7581  Other / Meta / Re: The ignore button @ theymos... on: May 02, 2019, 04:15:26 AM
I know I am not the only one who has thought this, Maybe it could be 30 days? 14? whatever it maybe, just a forced period of time that the ignore stays in place for.
I don't think it is a good idea to automatic control Ignore button effects. Even with what LoyceV proposed (10 merits earned to be automatically un-ignore by the system), it won't make sense too. What happen with cases that abuse merit system? 10 merits won't be hard to abuse if they are abusers. So, you will have to read their shitposts again, and click on the Ignore button again. That's a boring cycle.
If you know  a guy, whom ignored by you for months ago, then you are curious to see that he or she actually changed posting habit or not. Simply click on Unignore to check. If you satisfy with changes, keep it unignore, whilst if you don't satisfy with minor changes or without change in posting habit, click on Ignore button again.  Cheesy
Ignore > Unignore (to check potential changes of posting habit) > Maintaining Unignore / Reverting back to Ignore.
7582  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ZEC] ZCASH - All coins are created equal. Discussion Thread (Unofficial) on: May 02, 2019, 04:02:30 AM
Is it time to move discussions on ZCash to this topic? [ZEC] ZCASH: Discussion
I think that the Announcement topic of ZCash (ZEC) should be used for announcements made by ZEC team on updates, and the topic should be kept as clean as possible. Discussions usually result in abundantly trash posts, then it will become hard to follow progress of ZEC.
Maybe, since today, I will discuss about ZEC on this topic.
7583  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Best way to Practice the English Language [Speech and Writing] on: May 01, 2019, 08:54:14 AM
Don't you think that once you have learned how to write, you wouldn't get to speak? Speaking and communicating with someone who is good at it could help you develop the consistency that is needed for you to be efficient in English. The big effective reason that I could think about when doing this method is that you are hitting two birds with one stone. Speaking, like how you are going to communicate IRL and forming thoughts like in writing instantaneously.
Sorry, if you misunderstood my opinion due to my bad expression. Speaking is important in any language, because when we learn a language, the final objective is using that language to communicate with others, so speaking is important, really important. However, what I meant is we should focus on the forum only. It is the same as the forum is the bitcoin forum (despite of the fact that after early years, the forum added boards for altcoins), so things related to bitcoin are more essential things in the forum. And over years, till the born of Grin coin, we have only option for forum payments, that is bitcoin.
Within the forum, there are two utmost important things related to English: Reading and Writing.
I wish you catch my opinion this time.

Best,
Tran Thi Dzung
7584  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is it really a "Do or Die " time for Ripple [XRP]? on: May 01, 2019, 07:59:25 AM
it has always been a "do or die" scenario for XRP since it is a useless pump and dump coin
When more people say one coin will be die or fall to zero soon, not only about Ripple, but also for all coins (bitcoin, and altcoins), it is time to see them moving up. Last day, we saw Ripple suddenly pumped, and once again, the theory seems to be right, with one more solid case from latest pump of Ripple. Personally, when I saw such news appear everywhere, I seriously of accumulate more coins (of course, I have to spend time to investigate what's going on with this project).
It reminds me that months ago, not too far from now, when bitcoin fell and stucked below $4000,  people said that it can fall to zero. So, what actually happened with bitcoin, so far? I think the same strategy to spread news, and FUDs applied on Ripple. Consequently, whenever I see such news, not only on Ripple, but also on other good altcoins, I believe it is a signal of rally (very soon after news released)
7585  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Tutorial on How to Sign a message on your MetaMask with MEW. on: April 29, 2019, 05:37:54 PM
Do the admins accept signed ETH messages as proof of ownership of BT accounts? I think they only accept signed BTC messages, anyone knows?
No, because they only accept bitcoin signed messages. This thread isn't made for that reason like a proof of ownership on lost bitcointalk accounts but it's a proof of ownership of your ERC20 wallet address. I just want to defend this thread of mine about  signing of message.
You made a great guide, but it does not relate to account recovery procedure in the forum. I still don't know the purpose of secure, and prove ownership of Ethereum address in the forum, if you simply want to prove it for use cases outside the forum space.
Anyway, I thank you for this great guide for community.
7586  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ☑☑☑[ANN][BSD] BitSend - online since 2014 - Bittrex - Litebit.eu on: April 29, 2019, 05:12:11 PM
Is LIMXDEV doing an exit scam?

