1161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Advantage of holding Bitcoin in time of crisis on: March 03, 2023, 11:31:29 PM
Holding bitcoin during times of crisis can provide a sense of security and stability, as well as protection against inflation and other economic risks even though we know it is a highly volatile asset and its value can fluctuate rapidly, so it is not without risks. Besides as I saw this become an attractive option for some people because it is a decentralized, digital currency that is not subject to the same inflationary pressures as traditional fiat currencies --and the reason could be they can store and manage their bitcoin without the need for intermediaries such as banks or financial institutions. This can provide a greater sense of autonomy and independence when it comes to managing one's wealth. While still considering bitcoin may be a viable alternative for some people during times of crisis, it is important to carefully consider the potential risks and benefits before investing in it.

People argue that BTC is not a good store of value asset due to its high volatility. I do disagree but this comes with the contingent of knowing when to covert your BTCs into cash on the right opportunity and time.

One of the advantages of holding BTC in times of crisis is its value on the market. While it may not be stable compared to tangible assets like gold, expect its price to either increase/decrease depending on the current market status. This is also the reason on why the term HODLING was coined- keeping your assets until its value skyrockets in the future.
1162  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why recommend when they don't understand the risks? on: March 03, 2023, 11:14:49 PM
Well, I would argue that if my family members are interested enough to learn and know the fundamentals of cryptocurrencies, I would not hesitate to explain it to them. Remember that all types of investment have risks- whether it be gold, stocks, bank notes, etc. You would just have to choose on which risk you are willing to experience and face in the future.

I would also keep my mouth shut but the opportunity of having to invest in BTC is just huge especially with the incoming fork in the next year. If my friends ask questions about it, I would not hesitate to explain it to them BUT I would never compel or force them to invest. Everything will still depend on their personal decision whether they want to invest or not.
1163  Economy / Economics / Re: Benefit from Higher Education? on: March 03, 2023, 10:57:55 PM
I wonder if higher education will help for entrepreneurship?
I am more interested in how much theory will help in this, because during a long study we do not get practice, this will be possible only when we start doing business, until that moment we will not be able to know how much it will help us.

This can help us if we need a license, but in some cases it can be obtained without a higher education.

Statistically, 95% of entrepreneurs have a bachelor's degree or higher and I wonder, for those of you who are involved in entrepreneurship, how useful was higher education for you?

Having a background on business not only helps you understand multiple theories but it also touches on the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. A lot of people overlook this stage but it is significantly important in learning all the methods of business before you actually start one. Not to mention, education will also provide you a real-life experience on business since there are some subjects that requires you to sell "x" number of items in order to pass it.

I do understand that there are some people who skip college and directly proceed to business. Though I do not judge these people, but having formal education and a degree on business will greatly impact and affect your entrepreneur experience as a whole.
1164  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ESports betting -CS:GO, DOTA 2, LOL, Valorant - Sportsbet.io discussion thread on: March 03, 2023, 10:46:10 PM
This major is a complete disaster! The pause between games can go up to 2 hours and even after 2 hours , the production cannot be sure if they can resume the competition or make another quick check and I thought ok , it's only 1st day , things can be resolved with a decent IT crew specialized on streaming and using OBS, which I'm more than familiar and they should resolve it quickly but I guess no one made a  backup configuration file.

Second day started with another 1 hour delay and it seems it will continue like this for the rest of the Major with at least 1 H pause between games, even if we switch from game 1 to game 2 or from a team to another.
That problem depends on the organizer, I remember the Shanghai major where it's truly a disaster and there were players' belongings and money that have been robbed.
Well, needless to say, the major is already in the playoffs, and despite all of those issues that have been caught and come out it still proceeded.
Right now, in the lower bracket, cast now your bets with the match of Talon and HellRaisers.

I think disaster is an understatement for the current status of this major. To be honest, this has to be the worst major so far that Valve has prepared. Not only that they misorganized almost the processes, but the pause on the games which caused hours of delays, the casters and some cringe-y interaction with the crowds is just painful to look at.

I remember back in Shanghai major, some of the belongings were stolen. But in this Lima Major, sounds were an issue, lag problems, cables, etc.- it just a total disaster that is completely different from Valve standards.
1165  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I want to convert my money to bitcoin because of our current banking system in m on: March 03, 2023, 08:11:31 PM
.....
Because literally in banking system for example, if you have $5000 that will be the value in 3 to 5 months and will add a little interest in it so my question is-  I don't fully know how bitcoin works. Is it the same way with the banking system? Will I get more value or less value in future times?

