721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin really secure? on: August 18, 2017, 03:32:57 AM
Bitcoin wallet is secured day by day because of threats of hackers.
Most administration of the wallet is doing its best to serve us better and protect us.

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Grin

Hell no bitcoin isnt secure.

The reason? Most people's computers aren't secure  Wink

And this is the problem with bitcoin. Besides serious usability issues, your wallet is only as secure as the device/database it resides on. For the overwhelming majority of us, that's not that secure at all. Think about it; we just saw HBO and Netflix get hacked, the freaking DNC got hacked. While these are elite level hackers, the point is that this databases were protected by millions of dollars of cyber security. There is a whole department dedicated to this, and they failed.

If they can be penetrated, most things can be penetrated. Observe the highest  security protocols you can manage to maintain, and never trust an exchange for longer than you need it, on that specific trading action. You are only as strong as your weakest link. Dont let that link break and spill all your precious coins about.

723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers are active these days. on: August 17, 2017, 04:03:35 PM
As the cryptocurrency become popular and bitcoin price keep on soaring plenty of hackers are also becoming active everywhere. That's why every time I check my wallets online I always double check everything before I press enter because I don't want to get hack. Just recently my friend told me that she got hacked in etherdelta.

Can you elaborate on this? I use ED ALOT and while it has problems with functionality, I have never even dreamed of being hacked on ED, thats pretty much the entire point of ED being a dex. When you "wrap" coins (send them into the exchange) they go into a intermediary wallet that is specifically assigned to your account. If the exchange were hacked, so to speak, it would require a compromise of the smart contract. It would take entirely too much time and resources to compromise each and every wallet holding funds. This is why ED is so ass draggingly slow; every thing you do either requires a signed message, or a pair of transactions  that will need to confirm at least once.

did they get confidence scammed? or did ED get the best of them? (its a bit of a learning curve, I will admit)

724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers are active these days. on: August 17, 2017, 03:53:14 PM
Some bitcoin users told me not to do transactions in these couple of days because hackers are active these days. I want to know is it true? or some kind of rumor? Anyone here who have faced such problem?

Well in my own opinion, there are really many hackers these days so you need to be fully aware in your transactions. But always look in where you are typing because there are many fake websites that can steal your accounts in just one click, so always keep your eyes open or pilled.

This. As a sig camp manager, you would be floored at the amount of folks on a weekly basis that have their ETH wallets compromised. In a group of 300 people, say at least 10% of those folks get hacked during the course of a 4 WEEK campaign; another 5% will change their wallet addresses due to "possible insecurity'. This is why cryptos are so attractive to scammers/hackers; its just too easy at the moment given the high numbers of novice users. This is also why crypto isnt ready for the mainstream yet. There is a reason why ach is reversible, and that is that people tend to fuck up. Given how easy it is to fuck up in a very expensive way here, we will continue to be plagued by this until crypto becomes a lot more user friendly  Wink
725  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor security glitch on: August 17, 2017, 03:35:22 PM
So don't take your trezor with you to areas where you have to hand it over? Sounds like a non issue for most.

This is not the point! I really hope these are all FUDs and that Trezor is still very safe. If you can't take a Trezor out with you in order to not be lost, half of the point of owning Trezor goes down the drain immediately. Owning Trezor gave me a piece of mind when it comes to stuff like this, and if this peace of mind is no longer here, you guess.

Not to mention that as we get more and more adoption, ways to steal your coins will evolve just like people are stealing regular wallets today in subways, etc..

These are very serious allegations that need to be sorted out and explained.

Does anyone know is Ledger Nano S in the same possible boat?

But again, why would you hand your hardware wallet to anyone? You wouldnt hand your fiat wallet to a person to pay a transaction; typically people are pretty wary of folks trying to hold their wallet, be it physical or electronic.

