DC's bowling report card looking horrible today. Everyone got punished by CSK's openers Gaikwad and Conway, they literally took no prisoners.

So far only Sakaria has respectable numbers but it might change as he will bowl the last over. Poor DC and skipper Warner!!

PCB is the only board that tries to get some answers. The distribution is fair, and most have got good increase in the allocation. This could help with the improvement. However the difference between what India received against the other teams is really big. PCB had delayed its PSL, maybe if they've started it earlier they could've got good revenue by now. Because in terms of cricket supporters we were able to see a good number in Pakistan.
Sethi not particularly opposing the bigger share of BCCI. He and many raised an eyebrow at the distribution formula and rightly so.

Quote
Those criteria - "component weightings", the model calls them - are:

-Cricket history
-Performance in both men's and women's ICC events over the last 16 years
-Contribution to the ICC's commercial revenue
-And, an equal weightage for the status of being a Full Member

IMO, the revenue allocation should have been purely based on performance in ICC tournaments (this is what other sports bodies such as the FIFA does). This would have given a higher share to teams such as Australia and lower share for the BCCI. The logic of allocating 39% of all the funds to one country doesn't make sense. In the long term, this will ensure the death of cricket in most of the countries outside South Asia. Already we are witnessing the signs in South Africa, West Indies and associate nations such as Netherlands.
Yeah, it would look okay if there is only 1 WC after every 3-4 years but we have ICC tournaments every year. We already know why ICC love this new setup, including boards (except BCCI).

So the safe decision is going to be moving the Asia Cup to a neutral place. At first, I thought England or Australia is not going to be a good idea. But on second thought I believe it is not going to be bad honestly. BCCI might actually want that as it will give them a good experience outside the subcontinent conditions.
Asia Cup in Europe and Oceanic countries when ODI World Cup is scheduled in the Indian subcontinent. Not a wise decision IMO.

Well, UAE is always an option. Don't think anyone is going to oppose that idea, to be honest. Pakistani should understand that the situation is not right for Pakistan to host the Asia Cup right now. For actually any tournament as a matter of fact.

So, I don't think Pakistan will stand by their word for not participating in the world cup if the Asia Cup gets moved to another venue. It is true that Pakistan is not going to get the benefit that they could help get from the home ground. But it is what it is.
Yeah you are right, no one is going to oppose UAE as a venue but if i am being honest most of the tournaments scheduled there seem quite boring because of the toss. It's almost certain that "win the toss and win the match scenario".

It happened with the IPL, Asia Cup and T-20 WC so personally would like to see SL or Ban (or maybe together) hosting the Asia Cup.

PCB seems to be desperate to increase their revenue and a series between India and Pakistan can be life-changing for them. But the problem is that such a series is not important for the BCCI, who are swimming in wads of money (IPL media rights, increased allocation from the ICC and now the next cycle of bilateral media rights is up for auction). The silver lining for PCB is that their financial condition is set to improve, as the ICC has increased allocation by 116%, from $16 million per year (2015-23) to $34.51 million per year (2024-27 period).
Yup, only desperation nothing else.

BTW he also raised his voice regarding the ICC revenue model, to his credit he did acknowledge that BCCI deserves a big share. His objection focus on the revenue formula, which actually looks weird on paper.

Has anyone have any updates in the Asia Cup? In Pakistan a lot of drama is going on. Rambo has termed Najam Sethi as "mentally unstable" after the latter proposed to move the tournament to England. Anyway, how can a tournament that is specific to the Asian continent be moved to an European country? The BCCI is still firm in its demand that the tournament needs to be moved out of Pakistan, while the SLCB and BCB have stated that they are OK with the hybrid model that is proposed by the PCB. Former Pakistan player Salman Butt has come up with a bizarre proposal BTW. His suggestion is to have the tournament to be held in England, with 6 teams from Asia (those who already qualified) and 4 from Europe (England, Scotland, Ireland and Netherlands). He claims that this "Euro-Asian cup" will act as a rehearsal for the ODI world cup.
Frankly, anyone who occupies the PCB's chair becomes a mentally unstable individual.