Is it not that a risk that if you convert your whole savings in BTC, there is a chance that your investment may reduce in value? Remember that BTC is volatile- if you can handle its volatility and accept the fact that your initial investment might decrease, then go for it. But having no physical cash on hand, despite the problems the bank is facing, can be problematic especially when an emergency arises.

Personally, I would convert at least half of my bank savings as BTC and save the other half as cash. In this way, you get the best of both worlds of investing and at the same time, having cash on hand in case of an emergency.
1166  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Robbery that attacks Bitcoin Holders on: March 03, 2023, 02:09:30 PM
there is no detailed explanation of how the thief could find out that the tourist has bitcoins
It wasn't a rocket science really as this guy is crypto "entrepeneur" so it was safe to assume that has some crypto. Just another proof how dangerous is to let everyone know that you are into crypto and I am susprised that we are not seeing more $5 dollar wrench attack cases like this.

Maybe this is the same as someone who flaunts their wealth into the world- you have this hanging sword of Damocles at your back when this happens. Like what they say, if you have such wealth, you must also have the responsibility of ensuring and protecting your safety as anyone can definitely harass you, especially what happened to this guy.

Quote
Then again, he might got what he deserves as he seems like a scammer that got robbed. Karma is a bitch.

I definitely agree. Though I do not want to glorify acts of violence, I do think that he got what he deserved especially that he is known to promise guaranteed profit to users. Sounds like he is organizing a ponzi-scheme where he defrauds people into his projects.
1167  Economy / Gambling / Re: shame on the stake on: March 03, 2023, 01:36:08 PM
This is an easy one for the platform to wiggle around based off the terms and conditions you signed up for when registering on their website.

It is important to note that it is possible that it was truly a network lag (7 seconds is not such a ridiculous time), and you can I expect the site to compensate any resulting situation from network lags.

You can choose to avoid the platform on the basis of their lags and also their unsatisfactory support team.

it was the lag of their site. Yes, I can and will refuse, because the situation is absurd. I have been playing in this casino for several years, I bet small amounts, but quite often, during this time I have filled myself with VIP, and in such a situation the casino simply refused to compensate for its lags. especially since I asked to just cancel the bet as it would have been logical, but in the end they just ignored it.

I just want people to know that such situations can happen and that such a notorious casino will not be on your side.

This is interesting- you have betting on the website for years and the support system did not acknowledge your problem? Regardless of the amounts that you bet, that should be some solid proof of loyalty to their gambling website. They should at least adhered to your concern and acknowledged it by heeding to your request.

What is the status of their customer service currently? Have you reached out to them again asking for another solution to this problem? If your request still remains unheeded, then I guess the best course of action is to switch to another online gambling platform to avoid any future encounters with this.
1168  Local / Pamilihan / Re: What is the best crypto exchange in the Philippines? on: March 02, 2023, 11:52:30 PM

Naalala mo yun?

Even if kung mataas ang fees, pero kung nandoon ang convenience, I might completely transfer my funds from coins to GCash crypto platform.
1169  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Online Casinos lack slot clubs; comps, is it hard to achieve? on: March 02, 2023, 11:13:30 PM
House edge is biggest factor why casinos make so much money, some casinos offer highest reward to high level Vips. Bc.game  offers exclusive Vip benefits on 5 star hotel suits with reimbursing travel fees. Svip accounts have this opportunity but I think concrete cash rewards are better than offline offers.
^Definitely right that the house edge is a significant factor that contributes to the profits of casinos.
It is good for the casinos that are constantly looking for ways to enhance their players' experiences and incentivize their high rollers to keep coming back. Whether it is through a lower house edge or exclusive VIP benefits, casinos understand the importance of providing value to their customers. Because if I am a gambler, luxurious accommodations, and travel reimbursements can provide a level of convenience and comfort that may be more valuable to some players than a simple cash reward.

This is an interesting thing to point at- house edge does indeed give casinos the "edge" in terms of their overall strategy and winning on their matches.

Though online gambling casinos are designed and created under the mechanics of provably fair inputs, how does this apply in physical casinos? I am quite curious if there is a difference between gambling online vs gambling in a physical casino in terms of winning/losing.

