Freedom has limits. You are free to do anything you want, as long as it doesn't go against the will of others.
Simple enough. You want to kill someone, you kill them, and are prosecuted by the law. You say you lost your freedom, but freedom has its limits.
rodeoclownicp has promised to not insult or attack anyone else verbally on this forum, be it me or someone else. I have not insulted him, I have just debated with him, but he just threw insults at me.

However, I have forgiven him, and I consider this matter closed.

Begin somewhat offtopic rant.

I think, pbmining, that this is the first time I've severely disagreed with your stance. If you changed that to as long as it does not HARM others I would accept your axiom. But for the former to be true, that would state that you must conform in word, deed, and thought with the majority REGARDLESS of merit. This paradigm, while common, has led to the greatest atrocities in the history of our species. None other than Thomas Jefferson, the author of the First Amendment, argued that it was indeed intended to protect the absolute right to hold UNPOPULAR opinions. Unlike me, he championed Democracy. And even so, saw the folly of what you just stated. I, as I've pointed out elsewhere, see unfettered democracy as the most tyrannical system possible IN IT'S VERY CONCEPTION. If we are to follow the precept of the "will of the majority" on anything, we must look to to it's ultimate consequence. Thankfully, most people are significantly smarter than that. But Let's look at it, shall we? This is what Democracy truly means if not fettered by other systems. Ten people get together and decide that one of their number is to die. There need not be reason nor justification, it's the will of the majority. If that person objects to being killed, by the precepts of democracy HE is wrong, and THEY are right.

On a more practical nature, every democracy, however conceived, has eventually failed or become so decadent as to render it non functional. It happens the day after the majority realize they can pick the pocket of the minority with impunity. The very existence of so called minority protections and "hate crime" laws demonstrate that not even the proponents of this screwball system actually believe in it's ultimate merits.

There are limited, VERY limited, circumstances in which a democratic system is of value. Organizing a society, and regulating it, is simply not one of them. History has proven it over and over again.

End rant.

On topic, I'm glad the whole thing is resolved. Things got a little heated over basically a disagreement on method. It happens.

EDIT: I was guilty of what I attributed to others. Rather than sanitize it, I'll note my error and apologize. My response remains the same, but it was Byte411 who I quoted, thinking it was pbmining. I'm usually more careful in pulling the trigger.
1462  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Advertising spam is not allowed on: August 26, 2014, 06:15:31 PM
Advertising spam is not allowed, this includes mining pools, gambling services, exchanges, shops, etc. Mining pool ops should make a thread within the Mining section of Alt Currencies. Most OP's already link to pools available so advertising your pool is unnecessary and leads to too much spam. Exchanges, shops, gambling sites, etc, should make a thread in the Marketplace section of Alt Currencies.

Hi

what does "etc" mean ? every URL ?
Any kind of third-party service that is posted by another person (rather than the starter of the thread).
So, If I develop a service or product denominated in a coin I support, I cannot post it here??? And you claim that you are here to support cryptocurrencies?

I will revise my opinion based on this response. This isn't merely arbitrary and capricious, this is deliberate malice. Has Theymos become so wealthy that he wants to drive all custom away? Or were the moderators and admins just smokin' something REALLY mentally harmful?
You can post it in a dedicated thread for that specific service, as in made by you or in a thread like "All services accepting this coin" in the Marketplace (Altcoins) or Mining (Altcoins) (depends on the service). If you want a service added to a coin's OP, you can send a PM to the dev.

...which was addressed and explicitly rejected as invalid in my previous post. What you aren't addressing is WHY you want to restrict commerce. Over the last year, altcoins have become relevant. During that same year, it seems that this forum has been trying very hard, in a passive aggresive womanly manner, to get the alt section to go away. I've largely stayed out of it until now, but the trend is obvious.

So, I ask again, has Theymos become so wealthy that he no longer wants or needs our custom, or have the admins and mods been hitting the pipe too hard?