The amount of interviews Sethi Sahab gives to every media (except pak media) nowadays indicates the same. It shows the desperation and the funny part is BCCI hardly takes anything seriously.

Although they did say no to "Australia as host" regarding bilateral tests series (Ind vs Pak). Context ** Sethi gave an interview regarding Australia hosting India vs Pakistan.

For starters, Raman Lamba comes to my mind. There might be more names if we dig more.

He was playing in Bangladesh's local test match, the spinner was bowling and he was fielding at a forward short leg and got hit on the head. He died after a few days
Raman Lamba incident was back in late 90s and it was a club match and there were no recording of the incident as far as i remember.

Mark Boucher the South African legendary wicketkeeper unfortunately ended his career when the bail dislodged and injured his eye and he was not wearing any sun glasses or protection and after that incident every Wicketkeeper uses sunglasses and protection while standing up to the stumps. Funny thing is that the Mark Boucher incident happened in 2012 and ICC enforced that rules almost a decade later while all the fielders in close are already wearing enough protective gear.
That guy was asking for one example and I happened to remember Raman Lamba's name because I heard his example so many times in local cricket, regarding safety. I guess anyone who played cricket in a local tournament (leather ball tourneys), does remember his name.

Tbh never heard Boucher's story and wasn't aware of that.

In many matches I have seen when a medium fast bowler comes to bowl wicket keepers and batsmen are batting without helmet which is very dangerous because the most sensitive part of our body is our brain is likely to occur. Such rules are usually made to avoid that accident.

Tell me if you have any evidence of the mishaps that happened in international cricket where any fielder is severely injured who is standing close to the batsmen without an helmet ?
The wicketkeepers, batsmen, and fielders are well aware of their security and they always wear helmets when necessary without the advice from ICC.

SRH should have easily reached 200+ runs after Klaasen's remarkable innings, but the remaining batsmen messed up as usual. Siraj did a fantastic job restricting them below 190 by only giving away 4 runs in the final over.

RCB can easily win this if their star trio perform well. However, they have a bad history against Hyd who is basically their arch-rival which is why it's 50/50 at this point in my opinion.
Yeah, they should have, last over got wasted entirely from their point of view. Siraj keeps stepping up and doing an incredible job for his franchise.

They are on the par score, considering it wasn't a tough pitch but it does feel like a competitive score so there might be some possibility for SRH if Bhuvi does something special in the powerplay.

First of all as I understand this rule only apply on a fast bowling and not on the spin bowling. The batsman already wear helmet when a fast bowler is bowling so there is nothing change in this part however the wicket keeper usually stand very far away and there was no need for him to wear the helmet at that time.

It will be interesting to know how the Wicket keepers around the world will react to this new ICC rule which will just create more irritation to them rather than any safety 🛟 🦺
.
This is from ICC's briefing
Quote
-when batters are facing fast bowlers
-when wicketkeepers are standing up to the stumps
-when fielders are close to the batter in front of the wicket.

It's not just limited to Keeper or batter, as you rightly pointed out that every batsman and Wicket keeper already follow this because of safety. It's just ICC included this in the rule book and made it mandatory.

Also, this rule mainly focuses on fielders (when spinners are bowling), if they are close to batters like short-leg, silly point, silly mid off -on. These are the most dangerous areas to field, there is a reason you only find rookie members of the team standing there with few exceptions.

CSK and Lucknow will be watching this match carefully and all their fans will support SRH. These 2 teams will qualify automatically if RCB loses tonight.

Throw Mumbai in this mix as well, as they are also dependent on other team's results (more or less). RCB looks favorite but in case SRH bowling clicks against Kohli-Faf, Maxwell trio then they have a good chance of winning the match.
1251  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 18, 2023, 05:31:56 AM
^^ If SRH manages to produce some upset tonight then RCB's situation at the table will become very tricky.

