8361  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: General Advice to someone new on: August 07, 2014, 02:58:07 PM
I am new to Bitcoin's and looking to get into them.  What is the main advice you wish someone would have told you when you started with Bitcoins?

Avoid online wallets

Trust noone on this forum

Faucets are only a wast of time

Secure your computer

Don't install or execute anything untrusted
The trust no one on this forum is a bit exaggerated. Yes, you shouldn't trust all the people with neutral trust but there are a few very trusted people with high trust. Their account will not be likely to be bought. If in doubt, you can always use an escrow.
8362  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 51% problem still existant after all coins have been mined ? on: August 07, 2014, 02:49:38 PM
A new algorithm may be incompatible for ASICs. It isn't easy for developers to just make a fork and make all the users and miners to switch to a new client. It doesn't benefit those with big ASIC farms since all their hardware would be wasted.

And that is really bad? If the new algorithm is incompatible with asics, maybe many of the users (who are far from mining because of the dificulty and costs) will start to mine themselves for the stability and safety of the network...
Yes. For people who invested a lot of money into mining, they don't have any chances of getting ROI. If the new algorithm can be CPU mined effectively, botnet mining would resurface. Botnet mining are most probably stopped now since the difficulty is so high.
8363  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: USB Miners on: August 07, 2014, 12:12:47 PM
USB miners? when did this stop being useful?
USB miners have no cooling, therefore you can't put efficient ASIC chips there. Also, after so much more efficient ASICs came out, the difficulty skyrocketed and they are unprofitable. These are only for collectors and people who want to mine as a hobby but do not want a big and expensive ASIC which emits a lot of heat.
8364  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: GPU Mining. on: August 07, 2014, 11:02:51 AM
I think it will always be profitable, there are plenty of anti-ASIC coins.
Wrong concept. Even though those coins are ASIC proof, why can't people use their GPUs from mining BTC a few years ago to mine that alt coin? The difficulty would probably rise. You cannot predict if the price is going to crash. Those people with GPUs from mining Bitcoins year ago profit more than small miners.
8365  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: USB Miners on: August 07, 2014, 10:59:52 AM
i still got 10 running at home. they cant even cover my electricity cost daily.  Cheesy

Then why are you still running it?
Many people only wants to contribute to the network. They only take about a few dollars per month, many people just do it as their hobby. It is nice to see the lights blinking when they find a share.
8366  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cex.IO what can i do with GHS? on: August 07, 2014, 10:57:06 AM
Sell it to me @ 10% off
I don't think it would be profitable for you even at 10% off. Also, are you going to pay 0.0001 fees for a 0.0005 transaction? It doesn't seem logical.
You are wasting a lot for something that gives you satoshis for 0.0005.
8367  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: mining with smartphone on: August 07, 2014, 10:54:56 AM
How bout cloud mining? How does that work?

They host hardware for you and they either pay them for hosting or payout is deducted for electrical cost and maintainence costs. They are usually very over priced and they take high fees from your payout too. It is really hard to ROI.
8368  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: creating an exchange site on: August 07, 2014, 10:52:45 AM
Competition is fierce among exchanges.

For a new exchange, it will be hard to survive on low commission rate with no volume.
It depends on how reliable are them, how fast they respond to your support ticket, features and security. In order for an exchange to be successful, they must be able to offer all of the above. They can easily beat old exchanges in terms of volume if you offer things better than them.
8369  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is My Rig good for Mining? on: August 06, 2014, 11:28:49 PM
Sell the rig for $30 and buy 0.05BTC with that - that's more than the hardware could ever mine.

I think the rig worth much more then $30 just not worth for mining..

Well I live in the Los Angeles area and if I asked more than $30 for that rig it wouldn't even get a lowball offer.  Obviously the value will vary based on region.  If the OP doesn't need the machine best bet would to sell it and buy BTC directly given the current fiat price drop.

If sold only as a mining rig, sure, but this is a good PC which gamers would pay a few hundred dollars for.

Even games need a good GPU, the current GPU is too bad, it is even worse than the integrated GPU of a new I5 or I7
I don't think this GPU can be compared integrated graphics. Using integrated graphics cannot run most of the games and needs to be at the lowest settings. I believe that GPU and integrated graphics is at the same level of performance.

Very cool gadget! Will keep using it in the future.

How do u use ? They dont support DiceBitcoin. Only PrimeDice here Wink

Well, it works for me Wink Maybe you made a mistake trying it out!
They support any kind of signature. The only difference is price. You have to custom specify your price per post as the default is PD's rate. They most likely wouldn't care what signature are you using.
8371  Other / Meta / Re: I dont understand the activity thing on: August 06, 2014, 04:30:53 PM
What is activity?

    Activity = min(time * 14, posts)
    Increase activity by posting.
Activity is updated every 30 minutes.
Maximum of 14 activity every 2 weeks.

Does the 14 day increments happen starting by the time you register?

