701  Other / Meta / Re: Can mods alter trust feedback? on: July 31, 2013, 02:24:13 PM
Nah, I'm sure mods/global mods/admins without DB access cannot remove the trust ratings. Only theymos/people with DB access can do so, and I'm quite sure apart from a few spammers (who left negative feedback to over 30 people to extort them to pay to remove the ratings), no ratings are removed.
702  Economy / Services / Re: John (John K.)'s escrow service (previously known as johnthedong) on: July 30, 2013, 07:30:44 AM
PS: Note that in the future no escrow fees will be refunded once the escrow amount hits the escrow address, even if the escrow does not complete. (seller goes MIA after confirmation etc)

Thanks,
John

704  Other / Meta / Re: Why some donators are in default Trust list ? on: July 29, 2013, 06:35:00 PM
Then there would be too many inaccurate negative ratings. I don't want there to be any inaccurate negative ratings in the default trust network.

Did you have to step in when TF abused his "power" to paint gweedo with negative rep ?

EDIT : John K, did you choose not to promote anyone ? (or is it just lazyness/boredom ?  Wink)

I did give a few guys positive rep (check my trust link)? Huh Not sure about 'promoting' though - is that the same as giving positive feedback?

Nah, we're keeping this here for the sake of the community. Think of this being Level 1 of surviving in the Internet.

Dave,

I have been absent from this thread for awhile in the hopes that it would get removed by admins, but clearly it has not. I want to address your earlier responses:

So a couple of corrections, there is currently no revenue sharing, so the small amounts being sent out you are talking about calling revenue share do not exist. The only amounts being sent out are Founder referral rewards, which is basically a commission on Founder signups (which you said there was no payments for, and there isn't for the matrix, but there isn't even a matrix yet).

You pay around BTC1 to become a Founder, and they give you a small commission for everyone that you get to pay BTC1 and become a founder. Where do you think they are getting the BTC to pay the comissions? It's obvious! This is a clear pyramid scam. Don't let me prove it to you, I'll let you prove it to yourself. Read the next part of your post:

Also I don't consider this an investment scheme. The GBBG Bitcoin Fund I would consider an investment scheme but not the bitbillions program.
As for Founder positions vs Free positions. That is voluntary, yes you can get placed higher in the matrix with them and earn Founder rewards, maybe later there will be other benefits as well. Still free members will be able to earn and yes it does all depend on Bitbillions generating a revenue. That is one of the things that makes it legitimate. The fake programs will often give members 'fake' money with promises that it is real money by doing what you say above, paying members from other members memberships or other dodgy so called products that is just stuff on their website itself.

If you are a free member, you have to wait at the end of the line, and if anyone (even at the back of the line) becomes a founder member, they automatically move in front of you in line to receive a share of the potential future revenue. Then after you have been waiting for months, they tell you that there they ran out of revenue to share.

Oh, and while you were waiting in line they repeatedly announced things like "You are in luck! From today, until the end of June, 2013, GBBG will be granting 4 FREE FOUNDER MEMBERSHIP UPGRADES to any member who donates $100 or more." A free membership upgrade for $100+... wow Dave, wow... You investment seems to be in great hands.

The escrow address for bigbeninlondon's group buy is:

1JtPi2MbvCuMvBGT7VeyoyBcoGLTHYYYDp

Please state and agree to the conditions (if item is received damaged, item lost with tracking, customs fee etc) beforehand.

If possible, GPG sign your agreement to prevent any discrepancies later on and please ship with tracking to prevent problems during delivery.
GPG signing is not a requirement, and any verbal exchange in the form of private messages or posts on bitcointalk.org, or email is effective as a statement of condition.

Do note that I am only responsible for the funds up to the point it is sent to Avalon.
Any losses incurred by Avalon's or bigbeninlondon's failure to ship/reship will not be borne by me, but I will release the following data to aid in litigation actions.

In addition to that, I confirm the receipt of:

1) bigbeninlondon's DL
2) Photo of bigbeninlondon at his door
3) Photo of a statement addressed to bigbeninlondon

The fine print:
This Contract is solely generated for the purpose of facilitating the transaction between the seller and the buyer, which refers to the pseudonyms used on bitcointalk.org.
The escrow holder, John, assumes and gives no liability or guarantees on the satisfaction of all parties involved, although he agrees to mediate and facilitate the deal to the fullest extent he is capable of.  On the event that any problems arises, he will release the escrow to whichever party that presents him with the most convincing proof and/or after an open discussion with others or theymos.
The verbal acceptance by both parties (or the failure to reject) and the sending of Bitcoins to the escrow address above constitutes the acceptance of the terms and conditions stated, and the activation of this Contract.