It Would be really funny if RCB lose one of their remaining matches and it's very much on the table, considering their choking history. True RCBian fans would agree.  Grin

I agree overall Rohit is an incredibly nice guy that's why he got the tag of Brohit but at the same he did get irritated when Hardik got the T-20 captaincy for bilaterals, not at the management or Hardik but at broadcasters, when they portrayed the T-20 team is under Hardik.
Anyone in his position would get irritated. You were the captain of T20WC team, and you were solely blamed for the poor performance of your team. Then you are asked to leave the captainship. What can you expect? You are bound to get irritated. Still, he is one of the well-behaved players of the Indian team. If he leaves his test captainship, then who do you think would replace him? After KL Rahul, I do not have a clue.
I don't think anyone criticized him excessively for the T-20 WC fuckup.

Unfortunately, atm we don't have many candidates for the test captaincy. Iyer is a good leader but he's injury prone, Gill is way too young for this role, Pant shouldn't lead the team as well, as you don't want to put too much pressure on him. In recent times there is no bowling captain culture in the Indian team. Rahane was also a good leader but his place is not safe anymore. KL already got sacked, tough times in the leadership department.

The ego war between Dada and Kohli messed up this situation. Kohli could've remained the captain for a couple of more years easily.

Don't think that Gill will be able to perform down the order. He is suited to the role of opening batsmen, and doesn't have the consistency while batting down the order.
He's suitable for the top 4 in the Test team. In ODI he likes to bat at 3 (Similar to u-19 WC). There was no slot for the 3-4 position in the Indian team (test), that's why he started batting as an opener.

They should if they want to extend their test career for a couple of more years, it's more important for Rohit. Virat is fit so he can still go on.

If money and their commitment to their franchise are a concern then they can play IPL and there is no problem at all but almost everyone rightly believes that young blood should chip in the national white ball setup. Having said that i hope BCCI takes these 2 guys into confidence and talk, unlike the Gangully-Kohli drama.

No one will complain as long as these senior guys score runs regularly. At this point, only Virat is scoring runs and others are being inconsistent, including Rohit, Pujara and Rahane. And it makes zero sense to retain non-performers in the test squad, when so many talented youngsters are waiting for their chances. The very fact that Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sarfaraz Khan haven't made the test debut yet, points to the uselessness of performing in the Ranji Trophy competition. These players have been performing consistently in domestic cricket over the years. It doesn't make sense to retain senior players year after year, despite not scoring runs.
Rohit is not doing that badly as an opener. He made an okay contribution with the bat in BGT against Australia and all of those runs came in tough pitches, not flat decks. Also don't forget that series (except the last match) was low scoring series for everyone.

Again i don't think we have a backup of Pujara yet unless management moves Gill to down the order. Changes in the squad will follow soon, just give it time, it's bound to happen in a year or so.

Just wow!! Well done Mohsin, an excellent exhibition of death bowling tonight.
Mumbai Indians missed out on an easy win. After scoring 19 runs in the 19th over, Mumbai Indians failed to score just 11 runs in the 20th over. In other words, Mumbai Indians needed 11 runs to win in the last over.

Mohsin Khan bowled brilliantly in the last over. The yorker manages to bowl three balls out of six deliveries. Because of his great bowling in the last over, LSG is still dreaming of the playoffs. If they can win the last match, LSG will definitely qualify for the playoffs. If for some reason LSG can't win the last match, they still have a chance to make it to the playoffs.

Congratulations to LSG for pulling off a great win in an important match.
Yeah agree, they should have win this match but have to acknowledge the bowlers of lucknow.

I only watched the last 6 overs and I was under the impression that Mumbai will just walk through over them as they were in a comfortable position.