A guy who is potential scammer won't have chance to come back, given by admin/ staffs. Furthermore, Bitsend, in reality, has given away lots of funds to community through year-lasting airdrops. What did you mean by judging such generous give-away coin like Bitsend, as a scam coin? Investors, who bought at all time high have to accept their wrong decisions. No one forced them to make their decisions to buy BSD at its all time high. They likely overexpected on future price of Bitsend, as well as Bitcoin, but they unfortunately expected wrong. That's all.
7587  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: April 29, 2019, 04:38:55 PM
Again Crypto market facing red sign, ethereum and other top cryptocurrencies following downtrend, don't know when bleeding will stop.
They might stop when bitcoin stop falling around $4800. When people expect bitcoin to break $6000, the coin has obviously to fall back to where it came before breaking $5200 weeks ago. Personally, bitcoin will be hardly to break $6000 till the beginning of 2020, when its halving come closer. From now till the end of this year, bitcoin won't change too much, and it might 'stably' fluctuate around $4800 to below $6000. I wish that my buy orders with Ethereum will be filled up next 24 or 48 hours.
7588  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: {Facts} Disadvantage of promoting signature campaigns that encourages spamming. on: April 29, 2019, 04:20:35 PM
Amazing to know there is a manager applies time gaps between posts in order to count as countable posts. Burst posting is one of prohibited kinds of post in the forum. It is one of violations, and I am not sure, but if someone seriously violates it from time to time, it will be considered as spamming, and account might be nuked, in the worst case.
This is what izanagi narukami does in the campaigns he manages (30mins gap) and I believe it's really helpful in putting post bursting and spamming at bar. This is even better than saying maximum of certain posts count daily because someone could do that daily count within an hour and be done for the day.
7589  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DOGE] Dogecoin - very currency many coin - v1.10.0 on: April 29, 2019, 01:55:44 PM
I would like to trade Dogecoin in BTC pair, rather than USD pair. However, you shared a chart and two indicators crossed each other. This one is truly not a good signal for Dogecoin's movements in short term. This signal supported by Bitcoin falls to day. Just less than 1 hour ago, bitcoin suddenly dropped to nearly $5200. In the worst case, Bitcoin might flash crash to $4700 to $4800, so let's see (if that happen) how altcoins, including Dogecoin , will react with such drops from bitcoin.
7590  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Grin | PoW Mining | Electronic transactions for all. Community driven. on: April 29, 2019, 05:56:40 AM
Also, the posts about people making web wallets just have me rolling my eyes, painfully backwards.

Not your keys, not your coins. Don't ever trust web custodial services.
Web wallets are the most terrible type of crypto wallets, in my opinion. Especially those web wallets provide by un-known, un-reliable providers. Especially web wallets are available with new-launched coins. In general, I always avoid to use web wallets, and don't spend my time to consider who are providers of those wallets. Losing control of private keys or disclosing them to third parties always one of the worst ideas to do in crypto.
7591  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: April 29, 2019, 05:47:10 AM
Somebody please tell me, when will starting PoS on ethereum? I heard about end of 2019, but I am not sure. Maybe you have reliable source, that will be very nice  Smiley
And what you think about PoS on ethereum guys...
The Ethereum team have not disclosed the exact activation day of Proof-of-Stake on Ethereum network. Maybe they have actually had it on their schedule (exact day, I meant). The activation day depends on so many factors, development progresses of Ethereum team; and the communication initiatives to announce and let community prepare all things for the upgrades (PoS activation). It's good when all (most of members of ETH community) fully prepare for the upgrade to avoid unexpected terrible hard-forks due to the PoS Activation.