This seems a non issue. Good practice says you shouldnt be taking your hardware wallet out of the house anyway, treat it like a vault or a safe. You would not walk into Walmart with a safe to pay your bill (although this would be hilarious). Use an intermediary wallet, something like a phone or a platform wallet , to move value like this. keep your hardware wallets physically secure as well, protect your value LOL.

I will admit that if your house gets burgled, and the thief recognizes your hardware wallet for what it is, you may have a problem. But this is a really far shot imo.
726  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Bounties (Altcoins) / Re: [Bounty] bitJob: Decentralized Student Marketplace - Bounty Program on: August 16, 2017, 07:37:26 PM
Hello Bounty Participants:
After much consideration, I have decided to split the bounty campaign into two parts, the presale and the general ICO. The original bounty campaign is now CLOSED. If you participated in the old campaign, I will release the updated sheet from the old campaign soon.

Twitter/Facebook:
It will require a few weeks to finish tallying up the 1500 plus Twitter/FB feeds. Please be patient, this will be completed in time.

Signature Campaign:
This is updated, but not released. I will release the document within a few days, once I have rechecked the posts and stakes. For those that contacted me directly with communication issues from the middle of the campaign (per OP), you have been credited.

Slack/Telegram Bounty:
If you participated in either of the channels, as per the OPs rules, you will be credited. This means simply signing up is not enough; if you actively participated on the channel, I will check and assign you credit.

Blog/Media Submissions:
These will be graded according to quality, credited and published at the same time that I release the update signature campaign results

Translations:
These will be graded and credited.

New Campaign:
I will be posting a new Bounty thread with rules for the second half of the campaign. The Translation and Slack/Telegram features will not be available in the next campaign.

This campaign is officially closed. Contact me on this thread for address edits/line corrections to the old form. I will post the link to the new thread in this thread when it is created.

Contact me via pm, or on Telegram (@onceler) if you have any questions about these changes.

Thank you.

Signature Check!

I have gone through the spreadsheet and removed participants that are no longer wearing the signature. Please remember, we cannot compensate you if you do not wear the signature for the entirety of the campaign. I will inform everyone when this is the case, PLEASE DO NOT remove your signature before this time. I sincerely appreciate your cooperation in this  Wink

The new sheet will be released soon, but the FB and Twitter tabs will not be updated until later in the campaign. If you have posted on FB or tweeted, do not remove the posts/tweets; I will be checking each account and if they are there, you will be credited  Smiley

Thank you for your continued participation!
Are you going to do a count for articles and videos after you count all the stocks on a signature campaign Huh

Indeed. Some of the media submissions are in non native languages; bear with me. I assure you, if you did the work, you will be credited. BTW, if you did a thing for Jamal and you arent sure if you have been credited, please pm me here or on telegram. I will make sure your work gets compensated. Smiley I will be starting a bounty telelgram group for general questions/updates.

Thank you, everyone, for your participation and continued interest!

730  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Atheism brougth us nothing good! on: August 13, 2017, 08:23:18 AM
I do not think that religion or atheism can give something good. Bad people are in different religious trends or atheists. It is more important to educate a person, not his religious faith.

Religious growth is an education. A moral and ethical one Wink

Folks often conflate a religion with its worst adherents. Take Christianity on this board for example. The overwhelming majority of atheist I see are former Christians. They don't object to the message itself, and how could you? When Christianity is done right, it is love, respect and empathy for your fellow man. Like Communism, it looks great on paper (the Bible is made of paper,) the issue is when folks don't follow the message. The hypocrisy turns a lot of folks off of the faith. The fact that there are "bummy" Christians enhances it for me; it tells me the path I walk is necessary, because I need to mitigate those that would cause others suffering.

If Christians acted like the New Testament, what critique, dear atheist, would you have for them? Don't feed the needy? Don't help the sick? Don't turn the other cheek? These are noble ideas.

Don't be mad at Christ. Be mad at people.
Don't be mad at Christ. Be mad at people.
Yes typical answer from a religious dude  Cheesy..

