642  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who says you can't be a millionaire in sports betting? on: December 20, 2023, 11:58:10 PM
That's a huge leap of faith with his sportsbetting skills. I'm willing to take risk with small amounts when the potential reward is high.

There's no problem with that but this requires so much luck that I think won't happen to me in my life time. Whoever is the one that shared that winnings, he's proud for sure.

But I hope that he'll take care of that money very well and won't let it back to the bookie so spend that money wisely.

According to OP, the stake was an equivalent of only $18, that's not a massive amount of money even in the Philippines, and pretty much any working person could afford it say once a month.
The winnings are also not life-changing (meaning he could not retire with that amount alone), so there's nothing wrong in putting some of it back and hoping for even bigger win. Especially if we consider that the guy was pretty skilled in analysing odds rather than relying on a pure luck.
643  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin create an opportunity to reduce poverty? on: December 20, 2023, 11:51:42 PM
This should be possible because Bitcoin as a payment solution also offers financial freedom. but this is how users respond to the development of bitcoin, whether they can adapt to its existence or stay away from it. I've even been helped a lot economically by Bitcoin, which means I can answer the question briefly. It's just that each person will respond differently and how they are treated, not only can some people be rich, they can even be poor here.

Freedom is great until you are forced to pay over £30 in transaction fee (as I was forced to do recently). As I said before, Bitcoin in it's current form is absolutely not suitable for any regular payments. It could (and does) work great as an investment or for large transfers, but it's just too expensive and unpredictable to be used as a means of payment by poor people in developing countries. Lightning network offers some solutions to that problem but it still has too many limitations.

I will also pass, it seems the giveaway is not that juicy and I am not really interested in it, what I want is to have an event this week, but because of the holiday season it is clear that we are having a hiatus at the moment, but it was clear this is to get subscription,

The prizes are OKish, but some of them, like an entry to a Power Slap, is something I'm completely not interested in and wouldn't go there even for free. Also, I think there will only be 12 winners and the giveaway is international, so chances of winning are so small, that giving up your email for potential spam is not worth it.

Looking at Islam Makhachev right now he looks huge clearly he is readying himself to get into the higher division, and that will be the Welterweight division but for sure as Belal Muhammad and Shavkat Rakhmonov are at the bottom and getting ready for their title shot I think Islam Makhachev is great in this division and maybe after that going down to reclaim the Featherweight to Alexander Volkanovski, for that triple belt,

Did Islam, or anyone from his team actually hint that he would be interested in moving up? It would make sense if he defeats everyone in the lightweight, he's allegedly one of the strongest (physically) fighters in his class and I don't think he would have any significant height/reach disadvantage, so why not? I like the idea.

People who dont like Tony Fergusson 7 lose streak, what will you say about this guy?
(...)
I guess Tony should fight him next to see whose losing streak is the strongest  Grin
645  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Local Base Or International Based Online Casino on: December 20, 2023, 09:22:02 AM
Thanks for sharing the story OP. I've never heard of e-sabong until now. I've done some reading on this and I'm shocked at how big it has become and how big the negative impact it had on the entire country.
For those interested, more details here: https://www.casino.org/blog/esabong-rise-and-fall/

As for the local or international question - it doesn't make much difference as long as both operate legally in your jurisdiction. But I prefer local ones, as it would be easier to take a legal action if something went wrong and you got mistreated by a casino.
646  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The risk and reward of having Bitcoin on: December 20, 2023, 12:04:00 AM
Bitcoin had huge volatility as compared to all the coin in the cryptocurrency market. This was the biggest reason for the bitcoin survival in the bitcoin over the decades in the market.

The opposite is true, Bitcoin is one of the least (if not the least) volatile cryptocurrencies in the market, excluding stablecoins that is. Generally speaking, the less trading volume - the more volatility.

The bitcoin wallet had huge secret security system like 2factor authentication which prevent one to access to your wallet in mobile phone.

There are many bitcoin wallets with different security features but wallets don't have much to do with the safety of the Bitcoin network.
647  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who should quit, and why? on: December 19, 2023, 11:52:06 PM
Obviously the wife has to quit gambling. The husband has the responsibility to provide money for the family (...)

100% agree

(...) so it is understandable that he goes into gambling to meet up with the family needs.

You lost me here. Big time. If a man resorts to gambling to provide for a family, he's neither a husband nor father material. With the exception of maybe professional poker players etc, but I consider that to be a skill game, not gambling.

Am still wondering how women who are into gambling tend to mix family responsibilities with gambling. After looking out for the kids, prepare meal for the family, do the dishes and make preparations for the next day. They still have time to gamble.

Most women not only don't gamble at all, but they have oftentimes an unreasonable aversion to gambling. But those who do would likely pick up some quick, online slot games, which you could play anytime on your phone, so doesn't require any massive time commitment.
648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin create an opportunity to reduce poverty? on: December 19, 2023, 11:42:36 PM
It been a big challenge in most country since the fuel subsidy and bad economy some country  are facing.A lot of people find it difficult to feed themselves and families, (...)

