7901  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is it a good idea to have all BTC on one address on: January 19, 2015, 10:24:00 AM
Basically, no if you want to have more privacy and yes if you want to save the BTC securely in a offline computer. However, you may want to consider to review the source code of the wallet you are going to use and compile it yourself. This would ensure that you would be safe if you know what you are doing. If not, just choose a trusted and well known one. It is advisable to not reuse a address, create and broadcast a transaction then storing more Bitcoins in it. In some incidents, flawed RNGs can cause you to lose your coin even though that is rare with most desktop wallets. If the RNG used to generate "k" to create your transaction is not random enough, it can allow people to bruteforce your private key after a few transactions from the wallet. It is a fairly small security risk if you use well known wallet, example Bitcoin Core. If you are paranoid, just generate a new address after sending a transaction from the previous one and send all the coins to it.

7904  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cold storage - HACKED easily on: January 18, 2015, 03:45:46 PM
Your funds are not safe neither in "cold storage". Read:

https://www2.informatik.hu-berlin.de/~verbuech/klepto-ecdsa/klepto-ecdsa.pdf

or

http://www.coindesk.com/research-hackers-install-backdoor-bitcoin-cold-storage/

many of you said "cold storage is the best". well. it is not. that explains many hacks in Bitcoin which some of the bitcoiners considered to be very safe. Smiley

What's next? Mass withdrawals from Bitcoin. What can you do when you KNOW that your cold storage is exposed to be stolen? You must be stupid to keep your earnings there.

Only few people knew about this exploit. Now, any russian or ukrainian kid will try to hack the cold storages and guess what?! THEY WILL DO IT !    Grin

you should stop spreading fud i would of fallen for this if people didnt call you out on your bullshit.

So many sheeps here.

chill out, grandpa. this article is not for you. keep feeding the exchangers(so called shit/anonymous bitcoin brokers) with your money and stay calm Smiley

For anybody else, please re-read the article.

"Both Verbücheln and Pustogarov say that the most likely way for such an attack to be mounted would be through dedicated wallet services running proprietary software. Devices designed specifically for secure cold-storage of coins, for example, would be prime candidates for this sort of attack.

"Even if the manufacturer claims that it runs open-source code, how do you tell whether it is actually running what you compiled?" Verbücheln said."

For example : what is blockchain.info ? Smiley

Until then, keep "mehehe" (bitcoin to the shit) like the sheeps:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcE5aDTszrY     lol

Blockchain.info is not and will never be a offline wallet, it is just a online wallet with a bit more security features. Online wallets are never recommended for storing huge amount of BTC. You would be very dumb to buy a cold storage device from a manufacturer who have not opensourced their firmware and are not trusted. You can review the source code and compile it yourself. It is highly unlikely for most reputable cold storage hardware provider to do so as their reputation would be at risk.
7905  Economy / Gambling / Re: Primedice | The Most Popular Bitcoin Game | 1% Edge | Active Chat | Free BTC on: January 18, 2015, 02:47:06 PM
Features B+?

Primedice was known for the Achievements Faucet increase, the rest is trivial typical of other gambling sites.
So why the B+, maximum i give a C.

Most popular dice sites do not have the ability to use PVP to bet against other users. Most casinos also do not have optimization for mobile users, whereas primedice has a specially designed webpage for it.
7906  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: While doing sync on my wallet, my AV detected virus in the blockchain on: January 18, 2015, 02:43:59 PM
It is a false positive, a signature in the blockchain matches the signature in the virus database. Just whitelist the folder and continue, the 'virus' cannot do anything to harm your computer.
7907  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cold storage - HACKED easily on: January 18, 2015, 02:47:33 AM
Well, nothing is absolutely safe.

yeah you right. but we can minimalize the threat.
like by using antivirus and use good wallet.
A better solution would be to use a freshly wiped computer and not download anything suspicious since some viruses can go undetected. Good wallets are preferably opensourced, the best is Bitcoin Core even though it may take up some space.

What if your base os is compromised and you use a livecd whilst being offline to store the coins.....can this make you unsafe?

"Even if the manufacturer (https://bitcoin.org/) claims that it runs open-source code, how do you tell whether it is actually running what you compiled?" Verbücheln said.

in other words: MANY developers worldwide are working in their free time to a project, in this case, Bitcoin. That's why it's called OPEN SOURCE.

These developers can put anything they want IN the source code.

