881  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How does the Chinese name ★极特币★ sound for DigiByte? on: October 09, 2014, 08:00:14 AM
What do you think of the Chinese name 极特币 for DigiByte? We will be compiling this translation into our upcoming wallet update. Any feedback from native Chinese speakers would be much appreciated!

882  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] ✈ ✔ MultiAlgo v3.0.1 officially released! Mandatory Update! on: October 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM
Bittrex Error
Code:
Warning: The network does not appear to fully agree! Some miners appear to be experiencing issues"

So, what do you think? Are we going to come to the conclusion in the end that this is normal and desirable program behavior that gives us early warning alerts as to the possibility of a fork (a just in case type of thing, even if it isn't even remotely likely at all) and we just need to be patient, automatically cancel payments for a couple of minutes, and then move on? That's a lot better than the alternative that the coding prevents against, isn't it?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=284000.0
http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/30262/what-does-safe-mode-warning-the-network-does-not-appear-to-fully-agree-some
https://github.com/slickage/baron/issues/18

And if BTC still hasn't come up with an improved, even better, whiter, faster, bigger, beyond all worldly expectations that suspend the basic laws of physics . . .

I'd be requesting all kinds of data from Bittrex, and doing my best not to let them distract me too much from all the more important things I have on my agenda.  Wink

HR,

Thanks for the feedback! It does appear something in their internal system is flagging that warning and automatically shutting the wallet down. It also appears their block chain database might be corrupted. If they could re-download & re-index the DigiByte blockchain the issue should be resolved as this issue is isolated.

We have been working closely with native Chinese speakers and we have arrived at the name of "极特币' for DigiByte! We also have started porting updates to v3.0.2 as well as the translation. Any feedback on the name is much appreciated!

We also have created a new build environment that will allow us to build all three OS binaries simultaneously.

v3.0.2 code: https://github.com/digibyte/DigiByteProject/tree/3.0.2

We ask that when people encounter an error please add it to the issue que here on github:https://github.com/digibyte/DigiByteProject/issues

Still disabled on my end.

YC

Bittrex wallet still looks disabled.

Let's see what happens.

YC

Bittrex looks good. The volume has exceeded the requirement to not get delisted. Have you folks been using it?

YC

looks ok now

This is very frustrating for us. No other exchange is reporting any issues. We have not been experiencing this issue on any of our servers. We are still working to isolate why this happening. Does anyone have any specifics thoughts on this?

Also, we would like to announce a bug bounty for code solutions! If you have a solution to some of the problems we are seeing with the DigiByte we would like to send you some DigiBytes! Please PM us with your details!

The more people we can get on this the quicker we can roll out an update!

Known Issues:
Bittrex Error
Code:
Warning: The network does not appear to fully agree! Some miners appear to be experiencing issues"

Mining Pool RPC Send to Many

Coinmaturity Issue

As stated before, the wallets work, but we are definitely planning an update with all these fixes.

With the difficulty on Mintpal and Bittrex, does that CEX.io and Cryptsy as the two viable options for DGB? What has everyone's experience been with CEX.IO?

YC

Yes, we would like to hear some more feedback on CEX.io as well. We have executed a few trades and everything as worked well so far.
886  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] ✈ ✔ MultiAlgo v3.0.1 officially released! Mandatory Update! on: October 07, 2014, 08:08:25 AM
Mintpal is currently experiencing issues far beyond DGB. According to twitter DGB will be listed again as soon as they fix other issues and get the time to re add it to the new exchange.

Yes, it appears they are experiencing issues across the board. In the mean time we have been very pleased with CEX.io. They seem to have a robust exchange and have been very selective about the coins they add instead of adding pump & dumps for easy transaction fees like most exchanges.

DGB active on Bittrex, was about time  Undecided
Awesome! This is great to hear!

I would have expected you to have been the first to know that and publish it here?
You were working with them to solve it right?

In my Bittrex account it still says:  "Wallet offline - pending update".

When will the new wallet version be available? You mentioned long time ago, and after that silence.
Yes, we have been in contact with the Bittrex team. We noticed the post on here before seeing it on the site or their message. This is why we are currently working to bring a social media manager on board. We are looking at several software solutions as well to aid them when it comes to keeping up with DigiByte related messages on about twenty accounts now. Our goal is to stream line everything to kick off a much larger marketing campaign.

As for the wallet, we are currently working to hire some very experienced C++ developers to assist us in taking things to the next level. We have been primarily focusing on those two things these last few days so we have not done as much work on the wallet as we had hoped. As it stands the wallet is functional and no other exchange but BitTrex has reported an issue. The problem is fixed simply by running "digibyted -reindex."  This also happens  occasionally with Bitcoin wallets on a server.