Because frankly, the stated reasons for this arbitrary, capricious, and deliberately harmful ruling DO NOT match extant reality in any fashion. 2+2 does not equal five, and never will outside the halls of government. Yeah, from time to time, especially on a new launch, pool operators have gone a bit nuts. But if THAT is what concerns you, when openly fraudulent companies work their frauds in plain sight under your nose without comment from the mods in any meaningful fashion, one HAS to question your ethics and motivations. Or assume you're on some ugly drugs. Or both.

Hey guys, tons of shit smears all over the place. What is innovative about this coin and why should I buy it?

nothing technically innovative, but it's a coin designed to be traded. It also is rather rare. 1 coin per block, will take years for there to be substantial holdings. The idea is a coin for trading, specifically, and scarce enough to be valuable for that. The other idea is something for a community to get behind and develop services and avenues of commerce without the explicit support of the dev, leaving him to concentrate on keeping the coin working good.

It's a serve. Will you return it?
1464  Economy / Services / Re: PB Mining -- 5 year mining contracts! on: August 26, 2014, 05:01:37 PM
If they threatened to ban you for expressing opinions you should
publicly post the accusation, no company has the right to behave like that.

If you have the right on your side you should shed some light on it.
I think the issue here is that rodeoclown has a long history of displaying rude behavior on the forum.  He has been previously warned about his behavior.

The first amendment is the right to free speech in the United States.  I don't think anyone is being censored or punished for expressing a differing opinion in this particular situation.  There may be forum rules about treating each other with respect or courtesy that he violated, but I can't find them at the moment.

A temporary account ban on bitcointalk might be in order if a moderator thinks that is best, but I don't think his pbmining account should be affected in any way.  That would not be fair, and that could send a chilling message to other customers.  rodeoclown has already apologized, it sounds like he may have learned a lesson, and I think most people have accepted his apology.

Rodeo panicked. He asked me to contact them (and I assume some others of you, though I don't know), and I did. According to their reply to me, it was a technical issue, not actually locking him out. Both pbmining and Rodeo have informed me that it's fixed. They did yell at him for being overly rude. I suspect he's rather young and excitable. Aside from his flame war with Byte411, I've always found him amusing, and sometimes informative. So I think singling him out would be wrong. There are genuine trolls on here quite often. An excitable kid is not a big deal in my arrogant opinion.

As to the right of free speech, it carries certain responsibilities. I'm going to speak contra Oliver Wendell Holmes here, and say that as a human being with the power of speech, you most assuredly DO have the right to scream "fire" in a crowded theater. By any legal theory I can think of, you will not be censured for this, even the ones that Holmes illustrated. You will be cited for incitment to riot, creating a public nuisance, reckless endagerment, fraud, all manner of things STEMMING FROM your abuse of freedom of speech, but you'll not be charged with yelling fire.

Freedom of speech does not mean that your exercise of it carries no consequence, it just means you have the right to say it. All rights come with duties, and the duty of a speaker is to be accurate (where appropriate) and guage the effect of their speech to the best of their ability. As a man with a very hot temper, I frequently rewrite my posts before they go public. Is this censorship? I'd have to say both yes and no. It's self censorship, in that I am unlikely to personally attack anyone and do my best to avoid it. Even when I feel like I ought to grab a troll by the throat and rip their larynx out. In a forum, where you type everything, you have the luxury of time. You can edit sufficiently to get your point across WITHOUT deliberate personal offense, or do it such a way that they can't prove it Tongue So in the end, it's not censorship, but rather personal decorum. Those who do not or cannot control themselves are not considered to be adults outside of political spheres.

And lest somebody go dig up my (long) past on the 'net and before, yes, it took me a LONG time to grow up based on those words.
1465  Economy / Services / Re: PB Mining -- 5 year mining contracts! on: August 26, 2014, 04:49:31 PM
It is  bothersome that someone can not state their opinion with out someone calling them a plant. I am not a plant, I am mining on PB just like everyone else. Some of you have your terms mixed up also. R.O.I. means return on investment. Spouting off that your never going to reach R.O.I. is foolish. Your going to reach R.O.I. each Sunday no matter what. Breakeven  is when you got back the BTC that you paid for your contract. That is also going to be reached, most likely in near 26 weeks if you bought in June or July. If you live to this Sunday you will reach R.O.I.  Waiting 26 weeks more or less you will reach breakeven eventually.  I am not a plant, customer #6606.

