Monero-RU now at Medium  Cool

Sweet!  Once you finish with the Intro/FAQ/How-To/Wiki things, I have some suggestions.

-MRL papers

-if you are comfortable with speaking, dub (otherwise transcribe) into Russian fluffypony's best speeches (esp. Tone's Dash scam interview  Cheesy)

-prioritize and start endless task of translating StackExchange Q/A

-same was above for endless task of translating Stickied and Top /r/monero posts

Looking forward to new Slav friends joining our wild & free Mustang funs!  Cool
682  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin PoW Upgrade Initiative on: March 25, 2017, 12:01:59 PM
A change of PoW as a quickfix (to fool currently manufactured ASICS) without too much risk of bugs can be as follows:

Instead of checking for n zero bits, implement checking for n one bits instead.

If you are bold, you can have the sequence of leading bits to check to be dependant on the trailing bits of the previous block.

Your first suggestion seems to be the simplest thing which would actually work.

But I also like the 2nd one!

An automatic full PoW switch trigger on extremely anomalous conditions.

An option worth considering on all doomsday machines....

683  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: @RogerVer lets make a deal. At least 60k, my BTU for your BTC. on: March 25, 2017, 11:12:20 AM
Boy...I love me some Internet. Calling someone in the hypothetical event of a coin split, that has put his life into promoting your Bitcoin a fucking pussy for not putting up $60MILs with a signed message at your convenience is the best. I don't particularly think that RV comes of as amiable, but dude has boots on the ground most days laying down what he believes to be right for debatably the most important technological breakthrough of our lifetime. Maybe he's being censored, maybe he's not. But the accusations probably aren't completely false and newcomers need to have the FULL DECENTRALIZED STORY. Maybe core has the better developers, who knows? Is segwit tougher to code than BU? It's all fucking nonsense because not making the correct decision for Bitcoin is scary shit. That's why I tend to side with the least riskier core implementation, but BU doesn't sound terrible.

cOOL sTORY bRO fEEL bETTER nOW ??  Tongue

Throwing around $130M exchange offers doesn't solve bitcoins problems. In fact it amplifies its divisiveness.

Divisiveness is the solution to Bitcoin's problems.  Specifically, BU needs to permanently divide its blockchain from Core's, fork off, and live happily ever after.
684  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin PoW Upgrade Initiative on: March 25, 2017, 09:52:26 AM
Have you guys looked at Cuckoo cycle?

FWIW we evaluated Cuckoo as well for Zcash, and it was a strong second-place contender. There wasn't really anything wrong with it — it just didn't seem to have quite as much of a rigorous scientific analysis as Equihash. However, that is a very subjective thing for me to say. You could argue (and Cuckoo's author, John Tromp, does argue persuasively) that Cuckoo's history of analysis and refinement is better than Equihash's.

What about cycling through 10 unique PoWs every 10 blocks?

I'm not the best at discrete analysis and understand this multiplies attack surface 10-fold, but could we splinter miners into small, specialized, and de-fanged factions using 10 different well-chosen hash algorithms, then scatter them among CPUs/GPUs/FPGAs/ASICs?

Block 1 JH
Block 2 Skein
Block 3 Groestl
Block 4 Cuckoo
Block 5 Keccak
Block 6 Equihash
Block 7 BLAKE2
Block 8 SCrypt
Block 9 CryptoNight
Block 10 Ethash

Let's change PoW so that anyone with moderate amount of capital can attack us, sounds like a great idea!

Agreed. You can hate ASICs, but they do provide a very robust network, very expensive to attack. Change of PoW would do more harm than good.

Right now, to attack Bitcoin you only need to bamboozle Jihan.  Not very expensive.  Cheesy

If Bitcoin is in danger due to such an attack, it's nice to have fully prepared contingency plans ready to deploy.

But the socioeconomic consensus will allow Roger and Jihan to initiate aggression before it reacts with overwhelming retaliatory force.
685  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: @RogerVer lets make a deal. At least 60k, my BTU for your BTC. on: March 23, 2017, 10:29:05 AM
Roger Ver thinks he is the ultimate whale of bitcoin when he is a nobody compared to real 2010-2011 tier whales

Pretty sure there are some 500.000 BTC+ cryptopunks out there reading this thread.