I remember I visited this physical casino in our country and there was this old guy who was famous for notoriously betting huge amounts of money in a single night. Quickly, all the servers went and served him the best whiskey that they could find. He also seemed like he was a God there with all the complementaries being offered at him.
1170  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Drake Loses $400K Bitcoin Bet on Jake Paul’s Bout on: March 01, 2023, 11:59:36 PM
Another huge loss become public.
it seems that the famous Canadian singer has made a bet on Jake Paul that turned to be wrong Sad
400K USD has been wasted. It seems isn't the first time some public bets result in a loss ...

here more details:
https://news.bitcoin.com/rap-star-drake-loses-400000-bitcoin-bet-on-jake-paul-in-split-decision-loss-to-tommy-fury/

what lessons can be learned by this event?

Well, I guess one lesson that we can deduce here is to bet on professional boxers instead of celebrity-turned-into-boxer type of scenario. In this case, Drake went to bet on Jake Paul, who I consider is a person who is never a professional boxer to begin with. In addition, maybe the gamble that Drake did is also some sort of publicity to attract attention and viewers to participate on the match.

Another lesson is also to consider betting on small amounts. The amount of $400,000 may seem significantly huge for us, but to Drake, it may be relatively small compared to his total net worth. That is why, only bet the amount that you are willing to lose in the process.
1171  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What makes Bitcoin special unlike other crypto.. on: March 01, 2023, 11:44:45 PM
According to my knowledge of cryptography and block chains the complexity of a particular coins / tokens  cryptograph makes its value higher   and also Bitcoin was the first crypto currency.
Apart from these are there any other factors affecting it's special nature

In an investment perspective, I would argue that one of its special characteristics is its price. Being the dominant cryptocurrency in the market, its price is highly volatile, which others may consider as an bane, while some consider it as a blessing. Depending on the investment, a person can potentially earn and profit thousands to millions of dollars if he/she is able to maximize its opportunity or HODL.

Another characteristic on what makes BTC special is its overall acceptability in other countries. With its strong foundation, some countries have started to accept and integrate it to their financials and economy. Though there may be countries that are skeptical about its use, it remains as a fact that BTC is to co-exist with fiat as a means of alternative payment to other purchases.
1172  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Negative Perception sa PH Crypto Start-up project on: March 01, 2023, 11:25:50 PM

1173  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Online Casinos lack slot clubs; comps, is it hard to achieve? on: March 01, 2023, 12:23:58 AM
....
Do you think online casinos should step up and offer items to consistent low rollers in their platform?

I think online gambling casinos should somehow incentivize its users in consistently playing on their platform. But remember that this is one of the features that online players suffer when playing on this kind of platform. They suffer the consequences of NOT experiencing the complementaries being offered if you visit a physical casino, but the drawback is the convenience of playing anytime online.

I think I remembered someone posting on a Reddit Watch board where the gambling company sent him one (1) credit where he would be able choose a watch for free (e.g. Rolex, IWC, Omega, and other luxury brands) as a way of saying gratitude. Though he did disclose that he spent like $100,000 on a monthly basis.

Personally, I do think that online casinos should at least give more on this kinds of offers, not just withdrawal bonuses and deposits.
1174  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Awareness and Redemption on: February 28, 2023, 11:50:13 PM
Good day everyone. When a friend told me how he makes money from bounties, I joined Bitcointalk and have solely participated in bounties ever since. I've been in bounty for a while, and during that time I've heard and read some topics about how unproductive and time-wasting they are here. However, I stayed because I wanted to confirm and see it for myself, and from what I saw and experienced, I realized how unproductive and time-wasting they are.
I ultimately made the decision to make amends and resolved to be more engaged with other forum sections to learn more about it and, ideally, discover Bitcoin. I'm hoping I still have time to start over and prove myself in this place. I need guidance

I mean, there is nothing wrong with the mindset of joining this forum in order to earn some profit/income. But the advice of your friend is relatively bad due to the nature of bounties where some and majority of them pay at a staggering low amount or sometimes not even at all. Not to mention, brand-new users who join these bounties overall contributes to the general spam on different threads.

If I were you, continue what you have realized. Focus your goal on learning and exploring the cryptocurrency world at your own pace. Use the motivation of earning as a stepping stone in educating yourself with all the basics and fundamentals of cryptocurrencies here in this forum.
1175  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Thoughts sa Exchange P2P transaction on: February 28, 2023, 11:25:42 PM

I think this boils down sa account limitations na sinasabi mo. For what I remember, si GCash ay may limit ata na p100,000 every month in receiving money.

