1201  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Anyone wants to sell me one Avalon ASIC miner? on: March 17, 2013, 04:14:51 PM
Sctyh3 wanted to buy mine for $10k, but I decided I'd rather keep it.
1202  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon DHL question Batch #1 #2 on: March 17, 2013, 04:04:44 PM
I found out my tracking info by calling DHL.

You might also leave a signed and dated note posted for DHL asking them to plz leave the delivery.
1203  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: March 17, 2013, 04:00:06 PM
Hmm, I see better efficiency when using those parameters too.

Do you know what the 4th parameter is, and what made you decide to change it to 42?
1204  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: March 17, 2013, 02:38:02 PM
I achieved OC by modifying /etc/init.d/cgminer.  Look for the --avalon-options argument.  The last number in the string is the clock speed.  Default is 282, I changed mine to 300.

--avalon-options 115200:24:10:45:300

At 300 it gets around 71.6GH/s, the fans get a little louder, and Temp3 rose from 42 to 43.

thanks Bogard, but i don;t know anything about Linux (windows boy here Cheesy )
in openwrt where i go and do what? Smiley

For you the easy way is probably to use an SFTP client like filezilla to download the /etc/init.d/cgminer file, edit it locally, and then upload the modified version.

http://filezilla-project.org/download.php

The trick to activate SFTP mode in filezilla is to enter sftp://192.168.0.100 for the host address (or whatever your Avalon's IP is, the sftp:// prefix is the important part.)  Login is the same as used for the OpenWRT WebUI.
1205  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 16 Avalon photos on: March 17, 2013, 02:08:09 PM
Same with PSU, it is located near the end of the heatsink where hotest air is sucked into PSU
another cutout, rotate PSU by 180 degree

there are NO heatsinks near the PSU.

the PSU fan is not power enough to maintain a low temperature. the front fan will help the PSU to cool it self.

this is the last time i post about heat dissipation design, do what ever you want to do to your own machine and void your warranty please.

A design change I might suggest for future revisions would be to also attach the module heatsinks to the top panel, and dissipate heat there too.  This would also help to better physically anchor the hashing modules.

I realize that this would make opening the case more difficult.
1206  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Problem: Avalon#1 stop working very often on: March 17, 2013, 12:49:39 PM
I'm mining using the Avalon's internal host and don't have a problem with it hanging, but I do notice that cgminer seems to restart itself fairly often.  Elapsed Time shown on the cgminer status page is usually quite low.

I think they may have some kind of a watchdog that restarts it.

I'm now finding mining using stratum to be far more stable.  4h18m elapsed is showing now on the cgminer status page.

Interesting article here, though mostly focused on RSA:

Too bad it's almost 1 BTC for shipping outside of Germany.
1210  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon DHL question Batch #1 #2 on: March 17, 2013, 12:35:06 PM
DHL has called me before to tell me something's coming that requires a signature, but they didn't this time.

My phone number was printed on the shipping label, and also on the invoice.

There are videos all over youtube of ppl doing these mods.
1212  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Got offered an Avalon, how much to pay? on: March 17, 2013, 02:36:46 AM
This guy said he'll pay $10k for one:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=140519.0

You could offer $7.5k and try and flip it to that guy in an arbitrage deal.

Can't make the WR703N work huh?  Is it totally unresponsive?  Does the light come on?

You can get a new WR703N for ~$20.  I have several sitting beside me here.

How would it make financial sense for me to order a handful of the TP-LINK TL-WR703N v1 and flash them for backups before the community needs them?

I suppose that depends on the expected rate of failure, and what kind of premium you think someone would pay for a turnkey replacement.

I have mine around just to play with.
1214  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: March 16, 2013, 11:31:30 PM
...annnnd it's paid for itself, USD-wise.  33 BTC earned in just 91 hours.   Shocked
on which lucky pool you are?

Well, uh, I didn't mine BTC the whole time.  Some of the time I was [solo]mining TRC, which I then dumped on an exchange for BTC.

Sadly, mining to bitcoind directly does not work well.

I use eloipool with bitcoind.

Could you explain what about it doesn't work well?
1215  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mixing different cards on the same motherboard on: March 16, 2013, 08:51:01 PM
I thought that on linux it was possible to run different SDK versions simultaneously on the different cards.

I've never done it myself since I have all 5xxx series.
1216  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Amagi Metals - Largest Selection of Gold & Silver for Bitcoins on: March 16, 2013, 07:12:58 PM

One recommendation - the ability to view prices in BTC before adding to the cart and selecting payment.  Othe than that, I think the site looks fine.

That's actually why we want to hire a programmer, preferably one who knows and understands BTC. It looks as if nobody is up for the task though Sad

Long ago I wrote this tiny script to do just that.  It might still work:

1217  Economy / Collectibles / Re: CASASCIUS PHYSICAL BITCOIN - In Stock Now! (pic) on: March 16, 2013, 06:56:30 PM
Could someone explain to me the different series'?  I have seen references to series 1, 2, and 3.

Does that just refer to the coin's date, 2011, 2012 or 2103?

I don't understand the "I don't mine bitcoin, I mine xxxcoin and sell them for bitcoin" angle.  Are you saying there is a price differential between the difficulty ratio of btc to say litecoin, compared to the exchange rate?