~snip~

Bishnoi, Khan and Stoinis are the ones who won this for Lucknow. MI are in trouble now because teams like RCB etc could steal their spot in the playoffs.
Playoff calculation just got spicy for top teams now let's wait for SRH, Punjab or other lower rank teams to win their remaining matches.

Won't mind if it comes down to run rate.
1256  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 16, 2023, 05:54:30 PM
I am no fan of Lucknow but jeez this is some quality death bowling, not an easy job when it's a pressure matchup against good batting lineup.

2 big guys are batting for Mumbai and they are international players so there might be some chance for them but Lucknow's bowlers deserve some credits here.

Rohit is a nice guy! He would gracefully retire from international cricket after the World Cup.

I'd prefer if Virat and Rohit take official retirement from T-20 and ODI (After WC) and focused on Test cricket and IPL.

The level of fitness that Virat is in, I doubt he will retire in a couple of years. Rohit has been prone to injuries and doesn't looks fit so I think he might retire from International cricket first. I doubt these guys will announce thei retirement. I think when BCCI starts dropping them then they might do it.

They both are out of T20 format next will be ODI and  with it test will also come.

Virat may retire from the test format, but he is not going to give up T20Is and IPL. Rohit is already 36 years old, and I don't know for how long he will continue to play in multiple formats. His performance was not satisfactory during this year's Indian Premier League. If Mumbai Indians fail to qualify for the playoffs, then there is a very good chance that he will be removed from captaincy. BTW, his recent test performance is not that extra-ordinary. During the last two years, he has only one test hundred to his name (and no half centuries) in 9 innings.

New rules in cricket
ICC is going to introduce three new rules in cricket from June Those rules are,
1. Before making this rule, if the umpire had doubts about any decision, then the umpire would directly resort to the third umpire and the on-field umpire would give a soft signal according to his possibility, but this soft signal method is no longer there in the new rules of the ICC. If the umpire has one percent doubt about giving a decision, he will directly refer to the third umpire.

2. The second rule is entirely for batsmen and wicket keepers. The second rule states that batsmen and wicketkeepers must wear helmets while bowling fast balls.  This initiative of the ICC to ensure the safety of the players is undoubtedly commendable.

3. And the third rule is that if the batsman scores a run without the ball hitting the bat, then that run will be added next to the batsman's name. To put it simply, if Virat Kohli is bowled by a free hit in the World Cup match between Pakistan and India, then the ball gets four on the stamp and that run is added to the team's run but not added to Virat Kohli's run. From now on that run will be added to the batsman's side
Good decision on the "soft signal" as it was a very flawed rule. Imagine a fielder claiming a catch on the boundary line and it's not a clean catch (he/she is not aware) and they started celebrating, followed by the umpire giving a soft signal out, to overrule on-field decision third umpire needed a conclusive decision. These guys should also look at the "Umpire's call" in the context of LBW.

For some reason, ICC has removed the Free-hit-bowled-scenario from their release. https://www.icc-cricket.com/news/3345795

I think India needs a really good leg spinner who can also bat. I know it is hard to find. After all, someone who is a really good leg spinner probably is not going to be good at batting. That is a rare breed to find.
Being a leggie in test cricket is hard, especially in the Ranji system, not everyone can become Shane Warne. Also, keep in mind that even the late Shane Warne was a big disappointment when facing Indian batters and he only bowled against a handful of Indian batters.

Now think from a local Indian leggie's perspective, the poor guy has to face a full season of Ranji against countless batters and it's not an easy job. One of the reasons we don't see many leggies around the Indian test team setup as after some time these young leg spinners move onto white ball cricket.

Anyway let's not forget the fact that players like Virat and Rohit are all in their mid 30s. Within the next 3-4 years, Indian selectors need to find replacements for them.
I'd prefer if Virat and Rohit take official retirement from T-20 and ODI (After WC) and focused on Test cricket and IPL.