Im sure Roger Ver will find some excuse to not make the public deal because he isn't going to dump, he's just bluffing.

Bitcoin Unlimited nodes are crashing again due a bug. There are 0% chances the market will support BTU.

The (small but noisy) segment of the market's economic nodes currently attacking Bitcoin are running Core while signaling BTU support.

No matter.  Roger is a snotty punk (especially) compared to the 500k+ BTC Arcturian Megavoidwhales who frolic in the deep beyond Valhalla, singing to their God, the ultimate whale, Satoshi Himself.

At least one other person lost a significant amount, but I don't remember how much.
Fluffy would have done well to require 2FA on that site, instead he had a laser focus on being user friendly to promote monero use and make it easy for newbs to get in... well, newbs make mistakes.  Mistakes like using Fluffy's web wallet.

In fairness to FluffyPonzi, he has always been explicit and emphatic in his warnings that his webwallet is only for convenient holding of pocket change and "significant" amounts should not be trusted to the service.

In hindsight, perhaps he should have forced users to click though some "I pinky swear not to put a ton of coins in my webwallet because I understand they may be stolen via MITM or unknown Vault7/EquationGroup/FancyBear/GoldenShield attacks" agreement.

In all fairness I never heard any such thing until 2 people got raped. But it should be common knowledge not to use a web wallet for significant amounts.

If you didn't hear the copious warnings, that's not Fluffy's fault.  I'm not the only one who remembers his common sense 'it's a wallet for spending money not a vault for your life savings' messages.

fluffypony (site owner) always says you should not store significant amounts of XMR there

I've stated publicly (on Reddit, Bitcointalk, in talks at conferences, on podcasts) that it should be treated like an actual wallet and not used for storage.

Yeah it's well known alot of us don''t reddit so a post from there means shit. I'm not even going to bother checking the date.

I've stated publicly (on Reddit, Bitcointalk, in talks at conferences, on podcasts) that it should be treated like an actual wallet and not used for storage.

Better?

I am wondering if anyone performed a comparison with PIVX?  PIVX seems to also be shooting up like a rocket.

PIVX offers all the good things about Dash without the nasty Instamine, Duffield dictatorship, Otoh whale manipulation, and technical incompetence.

PIVX is going to be even better than Dash Classic!   Cool

After PIVX rebrands to Dash Unlimited it will really take over.

Please, we have a very nice thread to "speculate" about the DASH price:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1233119.0

keep this thread clean for more important issues  Wink

Thank you.

It would be nice if meaningless play-by-play noise posts like these, which are discouraged even on the Polo Trollbox, would be reported instead of posts critical of Dash's Instamine, centralization, collateralized mining, etc.

Free fall under 0.08 ... Cool

What was that again...? Kiss

Unfortunately the marketing-over-technology noise-over-signal smoke-over-steak paradigm DashHoles operate within prizes the high post number and page length over quality of discussion.

It's possible the trollbox banter is being used for forum sliding, in which critical posts warning about Dash's fraud are strategically moved farther back in the thread by piling on newer posts.
690  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 22, 2017, 10:35:18 PM
And many many people lost a fuckload of money because fluffy was telling everybody how bad dash is, right before it sprung x10. These people shorted dash because they beliefed fluffy, and lost all, these shorters are the ones which made the dash price rise exponential bigger than it would have been without the shorting. And they shorted because dash is so bad and its just a pump and dump scam coin and so on, at least everybody told them so - for them 20 dollar a dash was hardly overpriced, look where dash is now.

If you ask for who was scammed by dash, you won't find one (at least noone who was buying in the last 3 years), because price went from ath to ath, there could no one be scammed per definition, because noone could have lost with ath after ath. (for me a scam is if someone loses money! - ofc thats my definition, but its true!). On the other hand lots and lots of people lost money because they shorted dash after all that "its a total scam coin" definition from fluffy and his friends with all these cool videos...