I thinks that is what they are already doing being mad at the people and not blaming the religion..
And you want more Cheesy Cheesy..

See you don't realise the trouble you cause by what you say over fairy tales ..

Be mad at the people over religion it's the people not the religion..

So now that can cause many outcomes

Not following the religion  Be mad at people.

Mock my religion   Be mad at people.

It's what you religious folk do  Be mad at people.

You read a book claim it to be the truth then go wacko if anyone disagrees with your idea of how the book should be interpreted when really it's all man made stories to sell a book in the olden days..

Like harry potter in 200 years from now ..
Then we will have the new harry potter testament because no one believes in wizards so just like the old testament got changed to the new testament harry potter will in 200 years.. Cheesy

Why is it if something is wrote in a book it's more true than if it's put on the internet ?..

You show people video evidence off youtube and they claim a book hold more substance  Tongue

You can see it come out of the persons mouth on many different videos from many different people
using mobile video phones but still a book hold more substance or a news paper ..

So if it's been wrote down in words on paper it's the truth..
But video evidence is a lie ..

Is a library full of books the truth over the internet holding the truth?..

I believe the internet over the library of books..

Well consider what you just wrote. I'm not mad at any of the atheist here that continually attack my religion. You and I disagree on a lot of shit, but I still love you. You could come stay at my crib and eat my food. You have done me no harm. Who am I to judge you for your beliefs? My Lord doesn't judge me for my sins, and I am so much less than him.

Why are we mad at those that don't agree with us? I'm usually meh. The opposite of love isn't hate, it's apathy. The things that I do not love are the things that are meaningless to me. So I always question the motivations of those that attack things that don't concern them. I have no opinion about the things I don't care about.

This boils down to faith, bro. I will never be able to explain faith in the unknown to you. It is a measure given to all men; but it withers with disuse.

Show me irrefutable proof if the not existence of God. You can't. As I would have a hard time showing you proof of the opposite.

I've never gone wacko behind defending this. Your life is your choice. Free will and such. I just want you to sit with me in Heaven, so we can talk like this whenever. Thus is the extent of my love for you popcorn, and everyone on this board, you too Moloch. The way you guys talk shows me that because of my religion, you don't have the same empathy for me. you think me a fool, despite my goodwill.

I can accept that. Its life. And it's beautiful, I wouldn't change it or any of you one single bit.

God bless all of you.
731  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's make ‘Buy Bitcoin’ Sign Appears Everywhere! on: August 13, 2017, 02:49:57 AM
I think that guy was only trying to pull a joke or prank on that scene. Maybe it is also an awesome way of promoting, but in my opinion there are so many advertisers out there promoting bitcoins and other alternate cryptocurrencies. If that guy wasn't doing it for fun maybe he's trying to promote it by his own method. Lets just say, users right now are increasing, so you think the news wont be spread basing on those feed backs of all the users? Of course they would share it to someone.

valid point, but consider this. with all the adoption, if folks were actually using btc, why hasnt the network slowed to a crawl?

people are investing into bitcoin, not actually transacting bitcoin. this is not the common public at this point; the usability of bitcoin is still too rough for widespread use. imagine if everyone had bitcoin, and how many times you see threads here screaming "got hacked!" or "got scammed!" . If the average user on here has a higher level of cyber security that the common person, this board would be bedlam with people getting robbed.

but back to the topic, viral stuff like this goes a long way. i prefer targeted ad campaigns, but the right piece of media can turn into a meme, disseminate, and become immortal. ask 4chan about pepe  Cheesy

but, if you want to promote bitcoin, i guess this isnt that bad of an idea. again, the Foundation, for its own sake, really needs to prioritize public bitcoin education. but if they dont (they wont, and honestly not mad because we need to be better before we go primetime), things like sign bro will be what makes btc take off.

but why is the price 4k though??

