801  Other / Politics & Society / Re: BERNIE SANDERS, WEIRDO IN CHIEF on: August 15, 2015, 04:58:21 AM
So what is the secret or motivation to his success?

It's weird that the top candidates from each party represent such drastic extremes of each party's ideals. Maybe we're headed to a shift in what these parties stand for. It wouldn't be the first time, it's just been a long time.

Republicans: Trying to add more laws to restrict peoples freedoms - no to same sex marriage, no to immigration, no to smoking pot - despite the obvious business and economic benefits that these freedoms bring. Calling themselves the Grand Old Party, they're the younger party of the two in the US.

Democrats: Were first called Republicans! (Need I say more?) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Party_(United_States)

P.S. To Wil, anyone who uses the handle "Merica" in ANY THING should be considered someone who hates America and it's people. "Merica", "Murica" are but very offensive terms used to make fun of "red neck, NASCAR lovin, folks from the South"...it's not hip, it's not clever, it's an insult.
802  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you didn't get paid for your signature, would you still care about Bitcoin? on: August 15, 2015, 04:28:42 AM
Is anyone really pathetic enough to be "interested in bitcoin" for like 10 dollars a week? Seriously? That sounds really lame.

My sign campaign ended last week, but I'm still here, and my sig is still here (too lazy to remove it).

But if you were to change your question to being in it for the money, I would say yes. I'm not a libertarian, I fundamentally don't care if bitcoin succeeds or not. But I hope that I could make a good return from it succeeding, therefore I support it.

You lost me at "for like 10 dollars a week", but what does Libertarian have to do with Bitcoin?

There's a few people calling my post or poll a stupid question, but you all should be thanking me! I gave you all a reason to add one more constructive post to your count, tips are appreciated - see my profile for my BTC address.
803  Bitcoin / Mining / "the 21 companies that control Bitcoin" on: August 14, 2015, 04:53:32 AM
http://www.businessinsider.com/bitcoin-pools-miners-ranked-2015-7

Business Insider ranks the 21 largest mining companies/operations claiming that these companies control Bitcoin. They also say that the top 3, if they were to combine operations, would control 51% of the [blockchain] network.

Any surprises here? I know the top dogs probably change some, but is this list generally accurate?
804  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What are the largest exchanges that purchases from US Bank accounts? on: August 14, 2015, 04:02:21 AM
Hey, here's a link of four options for you (of course Coinbase is at the top of the list).

http://www.plusbitcoin.net/buy-bitcoins-with-bank-account/

They recommend Bitstamp, CEX.io, and Celery.

Beyond Coinbase, I'd choose Circle - it's new, reputable, and worthy of your business!

(Plus a friend of a friend of mine is a founder...ha)
805  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you didn't get paid for your signature, would you still care about Bitcoin? on: August 13, 2015, 08:05:54 PM

We <Bitcoiners> sound like freaks and nerds, and I can talk freely here about something I am seriously hooked on like a drug. I think my kids will suffer more, if they take the signature campaigns away. ^joke^

Signature campaigns help to fund beginner Bitcoiner's and also help them to learn more and keep them committed to
the cause. If this forum takes this away from them, they will move to other forums where it's allowed. If they are only here for the money, they will waste their time and they will eventually spam and get modded and banned.  Tongue

Yeah, I agree with you. Some one else wrote @so people are just here for the signature campaigns?" Obviously that's not the case going by all the responses here.

I'm glad that the majority of you would be here regardless of the signature campaigns. I hope those that admit to posting more frequently due to pay are doing so constructively. And most important, I hope this helps changed one of the negative opinion about those that engage in a signature campaign. We're party if this community and we have genuine interest in the success of the Bitcoin Project.
806  Economy / Economics / Re: Americans Flocking to China on: August 13, 2015, 04:15:09 AM
I think the allure of moving to China may diminish with the Goverbmebt devaluing their currency and making spending power of local money go a shorter and shorter distance. Also, most of these expats are flocking to the cities...the cities can only support the weight of a limited number of people. Overcrowding will be an awful consequence.
807  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Faucets - how much do those sites make in ad revenue? on: August 13, 2015, 04:10:19 AM
Thanks for your response. Mind if I ask a few more questions?

