6501  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S1 Setup on: March 02, 2014, 02:55:07 PM
I'm having a bit of an odd problem.  I have setup 11 of them without any issue but I have one that is giving me all kinds of problems.  It connects to the factory default pool fine but when I try to connect it to my pools it won't connect to any of them.  If I leave a factory pool as pool 0 and fill mine in at pool 1 and 2 it says 1 and 2 are dead.  I have all of my other miners mining just fine on those pools so I don't believe they're down.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Check the LAN/WAN connection settings, something might be freaky there. Could also be an IP conflict.

The new fan is blowing 3x the warm air out.
Its like a little heater.
Yep, basically 100% of the electricity ends up as heat—a real heater these miners. That is the main reason I will not be adding another cube.

What is the ambient temperate in the room the Cube is in?
I bet the hippies hate us so much Cheesy We just turn perfectly good electricity into waste heat just so we can attribute our virtual currencies to particular parties.
6505  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Avalon Avalon2 Setup + Silencer Mod on: March 02, 2014, 03:03:46 AM
As always very good guide. Unfortunately as of today these are a bit over priced, delivering around 300GHs at 1020W for 4.5BTC. 180GHs Ants at 360W are only 1.37BTC now.
There will very likely be a price drop on these units, but yes, its mainly the chips that aren't competitive.

Dogie, for example is a fly by night seller of used hardware out of his dorm room.  Any mining he does is because he is stuck with over-priced crap he couldn't pawn off on an unsuspecting victim.  And he is a paragon of integrity when compared to many of the other suppliers and retailers of ASICs.  Everyone lies, especially about schedule, and once they have your money you will NEVER hear from them again.

^_^ I knew there was a reason you were on my ignore list. I haven't advertised anything significant for 6 months, and everything ever sold was sold at market price? Notsurewhatyouweretryingtogetat.

Just using you as a bad example.

If I was on your ignore list you wouldn't have wasted my time responding.
Ok. But I saw it in the post of the guy below you quoting. Maybe you spammed in a manufacturer thread or something.

Hello all.

I've posted my setup guide for Avalon2 units and modules, including a cooling mod. I also have a proposed one for gen 1 Avalons which I'll write up [after I've finished dying of this flu], if there's any demand.

0) What to Expect (top)
The Canaan Creative team have continued to focus on keeping their design modular, and as such their mining units can be arranged into larger units.
Each Avalon 2 units can be run at 100GH and consume ~350W or combined in a 2U rack mountable case that includes a PSU. A external controller is
required for both full systems and individual modules. You can use a modified WR703N router like in gen 1 Avalons or a Raspberry Pi.

0b) What You Need (top)
You will need a few accessories and a power supply to get started. I recommend buying the controller directly from Avalon as they will preflash it with the
correct firmware.

Click your flag to find everything you need to get started at Amazon!

1) Powering (top)
Full units come with two Delta Electronics DPS-500YB-F PSUs that provide a combined 1KW of continuous power at extremely high efficiency. Only one
mains power cable is required as the PSUs are internally bridged. Replacement PSUs combined require 2x24pin ATX, 2x4pin ATX, 2x8 pin PCI-E connectors
and can be purchased here. Individual modules require a typical computer PSU with 1x24 pin ATX, 1x8 pin ATX, 1x8 pin PCI-E connectors.

2a) Cooling (top)
Both the full units and individual modules are cooled using the same fan layout. Each module has its own 80mm Delta GFB0812SHG fan that sucks air
through the sealed heatsink and across the back of the module. These are premium high pressure, expensive fans that utilise two independent rotors.
Cooling is power efficient but noisy and designed with data centres in mind.

At stock, the fan runs at 90% and temperatures reach 53C. Documentation suggests that this sensor temperature should not be allowed to run for long
periods of time above 60C. Dropping the fan to 80% immediately puts us up to 59C. I've tested a mod below to allow individual modules to run silently,
while providing more cooling than the original system. The trades are that it prevents the module fitting in a 2U case, increases the space required and
removes the one directional airflow. At 90%, noise levels are similar to generation 1 Avalons while at around 40-45%, the fan becomes essentially inaudible.

2b) Cooling mod (optional) (top)
Remove the heatsink shroud by removing two small screws. Place 3x 120mm fans, mid range rpm on a fan controller, blowing into the heatsink. Ambient
remained at 25C and test results are provided below. A fan speed of 45% is recommended as we get maximum cooling with the fan remaining silent. You
will need a fan controller and 3x120mm PWM controllable fans per module to perform the mod.

3) Case (top)
Avalon2 cases are designed to be 2U rackmountable, or stackable. Individual modules are well protected although the interface PCBs are exposed.

4a) Configuration (TL-WR703N) (top)
The same configuration steps are required for both the full unit and individual modules.

Wiring:
  • Plug in a usb cable from the Avalon2/module to the WR703N.
  • Plug in a network cable from the WR703N to your router, and power it on.

Configuration:
  • Power on the power supply using its switch at the back.
  • Make sure or your router's subnet is 0, ie 192.168.0.x. If not then change it to 0, this is just temporary. ***If this is not possible, see below***
  • Using a browser, navigate to 192.168.0.100 - this goes to the WR703N's configuration page.
  • Login using "root" as the username.
  • Navigate to Network -> Interfaces -> WAN -> Edit.
  • Change protocol to DHCP and click "Save & Apply".
  • Using a browser, navigate to your router and find the IP it has assigned the WR703N and navigate to that IP.

