Kishan is not available and Jaiswal replaced him.

Having inform players in the squad is always a good sign for any team but the format is different and sometimes the transition can be tricky, let's hope for the best.

Oh! I forgot he got hurt in IPL. Jaiswal is a good replacement and this kid wants to build his name. I assume he would give his best to make a permanent name in the team.

I understand the format is different to IPL. The only difference for a batter is to change his technique. No more reckless shorts and play with lot of patience. The pitch would be different but an inform batter can play on any pitch.

Considering the present form of all Indian batters I am assuming India would give a tough competition to the Australian side. The Indian team is somewhat brand new and to utilize this team to its fullest would be captains job.
Small correction on my previous comment.

I rechecked the squad and found out Kishan is in the squad as well, he reached there along with Rohit. Jaiswal is on stand by list replacing Ruturaj (he's getting married).

KL Rahul
He's ruled out due to the hamstring injury.

~snip~

I won't be surprised if by 2031 they extend the IPL to a 4-months window, with 20 or so teams competing in it (similar to the English Premier League). Bilateral cricket has lost its relevance as a result of one-sided matches. India is emerging as the sole super power in cricket (equivalent to what the United States is, as far as basketball is concerned). As a result of all this, the ICC will also lose their power and will be dependent on the scraps being thrown by the BCCI for its very survival. And with each passing year, the demands from BCCI are going to go up.
20 teams in the IPL by 2031 (or even 16 teams) seem a stretch to me and a very unlikely thing to happen. We have a fixed model of 10 teams till 2027 due to media rights.

In the best possible scenario, BCCI might add another 2 teams in the next cycle, given they continue with the 4 year cycle formula instead of 8 year cycle (it's not profitable).

White ball bilateral seems useless to me, only because we have an ICC tournament every year.

Actually, CSK become the favorite when they reduced the overs otherwise things could have gone differently.

I also felt that Hardik mistakenly took an unnecessary break after the first 4 balls. Mohit was on song and was accurately banging a yorker after yorker but Pandaya went into discussion mode after that and broke Mohit's concentration. It's a very small thing and helps teams sometimes but it surely backfired last night.

I don't know... I thought that it was Mohit who went to Hardik first. Anyway social media is going crazy with Rivaba Jadeja right now. She was wearing traditional Indian attire during the match and after Ravindra Jadeja hit the winning runs she and her daughter went to the ground to embrace him. When the family members of all the other CSK/GT players were in western outfits, Rivaba was standing out as the odd one. Anyway, it was odd to have a Tamilian Sai Sudarshan top-scoring for GT and then a Gujarati scoring the winning runs for CSK.

https://twitter.com/superking1816/status/1663532593256738816

Bowler going to skipper happens only when he/she wants some fielding changes but they didn't change anything with the field setting so i think it was the other way around.

She's comfortable in every outfit and we shouldn't forget she's a politician and member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly as well. Haha Gujjus embracing Tamilan kid and Tamilians going gaga over Gujju Rajput, that's the beauty of IPL and sports.

The friendship between MSD and Jadeja has always been in the news. This is what Jadeja changed on his Instagram after the win.

True, before that Thala was in Nidra Awastha with deep breaths and possibly praying (last 2 balls) for a full minute and then this wholesome moment.

Watched every bit of post match drama, it was late af but worth it because of these precious moments. Credits to a broadcaster for capturing every moment.

IPL is over and now waiting for 2023 ICC World Test Championship final to start. Only a week or so left for this event to commence. A lot of pressure would be on Rohit Sharma. He has been struggling with his form and has not be able to deliver his capataincy to the best of his capabilities in ICC tournaments. Good news is that Kholi, Gill, Kishan and Rahane looked impressive in IPL. Expecting them to deliver their best in the finals. India's bowling is now one of the strongest USP. I doubt we will miss Bhumrah in the finals.
Kishan is not available and Jaiswal replaced him.

. And they will be up against Australia, whom I consider to be one of the top test teams at this point (and probably the only team that can challenge the Indians in the longer format). Bumrah's injury is going to be a concern, but I guess Mohammad Shami and Mohammad Siraj will be able to trouble the Australian batsmen. BTW, is Pujara going to be in the playing XI?
The condition will definitely favor the Aussie as it's SENA but we shouldn't forget that this Indian team has already beaten them in 4 consecutive BGT series (home and away). IMO the only pressure is that it's the ICC tournament and we are certified chokers in knockouts and finals.

Pujara will simply walk into playing XI, virtually no doubt about it.

What a thrilling final match!!

No one expected CSK to win the 5th IPL trophy. The last two overs, I mean the last two balls were so intense. Sir Jadeja again proved why he is such an important player for the Indian team.