So the site owner can choose if they want to get paid per ad click or page views? And that it can pay from $0.50 to a few dollars per day.

IF we use freebitco.in as an example...and if that site uses the payment per 1000 page views model, the minimum amount paid out from the faucet for 1000 page views is about $1.85 (assuming a $265 bitcoin price AND that the minimum faucet payout is 700 satoshi). So that site needs to get more than $1.85 or 1,000 times the minimum faucet payout to potentially break even on their venture.

What's the average pay rate for the 1,000 page views pay model?

Dollars a day doesn't seem worth it. And maybe this was your point...giving me enough info to satisfy my question and keep me concluding that it's not worth my time.

It´s worth the time and money if you do it right, freebitco.in has a lot of other advertising ways like you can buy an ad on their webpage, they also get paid by google or depending on what company they decided to use, google pays a lot more for clicks than views, obviously they get a lot of money and they are profiting from it, they have a dice game as well so people lose more money there.

Why does Google pay then money? Is Googke sourcing/directing the advertisers to their site?

Anyone have any reliable numbers? "A lot" is entertaining but subject to interpretation. Any fact out there?

Possum577

I was here before I got into the Signature Campaign.  And I'll be here afterwards should it come to that.

Mostly I am here to learn, ask questions to those who may know the answers, and offer my own opinions.  bitcointalk is a nice little place to exchange interesting information about an important technology.  There are also some interesting threads I see in "Economic", some views I do not see even at Zero Hedge and similar.

And Reddit just doesn't do anything for me.

Thanks. I love the Economic forum and agree that Reddit is distracting. I can't read endless pages that look like code. That formatting was probably intentionally to keep some people off the site...ha
809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you didn't get paid for your signature, would you still care about Bitcoin? on: August 13, 2015, 03:35:56 AM
This is definitely a unusual poll and is in the wrong section. I guess that a lot of people are posting just for the money.
I was posting here months before I joined my first campaign. A month or two after joining I had invested in a mining operation that turned out great (3 months before the spike). I would say that the signature campaigns did nothing other than increase my contributions towards other members and the forum itself.

My involvement with Bitcoin has no correlation with the campaign(s).

Which forum would be more appropriate?

And everyone posts for a few months before joining a signature campaign, it takes that long to rank up and to become aware that the opportunity even exists!

I'm glad you've had a positive contribution. Thanks for your vote.
810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you didn't get paid for your signature, would you still care about Bitcoin? on: August 13, 2015, 03:30:27 AM
Ok, Signature Campaigners, this one is for you - how much is the fact that you can get paid in bitcoin for posting on this forum the biggest factor that keeps you involved in bitcoin?

"Free" money, right? (almost...we do give up our time.) I can earn some bitcoin without having to risk my own money, right? What have I got to lose?

How many of you have thought these sentiments and can honestly admit that if this opportunity for earning didn't exist you would not care about bitcoin?

Remember, the poll is anonymous...

well even if there is no signature campaign i still care about bitcoin, there are other ways or opportunities to earn bitcoins here aside from the signature campaign.

You're the second post in this thread, you don't need to quote me (the OP) in your response. It's implied.

I think may have asked the wrong question. Perhaps a better question would be how many of you would care about BitcoinTalk Forum without paid signatures?

Thanks for the honest replies already!
811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fiat Wallets: The Key to Bitcoin Going Mainstream? on: August 12, 2015, 09:46:29 PM

This article just blew my mind. Fiat wallets are THE THING that will transform the banking industry for good. Right now the only alternative to keeping wealth out of a bank is inconvenient, clumsy, and risky...who wants to keep significant amounts of cash at home?

A blockchain based wallet for fiat would provide us all an alternative to banks which would (eventually) force them to sit on the same side of the table as their customers, to eliminate hefty fees, to provide better rates for INTEREST!