AMEN!!! See my sig. The horrible abuse of the term ROI has been driving me crazy since I came here. IRL I have worked in disciplines that require you to know the difference. Buying a candy bar and eating it will not get you a monetary ROI. Pbminging? I got my first realized ROI the sunday following sign up. It was some months later that I broke even.

Hi,

        I'm Mark @ AllCoin.com.

I upgraded our wallet to v1.0.1.5-ZS, and download the blockchain. But it still blocked at block #141790.

Please give me some suggestions. thank you.

Hi Mark,
on the previous page in post #2452 I provided the list of the active nodes. You may add them manually.
Cheers,
uki

Thank you very much, where's CryptoGir, I contacted him many times, but no response.

We're all wondering that. The decision has been made to move forward without him. Hopefully he'll come back, but if not, we'll make this happen anyway.

The difficulty is impossible to predict, and so profit is impossible to predict as well.

For example, nobody saw this coming:

Aug 08 2014    19,729,645,941    5.30%    141,230,307 GH/s
Jul 25 2014    18,736,441,558    8.08%    134,120,673 GH/s
Jul 12 2014    17,336,316,979    3.08%    124,098,191 GH/s

Before this difficulty wind-down, rodeoclown was having a tantrum -- even though we were offering a very attractive entry point at that time.  If you don't like our prices and you don't think you will make a positive ROI, don't buy.  We believe the difficulty hikes will soon be back below 10%, since the total network hash rate is getting extremely large, and for that reason I believe our prices are still competitive.  If you expect 20% difficulty changes, then don't buy.

Also, you are free to express your concern about the price, but calling everybody stupid is really getting old.  I respect the opinions that everybody has, but when there is name calling involved I recommend that everyone click "Report to moderator" so that we can put a stop to it.

I tend to agree with your assessment, but I still do my calcs at 15%, for safety. Over a period of months, I think that is a safe hedge. I keep track to the best of my ability with what new hardware is coming down the pike, and the simple fact is that the huge difficulty jumps simply cannot continue unabated. Given the power costs of older equipment, I am gonna stick my neck out and say that within the next 8 months there will be at least one period where difficulty drops. I say this because the newer process nodes are simply not there. 14nm is not going to be supporting bitcoin or scrypt asics within 6 months, even if the design houses are ready to go. The Foundries are not, unless somebody can get an inside deal with AMD or someone like that. 20 nm is a short life process, intended from it's outset to be an interim solution. 28 nm is already reaching the end of it's life cycle, and the 45nm chips, while cheap to produce, are too power hungry for the long term.

I suspect we will start to see SHA256 alt coins start to get huge difficulties as people switch away from bitcoin. When that happens en masse with the older equipment, it will have a modest but noticeable effect on the bitcoin difficulty.

Hello Techheads!

Just a note that if you check my wallet on the support list during the next week to ten days, I'll likely not be online with it. I haven't rescinded my pledge, I'm moving a rather long distance, and it will take a bit to get everything back on line.

As soon as I'm able, I'll be back on the list Tongue

Meanwhile, I like the graphics and such that are coming down the pike. I think the coin is doing well. Don't worry too much about exchanges and such right now, we're building. Rome wasn't built in a day, and only pump and dump coins worry too much about the short term.

You can post it. Just not in the "Announcements" forum. Post it in the Marketplace or in its own Thread in the appropriate forum

Which means if it relates to a specific coin, it will be lost.

Tompool uses primarily NOMP, stratum-python for a few specific coins that don't cooperate, but I'm almost sure TEK is on the nomp side of things.

And btw, about pools being current -

12:32 jaggard: you did catch the tek wallet update right tommo?
12:44 Tommo: yep did that last Friday or so

OK, I give up on a multipool for TEK.  Unless someone is willing to write their own pool software, this just does not seem possible now.  Only MPOS works for a TEK pool and you cant do switching very effectively at all with stratum-python.

