941  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk: Error 504: Gateway time-out [Update: November 11, 2023] on: November 13, 2023, 08:48:06 AM
Here we go again, that was roughly over 2hours of downtime...

Thought this was another attack but reading some of the responses in the thread, some users say its some routine maintenance going on and not an attack?

So how can we make the distinguishment between the two as we have no alerts on these technical changes as they happen??

Well Woodie, it comes down to the Lazio and Roma derby to decide the winner. Let the best man win.  Grin Grin
Am shocked to see myself go for the 5-6 cards, when I knew this game would have a good number of cards knowing the Italians are not affraid to challenge for the ball at any given chance...and looking at the number of bookings in the first half my game was already over, congrats to you, you win the duel  Cry

Div 3B announcment

If there is some kind of mistake let me know since this was all manual work and human error is possible, nay probable since it was me doing it  Grin
I have already faced Danydee twice, hope it doesn't negatively affect my position as this didn't get me any points in a round I performed well ....and are other players going to get such rounds repeat??

943  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What can happen next time due to a lack of proper knowledge about Bitcoin? on: November 12, 2023, 10:55:05 AM
Well, don't you think if the whole world is dominated by cryptocurrency or bitcoin, then some people will face a huge problem?
I don't think so, Bitcoin as it is is just another mode of payment available to people just as PayPal,Cashapp, wise and the list is endless....so Bitcoin being the dominant coin would just limit peoples options.

I have discovered some of the reasons for this. For example-

1. When virtual currency or crypto-currency reigns all over the world, the banking system will be miserable, and a group of people (who do not know about crypto-currency or bitcoin) will be unemployed all over the world, who till now were working at the convenience of various banks.
Not sure which angle you looking at this from, but bitcoin alone can't solve employment issues as this is just a mode of payment or a store of value.

2: Unemployed people (due to a lack of knowledge of currency requirements or benefits) will not be able to handle this shock in the first place, due to which they will face various financial, lateral, physical, and mental problems, which is a big challenge for them.
Humans are naturally survivors, and if learning how to use cryptocurrencies makes this much easy, trust me they/we shall learn.

3: Many developing or underdeveloped countries (especially those with low leverage) will consider cryptocurrency a curse rather than a blessing due to their lack of proper understanding of its importance.
But as things stand, crypto is more widely used in developing countries as most try to use it for cheaper remittances, bypassing the tax channels and last keeping their wealth under the radar unlike developed countries where regulation follows every dime and people operate by the book .

946  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin lose decentralization? on: November 11, 2023, 04:14:08 PM
Technically the only way possible for Bitcoin to lose its character of decentralization is if government agencies or some entity buys most of the Bitcoin on the market, which could allow them to solely control it and price as they can easily buy or sell by controlling the order books...

But as it is, the power of BTC is in decentralization which makes it impossible for a government to put it out of business if they declared that it should shutdown... otherwise decentralization is going nowhere!

Since miners decide which transactions to add to blocks and which ones not to add, governments can block them with a specific list of addresses.
The harsh reality of operating in jurisdictions that are possessed with control and regulations.

948  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What impact does the BTC price have on your gambling habits? on: November 11, 2023, 01:02:10 PM
If you had 200 dollars worth of BTC on your gaming account and the value rose by 50%, then chances are that players will play less and much more careful.

If price rose today and you deposited say $100 worth of Bitcoin then the value means nothing and your play style will remain the same as you would if you had to play with $10 dollars.

AFAIK only users that have seen a gain on their asset value would exhibit a change in play style.
949  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some of bitcoin's aim and purpose have been trampled upon on: November 11, 2023, 12:41:29 PM
Am I the only one seeing this recent happening on the high transaction's fee of bitcoin as a direct attack on bitcoin purpose?
Tbh, It can be seen as an attack as it deprives others the opportunity to use the cryptocurrency they love and own!!

But then if we talk of financial freedom, we need people to use their coins however they like but if this spamming of the network makes it unused, then let's take this as positive criticism and allow for large volumes of transactions!!! Perhaps another fork by our devs should be in the pipe line...

