anybody on minerpools having issues besides me? It keeps going "dead" in cgminer. Yet it seems to be ok from the stats page. I'm not having this issue with any other pool I mine.

Change to the x11 x13 pool or the dark pool from the OP lists.

I have always used to x11 x13 pool and found it works fine after miner pools fucked up at launch.

but the dark pool dev is also very active.

Actually, since I posted that I haven't had a single problem. Whatever it was must have gotten sorted.

Anyone know a good DEV to hire or persuade?

You could try presstab. Dunno if he'll do it, but he's good. He and I are on good terms, so tell him I recommended him. This will prevent any snide remarks to anyone but me Tongue I'd do it, but I'm offline in an hour.
1423  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin Mandatory Update! 40%+ SuperStake in 30+ days on: August 28, 2014, 11:11:25 PM
I think something has gone wrong with the wallet again. It has stopped staking. It is synced up but not staking anymore. I checked my stats page and there are some stats that do not look correct. It is unlocked for staking.

Local hashrate = 0.0khz

Total stake weight = 0

Network stake rate = 0

I still should have loads of coins to stake but everything in coin control is stake weight of 0 except for one block of coins. How do I fix this?

sounds like you have some orphans stuck in your system. go into the debug console and type repairwallet.
1424  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin Mandatory Update! 40%+ SuperStake in 30+ days on: August 28, 2014, 11:10:03 PM
OK, so it is now safe to change from;

connect= to addnode=??

I think so, if you make sure you're above the forked block on the proper chain first.
1425  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin Mandatory Update! 40%+ SuperStake in 30+ days on: August 28, 2014, 06:31:05 PM
@ david, yes, it's normally addnode instead of connect. But to make sure, prior to the checkpoints and exclusions, connect will ONLY connect to the noted IP, whereas addnode will allow you to connect to as many peers as it can find.

That is in fact one way to make a test chain. Get the ip of the other guy's wallet, remove or comment out all addnodes, put in the connect statement for ONLY that wallet, and voila! new chain Tongue
Thanks for these explanations, stop believing that I know more than you do Smiley

By the way: I can't compile TEK's new version because it is looking for mingw-specific libraries (-lboost_system-mgw48-mt-s-1_55 -lboost_filesystem-mgw48-mt-s-1_55  -lboost_program_options-mgw48-mt-s-1_55 -lboost_thread-mgw48-mt-s-1_55). Sure, I could manually edit the makefile, but that's not the point of compiling from source to manually edit and I don't know how to commit a tekcoin-qt-linux.pro file (which should be updated manually everytime the tekcoin-qt.pro file would be updated).

I am using Manjaro (Arch-based, not a Debian-based Linux)
Quote
Makefile:418: recipe for target 'Tekcoin-qt' failed

Can you confirm step 2 and step 4?

step 2, yes. Step 4, it's always good to back up your wallet, but incorrect transactions will simply not confirm. If you're resyncing from zero or the uploaded blockchain, it shouldn't matter.

OK guys, please confirm I am right

A. Salvaging
1. We finally have a working TEK again - no more forks - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=320404.msg8565376#msg8565376
2. Do NOT start up the old client. Get the latest version instead.
3. Do NOT use the older blockchain. Sync everything from scratch (so, delete your /tekcoin folder EXCEPT your wallet, of course). A blockchain is available to download somewhere (please point the URL, update the OP
4. Ideally, use a backup of your wallet, not the latest version of your wallet, which might be on the wrong chain from the past ten days
5. While you're at it, create a tekcoin.conf file like this one
put this in tekcoin.conf (thanks to oto3):
connect=74.196.63.95
connect=75.90.67.140
connect=68.229.91.209
connect=108.59.185.202
connect=98.236.102.116
connect=75.91.15.240
connect=94.156.230.246
connect=64.188.164.77

6. Prepare to get a much lower interest rate than before, since NVCS finally kicked in. This means the poor sod like me who expected this interest rate to continu for some time are out of luck. But this also mean that, hopefully, the price will go up. Do NOT sell at these prices. Yes, some people will dump hard, let them dump, Alternatively, you can try short selling, of course. Whatever happens, TEK should rise in price again, but not immediately
7. It would be good to check your wallet. Repair wallet and --salvage wallet would make sense, but more explanations needed here
8. Update the OP with instructions.

So, please confirm step-by-step (e.g. 1 is OK, 2 is not, 3 is OK...). Until I get a OK satisfactory answer on steps 1 to 5 included (and optionally step 7 too), I won't start my wallet.

B. Observations
1. In the future, dev should use #tekcoin (IRC @freenode) instead of bitcointalk. This is much faster for debugging.
2. I would welcome a debriefing. What went wrong (biomech wrote up a nice summary), what can be done to improve the process (PDCA/Deming wheel)

64.188.164.77  leave this one out. It's my ip, and it's going to go away tomorrow most likely, as I'm moving. It's a good node until I take it down, so no worries, but I'd take it out of your configuration to avoid any problems when I go offline. I'll probably be offline for like a week to ten days, or very spotty if I am online, and then I'll be a solid node again.