Verbücheln: ".... that some pieces of open-source code are so large and complex that even a dedicated community of developers may not detect a malicious addition."

This is pretty much impossible. I believe only selected, trusted and knowledgeable members are able to commit, they probably are reviewed by a lot of people before changes can be committed. It is not possible for anyone to just insert changes without the approval of core developers and those changes are usually fairly small.
7911  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: PinkPonzi.com | 130% return | auto payout | secure | fast on: January 17, 2015, 12:10:03 PM
The website is available for purchase based on godaddy. How are you going to setup a ponzi when you can't even take 0.1-0.2BTC to purchase the domain? And having 0 activity makes you look sketchy. You could just run away with the money at any moment.

Major loss for me!!! Came back to see 20 losses in a row!! Shocked -1.553 BTC! Cry
Anyone ever had this many consecutive losses?

Yes, it happens all the time. Variance will always kill you since you can't accurately predict the actual streak, sometimes you would get high win and low lose streak and vice versa. It will happen eventually, if you play long enough. I have seen doolgus say their highest lose steak at JD was 31 at 49.5%. There are really no strategy working for long term, even if the house edge is 0.

7914  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cold storage - HACKED easily on: January 17, 2015, 03:40:15 AM
The chances of a cold storage getting hacked is fairly low if you compile it yourself, use trusted wallet software's and don't download any suspicious software. Remember to review source code and download from the trusted source and you will be fine.
7915  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: need to make sure my bitcoin is safe on: January 17, 2015, 03:35:35 AM
Yes, you would need to turn on your internet and download the chain. This is not a dangerous method but it would be relatively time consuming.if you just want to verify your balance and private key is spendable, download mycelium app on a factory ready smartphone and use the cold storage features there. If your private key is correct, the address will show. But, if you are more paranoid, send a small amount of bitcoin to the address and send it back to a address which you control. This ensures that the private key is indeed functioning correctly.

You don't need to sync if you are just verifying the private key(s) work. All you have to do is import the private key and go to the receiving tab, this is where it will show your address. Then you can verify the amount of coins in that address by using one of the several available block explorers.

Downloading the blockchain on bitcoin core, is only necessary if you plan on sending Bitcoin from that address. Although, as soon as you turn on the internet you risk compromising the private key.

Downloading the Mycelium app on a factory ready phone could also be a bad choice. If that phone connects to the internet at any point, either through wifi or roaming then your keys could be compromised. Although, I'm not familar with Mycelium as I've never used it.

To verify your private key works with the associated address, you can simply import it using Bitcoin core on a offline computer/liveCD. You don't need the internet to verify your private key is working. There are also a few other ways, which include using pywallet for example.
Thanks for the correction, mycelium is open sourced and is already verified to be safe and have no vulnerabilities. Android devices won't be so vulnerable such that you will be hacked once you connect to the internet. The risk is fairly low, I haven't heard of anyone's private key getting compromised by using the cold storage feature.
7916  Other / Meta / Re: What does -ve mean? on: January 16, 2015, 03:17:26 PM
I've seen this quite a few times now and it seems it relates to negative rating? how is this related?
When people on your trust list gives the user a negative trust, it would turn red and will have a text under it. The rating should only be used for reference and do not ever assume a user can be trusted by the trust rating, unless they are well known.

Stunna & Crew,

After coming across yet another bot that steals coins via withdrawal, I'm curious how close we are to getting a more customizable 2FA?

Personally i wouldn't mind the option to set a PERMANENT wallet address to withdraw to, granted that should probably be an optional thing since ppl do lose wallets sometimes.
What if you set it and the wallet get compromised? Why not offer 2FA on withdrawals? It can be pretty secure already.

Thank you for operating this campaign with honesty, will remove signature as there are proven scam accusations against the site.
7920  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The SAFest WALLET? on: January 10, 2015, 06:50:21 AM
Safest wallet is definitely a hardware wallet which is opensourced and secure from virus attacks, for example, trezor. The disadvantage is that it is very expensive, $100 per. For normal uses, a paper wallet/offline raspberry pi would be secure enough if you sign transactions offline.

There are some cheaper hardware wallets now to compete with Trezor. For example, the ledger wallet is selling at a price of 29 Euros. Hopefully the price of hardware wallets could come further down when more and more competitors appear.
You could also buy a raspberry pi and make a offline wallet from it. You could still create transactions by signing transactions on it then broadcasting it using another online computer.  Raspberry pi is the cheapest.