732  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Bitcoin will survive after 100 year ? on: August 13, 2017, 01:48:13 AM
It really depends what do you mean by "survive". BTC might still exist but it might as well be irrelevant to the general populace as something new and big might come by to replace it.
If by "survive" you mean BTC being the #1 crypto in terms of price and market cap? That might be it as well.
But we've seen BTC already being challenged by ETH at this very moment with ETH passing it in both transactions and nodes.

No, and I would be disappointed if it did, thats stagnant AF. As much as I like bitcoin, there is no way it will still be here 100 years later. at least, not like this; it would be a legacy system people only used out of nostalgia. We already have better implementations of crypto in my opinion, but they simply arent as trusted as bitcoin is. primacy means something here.  look at how much progress we have made with blockchains in general. It will take a generation that grows up with the blockchain concept to foster its evolution. after that, bitcoin wont even be the coolest kid on the block anymore.

Think of it like cars. While we still have cars, many years later after their invention, no one is driving around in a Model T anymore. Bitcoin is that Model T.  Wink

It wont be eth either. sorry fanbois...
733  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm moderately knowledgeable in cryptocurrency, but now I'm in a rut. What should I learn next? on: August 13, 2017, 01:39:04 AM
So I've been using bitcoin for about almost 3 years. Around six months ago I decided that I was tired of kicking myself for not investing in it and just hodling. So I set out to learn everything I could about cryptocurrency, the blockchain, and altcoin trading. Everything I've learned has been self taught. Now I feel like I need some mentoring, a big brother, an instructor. What should I do next? If anyone answers my post I'll be more specific about what knowledge I already have. I'll give one example: I'm ready to begin learning how to read charts properly. Any good reccomendations for where to begin? I have many other questions but that one is a good example of where I'm at in my journey for crypto-nirvana.

Posted From bitcointalk.org Android App

You dont need a mentor, you have already demonstrated you are perfectly capable of teaching yourself. You need a new focus, and there is plenty of that here. You havent even scratched the surface Wink

Learn economics beyond a novice level. this is money, and our ecosystem is a perfect example of certain economic concepts that dont have real world counterparts (deflationary currency, for example)

Learn the programmatic aspects of bitcoin. this escapes me; all that shit is pretty much black magic as far as im concerned.

Learn technical analysis as you said. To be honest it doesnt work so good here, because of the types of investor and the rampant obvious manipulation. But the longer a chart is, if a market is more of less natural, it should help in predicting trends. i promise you, there is a life time of technical analysis to learn.

Learn cryptography. That shit is so deep your mind will melt. I tried, on a quest much like yours. I think I got to salt as a concept instead of a food before I tuned out.

And finally, when you have contemplated the secrets of the bitcoin universe and have transcended...

..explain the Ethereum whitepaper to me  Grin

734  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why can't religious people spell words correctly? on: August 13, 2017, 01:25:40 AM
How hard is it really?

This is 2017... we have spell-check, we have auto-correct...

I constantly see religious people misspell words that a 3rd grader should know... wtf?!?

Your computer will underline words you spell wrong... how hard is it?!?

You look like a fool when you make 3+ spelling mistakes in 2 sentences... I can't take that seriously

Sometimes it's difficult to even tell what the person is trying to say because their spelling and grammar is just THAT bad

What gives?

Is it a lack of education among religious people?

I don't understand how any adult could misspell simple words with only 4-5 letters... how do you survive life?

We are too busy persecuting Non Christians to learn proper spelling Smiley Duh.

When I clicked on this, I thought you were going to point out How We Capitalize Everything, as Though Capitalizing A Word Increases Its Import. That shit actually cracks me up. But nah, you were just talking to dumb asses. They come in other flavors besides Christian  Grin

It is still good to hold our coins in a long term. Were everyone here are doing the same thing for believing they could get a lot of
benefits of it. Just be patience in waiting always calm and control our emotion and don't get attract or panic so easily if the price drop.

Annnnd Im off. im 25% nubits/25% tether/50% coinbase usd. I have all this parked in orders that are 10% below my magical target (i would name it, but I dont want you guys to listen to my trading advice, this is just for the record). Now that Im out, I will state my mind on this.