Like 22 july, 05 august, 20 august, 3 september... etc

You can make 14 posts inside these 14 day increments, and if you make more than 14 posts then the activity doesn't go up right?

if I make like 100 posts, will the activity go out automatically every 14 days until these 100 posts are divided in the 14 day increments?

and btw my activity just went up now

PS: you have to answer to the questions, i dont understand maths im retarded

Basically you need to post at least once in two weeks to get your activity up by 14.

Although that is only if you have accumulated uncredited posts in the weeks before (when you posted more than 14 times in a two-weeks period).

Otherwise, if I'm not mistaken, posting once in two weeks would only make the activity go higher by one point.
Posting after the new period starts would give you 14 extra activity point. Using one would leave you with 13 which you can either accumulate or post a lot of post and your activity would go up. I believe what he is trying to say is that he needs to post once per two weeks to accumulate 13 extra activity points.
8372  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 51% problem still existant after all coins have been mined ? on: August 06, 2014, 04:27:11 PM
Someday all Bitcoins will have been mined.

Is mining then still necessary ?

And is the 51% problem still in existance ?

Actually, it is easiest to 51% attack after all bitcoins have been mined due to the decrease in difficulty...
Difficulty may not decrease since no new coins are released to the trading market. There would be much more demands. Miners can still earn from transaction fees which is probably around $10-100. I don't think much people would stop mining since even advanced ASICs would have came out. If everyone stops mining, many would turn on their machine again to profit pushing the difficulty up.

Since this will be in so many years, I think it's safe to say that the developpers will find a way to adapt so 51% attacks are not a concern.

A new algorithm perhaps?
A new algorithm may be incompatible for ASICs. It isn't easy for developers to just make a fork and make all the users and miners to switch to a new client. It doesn't benefit those with big ASIC farms since all their hardware would be wasted.

Enrollment List will be updated every month?

There is no longer an enrollment list, Stunna keeps a spreadsheet of current users in the campaign. As long as you filled out the enrollment form you're good to go.
There is still an enrollment list. It is rarely updated however. It is useful for members to check if they are enrolled and not wasting their time here. Errors cannot be prevented so many people still need Stunna to confirm it.
8374  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: mining with smartphone on: August 06, 2014, 04:21:33 PM
if you invest in mining equipment it would take like 60-90 days to make roi
probably even longer if they even ship. The difficulty increase is one of the factors to your ROI, so is electrical cost. Unless you have electrical cost, it isn't profitable. The hardware might be faulty and you would have to send it back for servicing. Therefore, it is really really risky.
8375  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: newbie question physical bitcoins on: August 06, 2014, 01:20:28 PM
physical bitcoins doesn't have any value. Physical bitcoins just for collection. Why are you using bitcoin if you make it to physical thing? It makes bitcoin same as fiat.
They have bitcoin value if there are loaded BTC inside. To redeem those BTC, the user can just tear off the hologram and redeem it. Physical Bitcoin are usually just for display purposes, Newspaper and magazine can't represent BTC well without physical things and pictures. Redeemed Physical Bitcoin can be resold again, for collectors usually.

what do I have to do if I enrolled as a member and was just upgraded to full member?

Should I immidiatly get the better signature?

Do I need to re-enroll and choose full member as my status?
Change the signature and do nothing. You don't have to re-enroll. During enrollment, you do not specify your rank.
Ah okay.

I just requested payout for the last period, should I wait until I get paid?
Does Stunna automatically know when I was upgraded?
I'm not sure if its true but some people said that if you have changed your signature to full member, you would be paid as full member rate. Stunna only calculates your payout from rank and posts. He doesn't know when you are upgraded and I don't think he wants to know when you are upgraded as long as you submit the correct number of posts and use the correct signature.
8377  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help me to make the right desicion on: August 06, 2014, 01:08:18 PM
Coinbase is a shared wallet service which does not allow you to access your bitcoin directly as you do not have the private key. It is a hassle if they experience downtime when you need access to the coin. Blockchain.info on the otherhand, allows you to control your private key yourself by sending you a copy of it. You do not need to be afraid of downtimes since the private key will always be in your control. Blockchain.info is generally very safe with 2 factor authentication. Anyone can bruteforce your coinbase account with your email but not Blockchain.info since they need a long string of letters and numbers to access your account.
8378  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: mining with smartphone on: August 06, 2014, 01:04:32 PM
You can mine with a phone. However, note that phones do not have even a fan cooling. They overheat very very easily. The speed is smaller than a desktop CPU with even better cooling. There is a very high chance your phone would die very soon without cooling. The best is to buy ASICs or custom build PC for it.

8380  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Which pool will yield the most bitcoins? on: August 06, 2014, 12:17:49 PM
Find a pool that has no fee is the best.

So a pool that has no fees and 2% orphan rate, 1% reject rate and 0.5% downtime is better than a pool that has a 2% fee, 0.1% orphan, 0.1% reject and no downtime?

Penny wise, pound foolish

So a pool that has no fee, 0% orphan rate, 0% reject rate and 0% downtime is the best... Do we have such pool?
0% downtime is nearly impossible. Even google can be down for sometime a few time a year. Pools which have 99%++ uptime is recommended. If the pool is down, you could always switch to a backup pool.
