Theymos, in the interest of simplicity, can you give the formulas for each of the 4 numbers?

What kind of a question is that?

Someone's got their head on straight. Note: firefox does not use the system proxy setting, so good luck getting it to work over Tor. Chrome does.

just plain old autocorrected-without-looking thumb typing.
That's SwiftKey's specialty. Some of the big OEM's should stop trying to make their own crappy keyboards and just make a deal with SwiftKey.
I tend to agree about the speed, but two-thumbing gets tiring more quickly, especially because you're lifting them vertically.

Wait -- it's possible to type on these things? My big, fat thumbs are always pressing 2-3 keys unless I switch to landscape mode, and then I usually can't see what I'm typing. Whatever happened to those phones with the slide-out keyboards?  Sad
Use your nails, or try swiping.
725  Economy / Services / Re: [WTS] GPG and OTC Tutoring - One-on-one - 1 Hour FREE! [20 remaining] on: May 24, 2013, 09:13:47 PM
Does .1 BTC increments mean there are now 20 remaining?

Exactly.
Topic updated.

I started looking at GPG and OTC and realized that I was over my head and would have to spend way more than an hour at it.  I can spend an hour right now, but I can't spend the 10-15 it would probably take me to start figuring this stuff out on my own.

If this generous offer from MPEx is still available, I would very much like to schedule a tutoring session.  PM'ed.

Thanks in advance!
PM'ed.

The trust system is new. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=211858.0;all

Agree to disagree on the keyboard. Having tried the iPhone keyboard, Swiftkey, and Swype (latest beta), I've found that swiping is much faster than tapping, and SwiftKey's AutoCorrect is more accurate than the iPhone's (it will sometimes predict 4 words in advance!)

Edit: yes, no Android phone that I know of ships with a good keyboard.
728  Economy / Services / Re: [WTS] GPG and OTC Tutoring - One-on-one - 1 Hour FREE! [3 remaining] on: May 24, 2013, 05:47:46 PM
Paid out.

Seeing how the BTC ratio increased massively since this project was started, and in the interest of getting as many people as possible helped with their GPG stuff, further payments will be made in .1 BTC increments.
Received. Next up: Bit_Happy.

Does .1 BTC increments mean there are now 20 remaining?

Yep, I really did.  Lots of little things I just really didn't like about it.  The keyboard is terrible (all of them), the screen is very hard to see in sunlight, some apps are $10 or $20 on Android while free on iOS, I can't go from the lock screen straight to taking a picture, taking a screenshot of the phone didn't work 80% of the time, etc.  The iPhone just does everything I want it to do except Bitcoin (hopefully more support in that area will come soon), so I switched back.
You sound like me switching from an iPhone.
"Lots of little things I just really didn't like about it. The keyboard is terrible (there's no way to try even one other), the screen is tiny, the appstore is blatantly censored for political views and there's no way to sideload apps, I can't use lockscreen widgets (or widgets at all), can't replace the battery (useful on long trips), can't expand the tiny storage space with an SD card, no Bitcoin allowed, etc etc. Android does everything I want it to, so I switched to it.

It'd be nice if we could give feedback from someone's user page, for off-the-forum deals and importing trades prior to the implementation of this feature.

Go ahead.
I mean it would be easier if there were trust links on the user pages like yours, instead of having to change action= to trust (just figured that bit out).

My problem with ChartBuddy:

Absolutely illegible as soon as there's any movement at all

Next chart will be zero z rotation. We'll see if that helps.
We'll see. For another great example, try to figure out what happened with the bids @ $110 in ChartBuddy's latest post.

