to an external address" and "Let others scan the QR code to get your GEMS address." So i don't see any issue with sending. Go to settings and select reset tutorial to see these tooltips.

Although it would be nice if an extra tooltip can be added about sending gems/btc from chat, this tooltip can pop up when you open a chat window for the first time.

So the things i would like to see is.

- Make the transaction fees clear for gems and btc within the app.

- Add extra tooltip about how to send gems/btc from within the chatbox.

You need BTC to send GEMS to an on-chain address right? Normal .001 miners fee? But off chain (to another GetGems wallet) there should be no fee to send GEMS.

i have a problem, i can't withdraw my gemz, how do i do that? i tried in poloniex.com and bter.com, i sent my gemz and both site received them, also tried to send it to my bitcoin wallet, without any succesful results counterwallet.io, as the developer mentions, only shows me the address for bitcoin, but not the address of gemz, so i can't send gemz to there, what do i need to do then? i mean, i have no problem sending the gemz, because it  discount from the app, but aren't received to the addresses that i sent them

We probably need more info to figure out what you are saying.

Withdraw from where to where?

You know, a bitcoin address IS a counter wallet address. However, you won't see GEMS in a bitcoin wallet. It has to be a counter party wallet.

If you sent GEMS to your bitcoin wallet did you get a transaction? You can add that address to your counterparty wallet and see any counterparty assests in it.

You could also put your address in the counterparty blockexplorer https://www.blockscan.com/ and it will show you any assets in that address as well.

well let's put it like this, i have gems in getgems messenger, i want to send them to any other wallet outside getgemz messenger app, where then i will be able to trade them, when i enter the secret phrase in counterwallet.io the only wallet from the app that is shown, is the bitcoin one, not the gemz one, and the balance is 0, plus it only says xcp and btc, not gemz.

P.S.: just noticed that i said that both sites recevied them i meant both sites did not recevied the gemz. i entered both btc and gemz addresses that getgems messenger says, in blockscan.com and says that have no balance, but getgems messenger shows me gemz

Ok, I'm pretty sure with the current version of the wallet the GEMZ are stored off chain... which means they won't show up in your counterwallet if you use the same seed/address as your GetGems wallet.

If you want to move them on chain, create a new address in your counter wallet and send it to that address. But, then they won't be in your getgems wallet.

A GetGems dev can probably confirm this... since I am only going by info that was posted her previously.

If I would have like 2k coins, how much BTCD could I stake per week or month? And do I need to split into smaller amounts to get the maximum stake rewards? The current PoS reward is still 5% right? Those additional Supernet revenues are not active yet ?

Questions questions ..  Grin
yes 5% per year so 2000 * 0.05 / 52 -> about 2 per week
if your connection is good, more stakes wont matter. the issue is on a bad connection you could easily lose out to another node the time you were all set to stake.

SuperNET revenues are not active yet, but InstantDEX should be the first one to start making revenues

James

Ok thanks for your reply. 2 BTCD per week is not alot lol. Ill wait for those additional revenues. Any eta for those yet?

Well 2k coins isnt a lot either, buy more coins for more staking reward  Cheesy

It once was worth alot  Cry

You only lose money if you sell for less than you bought, simple as that. Which direction is more likely for price after InstantDEX is launched? JUst hodl!

This isn't really true. It's not that simple. Let's say you buy stock in Yahoo.com at $100 per share. Now, Yahoo goes out of business, but you still have the stock. Have you lost money?

An "unrealized" loss, is still a loss.

Yes, a valid point, you lose money if the stock/coin etc you hold dies, but I don't think that applies to BTCD. People currently under water with BTCD can be scared into selling by fud and negativity. That's not good! BTCD isn't about to fold, so just hodl until you're in profit before you sell.

Right, and I wasn't saying BTCD was going to tank or fold, I just see that "you didn't lose money if you didn't sell" line a lot, and it always bothers me.

The biggest problem is, I would say 99% of the people in alts are speculating and day trading an not in it for a long time. As a matter of fact, I bet most folks the buy alts consider long term to be 1-3 months or maybe even shorter.

How else can I prove that I own the coins short of giving out my clearwallet password? Seriously, give me a method and I will do it.

Give the address which can be viewed in the block explorer and sign a message using the private key of that address. that is commonly how it is done.

Although, while there is a sign message option in clearwallet, I don't see a verify message function. I assume there is on in the QT wallet.

So, still haven't forged since switching to mofo.
Also, the server keeps showing this:

{"cause":"unknown","error":"Your peer is blacklisted"}, request was: {"shareAddress":true,"platform":"PC","protocol":1,"application":"FIMK","requestType":"getInfo","nxtversion":"1.4.13","version":"0.4.1"}, disconnecting

So, any ideas?

Havent forged a block or can 't start forging?
You can be forging while not yet having forged a block.

The error message you mention is harmless btw, the new code is just  a little more vocal about things that used to go unnoticed before.

It says it's forging. But, as I indicated above, the network block height and server block height get out of sync, and clicking on the server console usually causes it to catch up. So, it is hard to tell if it is a UI error or what.

Also, why does the Guaranteed and Unconfirmed balance show the same value. Should unconfirmed be anything with less than 1440 confirmations?

Anyway.. just reporting stuff that looks a bit off. It could be perfectly fine.
