@aasza, posting multiple posts in a row is against the forum rules, read before you continue -> Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ

~snip~
I don't charge everyone $40 it varies per transaction.

If you have different rules for this forum and Reddit then you should have written that, because the way you posted your ad suggests that your compensation depends on how aware someone is of what's going on with mempool right now. People need to know that the fees are currently low and they don't need to pay anyone to speed up their transactions.
682  Other / Meta / Re: Any moderator here? on: January 09, 2024, 04:28:09 PM
For those who are still wondering, OP wants to return this BTT account -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=202803

The account was created in 2013, but it is a Newbie account with only 12 posts. The OP posted some messages regarding the deleted posts, and in one of them the referral link is clearly visible. It is possible that the OP violated the rules of the forum by posting ref links and spamming, and even today such users do not have a very long lifespan.
683  Economy / Services / Re: DISCOUNT PAID TX ACCELERATION SERVICES on: January 09, 2024, 03:45:19 PM
Why didn't you copy your entire post from Reddit, especially the part about the price? At a time when the high priority fee is just over $2, you are asking for a minimum of $40 for your service...Even if it is half less than that, it seems to me that you are looking for naive victims who still think that the fees are the same as they were a week ago.

Quote
Pricing starts at $40 USD with all proceeds going to the miners, and for this you get your transaction sent to a large pool of mining companies who will add the transaction to a successfully mined block and have it confirmed usually within hours.. if not quicker.

684  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Warning] Fake Ledger wallet update email with phishing link. on: January 09, 2024, 12:19:18 PM
~snip~
Also: if you've been getting a lot of scam emails, it's a sign that you need to change email addresses.

If you use an e-mail that has good spam detection, most of such messages will go to the spam folder anyway, where they will be automatically deleted after some time. For those messages that still make it into the inbox, you should simply mark them as spam and in that way help other users not receive them in the inbox.

I'm not sure if there are certain words that can be added to spam filters in some e-mails so that you practically prohibit receiving e-mails that contain content that we are not interested in. For someone who does not own a Ledger or some other HW, I see no reason to receive any e-mails related to the same, especially if it is possible phishing/malware links.
685  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Number of Merchants Accepting BTC Payments Surged by 174% in 2023 on: January 09, 2024, 12:09:57 PM
Correct me if I'm way off base, but if a merchant accepts crypto at all, they're most likely using a payment processor like Bitpay which by default allows you to pay with coins other than bitcoin--and if that's true, then there would be no logical reason for anyone to pay with bitcoin when network fees are so absurdly high.

A few posts above yours, I quoted a part from the article posted by the OP, and there you can see that only a little less than 50% of sellers accept LN, which means that for those who have the knowledge, paying with Bitcoin can actually be much cheaper than fiat. Payment processors are something that definitely makes sense for on-chain transactions considering the volatility that is present with Bitcoin.

~snip~
But I've always questioned people's willingness to spend their bitcoin on goods & services when fiat works just fine.

Sometimes that also makes sense, because usually people like to spend Bitcoin when they have profited from it - so all those who, for example, invested when the price was around $20k or even lower, may not even see a problem in paying $3-$4 for fee in case that the value of the transaction is several hundred $.
686  Economy / Reputation / Re: @Cantsay - possible abuse of merits + alt accounts on: January 09, 2024, 11:40:24 AM
It is more than obvious that @Cantsay continues with the old practice, and this time it took him 1 minute and 6 seconds to respond to the post, and we should not be surprised at all that OP @Funke is also from Nigeria. Those who still believe in coincidences have fewer and fewer arguments to continue to think so.

Considering that @Cantsay is in the campaign managed by @icopress, I draw his attention once again to the behavior of this user.
687  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Number of Merchants Accepting BTC Payments Surged by 174% in 2023 on: January 08, 2024, 04:19:11 PM
~snip~
The transaction fee has been reduced to 40 sat/vB this week but it started to increase again. If transaction fees remain like this, The Merchants will stop accepting Bitcoin payments. If mempool goes back to normal mode again, more merchants will start accepting BTC payments.