We have also been working on updating the Android wallet. It has proven to be rather challenging and much more work than we anticipated. Long story short we are not short on development work. If anyone has experience with C++, iOS or Android development and is looking for some work. Please PM us!

LOL! Digibyte disabled on Bittrex for nearly two weeks. Blockchain issues, pending update...
Now I see:

This market is in danger of de-listing due to low trade volume and lack of user interest. It may be removed on October 10th unless the average daily trade volume for the last 7 days exceeds 0.1 BTC.

Strange logic...

troll bittrex XD
The issue they are experiencing is simply fixed by restarting the wallet with "digibyted -reindex". We have contacted them once again to have them restart their wallet. Even the Bitcoin client has this problem from time to time. No other exchange has reported this issue.

Has anyone tried trading on CEX.io yet?  https://cex.io/

That's a serious question. The common people are still so unaware that they consider bitcoin "the mysterious new thing" and can't eeven fathom the existence of "altcoins".

If dgb wants to shine as b2b coin (sector where bitcoin has yet to appear) I don't think we should point "what we provide more than the other cons" but what we provide that could push enterprises to use it.

However, as the ,enemy ,of ,punctuation troll mentioned, we really need to get things together, with current market capital and trading volume it's simply unthinkable to perform large transactions.

Exactly. All I am saying is how can we take feedback like this and address it with DGB. Obviously, we are not using anonymity, but any further enhancements could bode well when DGB picks up a lot of commercial adoption.

“The customers we’re talking about aren’t trying to be anonymous, they’re willing to be known, so bitcoin technology is key and you can add to it or you could build a similar technology where there’s enough attribution where people feel comfortable that this is nothing to do with terrorism or any type of money laundering.”

That's the key. I've been saying it for a long time now. People want accountability when it comes to dealing with their money - they want 'receipts' with their names on them - and, if you're going to attempt to offer them an "alternative", it has got to conform to what they expect for their "money".

This is some great feedback! We agree we need to improve volume, liquidity & to carve out a market sector of our own. This is at the for front of what we are working toward right now. There are some very exciting things happening in the background as we speak to help make these things happen! Smiley

Hi Digibyte community!

I have been interested in Digibyte for a number of weeks now and see you have a dedicated team behind the scenes and a great little positive community that I just had to jump on-board!

I was wondering Digibyte, your future targets up until New Year, the price you believe is possible by New Year and the future objectives at the start of 2015!

I look forward to hearing from you!

To Mars Digibyte! No time for the moon!
Welcome to the DigiByte community!

We are working very hard on several things as we speak. We currently working to bring several new members of the DigiByte team up to speak. Including some very talented & experienced programmers.

As for the price, we have given up on making predictions. We are focusing on building a very solid, reliable base to build the future of DigiByte upon! We have a very good feeling about where DigiByte is headed over the next six months! Smiley

Bill Gates: Bitcoin Highlights the Utility of Digital Money
Pete Rizzo (@pete_rizzo_) | Published on October 2, 2014 at 23:03 BST

During an interview on Bloomberg TV‘s “Street Smart” today, Bill Gates responded to new questions about bitcoin and its potential to bring innovation to the payments industry.

The technology advisor at Microsoft, founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and recently crowned richest man in the world, in turn, provided short and somewhat muddled responses, though Gates addressed bitcoin more specifically than he has in the past.

Calling bitcoin “exciting” because of its ability to provide a relatively low-cost transaction network, Gates told Bloomberg:

“Bitcoin is better than currency in that you don’t have to be physically in the same place, and of course for large transactions currency can get pretty inconvenient.”

However, while seemingly positive, Gates went on to suggest that though he believes the world needs lower-cost payments solutions, bitcoin is perhaps not the best example of how the market should look to provide this solution.

Gates suggested that bitcoin may not appeal to the mass market due to its relative anonymity, as well as its associations with terrorism and money laundering.

He added:

“The customers we’re talking about aren’t trying to be anonymous, they’re willing to be known, so bitcoin technology is key and you can add to it or you could build a similar technology where there’s enough attribution where people feel comfortable that this is nothing to do with terrorism or any type of money laundering.”

The interview took place at Sibos 2014, a banking and financial conference held in Boston, where Gates also addressed the challenges facing the financial industry and the underbanked.

Notably, the first day of the event was dedicated in part to highlighting developments in the digital currency industry, with representatives from Circle, Ethereum and Ripple Labs.

Evolution in thought

Though brief, the statements mark an evolution in Gates’ public statements on bitcoin.

