I would like to propose the addition of a new feature for users: Live Chat With the PM system it's a bit hard to have a conversation since it's not keeping the same conversation in a thread (or some other way of organizing that makes sense). It would be really nice to have a place where everyone can chat live and not be required to always switch to skype or other apps. I had this simple machines forum (same as BCT) installed on my web server about 10 years ago and had added in the option for live chat that even included a bot I don't think the same software would work for everybody today because it was flash based (at that time flash was really cool and new) but nowadays since the switch to html5, it's not supported anymore. I found some possible candidates here: https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?action=search;basic_search=chathttps://www.arrowchat.com/smf-chat/https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=475150.0 What do you think would work best for this forum? UPDATE: As a lot of people did not read the posts after this OP, here are some things that were discussed:1. This will be a personalized chat (similar to FB messenger - only 2 people will talk in a chat) not a main chat where everybody would join and talk nonsense. 2. There are a number of limitations that can be implemented into it (most likely they already exist) like: - Number of active chats at one time could be limited based on rank
- Access to it could also be limited based on rank
- Limit of instant messages (IMs) that can be sent out on an hourly basis to different users based on rank
- A button to "mute/block" a user
3. Advantages: - Communication would be faster
- Easy to use when you have to send multiple replies, unlike the current PM system, but not a replacement of it
- Not using 3rd party apps like skype, icq or other live chat apps that can be vulnerable to social engineering that leads to hacking your account here, e-mail, wallets etc.
It would be nice to test it out in this forum and see what the users think of it, since it won't be too much work to integrate it. If it catches on, maybe it could be added to epochtalk as well. No system/feature will ever be perfect. We can integrate it, see how it works for a few weeks and tweak it along the way.I would appreciate constructive posts on this. "Naysayers" that do not care to bring valid arguments to this can post somewhere else.

confused...there is merit...is the sMerit stuff that the higher ups hand out for folk to pass around more than usual?
confused on how the whole thing works...I hand out merit occasionally...but again sMerit is something else right?
(unsure of the process)

Thanks a lot for sponsoring the thread! This will allow me to continue the review service for a while! You can find more info on it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0SMerit stands for sendable merit. These are the ones you can hand out when you think a post deserves it.
Merit is the merit each person has received that shows up on their profile. It is needed to rank up on the forum.
It is covered to a rediculous amount in meta.
If you click on the merit button it will tell you how much sendable merit you have, above where it gives you the option to award merit.
Hope that helps
EDIT: each month you receive a certain amount of smerit to hand out. also there is no benefit to holding or hoarding it.
Actually, you will receive sMerit under these conditions: - Monthly, but only if you are a merit source.
- When you receive Merit from someone, you will automatically get half of it as sMerits (spendable merits)
More info here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0

This service is still open Post here if you need 1 merit to rank up.

This post got buried instantly... Would like more input from other members actively trading altcoins.

These are my threads, for the record.
That's even worse. As a thread owner you need to lock the thread when you got enough responses to avoid creating a mega thread...

You are on a good track but you can improve by citing sources and trying to put more work into your posts. Some have duplicate sentences. Your posts mainly consist of bounty replies with a lot of cascading quotes in them. You need to improve the quality of your posts to receive merit and rank up. Your posts look ok, your logic is sound in them. Merited! Suggestion: You can explore more sections on this forum to get more merit and attention. Your posts are mostly one line long and English can be improved in them. You have a lot of posts in bounties. Your post quality needs to improve in order to rank up. You have good logic in your posts but you keep posting in mega threads. I can't overlook this, it will just increase spam. You are on a good track but you need to increase the quality. You have already received merit for this post. You do not qualify.

Your posts are ok. Merited! Suggestion: explore more of the sections of this forum Your posts are good, your input as a web dev is good! Merited! You can also explore more of the sections of this forum. Your posts are ok but they need some improvements. I see you have a lot of posts in mega threads, that mainly increased the spam there. Keep being on point, avoid mega threads and you will rank up You are on a good track but a lot of your posts are speculations. A good point to increase the quality would be to also quote some sources. Also, the mega threads could be avoided. Your posts are copy/pasted from here: https://cryptobuza.com/ I realize you may be the same guy that posted this on his blog but you should state the source if you want to bring more clarity to your posts. Otherwise people will just think you created this post just to get merit. All of you posts are in mega threads... Some are at page 45... You're just increasing the spam with these. You can improve the quality of them as well by citing sources etc. You still need to improve, some of your posts are contradictory. Also, you can take a look over other sections of this forum. I see you're not a native English speaker and your English is good! You still can improve, you have a lot of posts in mega threads. You can check out some other sections of this forum. Please loose the "sir" in your posts, we're all informal here. Your English is good as well That's a big plus. You still need to improve the quality of your posts, some of them contain looong quotes, no need for them, just quote the last person you're talking to and remove some of the unnecessary clutter. Your posts look good, it seems you have a true urge to help others That's the whole point of the community. Merited! Suggestion: You can also diversify the forum sections you frequent.
Done with page 1 Will continue later on with page 2. Please keep in mind that the comments I added here are entirely subjective, please view them as "constructive criticism". I'm slowly but surely running out of merit so, merit sponsors are welcome to join