Quote
According to market data collected by BTC Map, merchants accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment experienced a 174 percent surge in 2023 to around 9,926 as of this report. Out of this, around 5535 merchants accept Bitcoin’s on-chain payments whilst 5,107 accept lightning-powered Bitcoin payments.

It would be good if you read the article from the OP, which is only 3 minutes of reading, so some things would be much clearer. From the data, we can say that the ratio of merchants who accept Bitcoin as a means of payment is close to 50-50 when it comes to on-chain and LN.

As for the number of merchants, I think that it is greater than the number presented, and I conclude that from the fact that many are missing when I looked at the data on the map for my country (btcmap).
688  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Concerning Malwares on: January 08, 2024, 03:54:11 PM
Some might even ask the question which is worse - if the computer is infected with clipboard malware, with ransomware or with a remote access trojan?

For someone who has cryptocurrencies in their desktop or online wallet (CEX), clipboard malware is definitely a big risk if they don't pay attention to the details, otherwise such malware cannot cause damage. On the other hand, a computer infected with ransomware is practically useless because all files are locked, but if there is a backup, we can bypass the protection, or if there is no backup, we can wait for the authorities to catch the perpetrator and publish the decryption keys online.

I think that RAT is something that can cause the greatest damage because the hacker takes complete control over the computer, and if he does it carefully the victim does not have to notice anything for a long time. In that case, the hacker can spy on the victim and wait for the right moment to hack the wallet, because why hack someone who has $100 of value, if you have information that he plans to buy 5 or 10 times as much?

That's why the theory about checking the security of the wallet by sending a smaller amount and waiting to see if it will disappear is not completely safe.
689  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Honduras Special Zone officially recognizes Bitcoin as a unit of account on: January 08, 2024, 03:23:17 PM
I wonder how it will be for them once they completely make it legal tender despite of them one of the smallest countries in the world, they are one of the countries that are best to try this innovation and it could be for their best future if they have some great plan along with recognizing Bitcoin as a unit of account.
~snip~

As far as I know, Honduras is not a country that is being led into any speculations about doing anything similar to El Salvador, and besides, according to the latest data, Honduras has about 10.6 million inhabitants, compared to El Salvador, which has about 6.3 million.

This whole story is about a place called Prospera and it is located on the island of Roatan, and it is actually an autonomous zone, something similar to Hong Kong when it comes to China. Prospera still falls under the laws of Honduras especially when it comes to the constitution and criminal laws.

690  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Warning] Fake Ledger wallet update email with phishing link. on: January 08, 2024, 11:56:34 AM
I received an email to update Ledger wallet, but basically it is a fake email and the purpose of this email is phishing attack. And the email I received it on is the email I used once on the Ledger wallet website to participate in a promotional event. That means the data that was leaked from the Ledger wallet website is now being used by hackers to target Ledger wallet users.
~snip~

This is nothing new, the Ledger database was hacked a few years ago and it is not only about e-mails, but also about 300 000 of their users where all the data (name, surname, address and phone number) was leaked. But their CEO Pascal (lord of the rings) claimed not so long ago that this is not a problem and that most users did not even notice it.

Those who only receive phishing emails should consider themselves lucky, the rest can never rule out the possibility that they will become victims of even a physical attack.
691  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Scammer lead developer resigns from honeypot Wasabi Wallet on: January 08, 2024, 11:33:16 AM
Can anyone access any of those links using Tor Browser? The estimated waiting time is <3 minutes, but i already wait for over 15 minutes with no change.

I can confirm that I waited less than 3 minutes, and that after some strange captcha I was able to see the content. The home page that opens contains exactly what is in the OP. Maybe the problem was only temporary, or you should try changing the Tor Circuit (if you haven't already).
692  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Honduras Special Zone officially recognizes Bitcoin as a unit of account on: January 08, 2024, 11:06:23 AM
Well, all news of this kind is welcome, but considering that this is an area of 60K inhabitants, we should not be overly optimistic.
~snip~

The story with that island and their relationship with Bitcoin appeared for the first time in 2022, but later it was written that Honduras somehow challenges the island to do such things because they are not in accordance with the laws. It seems that they still managed to keep Bitcoin on the island, and regardless of the fact that it is a project that probably won't have a global impact, it is still something positive for Bitcoin.