If the block submission error is ever solved I will gladly finish my setup of a multipool that pays out in nothing but TEK.  So someone let me know if it ever gets fixed, im headed back to old reliable BTC.
If Tom got it working with NOMP, I'll pay him some tek to post up how. I couldn't do it, Defaced couldn't do it and he's good, and several others who had tried. Most coins Nomp works with without issue, but TEK APPEARS to work but doesn't ever break a block. Has the error that jk9694 found in the error logs.

I support tomcat, so I'm going to mine  this for a bit and see how it goes. I was one of the guys he talked to about c-cex's troubles, and I'm saying in public they weren't real. I compiled the coin without issue, all three binaries, first try. I think they are trying to compile it with an old version of Boost or just fucking something up. Source works just fine.

As for being hard to mine, I don't see it that way. slow to mine, yes, but it's scrypt. Not much power draw, and readily available cheap ASICS. There are lots of high capacity coins out there, and not many low. The low cap coins seem to do pretty well. My favorite coin is TEK, and it's even "harder" to mine, though granted it has a very high Proof of Stake.

Let's face it. all of these "innovations" (which I confess to being fascinated with) have not yet elevated a coin above bitcoin for general utility. A coin who's purpose is being a coin is not a bad idea at all. Aside from being first, Bitcoin is the least innovative crypto out there. TRDR can work.

As for Tomcat's premine, 5k coins is not huge, and he's not a guy given to rash decisions with his money. Look at his work with Fire, and his help with TECH and HyperStake. He ain't gonna kill his own coins.

As for exchanges, Criminy, peeps, the coin was released YESTERDAY. If your attention span is that small, you need to seriously reexamine your premises.

Thanks for the support. They said they will try to fix it. Lets make sure we do not bash C-Cex for having an issue. They came to me saying they had an error and have not posted it as FUD. I just wanted everyone to know we will be on CCEX soon but had to fix an issue on their end.

Yeah, that came across a little pissy. I didn't mean it that way. We all make mistakes. I was just trying to say that the source is good.

Guidestar.org   Check it out before donating!!

Less than 30% of your money donated gets used to help people with ALS or R&D for ALS. Less than 30%!!! 0.30 cents per 1 usd. $30 per $100 usd. The person that runs ALS.org gets PAID!!! $320,000 IN 2012. The most recent tax filings. The % paid to run the "charity" *cough* operating costs, are greater than the % given out to help! A true travesty!!

It's a shitty charity!! This "Ice Bucket Challenge" is ridiculous!

Guidestar.org   Check it out before donating!!

You know nothing about 3rd sector organisational structure clearly.

$320k is not that much for director of a charity.

Charities are immensely complicated and require professionals to run them like any organisation.

Every $ donated helps the cause, but the 70% you quote makes the 30% spent more efficient.

Calling it a shitty charity and the ice bucket challenge ridiculous is hugely ignorant.

I'll second this. I've worked for a charity (I shan't name it, but it's huge) that really is a scam. They donated less than 5% to the cause they "supported". 30 percent direct is actually pretty good. The regulatory hoops to operate a 503(c) registered charity are immense, and the workforce is only partially volunteer. Problem with volunteers is that they are under no obligation. Guy getting paid has to show up and work. So that's the model they follow, almost without exception, and the officers make a fair living. Just because the charity is set up to make a profit and THEN deliver it does not mean they aren't doing the right thing. You'd be pretty happy with a 30% dividend on you holding in a for profit, wouldn't you?

EDIT: To the idiots crying scam. I personally know Chris Franko. He's a stand up guy. I also had an uncle, Rollin Putzier, who died from ALS. At the time of his death, he had survived with the disease longer than anyone on record. He was my favorite uncle, and I'm convinced that he lived as long as he did simply because he was too damn stubborn to die. But it was tough watching him deteriorate in his final years. This is a cause that's close to me. I personally have donated thousands of dollars to ALS research over the last two decades and will continue to do so as I have the ability. I particularly want to see research into nanotechnology and nanosurgery, because it might reverse the ravages of the disease while they figure out how to eradicate it.

Not sure why he would stake his reputation on people knowing he's working with RAW but no word here in ZS.... Makes it look like he abandoned this project.

Where are we getting this? His last login to the forum was on the 4th!