Oh man, the possibilities are so grand. I can't wait for this to become reality.

This is really clever but unfortunately we can't know what the container of a hash has so we don't know what did you said. What was the word that generated this hash?

It's sha256 of BITCOIN

In a single word? Brilliant.

(as was the post I quoted)

FOR GOD SAKES SEND THIS GIRL SOME BTC!
17jJ1WAJwqizCNLC6p2KadeRqPYhVispzt

Bitcoinmineey just came up with the latest way to beg for money! Put a BTC address on a hot chick and watch the bits come in!

As anyone here made a "deposit" on her backside yet?

If so, announce yourself here...let's see if we can give her enough coin to lose her clothes.

(PS: tips for this idea are welcome, see my profile)
814  Economy / Economics / Re: Why do you use Bitcoin? A report to determine it's competitive advantages. on: August 12, 2015, 09:17:41 PM
Good evening fellow Bitcoiners,

What are your thoughts about it?

Thanks Smiley

Thanks for setting this up, i've responded to the poll.

My thoughts are simple, once you finish your research paper could you please post it somewhere in this forum for us all to read? We give you our thoughts, our ideas, our votes, and our time and it's very fair for us to expect to see the analysis and conclusions you make from the data we've provided.

Please share with us your conclusions so the entire community can benefit from your work (and our contribution)!

Thanks Smiley

How much are you charging for you reports?

How frequently do you publish?

And what's your track record?

I'm not clicking on that link until you answer these questions (and no one else should either!) Thanks.
816  Economy / Economics / Re: New Item from World's Most Growlingest Bear Jim Willie on: August 12, 2015, 06:05:26 AM
...

Lately Jim Willie has been doing more videos/audios than his (free) written reports, but yesterday he put up an article:

http://news.goldseek.com/GoldenJackass/1439151178.php

Dr. Willie is about as bearish as they come.  He likes gold (to $10,000 / toz), but does NOT follow Bitcoin.  I once offered to pay for a subscription with BTC, but he was not interested.

His "Hat Trick Letter" is typically 30 + pages long and comes out every month or so.  He now lives far away from the US .gov whom he intensely dislikes.

A tad on the conspiratorial side...

What does this have to do with bitcoin? Is your point really that he doesn't follow Bitcoin? Please explain...

Where can we get more background on the pros and cons of each option?

I'm not willing to vote until i have more information - can you point me (and I'm sure others) in the right direction to get more information?

Thanks.
819  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best way to send someone you know $400 bucks inside USA let's see if BTC works? on: August 12, 2015, 05:57:30 AM

Paypal

If sender sends form their bank it is zero, person then can get instantly at ATM usually 4 bucks fee 3 to atm and 1 to pp

First, why does the person need to cash in their paypal balance? A ton of stores/businesses accept paypal for transactions!

Second, why the assumption that these people must convert the bitcoin to fiat? Shouldn't they embrace the ability to buy things with bitcoin rather than give in and exchange in for fiat (the easy way out!)

Third, you forgot Venmo, which is one of the latest mobile payment companies in the US. It allows people to exchange money instantly (exactly like PayPal) with no fees and adds a social media element with a feed of transactions so you can see transactions your friends made and leave funny comments and emoticons.

If Venmo accepted bitcoin, we'd be all set!

820  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where do you think is the world’s bitcoin center? on: August 12, 2015, 05:53:17 AM
Currently, Arnhem in The Netherlands is the Bitcoin Capital in the world.

This is interesting, do you have any understanding of how adoption and use became so high? It's great to see that map with so many places that accept bitcoin and with such variety - grocery stores, cafes, shops - really impressive! Do you live in this area?

I think a bitcoin capital needs to embrace its use but also drive innovation and business that's pushing the use further down the road. For me, Silicon Valley (the original center of technology) is a location that needs to be considered as a center or hub of activity. But I'll concede that Bitcoin may still be too new to have any single location to call "home".