This man speaks the truth. Just keep on listening to Fulffy and Icebreaker and Smooth and Generalthis and who else if you want to keep on losing money. Their track record so far certainly indicates that.

Oh sure, it's terrible how I told people to buy Monero for under 25 cents and then $1 while they had the chance.

We're crying in our Teslas....  Grin Grin Grin

oh i remember how you told tante that its unresponsible to not sell dash at 50$ ... you pushed it hard ... and for her luck she didn't response to you false prediction and dash rose another 50 $ to above 100 $ ... you are the real deal if it goes to trading advises !!!

keep trolling

I informed tante the responsible (especially for a lower middle class middle aged mother) thing to do with a huge rise in a high risk speculative asset is to take *SOME* money off the table.

I did not tell her to sell *ALL* her Dash, suggesting 50% as an easy place to draw the line.

Do you understand the difference between selling 50% and selling 100%?

It seems you do not, so I will explain as if you are 5 years old.

When you take profit, you may either cash out all of the position (which reduces to zero your future exposure to price changes) or cash out a part of your position (which locks in profit while still providing exposure to future price changes).

Letting it all ride "Because Muh Hot Streak" is the hallmark of a gambling addict, and Dash is very much more of a set of poker chips for whales and Instaminers than a fairly distributed coin.

It's a texbook example of why poor people stay poor.  They get greedy and the first bit of success goes to their head.

Unfortunately, pigs get slaughtered.

Finally, you have no way to knowing whether or not, nor to what extent, anyone took my advice to diversify.

Whether it's Bitcoin, Monero, or a scam like Dash, common sense tells us to diversify when a portfolio becomes imbalanced.

Defy common sense at your peril.  There is no need to get married to an asset and hold it exclusively, especially when a golden opportunity to diversity substantial sums of newly created wealth knocks on your door.

Tante, you have no business buying more Dash at the top of the market.

You should be a responsible parent and start taking profit for the sake of your lower middle class family's future.

You are setting a horrible example of fiscal irresponsibility and gambling addiction by acting as if the good times will last forever and no thought need be given to what happens when the music stops.

You are demonstrating exactly why poor people stay poor.  Rather than doing the right thing by mitigating risk via profit taking, you do the opposite and greedily expose yourself to more.

Oh well, at least you'll have a good story about the time you "Could Of/Would Of/Should Of" banked >$100k for the sake of posterity, but instead decided to act like a feckless grasshopper rather than an industrious ant.

Well said. That's the financial advice you should give to all people trying to make a buck. Some profit should have been taken at this stage.

*could have/should have/would have.  At least @tantestefana's kids might be able to fucking write.

Whats with my kids?  LOL  Yah, they're too smart for their own good Tongue

Sorry, I couldn't resist after I saw in someone's quote that iCEBRETARD was trying to claim you were setting your "kids" a bad example whilst demonstrating that he himself is only an example of arrogant stupidity and how important it is not to bunk off class.

To any kids reading, go to school.  Learn.  Don't be a dick.

Perhaps you are keen to change the topic to anything other than Dash's Instamine, centralization, failure to implement 2mb blocks/ring sigs/Masternode blinding/IP obfuscation/etc.

when will dash evolution roll out?  Huh

December 2017

Will Dash be able to use IPv6 by then?

It seems ridiculous for Dash to fork Bitcoin and then load on so much extra crap that IPv6 functionality is broken forever.

Quote from: crowning

That's not good for the network's diffuse/diverse properties.  Any attack that only works on IPv4 takes out 100& of all Masternodes instead of only most of them.

You're right! I think we should build our own mesh network because any attack that only works on the Internet will take out 100% of all nodes. Or even use some sort of quantum communications in case they'll come up with EM jamming.

I think Dash should be able to maintain the IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity it inherited from Bitcoin.  Maybe even bolt on i2p when Monero is done with Kovri.

Altcoins are supposed to push the envelope, not regress.  Do you want Dash to also abandon IPv4 and to back to SmallTalk, or perhaps ARPANET NCP?