When the rain started I had a feeling that GT will easily win the finals. I never ever imagined that Jadeja will snatch that win from the hands of Hardik Pandya.

Sai Sudarshan another a 21 year old batter was the reason GT got those 214 runs. The highest ever target in IPL final history. Sad that his team was not able to capatalize his power hitting and agressive batting.

Strategic time-out is the key time for the sponsors. As said atleast we've got a 15 overs match, if the rain have continued for little more time it could've been reduced to 5 over match. CSK lost its first wicket Gaikwad and CSK is 74-1, getting caught by Rashid Khan. Second wicket of Devon Conway to the bowling from Noor Ahmed. Impact Player Dube have come into the crease and players need to be careful running between the wickets as we can see quite often players losing the grip.
Yeah it is but fans are waiting for 2 days to just complete the finals and it's t-20 lol

2 wickets down but CSK still seems favorite to me, only because the run rate is under control and the fact that they still have wickets. GT's bowlers need to run through their middle order.

May be super over?

Surprisingly Dube is struggling tonight.

CSK 5 time champion loading.....

Rain did ruin the momentum of finals but we are having at least 15 overs match, instead of a washout so that's a relief.

I reckon the match equation is now 49-51 in favor of Chennai as they are chasing with 10 wickets in the bank and to some extent wet ball due to condition.

BC 12:36 am and these guys still going for strategic timeout, just to show ads.

1209  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 29, 2023, 02:47:20 PM
Chahar might have dropped the cup by dropping Gill so early. He dropped an easy catch and has been pretty expensive so far. GT is on top at the moment. Both Saha and Gill are scoring well currently.

If rain interferes at some point later, the pitch would turn from a batting pitch to a bowling pitch very quickly.

Edit: Gill gone thanks to some brilliant work by the legend himself. Jadeja and MSD combo is easily one of the best combos across all formats.
Dolly catch dropped and even Jadeja fumbled with the runout chance, that's the pressure of the final.

But one man is rock solid behind the stumps. He's 40 old guy and his reflexes are still working fine lol. Anyway, fingers crossed for the run fest.

1 last match. Am supporting both teams though I am leaning a bit more towards CSK since I am an MSD fan. Excited!

Same with Prabhsimran, he had only 1 good inning and i also believe Punjab is not the right franchise for any talent because they have shitty management.
Agreed. Shami was alright in Punjab, but he is a monster in GT. Another team that has shitty management is SRH who are some of the most corrupt insects on the planet. Just look at how Vijay and Rashid changed ever since they transferred to GT.

Edit: Screw rain!
Team environment does matter for everyone and sadly Punjab, SRH, and to some extent KKR (coaching staff) and LSC (owner) also come in the same category. Delhi also heading in the same direction.

We do have almost 3 hours left before the match is declared a complete washout. I guess we have a reserve day for the finals.

^^ Checked some articles on this topic and was surprised to know that Jason Roy only earns £60k annually from the ECB contract (incremental contract), which includes only the ODI format, he's dropped from the T-20 setup.

This is not justifiable to any Player and Roy happens to be an excellent White ball cricketer. Yeah, he's not at his peak but he does have demand in franchise cricket.

Adding more names to the list and all of them are 20-22yo.

-Dhruv Jurel, WK batsman from RR
-Nehal Wadhera, left handed batter from MI
-Tilak Varma, another stylish left handed batter from MI
-Suyash Sharma, leggie from KKR
Those are some excellent additions. Suyash was excellent for KKR during the first half of the season, but I didn't see him much after that. Wonder what happened to him. Jurel performed well on certain occasions.

Varma and Wadhera literally carried MI along with Sky in some matches. They were the primary reasons why they were able to chase down 200+ scores quite easily(Not Green, Rohit etc).

Prabhsimran was another great find in this season. He has great potential.
We'll definitely see Jurel in the action soon because he's a middle order batter with amazing hitting ability and also Wicket keeper. Might be too early to say but i think if he performs in another season then selectors will possibly look at him as 1st-2nd choice WK in T-20 format.

Varma and Wadhera got really lucky to get into MI's setup. These guys know how to nurture young talent, i hope MI keep em under their wings for the next 3-4 seasons straight.

Yeah, Suyash was doing but later took some beating as well but it's alright. He needs to do more hard work tho as leggi's life is not easy in professional cricket. Same with Prabhsimran, he had only 1 good inning and i also believe Punjab is not the right franchise for any talent because they have shitty management.

It's tough to figure out the true highlight of IPL 2023 since there were so many amazing performers. Personally, I felt that these guys stood out the most:

- Jaiswal
- Rinku
- Gill
- Dube

Among them, I would choose Rinku as the highlight of this season primarily because of his consistent ability to play well against close to impossible odds.