I buy ETH or BTC. Though I have yet to encounter a transaction na hindi tumatanggap ng GCash.

1176  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling is Neither Good or Bad on: February 28, 2023, 11:07:33 PM

This is why I cringe whenever I hear or read stories of people who blame gambling for the loss of their entire life's saving or some negative consequence. The act of Gambling in itself is neutral. It is not to be blame for the harm that has befallen the individual but rather the individual's inability to control their emotions, finances, and time. I strongly encourage every newbie gambler as well as experienced gamblers to take responsibility for their actions and not using gambling as a scapegoat for their lack of discipline. If you approach gambling with discipline and self-control you will find that that it can be a fun and relaxing activity. Who else thinks so too?

I do agree with your statement- it is on the nature of the consequences of the action of a person which makes anything bad. The problem with gambling on why it is associated as "evil" is due to its potentially addicting nature, where anyone can fall and succumb to it. You can say that a person, with the right discipline, can at least control his expenditures in gambling. But this does not apply to others where they can easily fall into this addicting activity.

At the end of the day, we are responsible for our respective actions. We also have the power to determine which actions we would do. In every little things, we decide whether we should do it or not.
1177  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Hypothetical Question on: February 27, 2023, 11:50:29 PM
If you were told the outcome of a soccer match, hours before the match was scheduled, and you were assured that it would 100% win, how much would you be willing to bet on it? Assuming it was a 100% can’t lose situation.

Assuming you had millions of dollars that you could put on the match, where would you place the bets? Bookies often limit players. How could one successfully place millions of dollars in bets without drawing up suspicions or having their money frozen? Just curious.

Betting that amount of money will definitely arise suspicion on your account especially if this is the first time you are betting. Normally, gambling companies have to do various backgrounds checks (e.g. bet history, amount of bets you made, etc.) in order to verify whether no shenanigans are made.

In a hypothetical scenario that you provided, I would most likely bet only a handful amount of money since it will not arise any doubts/suspicion on the part of the checkers. In addition, it is also important to keep it subtle as much as possible since this could lead to your downfall of your account in the future.

I love to gamble incessantly and the perfect environment for this is my own home. Because in gambling i like to analyze something silently. I don't find that joy if I'm not gambling in a quiet environment. But I don't know what happens to everyone. Besides, i don't want anyone to see my victory or defeat. I do not need anyone to regret my defeat or rejoice at my victory. Moreover, street gambling can have risk factor that everyone will want to avoid. Almost all types of games are now available in online. As a result, gambling at home has become more popular. I can gamble online as much as i want in a comfortable environment that makes me completely happy.
Haha! You couldn't be more right, dude! I mean, who needs to deal with all the noise and hassle of a casino when you can enjoy the luxury of your own home, amirite? I like to kick back in my cozy armchair, sip some whiskey, and just let my mind run wild while I take on my bet. I feel like a god, man! Total control over my gaming universe! I mean, why go out and deal with a bunch of sweaty strangers when you can just chill and dominate online? It's the life, bro!

Every person is different as to what they enjoy. While you guys may find peace and comfort in gambling at the convenience inside your humble abode, there are others who look and find the adrenaline that they feel inside a physical casino. Not to mention, the complementaries and benefits you receive after you have gambled at a certain amount is something that can only be experienced if you visit and gamble in a physical casino.

Personally, I both enjoy gambling at a casino and at my home. There are times where I feel like visiting a casino in order to enjoy the overall experience and environment; and there are also times where I just want to lay in bed and use my mobile phone to access various gambling websites.

At the end of the day, it all boils down to preference and feel to the game.

1180  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does this help you win when you're gambling? on: February 26, 2023, 11:29:21 PM
Does anyone of you thought that playing for fun helps you think better and win with less effort especially in poker than having the mindset of trying to win? Because when you are trying your hard to win, it will make you overthink and that your mental state will get stressed out.
I think this will work for both land base and online casinos.

It will work but this depends on the person and the gambler who you are talking to.

Generally, a person who gambles purely for fun and entertainment are the ones who have a near-endless budget at their disposal. Sometimes, these gamblers are also the ones who gamble at the minimum rates as they enjoy the adrenaline of winning or losing, regardless of the status of their current bets.

On the other hand, gamblers who chase for profits are usually the ones who fall into debt or loans. They seem to think that by betting or gambling, they can pay out any of their debts or outstanding obligations, not knowing that it will only further worsen their position.