Short answer to the question in the topic: No.
Bitcoin, in its current form is simply too expensive to use as a means of payment, not only for people in developing countries, but even for those in developed ones. Currently, you need to pay >$10 for an average-sized Segwit transaction, but could be much more if your transaction is larger.
Bitcoin, at best, could be a way of preserving wealth and a tool to protect oneself from high inflation (much more common in poorer countries), but it doesn't work as an alternative for fiat money.

649  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 19, 2023, 11:29:05 PM
According to Nyfights.com, Tony Ferguson was paid $500k against Pimblett. I find this hard to believe though knowing he remained winless for years now. But if this is true then most likely it's the reason why Tony is not retiring until his contract expires.

$500k is not what it used to be, and it's not all that rosy if you consider he has to pay taxes on that as well as pay for his camp etc. At the end of the day, it's not win/lose statistics that sell fights, but the popularity of the fighters.
Like him or not, Tony was/is a big name and so is Paddy, both can sell fights better than many others from the top 15.

Dana though mentioned he loves to see Tony retiring. And it will be done unless Tony's contract is still not finished and the base pay might be too good to give up. If ever Tony is fighting again, I would like to see him against someone outside the rankings, someone winnable so he might consider retiring after a win. But in the financial aspect, if the base pay is too high and Tony won't agree to a lower rate it is hard to give him an easy opponent. But at least Dana is clear about not wanting to see Tony fight again.

I imagine the UFC only pays fighters for the fights, so even if Tony has an active contract, if they don't want him to fight - they could just let him go so he could fight elsewhere, if that's what he chooses. I don't think they would have a contractual obligation to organise another fight(s) for Tony (I could be wrong here), so they could mutually agree to terminate the contract.
650  Economy / Services / Re: 🚧[OPEN] [banned mixer] | Bitcoin Mixer | Signature Campaign ~ Up to $130/week on: December 19, 2023, 09:21:27 AM
Yeah I believe we still have another week after this one because it will exactly end in December 31 in which we can fulfil our weekly obligation before the forum completely banned the adds in January 1 , of we missed something ?

But you need to remove signature (and avatar) before 1 Jan, otherwise you risk getting banned, so the campaign cannot run for the whole week, as it's not feasible for everyone to remove signatures precisely at midnight of 31st.

@julerz12 - can you confirm when this campaign ends?
651  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which type of gambling have more gambling addicts ? on: December 18, 2023, 10:18:08 PM
It's the games in the traditional casinos that are more addicting because a player has more interaction with real people. You could talk to fellow gamblers who can eventually become your friends. I think it's the interaction with people that makes gamblers come back and you get to share experiences on table games.

The online casino games will be the second since you are offered unlimited rewards, and you can win big up to the jackpot especially the slot. But even in offline casinos, the slot is already addictive.

Sure, traditional casinos are designed to be all flashy, entertaining and to keep people playing for as long as possible, but online gambling is even worse, but the virtue of people having unrestricted access 24/7 even when they're lying in their beds.
You could lose a lot of money in one session in a physical casino, but you won't be going there every day and it's easier to keep track of your losses, whereas online gambling is more about losing smaller amounts but much more often, so people might not even realise how much money they are losing there.

What type of gambling is the most addictive?
The type of gambling considered the most addictive has traditionally been slot machines. However, with the rise of internet gambling sites, online gaming has become one of the most addictive contendors. Internet gambling is easier to hide from friends and family as you don’t even need to leave the home in order to gamble.

Slot machines have earned the nickname of the “crack cocaine” of gambling. They are played very fast, with some performing up to 500 spins an hour. This can lead to huge losses in a very short space of time. For some people, this becomes an endless cycle of chasing the losses. They end up playing the machines for hours at a time, with complete disregard for the world outside the slot machine.

This trance-like state is “dark flow”. You may have heard of artists getting  into a “flow” –the idea is usually associated positively with creative activities, where people get so engrossed in the activity that they no longer notice what’s going on around them. However, dark flow is a risk that players with gambling related pathology are far more likely to encounter. They may emerge from their dark flow state having lost all of their money, and then face intense negative emotions such as guilt and panic.

Thankfully, gambling addiction is treatable.

As much as I believe in equal rights, gambling does not suit a woman to be honest, and like I always have said here and will continue to say, I will not marry a woman who gambles, even if I myself gambles, and even if we are already married before I discovered that she gambles, she will have to stop it immediately or I just assume she not ready for marriage.

Not a big fan of equal rights myself, but that's all true. Luckily, women tend to be much more risk-averse than men (men gamble around twice as much as women), so they are far less likely to fall victim to a gambling addiction.
There are also differences in the preferred types of gambling between the genders. Men favor more skilled games (poker, sports betting and alike) while women lean towards pure luck games (like bingo, slots, or lotteries).
653  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 18, 2023, 09:50:57 PM
If Tony Ferguson would not allow his resignation I think Dana White should arrange some farewell fight for a legend like Ferguson, as surely Tony Ferguson saved a lot of events in the UFC and it was thanks to him if he doesn't accept those short notice fights back then for the UFC, so I think UFC is really grateful for a Tony Ferguson but the Situation is something different and for sure a Tony Ferguson just needed some explaining and convincing first and if that doesn't ring something on Ferguson then I think the UFC needs to drop the bombs on him that the UFC is not needing him anymore, or offering him a large amount for good,

Dana can only arrange a farewell fight only if Tony agrees to retire. Otherwise it would be just another fight. No one can force Tony to retire other than himself though and I don't think he's ready to do that.
If he decides to carry on fighting, UFC has two options: release him from his contract and let him go to a different organisation, or just make him fight lower-ranked fighters for much less money. The first option should be much more profitable for Tony, as he could still capitalise on his fame, despite all the losses.
654  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gamblers trickily claims they wins the bet while they never did. on: December 18, 2023, 06:19:04 PM
What sense does it make to claim that one actually won their bet when they never did? Such a gambler is only deceiving themselves and no one else.