^^ In ECB vs Player leaving context it's not related to funding or the declining of cricket popularity at all.

In this scenario, it all comes down to the player's contract. Some players get a full year's contract and similarly, some get a 2-3 months deal depending on the white ball series and county's gigs. Jason Roys falls into a White ball contract.

Jason Roy is just the tip of the iceberg. Already it is reported that 6 of the regular England players are in talks with IPL franchises to pull out from the ECB contracts. And I am sure that many of these players are having regular contracts with ECB at this point. ECB simply can't compete against the money power of IPL. In the long term, this will impact the ability of teams other than India to conduct bilateral tours. More and more national players will retire from international cricket and focus solely on franchise cricket (similar to what Trent Boult is doing now).
Yeah but all of them are white ball players and hardly anyone has any Test future.

For example, Jofra's test career is almost finished due to injuries, the best he can do is play white ball cricket. Trent Boult is almost 34 and i guess he took the right decision.

Agree in the long run it'll definitely affect cricket but that's how the market works. And ECB should be the last one to complain, someone should remind them how these very same guys were sucking out every talent from other countries.

233 in the semi final is pretty secure score. MI needs to bat incredibly well to chase down this target. Surya and Green are keys but the Rohit-Kishan duo also need to step up and give their best performances without wasting any deliveries.

Gill the Prince of Indian cricket and the only contender for the true heir of Virat's legacy.
This match is pretty much over if you ask me. Placed a live bet on GT though the odds were pretty low a couple of minutes ago. Gill was playing well throughout this season, but he went berserk in recent matches scoring century after century.

MI will probably score above 200, but they won't reach the target thanks to Rashid, Shami etc.
Kishan got injured, kinda meme injury.
Green retired hurt because of Hardik.
Rohlt went cheaply.
Tilak's cameo ended

Surely not a good look for Mumbai. They needed everyone to have a crack tonight but it's not happening atm. The run rate is under control tho but still needs a blinder.

Nice to see that we are not witnessing complete washouts or overcuts in knockouts despite heavy rain. BCCI seems to relaxing a lot of rules, like not thinking of cutting overs even if there is a 2 hour delay, which is nice considering we have no reserve day.

MI is a big team and knows how to handle the pressure of knockouts but still, Gujrat looks favorite to me. I do want CSK vs MI finals tho.

He doesn't even bat at this number whenever he plays for Baroda but for some weird reason, he or maybe management thought that he's solid for the top 3.

Well, Rahul wasn't there, that's why LSG reached the playoffs, otherwise his only contribution would've been shouting Go Green (dot-ball initiative of BCCI) Grin

Lucknow Super Giants had the worst selection policy for any team in this season of the Indian Premier League. They gave just 4 matches to Quinton de Kock, as Kyle Mayers was selected ahead of him. And then Mark Wood was dropped in favor of Naveen-ul-Haq. This stupidity reminded me of the Mumbai Indians, who refused to give a single match to Dewald Brevis. Irrespective of who is captaining the side (KL Rahul or Krunal Pandya), LSG made the shittiest decisions for any of the franchises. It surprises me that somehow they managed to reach the playoffs.
I won't blame Andy Flower for this but throw some nice words to Gauti, who happens to be an excellent cricketing mind and extra nice words to high management (these guys are big time assholes).

Everyone's first choice was De Cock, no doubt about it but he was unavailable at the start and IMO in his absence Mayers filled his boots impressively. Having said that in hindsight we can argue Quinton's inclusion in the knockout although it was a really tough choice.

^^
ECB's revenue almost tripled so i don't think that's a valid argument.

English player Jason Roy and a couple of other players as well are now entertaining the idea of dropping their central contracts for T-20 Gigs, most of them are white ball cricketers tho.

I guess in the next few years we'll see many players will take this route. Make sense if they are not making it into national teams or getting old.

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/jason-roy-planning-to-terminate-ecb-contract-to-play-major-league-cricket-in-the-us-1378294
This change was expecting because as things were going in last few years surely many more players will be done this same specially from top boards because now playing for national team is never been profitable for players, so they need to think about this which will bring good changes from boards as well as having legislation about this all.

First we have from West Indian players now from English and soon will be others even I am not afraid about Indians because they have enough money from IPL, but changes are never been stoppable by anyone and as we are having few good leagues like in the USA, UAE and few more countries many international players will be on verge of Roy line, and we will have steps for going like soccer and reduction in other formats as well.
It's still a work in progress theory but writing on the wall for everyone to see.

I reckon single format players (white ball) are more vulnerable in this situation, vulnerable from the cricket board's POV not players or franchise. Trent Boult already said no to the central contract btw.