Kicking 140 Masternodes off the network just because Evan broke IPv6 compatibility is asinine.  That kind of hideous kludge solution might be OK for a testnet but not the real thing.  Those Masternode owners collectively paid ~$16 million USD to put their money in a HYIP that is suddenly and arbitrarily being ordered by a centralized authority to function differently than as originally sold.

Why weren't Masternodes allowed to vote on whether or not to disable IPv6 and thereby kick 140 of their own off the network?

Is that how "distributed democracy by blockchain" is supposed to work?

What's the point of Dash's governance structure and voting when it's funding scams while Evan makes all the important decisions?

More analysis of why only supporting IPv4 is bad for decentralization (not that the marketing-moon-pump kids care about technology, but still...)

SHA256 Mining trustless distributed critical consensus is the most important (and the most resilient) point of resistance of Bitcoin, against the governments and the financial oligarchy.

Fixed it for you.  Bitcoin mining is a means to an end, not an end in itself.

I wish you could understand the difference between

A. signaling readiness for a new feature, and
B. voting for a new features

I know it's all very subtle and you don't do nuance, but please stop spreading the lie that miners are in charge of Bitcoin.

They are not and never will be.  That's not how any of this works.

Just because there are armed guards in front of the bank it doesn't mean those armed guards make executive decisions for the bank.

They are just hired muscle and may be fired if they forget their place and get uppity.
Problem is, we don't have a police force that can lock these muscle men up if they were to turn on the bank and become bank robbers themselves. I guess we're stuck with paying them off unless we hire someone bigger and stronger.

We do have such a police force.  It's called 'the economic majority.'

A little learning is a dangerous thing, or so they say.

So tell me iCE, whats the difference between

A. Acquiescence

and

B. Engagement

LOL what's the difference between your ass and a hole in the ground?   Cheesy

I never thought that dash can go 100 dollar...

i think Icebreaker post give some boost to Dash price discovery, btw i havent read any Ice's post today ? did he shorted Dash or something ?

LOL, why would I do that?

Please, Icebreaker if you keep on posting Dash will still continue to go up.

Yes, I realize THE DARKCOIN FOUNDATION INC. responds to my posts by rage-pumping Dash and rage-shorting Monero.

In fact, I'm counting on that. They will run out of money eventually.  The sooner we get the Dash bubble over with the better.

Nobody shorts Moneron because nobody cares. It is folks like you or even dumber: folks who listen to guys like you who hate-short Dash for almost a month now and they got fleeced. XMR lending is almost non existent on Polo.

You  are confusing me with someone else.

I am among the many who maintain that the Dash market is fundamentally distorted by the Masternode Ponzi scheme and acutely manipulated by Instamine-funded whales.

In such an unideal market, it is unwise to short expecting a near-term reversion to the (less irrational) mean.

This is exactly why I refer to Dash as a set of high-stakes poker chips for crypto-mobster wise guys like Otoh, BigRich, Edward Moncada, and Evan the Instaminer while cautioning the community that Dash is best avoided by hapless/greedy/credulous lightweights who cannot afford to be gambling with life-changing (and indeed posterity-altering) amounts of wealth.
700  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 20, 2017, 10:38:55 PM
...

For most of Monero's lifespan, it was behind Dark Coin in market cap, so we got quite used to it. The Dark/Dash trolls never let up about how their high market cap "proved" their superiority over other alts, and Monero in particular. When Monero surpassed scamcoin's market cap, the shoe was on the other foot, so to speak. Of course this presented a good opportunity for some revenge prodding.

You won't find many here who believe that a coin's short-term market cap is proof of its legitimacy, acceptance, superiority, or anything else. Market cap it but one quality of many. In fact, we're all quite aware that scamdash's centralization makes these pumps very easy to engineer.

Furthermore, we confine 99% of our chatter about Monero's marketcap to this Speculation thread.

Contrast that to Dash's ANN, which is mostly low-info trollbox posts about "MOON?WHEN?SOON?"

It's funny DashHoles brag about having the longest thread despite it being so obviously full of empty talk about the latest pump.   Grin
