9281  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Legacy vs segwit on: April 09, 2020, 11:46:37 AM
If your concern is security of your Bitcoin, then what you should do is choosing good wallet. Hardware wallet (such as Ledger Nano S and Trezor One) is best choice if you could afford them, you just need to backup the mnemonic phrase (sometimes also called recovery phrase or seed phrase) and store the backup on secure location.

Agree. Even so, it is better to use a Segwit address in almost every situation.

I don't have funds in Legacy addresses anymore.

The only downside of segwit addresses is that they do not allow to sign messages. Only Electrum does, and its signature is not recognized by Bitcoin Core.
9282  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Experience on: April 09, 2020, 11:43:01 AM
The Nano X has a few improvements, but I wouldn't call any of them essential improvements.  As long as the S is compatible with all your coins and has enough room for all the associated apps, that's really all you'll ever need.

Personally, I don't even see that extra room for apps an advantage. As installing/uninstalling apps is pretty fast and easy. I can do uninstall/install my whole life to save 150 usd lol

Hardware wallets are important for me due to their security, which is the same in Nano X and Nano S.

Even if the OP did indeed have two accounts registered in this specific campaign, no rule violations occurred.  Merely having an alt is no reason to get red-tagged.

I think that having two alts in the same campaign, when rules of the campaign clearly state that this is not allowed, should be red tagged.

If someone does that, he is clearly trying to cheat the campaign, this is not an honest person. So this would be a justified red tag, because trading with a dishonest person is high-risk of losing money situation.

However, as I said, this doesn't look to be the case here.
9284  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: android 3.3.8 problem on: April 08, 2020, 07:32:58 PM
Did you maybe restart the wallet during wallet creation?

First of all, is the phone rooted or not? There are several tools that lets you examine the phone file system, but in order to be able to examine app data you might need to root it. What version of android is it and what phone model?

The only thing you should NOT do is re installing another version. A very useful tool to clone the phone data is Disk Drill from celeverfiles

This is all wrong.

it is watch only because the wallet doesn't hold the private keys. It wasn't created properly.

Watch-only wallets are walelts which hold only public addresses.

Between books and courses which should I focus more on?

I would always focus on books, no matter the subject.

Reading a book is like talking to the author. Well not really talking, but listening. Antonopoulos is a great person, listen to him is amazing.

Watch his youtube videos in his YouTube channel as well.

9287  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Whitepaper- a MUST read for all and a little merit giveaway on: April 08, 2020, 05:30:57 PM
Certainly a must read
Satoshi explains everything in the whitepaper, wallets, nodes  pow...

I read it several times already  and I always learn more each time I read.

I made a quick summary on pow based on the whitepaper,  take a read later

i cannot find the 870 amount, there are over 100 posts, which one is it?

It was distributed among those addresses he mentioned in the first post.

870bitcoin wasn't all that money in that time, back in 2014. It was a pretty high amount of money, but not as near as it is today. Anyway, that was a very honest act from joehoe

What are the most important things to consider before pursuing a career in blockchain and cryptography development industry?

Welcome to the forum. I joined for the same reasons about 2years and a half ago.

I suggest that you begin with the free book Mastering Bitcoin, by Andreas Antonopoulos.

You can read it for free at github.

There are many tutorials in the web about how to create a new wallet in Electrum. You might have done something wrong.

This is a tutorial for the the android version, pretty much straight forward:

Never show your Seed to anyone. Hide it safe, store it in a PAPER.

9291  Economy / Reputation / Re: Appeal to review why I was given a negative trust on: April 08, 2020, 01:53:14 PM
I am not  defending fiulpro.

The whole thing is very complicated, too many details in his story. I would remove him from the campaign as well if I were the manager.

But this user might be a complete newbie and not a scammer. Maybe he is really holding his btc in that custodial wallet Zebpay and he doesn't understand anything about how bitcoin works.

Please do not upload any documents to the forum and do not send them to anybody random asking you to do so anywhere. This is a classic privacy mistake people do trying to defend themselves here.

I agree. In my opinion you shouldn't even send any documents to anyone, even the campaign manager.

My suggestion to fiulpro: Study about bitcoin, understand how it works, and come back to the forum. Try to be useful here and you will get some earning from signatures campaigns.

I think CryptopreneurBrainboss should really remove him from the campaign, as a newbie like that should not represent any brand. Additionally, I would also remove the red trust, and he looks harmless imo. Just move it to neutral. My 2 cents.