In terms of admitting the overall, long-term loss made - they'd be mostly lying to themselves to delay admitting they may have a problem and should do something about that. But lying about winning a specific bet is probably only about trying to get some admiration from other people. I think there are many people who are able to get a real serotonin boost from a completely made-up stories, as long as others believe them to be true.

Payment was well received.
There is only 1 week left to move to the new forum.
Yes, and you can post your application in advance.  Wink
https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?topic=313387.0

Thanks for moving this campaign to ALTT. Already teleported there.

So if this is the last week here and the campaign on ALTT starts 1st Jan, this means there will be a gap week (commencing 25th), correct?

If anybody here has any experience in using ALTT and has any tips/advice, that would be great (links to useful threads, what to avoid etc).
I've heard the posting quality there can be pretty bad, but maybe we could make it a little better.
656  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 18, 2023, 04:14:48 PM
It's funny how Ferguson isn't the fighter he was around 4 - 5 years ago but the fans can't seem to stop talking about him.  It's prolly why the UFC likes keeping him around because he's still a good draw who could help sell PPV's.  Think about it...  Why would a guy with a 6 fight losing streak still get a spot in a PPV in one of the hest cards of the year?  He wouldn't be there if he didn't make it better.

I think it might have been his last fight in the UFC. I'm sure they would be happy to arrange an official "good-bye" fight, but I don't think Tony would ever acknowledge that it's time to retire, so he probably will be looking to go to a different organisation, and many would gladly take him on.
Anyhow, Dana publicly said he thinks Tony should retire, and that's saying a lot.

And speaking of Pimblett, the guy should leave his camp for a better camp to improve.  His physical attributes are there and you know he could be a better fighter but I feel like his camp isn't gonna be the one to get his best out of him.

I think every fighter should try a new environment(s) sometime. Making a change just for the sake of it could work wonders. He doesn't even have to quit his current gym, he could use it for his everyday training and move to a more professional camp for fight preparations, that's what some fighters do.

I'm so glad to see movie review sites not being paid off by Hollywood anymore to write gushing reviews of terrible movies, and finally getting back to writing brutally honest critical reviews of terrible movies.

Is the Hollywood still not dead? I haven't watched any of their garbage in years, but apparently there's still some demand for this impotent "art".
It's all just a matter of (short) time till the movie-making business gets completely replaced with AI.
659  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would it be enough to buy 100 dollars worth of Bitcoin every month? on: December 16, 2023, 11:08:37 PM
Yes recently I have considered that because the fees are now unreasonable seeing that the mempool has touched 524 sat/vB at this time, can imagine for those of us who invest relatively small and then withdraw it then this is not worth it, now I have considered that and hold first on the centralized exchange until the fee conditions return to normal.

It's a good suggestion to store assets in a non-custodial wallet but at least we are now storing more assets there, it's just that now in an emergency given the situation that the mempool continues to rise, it's better that the option should be considered, and believe that the exchange will not experience problems in the near future.

Exactly, moving small amounts to/from non-custodial wallets with fees that high is just a good way of crippling your holdings. Some central exchanges are regulated and insured and also there are other popular financial apps that allow purchasing BTC (e.g. Revolut), which are considered relatively safe - so if I was someone who is only into crypto for the hope of short-to-mid-term financial gain, I wouldn't bother with own wallets at all.

And, if the reason for insanely high fees is ordinals, then it's not guaranteed that the problem will get resolved anytime soon. This is really not a good time to promote any actual usage of Bitcoin...
660  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gamblers trickily claims they wins the bet while they never did. on: December 16, 2023, 10:56:04 PM
Don't be deceived, not every gamblers who actually claims that they won really won.
Some falsefully speculates that they won just because they want to pave an ease to those who has been advising them to quit or limits gambling simply because the gambler has been unlucky to win instead he keep betting over and over without a good bankroll management in their gambling carriers.
They basically do this because they feels disturbed and inconveniences of the people's opinions and advices towards the gamblers unprofitable gambling experiences

I think oftentimes it's worse than that. Many gamblers not only try to fool others but also fool themselves thinking they're doing much better than they actually do.
It's not hard to get caught in chasing fo a dopamine rush to the point that the grip on reality is distorted.
If you ask any active gambler how are they doing, the most common response is they're in a break-even position. Some of them know this is not true and they'd lie about that deliberately (to make themselves look better), but many just don't keep any record of their profits/losses and get deluded about their performance.
