721  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ¤ DMD Diamond 3.0 | Scarce ¤ Valuable ¤ Secure | PoS 3.0 | Masternodes 65% on: December 14, 2017, 03:59:59 PM

WHY I'M HODLING DMD?

I've bought 25 Diamonds about a month ago and I plan to hodl.

I don't consider DMD to be revolutionary in any way, in contrary, from technical point of view it's rather average generic coin.

But there is something unique in Diamonds, they have this psychological feel of being valuable. They are rare precious Diamonds after all. Wink
Branding, Marketing, Community building - all the "soft fields" are what DMD are excellent at.

I consider it to be kinda the self-fulfilling prophecy. If people have this feel (that I had, and I'm not that unique I think) that Diamonds should be valuable, they WILL be valuable.
It's purely psychological trick, BUT IT WORKS!

So I'm hodling, for now they go toe-to-toe with BTC, but I prefer to hodl DMD, cause they have much lower market cap,
what gives them possibility of sudden 10x (or more) gain, which is not possible on regular BTC (it takes months or years for 10x gain).
So it's much more likely to "hit the jackpot"  with DMD.
Someone can argue it's also more risky to hodl DMD than BTC, but because of forementioned psychological effect, I don't think that is really the case.

Do you have similar views?

DMD has been very stable in terms of price which makes it overall less of a risk to hold. It tracks the price in USD, not Bitcoin, though, so sometimes its price goes down in terms of BTC if BTC has a major spike. But since I started buying DMD the overall price trend in terms of USD has been nothing but up.

It sounds realistic that the DMD value could continue to go up, so even now it would be a good coin to buy a little at a time, you know, with money that you would normally spend on coffee or cigarettes, and just keep doing that. You can keep your wallet open for minting to get a bit more, and once you reach 100 DMD you could put it up on the shared masternode that Luis here runs.

The people asking about a DNotes ICO may be spam posters. I saw a similar question on a thread for a different coin that is currently on life support.
723  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: December 14, 2017, 03:52:00 PM
There's an important discussion on the NEM forum that you don't want to miss. It has to do with the upcoming launch of Catapult and how to best handle a switch to an entirely new network. Will NEM fork? Now is the time to share your opinion and potentially influence the future of NEM.

724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ‘Bitcoin Creator’ Craig Wright Claims 2018 Will Be the Year of Bitcoin Cash on: December 14, 2017, 03:46:46 AM
Bitcoin will eventually be replaced as the cryptocurrency of choice for regular transactions because of all its scalability issues, not to mention the high transaction fees. Really, the only thing that's stopping better designed cryptocurrencies from outright replacing Bitcoin is the lack of gateways into fiat. Coinbase already provides fiat gateways for Ethereum and Litecoin. I don't see either one of those coins as being the ultimate replacement for Bitcoin, though. Ethereum has too many problems with its wallets and network, and Litecoin just isn't interesting to a lot of people. I think it will most likely be several other cryptos which replace Bitcoin. Bitcoin Cash is certainly a possibility. I'd also consider NEM, DNotes, and DMD Diamond as strong contenders. Each one serves a different purpose, which is why I could easily see all three being used. They all have rock solid underlying technology (or are about to upgrade) and are easy to use (for crypto!). I suspect there will be a few others being used as well. STEEM is another possibility, though it has some network issues which could ultimately disqualify it.
725  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin transaction cost is too high on: December 14, 2017, 03:35:03 AM
So far, the Bitcoin developers and miners cannot agree on a fork that would both increase the number of transactions a block can handle and reduce the transaction fees. That's one of the bugs, er... features, of being decentralized and leaderless. Some of the other altcoins I know are still decentralized but maintain a stronger leadership so as to actually make decisions like when and how to fork the coin to keep up with the technology.

Guys, why the -55% drop on yobit?

Because NEM was trading there for $1.25 +. Now its back to par with other exchanges

I would recommend not to trade at yobit either way

Yobit seems to have a bad reputation. I don't have any experience with that platform.

Just noticed today that Craiglist.com now has a button you can check that says “cryptocurrency ok”. It brings up all the stuff listed where the sellers will accept cryptocurrency for. It was interesting to me that the box said “cryptocurrency”, instead of “Bitcoin”, or even “bitcoin”. What also interested me was the number of items that the sellers would accept Bitcoin. Was a lot! I think that sometimes, when we are immersed in our industry, we tend to not recognize how the public perceives this industry, and we sometimes miss, or underestimate the impact cryptocurrency is making. I, for one, continue to be amazed at how much John Q. Public really does know about Bitcoin, in particular. It seems to be catching on quicker that I imagined.