David, you probably have a better understanding of this than I do, but I think the NVCS adjusment will calm down in a few days, so if all of us use coin control and stage our staking, it likely won't go nuts again, barring further catastrophe.

Thundertoe or Defaced can correct me if I'm wrong here, but I believe they are going to release another wallet with checkpoints and exclusions very soon, but it will NOT be a mandatory update as this last series was because the checkpoints and exclusions will be the only change. That being said, there ain't no good reason NOT to update when that happens.

I personally think IRC is a disease, but in this instance, I have to agree with your assesment. Either that or a skype room for the duration of any emergency.
1428  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin Mandatory Update! 40%+ SuperStake in 30+ days on: August 28, 2014, 05:12:13 PM
Cryptsy is having issues with TEK anyway... but here's something that everyone needs to understand right now:

DO NOT MAKE ANY WITHDRAWAL TRANSACTIONS AT THIS TIME!!!!!!!!!

If I'm wrong in saying this, someone please feel free to correct me...

I'm not even going to do any coin control transactions for a little while...

Probably wise for a little bit. Cryptsy is working with the devs, so they'll be straight soon if they're not already, but I'd honestly either wait for them to announce it or send them a ticket.

On the difficulty issue, I'm pretty sure it'll even out over time. Remember, it was a block being solved in the future (but accepted by the chain for unknown reasons) that caused all this grief in the first place. That screwed the difficulty calculations all up. the fix lowers the threshold for recalculating difficulty for a short period, then makes it so the first cause can't ever happen again. I would have expected it to be worse, honestly.

Those of you who have not staked yet, it actually might be a good idea to not let it stake for a few days, let things settle down. My own were a mix. some blocks staked pretty high, others, as y'all have noted, were significantly low. All in all, I'm happy with it. A little hit now to get everything straight is minor.
1429  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [RE-ANN][TRK] ★★ Truckcoin ★★ Pure PoS ϟ 200% Annual Interest ϟ Wallet v0.9.4.1 on: August 28, 2014, 08:42:08 AM
being working on a mac os v 0.9.4.1 wallet upgrade, but not promising anything by now as i have an older os version (and an older model of mac) with a lack of xcode support. need to reinstall mac os to get it done.
thanks noise23!

New wallet v 0.9.5.0 is coming soon and it will be kinda mandatory update because I've changed checkpoints and alert PubKeys and PROTOCOL_VERSION.
(We have no private keys for the old version and the original dev didn't answer my question regarding these keys so it's better to change them to be on the safe side).

Work in progress Smiley

Hopefully it comes out before monday or after a week from monday Tongue (I'm moving, won't be able to upgrade.) Looks fantastic. Very nice work, sir!

This is a lovely coin and the DEV is great, just to let you know QIBUCK COIN invested in HYPER and we purchased a big bag to stake! Smiley. It's at a steal on POLO.

You seem to like all the coins I like Cheesy Maybe you should tell me which ones you don't, so I can avoid them  Cheesy

I'm good with Zerostake too. Though it just occured to me that it might be better stylized as Zer0stake Cheesy

PLEASE FIX THE CLIENT SO THAT IT REFUSES CONNECTION WITH OUTDATED CLIENTS !!!!!!
WILL YOU GUYS NEVER LEARN Huh

It's happening. Defaced is adding checkpoints and making that happen soon. It's currently being tested, but he went to bed. We needed to get a stable chain first, as I understand it.

Xhabit's pool is on the correct chain, so it's good to use as a reference for the block height right now. Thundertoe is contacting the people that run the block explorer. http://ppl.port-x.de/mops/public/index.php?page=statistics

Bio I know you have been working very hard to get things resolved.
But without these fail-safe measures its hard to get a stable chain.
So I honestly don't understand why these were not implemented before releasing the fixed wallet.
Currently I would not back up those words we have a "stable" chain.
So I strongly advise anybody NOT to make transfers and wait just like I did until the chain is indeed stable.

I'm kind of stuck in the middle here Tongue

Which is ok, I volunteered. I'm not a good enough programmer to make a decent "hello world" program in anything other than basic, bash, and batch, so I pass on what I've gleaned and hope for the best.

so, the basic story  is that the original error took almost everyone by surprise, because when it happened Tek had been working flawlessly for a long time. Thundertoe didn't know where it went wrong (he's an ok programmer, but not a genius like some of these people), but figured out WHAT went wrong. Tranz figured out where. Defaced, who is friends with Thundertoe and I, and a Tekhead himself, volunteered to help out. We all had a lot of other shit going on at the same time, and frankly, mistakes were made. Along the way, several other people volunteered to help and  review code. Somehow nobody realized the lack of checkpoints and exclusions of old wallets until after the fact. In testing, everything worked fine, but we didn't realize (hindsight being 20/20 it's obvious now) just how much competition there would be for staking. Shit broke.

