Hence the figure of 8 Billion came about although a larger number is still something that can be pondered and weighed upon. It was 4 billion that was picked out the air. After discussion by Nemsters on the Forum the number 8 billion came up for a variety of reasons and was decidedly liked by most over the original 4 B. Do we want to cater for the Asians? Any Asian new to the movement would probably pick 8 billion rather than 4 Also I agree that when NEM becomes popular, do we want to talk about decimal points like BtC....I find it confusing when something is worth 0.00065 of a btc for example. Perhaps 80 billion would bring pricing amounts up to closer to what we are all familiar with. What is the point for such a big change at this point? People who have bought their stakes in AE will get confused and the same effect go along with those who does not visit this topic regulary. Given the point that devaluation of NEM could seriously harm the price, IMO Just burn one NEM. That is just a terrible choice from marketing- and economics perspective. There is no marketing perspective here. A marketing person would take the perspective of what we can do to make NEM more appealing to future users and adjusting the total supply is one means of increasing appeal. Having 4 billion "death coins" could be a deal breaker for hypothetical users in East Asia. Call them superstitious but a coin supply of 666 million or 13 billion would result in similar hysteria among Americans. What is technically going on here is actually appeasement of a minority opinion of stakeholders. The sample poll was in favor of 8 billion coins (the logo vote had a smaller margin in favor and I voted against that penis logo, by the way. I guess NEM = MEN backwards and hence the phallic object but I still don't get it but I've accepted it / don't dissent over it anymore). |

People had incentive to work but then we had stagflation and inflation. Minimum wage in the United States is no longer adequate for a decent lifestyle and this removing a lot of incentive to work when entitlements and handouts (and undeclared income) are worth more.
Minimum wage in Florida is a bit under $8 and thus a lot of people there are only making $8.50-$10 a hour. Florida has long been a tourism and retirement economy where most of the work is part time and/or seasonal.
So working (to make a rich person richer) would only pay for a room in somebody's basement and that would require like 100 hours of pre-tax work each month for this hypothetical low income person.
People say these minimum wage jobs are a step to something better but I'm not honestly seeing it. I remember the 1990s when you did see teenagers working at McDonalds but nowadays I see a lot of aged (50+ year old) people working in fast food and other low income positions.

Most people think so. Silk Road did like 10 million Bitcoin in revenue and had like 150,000 - 200,000 Bitcoins in their system. If you do the math then you realize Silk Road was likely majority of Bitcoin's volume and yet all those coins were removed from circulation and this scarcity of available coins led to a bidding war for what bitcoins remained. I think this was counteracted, in the end, when whales hibernating since 2009 awoke and started to dump. |

Just because the twitter account posts an opinion you like (like pointing out IPO scams) and links YouTube videos anybody can access, doesn't mean it's the actual person. Not proof of anything. I'll wait until somebody can submit evidence that she ever mentions Panda coin on a video. Don't pull some shit like: "it's mentioned in this video" and you link some 30 minute bull$hit nobody has time to view. People like Pandacoin better than Bitcoin because it is faster and the price stays the same. People can usually convert PND to local money after a shift without loosing money. There was a poster who said a taxi driver would beat you if you tried to pay with Bitcoin. This is true. However Panda is sometimes more fast than a credit card so even evil taxi drivers in Bucharest do not become too angry waiting. I do not want people to think all of Romania is using Pandacoin as a 2nd currency. I was a foreigner so even the dive bars where friends took me were not the "real" dive bars they would probably go to on their own. This isn't as far fetched as it sounds. There is a romanian singer on twitter, that is always tweeting about pandacoin. And why is pandacoin such a 'shitcoin' as posters above have stated, it's actually a pretty good coin, i can only guess that a lot of you haven't looked into it too much? Transactions are pretty much instant, so i can see why people would choose to use it. and the price has been extremely stable. In fact, if pandacoin was as well known as BTC, and BTC was another alt then i would imagine posters calling bitcoin a shitcoin. There are contenders to Bitcoin which aren't $hitcoins. Like NXT and BitsharesX are good contenders.
The critical problem among these alternates is, much like Bitcoin, there isn't really anyone working on promotion or userbase expansion. Capitalization should be secondary to userbase growth.
The issue here is Bitcoin is only used by 500K-2M users. The people who are actually dying to use crypto currencies (aka volunteering to be paying beta testers which is what it honestly all is at this stage) is very limited.
Marketing and educating future consumers is prohibitively expensive. Ethereum if I recall just spent a five figure amount to do a full page ad in some free Bitcoin magazine that was only given out to hundreds and probably less than 1% actually read the ad and was interested enough to look up Ethereum.. even then that's not a huge accomplishment as that's just poaching users from the Bitcoin userbase and not getting anybody new into the technology.