Please understand that I am assuming the risk of holding the escrowed Bitcoins, and I am using my own time to facilitate this transaction.
I am imposing a fixed and nonrefundable fee of 2% for this transaction, to be deducted when the funds are moved.

Thank you.

John (the escrow holder)

711  Other / Meta / Re: Verify ID of marketplace sellers and groupbuy owners on: July 28, 2013, 04:51:22 AM
The problem with id verification is, like JohnK indicates, it doesn't necessarily remove the likelihood that people could still scam you.

Additionally, the person doing the ID verification would have to trust the other person to:
1) NOT re-use your ID to try to register an account elsewhere.
2) Store it securely.
3) NOT release it to the other person prior to reasonable arbitration of a dispute.

With the exception of maybe Casascius, I'm not sure I'd trust anyone that much, even JohnK (no offense). I especially wouldn't trust this forum without two-factor authentication (and quite possibly even with it). I'd need to know several of this data was stored offline and not subject to arbitrary government jurisdiction of the person storing the data.

Yeah, I prefer holding BTC to holding ID as I would be somewhat under suspicion if someone's ID gets out somehow. Having ID is still quite pointless if the user in question jumps to Mexico or gets hit by a bus anyway.

would you go and clarify it with the buyers soon?
I'm sure they'll understand given the dire situation

Yes I understand I will do it first thing after church tomorrow.

 Thomas:  Thank you
 me:  no problems and ttyl
me:  Oops, one important thing to note - there's talks by the group buyers that you said you sold your home (where the chips are going to). Is that true?
I sure hope that wasn't the case lol

Batch #1 was placed 4-27-13

Zefir's first order shipped and he received it a few days ago.  That was placed in what.. early April?  And i think the site gave Zefir a few days heads up as it went to 'chips shipped' a few days before he received them

There's no guarantee the time between orders is close at all to the time between shipment though

John K placed the order on Avalon's website so he can see the status of the order, last he posted it showed 'sample chips shipped'.  I would presume these also shipped to the old address.  raging said they had a bunch of customs problems, not sure if they ever made it through.

So basically the order was done in John K's name (and all the BTC was sent to his account as escrow).. but the actual shipping address was raging's old home.  The Avalon website doesn't support changing addresses normally and the description said they wouldn't support changing shipping addresses except in 'special cases'

Seems like the most important thing is to get ahold of Avalon, but they have essentially disappeared over the last two weeks.

Theoretically you could ask the shipping company to hold the package (maybe even change the address) but who would they consider the person in authority to do that?  Avalon?  ragingazn?  John K?

It really sucks for ragin that he had a family emergency, and although he did say he'd try to get back to everyone 'tomorrow' (meaning the 22nd, this monday).

The bigger issue may be not that it's a scam or anything, but that the 'old address' thing was overlooked, or raging isn't able to get back in time, or avalon is unable to be contacted or refuses to change shipping address and they end up going to ... what, a house that nobody lives at?  A house that he sold to someone?

Double quote removed.
714  Other / Meta / Re: Verify ID of marketplace sellers and groupbuy owners on: July 27, 2013, 06:01:16 PM
Well, I do offer ID verification to whom that requests me to do so (and post a signed statement in the thread they request me to do so), but it's still this  in all regards .

Quote
Warning: Moderators do not remove likely scams. You must use your own brain: caveat emptor. Watch out for Ponzi schemes. Do not invest more than you can afford to lose.

It's still up to the buyers themselves to evaluate the risks and judge the person involved here - ID verification is just a small part in ensuring that someone's not running.

Thank Johnk,

I vote for ryepdx.

If Avalon does not respond to you by next week, I say we bombard their support ticket system if we have to.
Anyone know of any other way to contact them? Twitter? Email? Phone? Someone in China?

Christ, why can't things just go smoothly around here.

I've PM'ed him and added him as a skype contact with a short introduction just now. Going to go the ticket way once the new operator's address and stuff is confirmed. Vycid sent Yifu's phone and stuff to me which was gleaned from the newsletters, but I doubt that could work from what I've seen so far...

Guys, please set up a vote if possible for the next operator just in case raging still stays MIA come next week. If push comes to shove where I'm forced to choose an operator ASAP, I will most probably go with either ryepdx or steamboat, whom both have kindly offered their services here. I will be forwarding the escrow held for ragingazn to either one of them in that case.

I'm trying to get hold of Avalon right now, but I guess they're really unresponsive like Raging here.... I still have a ticket from last week (unrelated to this group buy) unprocessed, and my first ticket to them was closed without any changes made. If the vote is confirmed by next week, I will be pushing the address to Avalon and bugging them until they change the address hopefully...