A few topics I found in the Bitcoin discussion when it comes to Prospera.

Madeira and Prospera "adopting bitcoin"
Honduras SEZ accepting Bitcoin as legal tender. What could be the benifits?
BITCOIN NOW A LEGAL TENDER IN SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE OF HONDURAS.
693  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Collection Thread] Series and films in which Bitcoin (or Altcoins) appear on: January 08, 2024, 10:48:34 AM
movie: the bricklayer
1:27:49-1:27:49
woman: "we found Radek's laptop in the van, the bitcoin wallet wasnt there"
That's such a significant part that bitcoin is mentioned, bitcoin's not just a sort of passing thought of some side character or the main character or even a quip to to add in to the dialogue, it's a McGuffin now which is an awesome thing.
~snip~

Bitcoin is actually mentioned several times in the film, and even a hardware wallet (Ledger type) appears. The bad guys demand $100 million in BTC not to reveal some secrets, and when our bricklayer connects the HW to the computer, a transaction is initiated that transfers BTC from the device.

694  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Use your winning responsibly on: January 07, 2024, 02:46:34 PM
You think buying bigger hi res TV as a responsible way of spending?
I see spending money items that we use for entertainment to be irresponsible but that's my opinion and your money you have the way of spending it. But ask again, you are going to make your life better if you see big pictures in a TV or if you invest on something that may give you returns later. Smiley

Maybe the OP could have spent that money in a better way, but in any case it is better if he bought something that he obviously wanted, than if he continued to gamble with that money or if he only spent it on food, drinks or things that would soon ended up in some closet or garage. The OP will certainly enjoy his new TV, whether he's watching a movie, a game, or maybe a documentary, and I'm one of those people who appreciates high-end technology and is willing to pay for it, assuming it will serve me for many years.

As for reinvesting money, some people are too obsessed with it to the point that they only reinvest and never afford anything, then one day they realize that what they wanted all along they actually don't need anymore. Life is too short and every day can be our last - that's why I say "Memento Vivere".

there has been less spam posting. and it seems those that used to penny grab in sig campaigns are now gambling last years sig earnings in other sections of the forum, hoping to stay afloat

Spam is the same as before, at least when it comes to Bitcoin discussion and Economics boards. Let's take the example of this topic, which is "only" 11 pages long and, with a few honorable exceptions, serves to fulfill the quota of gambling campaign participants. On the last three pages, there are over 20 posts by members who are in gambling campaigns, and page 11 is only at the beginning.
696  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to Cancel Mycelium Transaction on: January 07, 2024, 12:06:57 PM
~snip~
I suggest you wait till your transaction is complete. --- It might take a few days but you won't incur so much transaction fees.

I wouldn't recommend waiting at all in this case, because the OP paid a very small fee compared to what is currently required to get a confirmation, and somehow it doesn't seem to me that we will see the fees to drop less than 10 sat/vB. Currently we have about 250 000 transactions that are in the range of 1-30 sat/vB that require more than 500 blocks to be confirmed.

~snip~

I would only add that the OP and everyone else who enters their seed in other wallets should be careful to download a legitimate wallet, and not some malicious version that will empty their wallet. Fake Electrum is very common because that wallet is very popular and free, so I would advise everyone to be careful what they do.

I'm not sure on what basis you conclude that the board "suddenly became quiet", but the numbers certainly don't show that. What am I missing?