This shit is going down.

Why are we at 4000 right now? There is no new news, no updates, no nothing. bitcoin has completely outpaced gold and I simply ask the community to ask why. I harp on gold, not because Im a gold bug but because gold is a hell of an established benchmark. if we believe in bitcoin, surely you believe in precious metal, it was the original bitcoin dammit (its deflationary properties, its trust). With something as real as gold, something man has slain his brother for since time unrecorded, why the FUCK is bitcoin multiple times its value, a thing made of secrets and information? I cant wear a bitcoin necklace; I cant put bitcoin in my catalytic converter to make my car work sparkling fresh.

People, sit down and let me rap to you.

This is a bubble. i hope im wrong, but dont let the greed blind you and harm you. Im not trying to influence anyone; while I am a shit this is not that. We are moving too fast with the price. Growth like this is unsustainable. I dont want yall to get hurt. Make a decision tonight. Hodl, and understand empirically this is the break point. or divest, and wait for a dip/crash/retraction that just may not happen. I hold for the later. time will make one of these paths a lie.

disclaimer: i will rebuy at 4200. and hodl unsteadily.

Good luck, gentle folks.
736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should Bitcoin be denominated as mBTC? on: August 13, 2017, 01:05:01 AM
Would that increase adoption? I know many people hesitate due to the high price and would probably buy it if it was seen as "less expensive".

For example:

1 BTC =   $3,900 USD = 1,000 mBTC

or

$3.9 USD per 1 mBTC

This is already the case. Its optional. Should we rename 100 dollar bills 10x10 dollar bills?

you're welcome to, but, in short, HELL no.

Not trying to be a dick, but wtf is a DOTA?

I kid, but joke to illustrate my point. We need bitcoin to be advertised in mainstream venues, to actually increase public awareness. A DOTA tournament, and the folks that would watch a DOTA tournament, pretty much beyond the shadow of a doubt already know what bitcoin is. I mean, a dude held up a bitcoin sign.

We need bitcoin signs a Beyonce concerts. And NBA/NFL games. At the Grammys and Emmys. And not some hastily made school project board job; we need the Foundation to actually sponsor said advertisement, like the hilarious but sad Bitcoin Bowl. It could have worked out great, its just they didnt really try to actually market. It seems they thought people were going to be so amazed at the virtues of bitcoin they would instantly adopt, I guess.. it didnt turn out too pretty, the merchants that pledged to accept btc didnt get customers. also a flawed campaign, because duh someone that would spend bitcoin obviously knows about it.

Le sigh.

740  Economy / Economics / Re: Why Is Bitcoin's Value So Volatile? on: August 13, 2017, 12:17:19 AM
Bitcoin's value is volatile because there are not enough users/money invested worldwide.

Even a multimillionaire can have an effect on the price because if he buys lots of Bitcoins the price will go up.

Also if someone with lots of Bitcoins from 2009 or 2010 comes along then he dumps his coins there can be a global price drop.

But when there is more money invested (over $1,000,000,000,000) then no one will be able to affect the price a lot. Not even the richest people in the world. This is when the volatility will stop.
Indeed, this is the actual reason behind the volatile nature of Bitcoins. To become stable, it still needs much more support around the globe. The pace at which Bitcoins are becoming popular, it would not be an exaggeration to predict that within a decade Bitcoins will become the most stable digital currency worldwide.

This isn't even the whole of it. The lack of liquidity due to its small total valuation (yes, this is small) makes the uneducated investors respond with more effect. Dips become dumps; natural growth gets misinterpreted and then exaggerated.  A perfect example of this is what happened with BCC as it became available after the fork. People couldn't arb because everything was janked up, so the price started varying wildly per exchange (250 on hitbtc, 700 on Bittrex).

For whales it's hard to move your position around without making the market react.

And for those that say a billion is too high to manipulate, remember, rich people can work together Wink