This February, the noted technologist and philanthropist participated in an Ask Me Anything on the social network Reddit where he was asked for his thoughts on bitcoin by multiple users.

At the time, Gates largely sidestepped the issue, choosing instead to focus his praise on digital money networks like Kenya’s centralized mobile service, M-Pesa.

Gates addressed bitcoin only once, saying:

“The foundation is involved in digital money, but unlike bitcoin it would not be anonymous digital money.”

The current version of the wallet appears to have significant problems sending transactions.

Please have a dev contact me to resolve these issues.
We are very aware of these issues. We are working on fixing as well as updating several things all in one update. We will send you a PM to get some details. Thank you for posting!

How much DGB do we need?  and because it's a cross give away how much doge?  I have some reserved DGB for give aways etc. And will buy some doge to support.
Maybe we should start advertising on Facebook&twitter  about the give away?

@Digibyte, Is there any update we could expect in a few days so we could use the give away to get more attention?

I myself am willing to put some 5-10k doge and 10-20k digibyte for a start. Of course I can go further than that, but my objective is that we give a small tip (50 doge, 100 digi) to at least the first 100-200 people.
Most giveaways on dogecoin subreddit give somewhere between 10 and 100 doge so I suppose it's a decent amount.

If you add a similar amount it'd be great to have two (or more) tippers, it sure helps lighting things up! But I'm not sure we should try  to hand out a really large amount, giveaways are about being nice, not "buying" people (ok we're still talking cents but tips always look bigger than they are Tongue).

Digibyte is already popular among shibes and they love giveaways, so IMO to publicize the giveaway for them is probably an overkill (I'm sure they'll come here in the hundreds). It's not an overkill to look for digibyte fellows, though, because we are lacking here Sad I mean having a dozen digibyters and a hundred shibes coming to say hello if fine, but if we're 3 it's a bit of a letdown!

Well let's do this, I'll make another post on the subreddit, outlining my own "plan" a bit better, and asking when how and if you (I mean any digibyte fellow) wish to contribute. You can answer here too but it makes things a bit messier, if you can drop on the reddit post it'd be nicer, I'm not sure who's who as I suppose some of you here posted on reddit too, with a different nickname. I suppose many of you are a bit perplex about my idea I hope some more details will clarify things (ofc everything is up for discussion!).

PS: I noticed there's a tad more activity now on the subreddit, which makes me happy Cheesy

oh BTW I'm assuming @DigiByte dev's quite busy these days, but there's an unaddressed pull request here https://github.com/digibyte/DigiByteProject/pull/15 (it's not mine and I didn't test it, just pointing it out)
This is awesome to see the community rallying together! We are working hard on numerous things as we speak. We definitely would contribute some DGB toward a giveaway!

Thanks for pointing out the merge request! We are doing some analysis on the code base to see how we can improve it & fix some of the issues we are seeing. It is much better to package several updates in a new wallet release than to release several wallet updates back to back.

We are currently working to bring on new members to the core DigiByte & DigiPay team & getting them up to speed (they are from outside the crypto world). We have an exchange in alpha right now and we have several other very exciting things we will be announcing in the coming weeks. We are working on getting the Android, IOS & Electrum wallets finished as well as stamping out the BitTrex issue, the RPC sendtomany problem and the coin maturity issue (all related).

We want to begin building momentum! Lets keep the awesome conversations we have been seeing about various topics going! You guys rock!

Buying and selling is impossible at Bittrex for over a week now... bad thing for DGB
Trading is still possible. We ourselves have traded a bit on there the past couple days.

We are still working on diagnosing exactly what the issue is with the BitTrex wallet. They are the only exchange that seems to be experiencing this issue.

Unfortunately we must announce that the company we were working with (LiveChains UK) has suddenly shut off the DigiHash.co pool we were paying them to produce as well as the old Love2Hash pool.  They appear to have completely gone out of business overnight. http://portal.livechains.net/index.php

They have issued as a refund for part of our expenses.

We never had access to those servers the past few weeks so it appears we may have lost some coins on their end. If anyone mined on the Love2Hash pool and has not been paid out please PM us (we were still working with them to get the pool payout functionality completed). It is sad to see a company go out of business like this. We are working on making other arrangements for the DigiHash pool.

DigiByte is disabled again on Bittrex. Is the dev team in contact with Bittrex to help them solve their problem and get DGB activated asap?
It is in the best interests of DigiByte to be activated on Bittrex again soonest possible.

Our wallets keep going into safe mode ... Anyone know whats going on?

Thanks,
richie

richie is working for Bittrex and is asking in this thread for advice. Have you contacted him?
Yes we have contacted him. We are working on sorting the issue out. Smiley