Some of the things that make bitcoin unique and part of its purpose are: privacy, decentralisation, transparency, security, seamless transactions, and above all, financial freedom. Being in control of your holdings—when I say control, I mean total control—you decide when to spend your holdings and when not to spend them, and there is no limitation in terms of when they could be used.
If we are talking about no limitations, then the spamming of the network should also be accepted as these transactions are not free and being paid for at a premium by the users.... choosing to control how people spend their Bitcoins makes us no different from our governments and love to control everything.

Some of bitcoin's aim and purpose have been trampled upon, which don't look good on the network at all.
Supply and demand will also play their role and affect
it  negatively or positively which is something we don't account for...
950  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [banned mixer] 🦁 Fantasy Premier League Pool ⚽ Discussion Thread on: November 11, 2023, 09:14:51 AM
Right, so I know I cleared out Brighton players because of their slide (I'm with Trofo, don't be tempted by Estupinan once he returns) but now I had to move Maddison out (seems ankle injury is weeks recovery), I thought, okay, fine, let's give Mitoma another chance, surely against the worst team in the league he smacks them good, no?
Brighton without Estupinan seem to be a different team altogether and it's for this reason I have transferred out all Brighton assets to avoid disappointments they keep delivering!! Though interestingly they showed some heart in the Europa games and and do deserve a second chance.. Mitoma isn't a bad addition too..

Largely unchanged, I'm sticking with C Wilson, my hero.
Callum Wilson in my option seems to be the better striker than Isak , but why does the manager always play Isak ahead of Wilson???

Atm Wilson is enjoying some game time because Isak is injured and once his bad it's back to bench warming.
951  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sad reality: some countries gamble more than they can afford on: November 11, 2023, 06:48:03 AM
I was looking at gambling statistics for my country the other day. People in Greece lost 22.5 billion EUR only in 2021, and 29 billion in 2022 and that was only on licensed establishments.

That's around 10% of Greece's GDP wasted away towards offshore companies... This is a very hard issue to deal with and to think that it happens at such a scale even with the licensed casinos is unthinkable.
And how do the numbers stack up for number of winners against the assumed lost money, because this data is inconclusive on its on. And I want to believe we might have a couple of big winners in this money lost too which hasn't been acknowledged.

Essentially governments sell a casino license once and then these casinos are given free reign on how to advertise, how to be promoted, what claims to make... No limits to how much they can earn.
Probably tax them for this service looking at how much money they make, and I honestly don't see them feeling the pinch either.

What do you think about this issue where people gamble too much in countries where the vast majority of the population isn't well off? Should governments step in and restrict casinos more perhaps?
Unfortunately they will claim to say this is a potential venture to make money as job opportunities might not be available for everyone and governments hands are tied when it comes to regulating adult's.
952  Economy / Economics / Re: Entrepreneurship and women on: November 11, 2023, 05:10:40 AM
For starters, these numbers are subjective and can be said to be biased as this sample data is based on a certain small number of people and probably of a country that could have different laws and regulations that can favour one gender over the other in trying to get both working equally. Another factor that might be overlooked when it comes to entrepreneurship is religion, but let's face it , as much as we want to have every gender equally participating as entrepreneurs, unfortunately it's much easier for women to excel as they don't get the tough jobs, the system is built to protect them more than the men... otherwise I would say we getting close to the 50% work opportunities for all with time.
953  Economy / Economics / Re: "I saw my salary on a bottle of perfume today" on: November 10, 2023, 06:52:42 PM
Yeah, you heard me right. Today I was scrolling through some Instagram Reels and I saw a video of a person saying this. I'm still confused. Should I laugh or should I feel sorry for that person?
When you get to a stage where you can blow big bills on yourself then you deserve it as its your money, secondly you don't want society to dictate how one should live.
besides don't believe everything you see on social media, some of it is fake and some of it subscribers pay for it via courses promising you to be taught how to be rich.