Smokey

I think more and more people are getting interested in cryptocurrencies every day. I'm starting to have friends and neighbors and even family members asking me questions about it. Selling stuff you no longer need on Craig's List would be a great way to get into Bitcoin. Far better than mortgaging your house.
728  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: December 14, 2017, 03:17:56 AM
Sounds like we need an alternative to Yobit.
729  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DNotes 2.0 - Bridging the Gap Between the Centralized and Decentralized World on: December 13, 2017, 02:25:31 AM
From a few weeks ago:

Can we see later Masternodes ?   because now i think will be best time to buy some Dnotes for masternodes .

Our focus right now is to ensure that everyone is able to participate in our programs and rewarded on a equal playing ground as much as possible. However, we do plan to have additions to the capability of the network, which would likely require a technology such as a master node. As we progress towards those goals, we will absolutely consider master nodes technology, but I cannot say at this time as we take it very seriously and want to ensure our upgrades are out of necessity and a need for the functionality. I cannot provide a direct answer to your question and I do not want to lead you down the wrong path in the event we don't adopt a master node like system.

I'm not super familiar with the technology, but my understanding is that you need something besides a bunch of PoS wallets to ensure network security and stability. That "something" can either be a masternode or a PoW that goes along with the PoS. When it's just PoS, you have opportunities for compromise and overall network instability. I hope this is being taken into consideration.

Guys, what do you think about the ICO? do you think the minimum cap will be reached?

What ICO?
731  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DNotes 2.0 - Bridging the Gap Between the Centralized and Decentralized World on: December 13, 2017, 02:17:23 AM
We believe that Proof of Stake is absolutely the best choice for DNotes. We are the most committed in promoting savings for the long-term. Our DNotesVault is ideally set up for that. The enormous amount of energy consumed to mine Bitcoin using Proof of Work will be a social issue in the future. Right now people are just in awe watching.

Will DNotes have masternodes? If so, what will be the amount of coin needed to run one? What will be the masternode rewards?

733  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Devcoin Exchange on: December 13, 2017, 01:22:52 AM
We need an exchange for devcoin, and the more exchanges the better. I suggest a 60 share bounty for the first person(s) to get devcoin on another exchange, 40 shares for the next person on another exchange, and 20 shares for the next. Any objections?

Any news on finding a new exchange for Devcoin since the abrupt departure of Coingather?
..

some updates about coingather which was dvc only exchange and where many millions of dvc were held and btc ltc etc
..
so some possibilities but new exchange needed anyway

not the best but they are CHEAP and have high volumes and multiple trading pairs, lots of crypto traders and eyeballs

I have applied

Yobit doesn't have the best reputation, but might be OK if you're in and out.
734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Women in the cryptocurrency industry on: December 12, 2017, 09:11:30 PM
Actually, bitcoin does not care about the gender. Anyone can invest in it as long as they know what they are dealing with. Honestly, I will be so amazed if I run into a woman who is interested in bitcoin. In my country, men are more interested in bitcoin than women.

I do not think women know about the existence of any cryptocurrency or maybe they just do not to show it to the world. They are just interested in gossip, fashion, and so on. I am not trying to judge them, it is just the way it is.

You must not get out much. There have been a number of women on this thread who have spoken up about their own interest in crypto, so I think it's time to reevaluate your assessment Wink

I would love to see more elaboration on plans to build an ecosystem around DMD Diamond. This coin is phenomenal as a stand alone coin. The fact that there are plans to build more of an ecosystem around it make it that much more exciting. Are the specifics in the white paper? Or can they be posted here?
736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Women in the cryptocurrency industry on: December 12, 2017, 07:43:18 PM
Empowering women is a key to inclusion. Many umbrella Ngo’s won’t fund projects unless there is a gender balance. Perhaps, next time I purchase tokens at ICO’s, I shall check to see how many women are on board, and in decision making positions. Cryto-feminism shall come together.

That's actually not a bad idea to check for that. I'm not saying it should be a deal breaker if everything else checks out, but I suspect that a lack of women on the dev/marketing team that's not merely coincidence would correlate with other red flags.

