Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC Winning The Race Here's Why

-snip- ..... I would love for the Avalon team to post in here and give some confirmation to how many units are confirmed as shipped and dispatched. ......
They have no time to answer emails, now what makes you think........... They're winning the race because they shipped first, and also they're Chinese, just saying.... does not make me think at all other than Avalon are doing a fantastic job at actually getting the job done. They suck at CS, but they're whooping the competition at getting units off the drawing board and onto the network. I haven't heard of any in the wild aside from the 3 that have been known. I have a batch 1 order, and still haven't heard anything. February ends this week...

just buy 120k in btc...wait til the end of the year when it's at 100usd and sell = profit You can't guarantee that that will happen. In fact, you run a giant risk that the price will fall, and you would lose money. What would you do if the price dropped down to $20 or even $10 again? My suggestion: buy 4 BFL MiniRigs. It's what I would do if I had that kind of cash. That will give you ~6TH/s, and pull about 6kW of power. For comparison, 120k would buy ~80 Avalon units, which would give you ~5.3TH/s, and pull almost 50kW of power. He seems to forget the lead time on these BFL units. By the time you get them, it would worry about the profitability. Buy FPGA mini-rigs (from someone who has them in-hand), and then buy the SC upgrades.

I used pp backed by a cc, which seemed safe. Looks like I may find out just how safe.
I would chargeback as soon as you can. clorox stinks of scammer. He posted in Newbie section until he could get out and immediately went to "sell" bitcoins and BFL singles. I dunno if I really have a basis to chargeback yet. I'm thinking I'll give him a week, and chargeback if no delivery and no contact. I've already PM'd him asking for an explanation of the seeming duplicate sale. The forums say he's not logged in since.

I just bought one, so I guess there are 2 left.
So clorox, another user just contacted me and said that you took payment from them for all 3 units. Do you have more than 3 to sell, or are you scamming us both?

Butterfly have shipped something These are their 832MH/s FPGA Singles, which have been shipping since March 2012. They're good for a $599 trade-in credit towards the purchase of an SC Single until June 2013. I just bought one, so I guess there are 2 left.

Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Help with choosing a UPS / power conditioning setup for 4xAvalon V1 machines?

Wait a second, what kind of power do these devices need anyway? Could they be run directly from battery (with a simple top-off charger running to supply the current)? Though I guess it would still need a UPS for the controlling computer.
Well, kinda sorta maybe. They use an ATX power supply. Probably most of the consumption is from the 12v rail, and I imagine they use the 5v rail too to power the USB hub and the wr703n. I dunno if they use the 3.3v rail or not. Even if you can use buck converters to make 5v and 3.3v if needed, it probably won't really work. I think you'll find that the voltage supplied by the charger is sometimes too high, and is not regulated well enough. It may send 14v or more when it's trying to charge, depending on its charge strategy. You really need a proper constant voltage power supply. Avalons are standalone, so you won't need a host computer.

i worry about those modules snapping off their mounts inside the case. i remember someone shipping me a couple of gpu mining rigs with the gpu's pre-mounted. they got snapped off their mounting screws/plates from the boxes being thrown around by Fedex. Fedex wouldn't take responsibility for the damage either.
Mmm, true. Those screws didn't look very big or long. Hopefully there's something securing the modules at their top ends, but I haven't seen anything in photos.