So here's how the whole video goes. The man said and I quote" I saw my salary on a bottle of perfume today. So you are saying that someone out there smells like my salary."
If such content makes you feel bad about yourself, if I were you I would stop watching them for the sake of my mental health!!

To me, I will choose the second one. If I am happy with what I have and I am certain that it will continue to help me in the future too, then I have successfully achieved financial freedom. But most people these days are caught up with the thought of using luxurious thing and being able to continuously use it is financial freedom to them.

Do you agree or disagree to this? Let me know your thoughts.

Honestly Financial muscle is some kind of financial freedom if we go by definition, besides what's financial freedom when you have to work hard to get paid $$$$, tbh whoever coined this word should have meant freedom from the government and its bureaucracy
954  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's happening with Bitcoin transaction fees? on: November 10, 2023, 04:06:24 PM

Its kind of fun watching what's going on with our transaction fees on mempool...

and interesting enough is that someone keeps bumping the average sat/vB to X5 whats there.... for example if this person finds the highest priority fee being 40 sat/vB he/she bumps it to 200 sta/vB and this has been going on all day!

Could miners be onto this and someone is enjoying spamming the Bitcoin network??

956  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's happening with Bitcoin transaction fees? on: November 09, 2023, 10:15:51 AM
Yes, as per mempool the fees are:

And it looks like this is a coordinate attack in the last couple of weeks to really increased the fees and make the bitcoin network not usable for ordinary investors. We have this kind of situation before if I'm not mistaken, around May and we didn't do anything about it but just to wait for this whole BRC-20 ordinals to die down. But now they are at it again. Specially the timing though, when we are about to make a good run, some entities will have to ruined it.
You can say that again!

At the moment bitcoin isn't looking attractive not only to ordinary investors but also to users who use it regularly for micro payments and actually with these high transaction fees I see this negatively affecting the gig industry which uses crypto payment a lot...

And with this coordinated attack, we must give the ordinals a hand for not getting bored doing this , spamming the network and all but with time they sure will need to focus their energy elsewhere, let's hang in there & wait for this wave to pass  Cool

957  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⭐⚽⭐ Sportsbet's Bitcointalk Sports Fanatics League (BSFL) – 10000$ rewards ⭐⚽⭐ on: November 09, 2023, 05:38:24 AM
I finally calculated the points for the Newcastle promo as well. Sorry for the long wait, I just couldn't force myself to do it on my laptop.
Now I'm set up properly on my desktop PC again so I promise better performances Grin

The spreadsheet with your answers and total points calculations can be seen here.

The players within 3 points are:

Kanapka - 12
goodpunt - 11
Woodie - 11
Jinetics1111 - 10
Trofo - 9
vd309 - 9
cryptofrka - 9
Dittoup - 9
Omikifuse - 9
This looks super close and can change in a blink of an eye with those zero points that show up once in a while....

Also not to jinx the game or anything, I know for certain that Newcastle will be relegated to Europa or sent packing come December mid month because they are playing like a broken team in the CL...which means the Newcastle promo could be coming to an end earlier than anticipated especially after wowing us against PSG Tongue

And looking at how close these results are already looking like, what happens in the case of multiple winners??? Will SB honor multiple winning spots?

Cros2 do the other questions on the Newcastle promo count for anything ??

Jinetics1111 we meet again, wasn't even aware that this  game week I was drawn against you , and just to make sure I had a winning chance against you checked spreadsheet and I must say.. our answers aren't so much different and already Manchester United have cost me my first point with that Copenhagen goal as I had Manchester United to win and keep a cleansheet...@&#§€ Utd it has to be always these guys spoiling the winners, perhaps this should  be pinned on Rashford for that unnecessary Red  Card  Cry

Now it's 2-2 Wtf Utd

You want in immediately? We have one player that is kicked from competition and we can slot you in his place. You can fill the form this week for fun and start for real from next week.

Yeah sure, if that's fine with everyone else I wouldn't mind it Cheesy
Welcome to the started from the bottom now we here club lol