Tip #9: Know what makes a good altcoin

This morning I read this article describing what you absolutely never want to do: mortgage your home to buy Bitcoin. Please, don't ever do something like that. Earlier this year I sold off some NEM I was holding (at a much lower price than it is now) and used the proceeds to pay off some crippling credit card debt we'd gotten into years ago. Even though today I could have gotten four times as much for the coins I consider it to be a good decision. The added peace of mind getting out from under that debt has added to my family has been priceless. My point is you want to use your cryptocurrency venture to reduce your debt, not add to it. You certainly don't want to place your home at risk for the sake of a coin that may be entering into a bubble phase in terms of its price.

Looking at Bitcoin's current price, it's certainly possible that you missed the Bitcoin train, and that's OK. There are still plenty of great opportunities with altcoins. Not all altcoins are created equally, so it's important to know how to distinguish between the ones likely to succeed and the ones likely to fail. No one can know the future for sure, but there are definitely characteristics that make success more likely. Today I'm going to list some of them, then flesh them out further in subsequent posts.

A good altcoin needs to have most, preferably all, of these characteristics.

1. A solid business plan
2. Value added infrastructure beyond the coin
3. A solid and professional development team
4. A solid community
5. Good communication from the development team
6. A strong incentive to keep coins off the market
7. Systematic buy support for the coin on the market

I will flesh out each one of these further in subsequent posts. If you've done your previous "homework," you have probably already encountered a few altcoins that look really interesting to you. Try going back through their information and communication channels and see if you can spot the presence or lack of these characteristics.

Even when you believe you have found a winning altcoin to invest in, please only invest what you can afford to lose.

I could pout about the NEM I wasn't able to buy this past Friday because I put off the trade due to having a life... But that aside, I'm really loving this price rise. It's been long overdue.
739  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DNotes 2.0 - Bridging the Gap Between the Centralized and Decentralized World on: December 12, 2017, 06:21:48 PM

This is a great read.  He describes the many head winds still ahead of us.  Will the banksters actually allow this technology and industry to flourish?  Among the many points brought up in the article, is how POW mining is getting a bad wrap now with energy consumption.  True or not, that seems to be the FUD du jour from mainstream media.  The author responds to that criticism with,

"Alternative consensus protocols can stop this attack, like Proof of Stake. But more work is needed and Proof of Stake needs to prove itself with a major coin."

DNotes has a chance to showcase it's POS with the launch of 2.0.  Again, I believe the timing is perfect...and I get to buy $500 worth of cheap DNotes too.

https://hackernoon.com/bitcoins-final-boss-22e2a52f9c7d

Thanks for posting the link to such a comprehensive article. I agree that I'm seeing a lot of press about how much electricity POW is using and the environmental implications. I haven't followed them and certainly not done the maths, but just by noticing which channels that news trend was coming from made me feel that it was hyped and artificially motivated in some way. Even so, I do believe that POW is not a long term solution. I recognise it may have been the only way to get bitcoin off the ground and trusted in the beginning. But we're now seeing a lot of negative aspects that POS resolves. I believe that whether the or not it is bitcoin, the cryptocurrencies that dominate in the far future will be POS or at least some secure system that is less resource heavy...

Even The Weather Network is talking about bitcoin! The article gives the energy consumption 'facts' and makes some good points on the environmental impact of POW, but there are a few things about the industry that the author isn't quite clear on. For example, as an alternative to proof of work, he uses proof-of-importance as an example and doesn't even mention proof of stake (the top contender). There is one statement in the article that is 100% false, and it is something that DNotes can address head on:

"More importantly, the global financial system serves the entire world."  Huh

What is Bitcoin and why it is guzzling energy - https://webfailback.theweathernetwork.com/news/articles/is-bitcoin-an-energy-guzzler/90690/

That's interesting that proof of importance got mentioned rather then proof of stake. PoI is the way NEM determines who gets block rewards, but I do not know any other coins that use that method. Does anyone else here know?

I have little doubt that in a matter of a few years people will move towards Bitcoin alternatives. It's not so much trying to save on electricity that will motivate the shift, but rather getting tired of having to wait ten minutes for a transaction to confirm. Can you imagine paying for your groceries with a BTC transaction and then having to wait in the store with your ice cream and meat for up to 20 minutes just to get that first confirmation? Yeah, me neither!