Y'all have been very patient, and even the angry accusations have come across more like venting. For that, I'm quite proud to be part of this community. We may get a bit contentious, but we get things done. ANY other coin that I've been involved in would have had it's community come unglued over far less. Other communities could learn a lot from this.

All I can say, from my POV, is that while mistakes were made, they are being corrected. Hopefully by tomorrow there will be a checkpointed and exclusionary wallet. And if not, it won't be long. Thanks again, all of you, for making this as easy as it can be given the circumstances. Should such an instance arise again, we'll do better at the fixes. Hopefully the coin will run on rails like it has for a long time now once again. Meanwhile, don't be too eager to sell, and we'll beat this bitch into shape.
1434  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TRDR] Trader Coin - Decentralized - POD 4 out 5 - Twitter giveaway on: August 28, 2014, 06:37:47 AM
a'ight, all you exchange mongers...

Draw reins!

Tell me, what is it about this coin, right this minute that would make it attractive to anybody who isn't just a crypto junky?

Seriously. I'm not saying this to be mean, or disparage the coin or it's community. I'm saying it to hopefully get you to think with the big head.

As I see it, right now, TraderCoin has three things going for it, and only one of them that will matter outside this forum without some development.

1. Tomcat. He's a stand up guy and a respected developer. Does what he says, and generally when he says he will, even though it causes him trouble. That's a major asset.

2. Scarcity. Not many coins will be produced by mining, and there is no proof of stake. That makes it potentially valuable.

3. A cool name that can be applied along side practically any good or service.

Now, what's it's major deficit?

It's on CCEX on it's second day. There's no base. There's no development beyond making it function. Y'all are too eager.

Before I get jumped, this has nothing to do with CCEX. I'd say the same if it were Bittrex, Polo, Cryptsy, Allcoin, Coin-swap, you name it. It's simply too early. OTC trading would be better. Better, trading for goods and services. New coins get killed if they hit exchanges right away. It's not an immutable law, but it's a good bet.

Work on something besides dumping the coin, and it's value will rise.

You have a very good point. Maybe I pushed to hard to get us on an exchange so soon. However I hate over counter trading and feel much safer buying coins on an exchange so I would thing others feel the same way. But it has caused us to focus on the price too much and it might turn future investors away because they think the coin is dead already. One of the problems is is that this coin is meant to be traded and even though the price is low it could help spread out amongst more people. We want to have a large community because we will be able to feed off of each others Ideas to push this coin forward.

It wasn't pointed at you, specifically. Just a general statement. It's something I see a lot. The coins that are long term successful, with few exceptions, do not get on the exchanges right away. Those that do spike for a minute, and drop, then everybody bails. After that happens, the real merits of the coin become more apparent. BTC didn't go that route, there were hardly any attempts even.

Exchanges are useful, but they tend to be the sole focus of most coins, which leads to an early death. Merchant support will drive the price way further, if it can be made to happen.

So I'd be happy to set up a node if someone would be so kind to give me a how to
if you have your wallet in sync and connected, you are a node. Just post your IP if you want people to use it as an addnode in their .conf file.

1437  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin Mandatory Update! 40%+ SuperStake in 30+ days on: August 28, 2014, 05:13:44 AM
I have 3 TEK wallets, two of them have been updated and are syncing, appear to be ok. The last one, which is of course the main pool wallet gets this when I try starting it:

************************
EXCEPTION: St13runtime_error
CDB() : can't open database file wallet.dat, error 12
tekcoin in AppInit()

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error'
  what():  CDB() : can't open database file wallet.dat, error 12

Any ideas? Running the latest source pulled from git on Ubuntu.

I had this happen once a while back. I ended up removing wallet.dat until it was fully synced, then deleting the new wallet and replacing it with the old one. It worked, but I don't know what caused the error. Hope it helps.

Another option could be to start the client with -salvagewallet, just being sure that the wallet.dat file is backed up. (I know you know that, Tom, just for other eyes Cheesy )

i thought 40% was the max, which means as more stake it goes down?  Dev can confirm, but lot of people staking would increase the diff? Lowering rewards?

That is incorrect. It should be more stake for a longer time. I haven't calculated mine, but by eyeball it looks about right.

Can't recall who asked for it due to sudden brain fart, but my address is: BmmkHdBj3V9CuGqGPMfwXAB8NRWYiMjmCB

Too my knowledge, nothing has been changed in the staking formula, just in how it calculates difficulty. Defaced will know better on that than I. But that is my understanding of what changed. However, as screwy as things got, it may have dropped some weight somewhere. That's a guess, so don't quote me on it as any sort of fact Tongue

Defaced and Thundertoe just wanted to say congrats on the hard work and getting everything sorted.

Don't forget to include yourself in that, press. And Argakiig,Tranz, me, and a few others who I'm not sure want to be mentioned Cheesy Not bad for a volunteer effort, even if the first attempt went nuts.