734  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Satoshi Dice -- Statistical Analysis on: May 18, 2013, 02:21:47 AM
50% of the country has one male child.
25% of the country has one male and one female child.
12.5% ... 2 females, one male
6.25% ... 3 females, one male
3.125% ... 4 females, one male
etc etc

Or you can look at it this way:

50% of the country has at least 1 girl - contributing P/2 to the girl population
25% of the country has a 2nd girl - contributing P/4 to the girl population
12.5% of the country has a 3rd girl - contributing P/8 to the girl population
...

so the total number of girls is P(1/2+1/4+1/8+ ...) = P.
Or, you can fall back to the axioms: there are n trials, and on average n/2 of them will be girls. The trial conditions are irrelevant to the probability. This is just a bit hard to grok.
735  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Satoshi Dice -- Statistical Analysis on: May 17, 2013, 08:00:07 PM
Schools need to teach more probability and formal logic.
Relevant analogy :
If there is a country where every husband and wife decides to have children until they have a boy, what is the distribution of boys vs. girls in the country?
This is a great analogy. Let's see if a written approach can help:

Separating the trial-end condition from the trials themselves, we know that on average, the distribution should be equal. However, if it's not inherently obvious that the trial-end condition doesn't affect the probability, consider this:

Half of the pairs will have a boy on the first try.
The other half will have a girl on the first try.

Now, set aside the first try and the male births. Start over, ignoring the first birth, with all of the couples who had girls.
Half of them will have a boy on this try.
The other half will have a girl on this try.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

50% of the country has one male child.
25% of the country has one male and one female child.
12.5% ... 2 females, one male
6.25% ... 3 females, one male
3.125% ... 4 females, one male
etc etc

If there were 100 couples, it should be obvious from the definition that there would be 100 boys, since each couple has a boy. But how many girls would there be? On average, 100.

Mathematically:
The population of females is the sum of the sequence (n-1)/(2^n) from n=1 to infinity
The population of males is the sum of the sequence (1)/(2^n) from n=1 to infinity
I can go into more detail, but both of these sequences converge, and both of them are equal to 1. (Thus each parent will have, on average, 2 children.)

What most likely throws people off is the different "speeds" at which these functions change. Plug them into Wolfram Alpha and compare the graphs.
736  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanity Pool - vanity address generator pool on: May 17, 2013, 07:19:19 PM
Does the solved work have to be case sensitive? I searched the thread for "case" and didn't find anything. For example, right now the first in available work is 1111Wish, does it have to be exactly that, or perhaps 1111WiSH, 1111WisH, 1111wish, or one of the many others? If not, then I believe the pool should have an option for the user who is requesting the address to be case sensitive or not. This would promote a few more sales.

The solution is case sensitive as properly charging for regexp work is a bit too complex for me to implement at the moment.
Case insensitivity does not require regex and the difficulty calculation is fairly simple.

Drew some lines on the 3-week scale.

What a lackluster breakout. Prepare for panic stability!

If the price stays stable like this, I'll buy some for usage rather than speculation. Unfortunately, many people like me will cause slippage, and the price will go up again! The only solution: a higher price!

Almost forgot!

Notification Toggle is an absolute must-have, especially if your version of TouchWiz doesn't have a data toggle in the shade.
739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Printing many private keys on: May 13, 2013, 12:22:49 AM
Thanks. I'm looking for a method that uses Bitcoin qt.
bitcoind getnewaddress
bitcoind dumpprivkey addressfrompreviouscall

This. Right-click on the icon and choose "debug window" to try out these commands (drop 'bitcoind'), then write yourself a script to call bitcoind.

Listed by order of importance

You definitely want ES File Explorer. It handles so much, and makes so many apps obsolete. It includes a media player, storage analyzer, application backup (get APKs), download manager, etc.

If you plan on watching movies, MX Player is the way to go. Great UI and supports all sorts of formats.

Google Authenticator for 2fa.

TeamViewer has a surprisingly usable interface.

I use Bitcoin Widget to watch the price.

Orbot is Tor on Android. With the proper system settings (under your WiFi network), you can get Chrome to connect through it.

Everyone has their own favorite keyboard; mine is Swype Beta (not available on the Play Store). Install Hacker's Keyboard alongside that.

Maybe you want an IRC client and APG for mobile bitcoin-otc stuff; you could also use TeamViewer for that.

Tasker for automation, AIDE for quick on-device app development (handy for programmers). Similarly, there's the kbox terminal emulator which can run quick sh scripts. Limbo PC Emulator can run Damn Small Linux within the device without root.

Screen Filter to go below the minimum brightness setting