In other side, today Ethereum likely failed to break the resistance at 0.03 BTC and fell down to below that price.
7592  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Best way to Practice the English Language [Speech and Writing] on: April 29, 2019, 03:12:43 AM
I think one way to greatly practice your English is speaking. If you are going to practice it might as well do it in speaking and writing at the same time. I think that's a great way to do it.
Generally, English speaking skill is the most important one when people learn English. Because, the final goal of learning English is communicate with others, and without speaking, we will be lack of the most effective method of communication. However, I mentioned in a much narrower range, in the forum, people don't need to speak (actually the bitcointalk.org has not had features like livestreaming, etc. so far) so the first two important things for members whom want to improve their English and communicate better in the forum are: Reading and Writing.
Practice two skills first. Then if they want to move further (in case they have to make direct talks via Skype, etc.) they should learn and improve their Speaking skill.

7594  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ZEC] ZCASH - All coins are created equal. Discussion Thread (Unofficial) on: April 28, 2019, 07:16:53 PM
That's true, I'm long-term bullish on ZEC as well. Things will probably only get better from here, as the halving of ZEC is approaching. However, the "extremely efficient" ASIC miners have been ruining the value of ZEC for a long time, and I think that they could continue to ruin it for a few more months. These days, it's like "another day, another all-time low" for ZCash hodlers. Roll Eyes
ASICs always bring bad things to coins, to miners. They usually reduce profits for miners (due to more dominant hashrates from ASICs, that in turn increasing difficulty), and force prices falling down dramatically. However, it won't last forever, after months of corrections due to ASIC-side-effects, coins will find their stable price-range, and all things will be fine, coins will rally from their bottoms, and ASIC-side-effects won't last forever. You should not worry too much, fella.
7595  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: April 28, 2019, 07:06:01 PM
< ... >
Such kind of bad news usually results in negatively things. Another minus point for Ethereum in near future is bitcoin poor momentum to break the $6000, so it might fall back. Fortunately, by now Bitcoin has stood solidly above $5300, but who knows will the support around $5000 of bitcoin be broken next days? If the strong supports broken, crypto market will turn into chaotic situation, and I don't think Ethereum will be only exception of panic sells. Ethereum price, currently is a good one, cheap, but in crypto we can not simply say the coin is cheap, and it won't fall deeper.

- Days from 24/1/2018 to 18/2/2018 truncated due to highly potential outliers; and days after 22/4/2019 truncated as well due to incomplete week (the 2019w17);
- Statistics presented in the post are for truncated dataset

(1) Potential outliers are days that have intraday total merits beyond 177 or 1115;
(2) Median of intraday merits over the period is 630;
(3) 50% of observed days have their intra-day merits range from 528 to 763 (the interquartile range);
(4) Friday [in GTM time] is the day over weeks has lowest intraday merits in terms of both median and mean, at 571, and 615, respectively.
(5) Monday [in GTM time] is the day over weeks has highest intraday merits in terms of median and mean, at 666, and 738.
(6) There are 26 potential outliers in total, and there is only three potential outlier days happened in early weeks of 2019, on 09/01/2019, 14/01/2019, and 27/3/2019, at 1161, 1127, and 1249, respectively.
(7) Minimum and maximum of intraday merits (full dataset) are 312 and 13018, on 11/2/2019 and 24/1/2018 respectively.

Time series plot

Basic statistics:
- 50% of observed weeks (65 weeks) have total intra-week merits above 4513, whilst the rest 50% of them have total intra-week merits below 4513. 4513 is the median - p50.
- 50% of observed weeks have total intra-week merits fluctuated in the range from 3945 to 5306 (the interquartile range, from p25 to p75, in raw statistics below).
- Min - max: 3065 - 30949.

Code:
. tabstat merit, s(n mean sd p50 p25 p75 min max)

    variable |         N      mean        sd       p50       p25       p75       min       max

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Potential outliers:
Code:
. di 5306-3945
1361

. di 1361*1.5
2041.5

. di 5306+2041.5
7347.5

. di 3945-2041.5
1903.5
It means that potential outliers are weeks that have intra-week merits beyond 1904 or 7348.
How many weeks are potential outliers?
Code:
. count if (merit >= 7348 | merit < 1904) & merit != .
  7
7 weeks are outliers, in total.
List of those seven weeks:
Code:
. list merit week if merit >=7348 | merit <= 1904