5) Troubleshooting

ProblemSolution
What temperatures should I aim for?- Try to achieve <60C for long lifetimes. Temperatures should not be let to rise above 65C.
How can I tell what firmware version I have now?- Navigate to System -> Cgminer API Log and look at "Firmware Version".
Where.can.I.find.the.latest.firmware.for.the.WR703N?- Download the latest firmware from here (the WR703N.bin).
Where.can.I.find.the.latest.firmware.for.the.Pi?- Download the latest firmware from here (the sdcard-vfat-ext4.img).
How do I install the latest firmware?- Download firmware as above. Navigate to System -> Upgrade and click "browse". Select the
downloaded file and click "Flash image". Do NOT interrupt this process or you will brick the unit.

6512  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup on: March 01, 2014, 01:01:47 AM
Thanks! No, it's definitely not a power issue, I had it hooked up to a AX1200 and a AX1200i. I'll test that out this weekend.

Unfortunately the 'better' PSUs have overload protection that will be triggered by a cube. It sucks I know, my 1500W is crying in the corner because its relegated to powering gen 1 Avalons.
6513  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Manufacturer Trustworthiness Guide on: February 28, 2014, 10:39:15 AM
Hi Dogie,

As to the refunds being ignored I have no information on that, can you say how many people have reported that to you and out of that number how many have shown you evidence of their order? I only ask because the company is plagued by Trolls some of who have previously lied about having orders, having machines, having refunds refused etc.

Regards,
minerpart

I can attest to my refund requests to being ignored by VMC for the past 10 weeks.

I still haven't got my refund and they are now ignoring my requests. All 40 of them.

Kenneth slaughter has now resorted to removing all my posts and others in the official thread because we're all asking him what' he's going to do about the refunds. If you call this trolling then so be it. It doesn't remove him from the fact that he's effectively taken my money and will not give it back. Either he is committing a massive fraud or is genuinely an idiot. Both of which should not be tolerated.

I suggest demotion further down the list for VMC. If the time comes when I get my check in my hand and the check clears my bank then I will happily state so in here.

If you have any proof that you actually have an order, you can PM me it, or let me log into your store account.

6516  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Antminer U2 on: February 27, 2014, 10:52:08 PM
Beside the heatsink they look like the u1. can not see any improvement.

They will be overclock able out of the box- no need for changing any resistors.

The U1's are overclockable too....
Do you mean to say the voltages...etc... will be easily changeable via software? That would be fucking awesome!

As far as I have been told- yup.

As the listing says: "Default hash rate: 1.6 GH/s, over clock by command"
nothing different then it was other then big ass heat sink
Its there for a reason Wink
6517  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S1 Setup on: February 27, 2014, 10:33:07 PM
I am new to mining and ordered 2 units and like to know if I could run both units with one power supply, looks like some people here are using it with one PS but no details on how to do it, which PS should I get and would it have enough connectors for 2 units.

Would appreciate any input.

Its very hard to power two from one power supply, as you'll need a huge unit like this: http://goo.gl/NwGTyW
It actually is more economical, flexible and generally easier to use a PSU per unit. Most people use these, so flexible, strong yet cheap: http://goo.gl/BSzTte
6518  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Power Supply Analysis on: February 27, 2014, 07:05:23 PM
Guaranteed to be right at one point in time.

You're taking this all way, way, way too seriously.

Its not about calculating average prices lol, its about updating 6 different values and 2+ links in the table, per line, per update cycle. its not viable.
6519  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Power Supply Analysis on: February 27, 2014, 01:36:22 PM
Laptop crashed while typing a reply on every point so going to tldr. Let me know if anything needs clarification.

The list isn't exhaustive, things will keep being added to it. The dell one will go on the list when I work out how I want to format two links being required. Also you can't get them from a reliable source, new, for $10.

I was referring to links that don't get updated, they become misinformed and misrepresentations. For example if links are posted outside of the OP, in 4 months they STILL read "x power supply for $y", even though that psu could be 5x more, 5x less, not sold at that site, at all or recalled due to being dangerous. The OP will be updated so doesn't suffer from that problem.

Spot pricing is required as that's what people buy at. Average pricing just guarantees that the price is going to be wrong at every point a purchase is made. It will be closeish, but it will be wrong. A spot price is guaranteed to be right, potentially for the whole period before another update is done. Again, people buy from spot prices not trend data.

Will update the link when home.

Still working on a way to confirm cube compatibility. Its a niche product, and all of these PSUs will work for the other 95% of ASIC hardware. I don't think it would be appropriate to kill a PSU off the list entirely due to overload protection. That should be an additional feature/criteria, not a requirement.

Do remember that each additional piece of variable data you add, increases the time taken to update the list. Ie we only have about 40 PSUs at the moment. If that ends up at 100, thats 2.5x as long.

Then if you add average and hi low pricing, as well as 2 store links, thats a further 5x information that requires updating. There becomes a point where its not viable to run with so much variable data because people will buy or not regardless of $5 variations of what we've listed the price at.
6520  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Blade Setup on: February 27, 2014, 12:47:25 PM

I can't confirm that is the issue but the fuse is shown in red in this picture.

You can find replacement fuses at any auto parts supply store, Walmart, etc.

Bring the old fuse with you when you go.

Thank you. I should have mentioned that I have a ASICMiner Blade V2. It doesn't have a fuse like that. Instead of connecting it to the Backplane with the Blade heat sink facing the power supply, I did the opposite. The blade heat sink was pointing away from the PSU.

I wish it had one like that.
That is true, there is no fuse on V2s so they're susceptible to damage. Potentially could be raised from the dead by an experienced electronic heavy member, but I can't help you there.