9293  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Class-action lawsuits filed against 11 Bitcoin/cryptocurrency companies on: April 07, 2020, 01:26:45 PM
Quote
They all allege that the token issuers took advantage of the market’s lack of understanding and awareness of how cryptocurrencies worked. And they sold these alleged illegal securities to US citizens.
From this phrase, do I understand that they allege these companies because some users are unaware of how these tokens work? Or their ignorance or delusion that they are illegal securities? The law does not protect the dupes.

I think that as there are so many scams out there, and those companies like Bitmex, binance, etc know (or at least should know) that some of them are scams, they could be responsible.

It is a lawsuit, they have not been condemned yet.

These kind of lawsuit are more often than most people think in financial markets.

For example, the biggest company in Brazil, a stated owened oil company Petrobras, is under a legal lawsuit because the CEO knew about corruption and did nothing to stop. Investors are demanding money, because companies stocks crashed and the CEO lied about corruption. The investors said that if the CEO said there was corruption, they wouldn't have bought... something like that.
9294  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [RESOURCES] Free bitcoin/blockchain/finance eBook. on: April 07, 2020, 11:50:44 AM
Many of those books are free for download on github or other more trusted sources, like mastering bitcoin can be downloaded from github.

Isn't google drive unsafe for download? We don't know exactly what may be in those files.

9296  Local / Português (Portuguese) / Re: Binance adquire a CoinMarketCap on: April 07, 2020, 01:12:57 AM

Provavelmente o ad-block deu pau.

9297  Local / Português (Portuguese) / Re: Binance adquire a CoinMarketCap on: April 06, 2020, 09:14:48 PM

9298  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion to make rank-up more difficult on: April 06, 2020, 09:07:25 PM
Now let's take another example: did you take a look at nullius? Smiley He is the best example. Not to mention anymore that he also had a topic on a similar matter - Suggestion: Raise merit requirements at the lower and highest ranks (@theymos). Let's remember some of his words from that time:

Starting with 17 merits awarded to some of my old Jr. Member posts by people who remember them, I reached the Hero threshold of 500 merits within 27 days, 8 hours, 16 minutes, 22 seconds of active posting.  All in all, from the moment that theymos announced the merit system, it took me 32 days, 9 hours, 14 minutes, 51 seconds to go from zero to Hero

Meanwhile, nullius has 1517 merits and 1260 posts. Posts, not activity! His activity is 280.

Nullius deserves a rank by his name.

He writes very well. He put so much effort in his posts. It is a privilege to have a member such as him in this forum. He has knowledge, will to share, time, patience... He can't be an example for anything.

Not including theymos and satoshi, there are only 83 members who have earned 1000 merit ever, in the >2 years since merit was introduced. That's not even 1 new legendary a week. I don't think that's an unreasonable position. Increasing the limit to 3,000 would give a grand total of 5 legendary members on the entire forum (again, not including theymos). I don't see the benefit of doing that. The merit system was supposed to prevent spammers from ranking up, not create a new rank which is only obtainable by <0.001% of the forum.

I agree with this.
You can create a new rank for those 3000k merited members, or members who are here for a long time (i.e, very high activity).

But to become a legendary you need 1000 merits, which was done only by 83 members in this forum is already very unobtainable.

Maybe there should a badge or something for each 1000 earned merits.
9299  Other / Meta / Re: Were do I post about a new ICO on: April 06, 2020, 05:16:29 PM
Everything about my cryptocurrency is decentralized.

How does YOUR cryptocurrency is decentralized?

I think you don't know what decentralized means.

Do you know that bitcoin is not satoshi's cryptocurrency, right? Bitcoin is almost a public good, a commonweal. There was no ICO, for example.

Your cryptocurrency just looks like something private that you own. As you described.

Of my total supply these percentages is for

2% Developers
3% Commission fees
5% Costs like servers etc.
70% is for mining

You own the mining as well? You are going to decide what to do with the money, how much you are going to spend on mining, who will mine, etc...

This doesn't look decentralized at all.
9300  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BPIP] Bitcointalk Public Information Project [Back in Action] on: April 06, 2020, 04:38:16 PM
That's a good point even though I have no idea what "contabilize" means Smiley

I think I have created a new word mixing Portuguese and English lol.
Just made a correction

TL/DR: Airdropped merit were not "merited", even in official bitcointalk statistics. in my opinion, there should be other name or other way to contabilize consider it in BPIP statistics.