It is not clear to me either how the OP came to the conclusion that the activity on these boards decreased in the first days of this year, because as you have shown, this is definitely not the case. It seems to me that the OP just got a subjective impression that the activity is less because he no longer sees all those signatures that advertised mixers.
698  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone just sent 26 BTC to genesis block address on: January 06, 2024, 03:21:54 PM
~snip~
Joke aside, I seriously doubts that's a mistake and whoever did it probably has an ulterior motive for doing it, rather than just burning 26 BTC.

What @gmaxwell wrote in his post makes sense, because it is not only CW Faketoshi who has already become a pathological liar, but all his sponsors are also infected with these lies. But when you are powerful enough and have a lot of money, you can claim whatever you want, especially that you are Satoshi Nakamoto, who cannot or does not want to defend himself against it.

However, I wouldn't completely rule out the possibility that someone who has a lot of Bitcoin because they bought it cheap or even mined it in the early days just wants their five minutes of fame.
699  Economy / Reputation / Re: @Lucius accusations: is there hope for all newbies? on: January 06, 2024, 02:48:27 PM
I don't blame you. Looking at how people using AI to make generic response, anyone can suspect a long easy and check with the tools. Fact is this tools are not 100%. They use algorithm which are not perfect. If you check same text with different tools, you will find different result. On the other hand AI is becoming smarter which is also creating confusions for the tool developers.

It is said that whoever works makes mistakes, and in the future I will have to be much more careful when it comes to AI chat bots and public accusations for those who may be using them. I know I first used the disputed detector and it showed me over 70% AI content, then I checked with another one I found online (not entirely sure of the name) which also showed over 60%. I think you're right, AI will become so sophisticated that we will hardly be able to recognize whether people or bots are writing here.

A skilled copywriter will easily "tweak" the text so that it looks more like it was written by a human. Honestly, that's what it looks like the most to me. That the OP is being helped by AI tools, dkbit98 found in his other post, which only strengthens my suspicions.

What exactly do you mean? I just see that he quoted one of my posts, which the tool also detected as an AI generated post. Of course, it is possible to additionally disguise such posts in such a way that they are a combination of AI, paraphrasing and plagiarism.

~snip~
This also could be the case. But if the author is going through the trouble of doing some re-writing, that's OK with me personally, as it means they at least put some thought & time into it. If just one or two words are changed, they add the words "I personally believe" at the beginning, or they add extra punctuation or something cheesy, that's still bad.

There are definitely those who completely plagiarize or use AI, and I don't think that any justifications should be sought for them, but is it even possible to determine what is the permissible level of using AI tools, without having to react to it? A Legendary member was caught by you not so long ago using AI, although not in the worst way - but still in a way that his posts were not entirely original, right?
700  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Manipulation / ETF's on: January 06, 2024, 12:05:04 PM
~snip~
A good example that we have of market manipulation is what Elon did with Dogecoins, and looks like SEC gives zero fucks about it. So, people don't have to worry about this.

I wouldn't say that they (SEC) didn't really care that Mr. Mars was manipulating that altcoin, which managed to pump up to, if I'm not mistaken, $0.70 - and I see proof of that in the fact that he very abruptly stopped what he was doing because he probably received a warning that he could be punished much worse than it was in 2018.

Washington D.C., Sept. 29, 2018 —
The Securities and Exchange Commission announced today that Elon Musk, CEO and Chairman of Silicon Valley-based Tesla Inc., has agreed to settle the securities fraud charge brought by the SEC against him last week.  The SEC also today charged Tesla with failing to have required disclosure controls and procedures relating to Musk’s tweets, a charge that Tesla has agreed to settle.  The settlements, which are subject to court approval, will result in comprehensive corporate governance and other reforms at Tesla—including Musk’s removal as Chairman of the Tesla board—and the payment by Musk and Tesla of financial penalties]

~snip~
Sec regulatory requirements may be pain in the ass and terrible for price, but they do work to make market manipulation more difficult.

I think they just wanted to ensure as much control as possible over such a way of trading when it comes to Bitcoin, and if they now have the largest company that is practically very close to political structures (BlackRock) and the company that will do the custodial part of the work (Coinbase), we can to conclude that there are conditions for approving such an ETF.