You are on a good path, ranking up will be just a matter of time for you. Your knowledge in the mining field is decent. Merited! Good luck Your posts are in bounty campaigns or bounty related. You need to diversify and learn more about the crypto world in order to receive merit. Your posts have logic but their content is still lacking some knowledge, some are a bit speculative and you tend to post in mega threads. You also have a lot of posts in bounty threads which is not really a bad thing but you still need to improve your quality overall.

|
|
I took a look over your post history but couldn't find more than 3-4 posts that had content in them other than endless bounty posts with huge quotes... Another thing is begging for merit at the end of a post which will not bring you merits, you need to remove those lines otherwise people will think you created them just for that. Please read the rules here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0Although you are on a good path, you need to improve in order to get merits and rank up. I took a look at your posts but they are very hard to follow. I suggest you should improve your English or post in the local boards. Another thing is that you're posting in mega threads and essentially increasing the spam. Please read the rules here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0

I'm creating this second thread as my first one didn't get too much traffic (or there aren't many users that can rank up) and I still have sMerit to send out. If you meet the requirements on the other one, then by all means, be sure to also post there I am doing this to get more attention to the Altcoin boards (where I also normally post) until more merit sources are assigned to that section. Sponsors:I would like to thank the sponsors for their support in improving the quality of this forum! Your merits will be put to good use. Rules:- You are trying to help the forum community & post good content
- You are NOT posting in useless mega-threads
- You are currently at least a Jr. Member
- Your posts have not received any merit yet and you think they deserve merit.
- You are also posting in the Altcoin boards (but not limited to this)
- You are not breaking the forum rules: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0
- You are posting in English
How to apply:- Post links to your top 3 posts. I will also look into your post history and check random posts.
Things to avoid:- Do not PM me begging for merit!
- Do not call me "Sir", we're all informal on this forum so, no need for the politeness.
Disclaimer:- This is a self-moderated thread, so if something is out of line, your post will be deleted.
- I have a short amount of sMerits available so, I will be locking this thread when I run out. Will re-open when I get more.

On coinmarketcap not so many coins. There are also many good tokens that are in the ICO stage and are preparing for listing on the exchanges, but these are not on this site. Do you take this into consideration? Perhaps the software that you offer can be convenient.
No, it would only look on coinmarketcap since the coins listed there have a good level of confidence and they are normally listed on trustworthy exchanges.
|
|
|
I have an idea on creating a software program that would crawl the full list of coins on https://coinmarketcap.com/coins/views/all/ (~1000) and extract various altcoins based on different markers like market cap, supply, price, volume, minability etc. This way you would have a list of potential coins that could be worth investing in or at least narrow down the search when you're trying to look for new investment opportunities. Would you be interested in a service like this? Would you pay a small fee for something like this?

hello! i am no inderstanding what i do i have 0 merit?
I am sorry, you do not qualify yet. You need to have 9 merits to benefit from this service.

Theres no doubt it would improve conversation involvement and continuation by participants. however there is the problem that people over quote and dont edit or cut down the quotes they make. Also the quote system now doesnt discard the quotes within the persons post that you are replying to. So theres a danger you would get a notification for someone who didnt even address you especially.
So yea good idea but it would need to discard older quotes also unless the person goes basically specifically to that post to reply.
Yes, that's a good point. The last quoted post should be added to that notification list. Although, I wouldn't mind having this feature "as is" first and refining it later.

Still have some merits to send for this service

Since you also mentioned my thread, I can comment on it. Although I'm not a merit source (I'm not an old enough member here to be one), what I'm trying to do is bring more visibility to the people posting especially in the altcoin sections. These sections are very low in merit sources. Another reason is that I want to put my merits (I have just a few of them) to better use and select the most appropriate posts that would deserve merits. What's wrong with that?

I have looked though your posts and they look good, it's just going to be a matter of time until you rank up. The alt boards are very low in merit sources, I should know, I'm also mainly posting there... So, merit will be harder to get there. Too bad people are not realising the land of new opportunities has moved to alts and not BTC. Another suggestion would be to also post in review threads, this way you will increase your post visibility. You will find these threads in the Bitcoin/Marketplace/Services section of this forum. I also have a thread for awarding 1 merit to help people rank-up here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3195027.0 Be sure to give me a visit when you have 9 merits and I'll top you off. Yep sorry to say but you have been doing it all wrong. You need to start sucking up to people and you will receive merit in no time. That's how this forum works.
Unfortunately, this is also true but as well as gangs of friends (not only people with alts) that exchange merit between themselves on shit posts...

I'm sorry but you do not qualify. Maybe the rules are not clear enough: Right now, you have 1 merit and are ranked as Jr. Member, to qualify for this review service you need to have 9 merits (because you need 10 to be promoted to Member). Nonetheless, I have reviewed your post & your post history. Right now, you only have one line replies and some service threads where you try to sell things. You need to improve your posting quality by improving your English and by adding content that others find useful in order to receive merit.
