There is also the edge to edge effect where once price enters the cloud it can be drawn to the opposite edge.

This is true. We have already passed thru the majority of resistance and into the cloud structure. What we are going to encounter this next trading session is the lagging span running into the conversion line. If that is breached and the price remains near these levels it would be pretty bullish imho. If not, yah..expect a retraction.

Important question about the ichimoku cloud. If we pass through it, will the white buffalo be waiting to greet us on the other side?

I have spent many months nude in the wilderness cawing at eagles and communing with ancient sages in hilltop monasteries in an attempt to understand the default trust system.

I still do not. And care even less.

+1 WOsMerit

I care as much about that trust thing as I do about the merit system. Which I use sorta like a "like" buttom and it made me hero and stuff, but other than that is just a feature of the forum which is even more meaningless to me than a %1 volatility of Bitcoin which is what I really care about.

+1 WOsMerit

Welp those are the changes to how ratings are ascertained.

But I have never learnt what the Default Trust system is supposed to rate.  Anyone care to ELI5?  Is this for OTC trading?

Back in the day when escrow was king...a trust system was sort of handy to have. Today these OTC channels are quite strongly developed imo. Suppose it might be useful for some.

The flip-flop report

Some observer effects have been noted and I am now concerned that this "consolidation" period could turn into a correction downwards.

1 to 5 trillion dollars flowing into Bitcoin is a modest estimation  Shocked

I think so too.

Quote
Today in 2018, there is approximately 2.5 billion oz of Gold Bullion and 4 billion oz of Silver Bullion in the world. At current gold spot prices, there is about $3.3 trillion USD in gold bullion in the world, while there is just under $70 billion USD in silver bullion being held by global investors and governments.

Respectively both these silver and gold bullion valuation sums (especially with silver bullion) are dwarfed by the total valuations for debts, real estate, fiat currencies, and derivatives worldwide.

2,500,000,000*$1,282.38=$3,205,905,000,000 total gold valuation

$3,205,905,000,000/17,470,963 total bitcoins in circulation = $183,501.62 valuation capturing 100% of the bullion market.

50%=$91,750.81
25%=$45,875.40
12.5%=$22,937.70
6.25%=$11,468.85
3.125%=$5,734.43
1.5625%=$2,867.21
0.78125%=$1,433.61

We have captured and hedl just over 2% of the bullion market, down from nearly 10%?..we still have plenty of room to grow. Does a 10% to 20% share sound unreasonable within 10 years? Not at all.

I would also like to add that this is just a small slice of the larger equities market that is shown above. Gaining market share throughout broad money and multiple asset classes seems more probable that not to me over the long term.

Taking even a small percentage of these markets will see bitcoin grow by orders of magnitude.
Monetary supply of 120 trillion = $6,868,539.53 per coin
Just taking the top tier of the derivatives market equals roughly 1.4 quadrillion = $80,132,961.19 per coin

I would be quite happy with even .10 of percent of $1,400,000,000,000,000

$1,400,000,000,000/17,470,963 = $80,132.96 per bitcoin

Meh..dont mind the idle ramblin's..it helps me put things into perspective sometimes.

It’s a significant PR win for Bitmex.  I have somewhat mixed feelings about it given that XBT is a synthetic.

The Bitmex Research tends to be very good.

I do wonder about the volume on Bitmex though.  I have had slippage of up to $75 on relatively small orders on big moves.  Never had that on other exchanges. That degree of slippage concerns me, makes me feel I am being front run by their trading engine.  It certainly doesn’t feel like the most liquid exchange in Bitcoinland.

Small fibs included at no extra charge. Support is fairly strong at the 0.5 short fib. It could be tested near term. On the upside, I would expect resistance to be tested a couple of times this week at the 0.786 short fib. Main resistance is still at the 0.382 medium fib. Breaking upwards of that will set the fomo alarms off for sure.

Didnt someone post something about a cup in a cup in a cup?   hrmmm..

My gut tells me that from here there is only direction that we are heading - upwards and onwards  Grin

It does seem that we are still in a recovery phase for the now. Having clear goals no matter what the markets are doing is usually helpful some say.

So you're saying BTC at around $2k in 2020? Mmmmmkey.....  Grin

Couple of things to keep in mind.. During corrections there tends to be large movements. Those twists in the clouds are like faults in the Earth if you will. When there is slippage it can be quite dramatic. The other thing is that the scale is logarithmic so small movements above can be seen as extremely large below and vise versa.

I believe there will be events between now and then that will make things much clearer for all of us.

In case you are curious about the Ichimoku Cloud here is a short primer.

Quote
Tenkan Sen - moving average of the highest high and lowest low over the last 9 trading days. (Highest high + Lowest low) / 2 over the last 9 trading days
Kijun Sen - moving average of the highest high and lowest low over the last 26 trading days. (Highest high + Lowest low) / 2 over the last 26 trading days.
Senkou Span A - the average of the Tenkan Sen and Kijun Sen, plotted 26 days ahead. (Tenkan Sen + Kijun Sen) / 2 plotted 26 days ahead
Senkou Span B - the average of the highest high and lowest low over the last 52 days, plotted 26 days ahead. (Highest high + Lowest low) / 2 over the last 52 trading days plotted 26 days ahead.
Chikou Span - the closing price plotted 26 days behind.
Quote
Ichimoku - Senkou Span A And Senkou Span B

==========
Senkou Span A - 1st leading line

The average of the Tenkan Sen and Kijun Sen, plotted 26 days ahead.
(Tenkan Sen + Kijun Sen) / 2 plotted 26 days ahead

The Senkou Span A, also known as the 1st leading line, is a moving average of the Tenkan Sen and Kijun Sen and is plotted 26 trading days ahead, i.e. into the future. It is primarily used in combination with the Senkou Span B to form the Kumo (cloud), to indicate probable future support and resistance levels.

As price tends to respect prior support and resistance levels, time-shifting this line forward gives a visual representation of how the price on a date relates to support and resistance from 26 trading days prior.

The trend is deemed to be bearish when the Senkou Span A is below the Senkou Span B and bullish when it is above.

==========
Senkou Span B - 2nd leading line

The average of the highest high and lowest low over the last 52 days, plotted 26 days ahead.
(Highest high + Lowest low) / 2 over the last 52 trading days plotted 26 days ahead.

The Senkou Span B, also known as the 2nd leading line, is a moving average of the highest high and lowest low over the last 52 trading days is plotted 26 trading days ahead, i.e. into the future. As such it is the longest term representation of equilibrium in the Ichimoku system. It is primarily used in combination with the Senkou Span A to form the Kumo (cloud), to indicate probable future support and resistance levels.

As price tends to respect prior support and resistance levels, time-shifting this line forward gives a visual representation of how the price on a date relates to support and resistance from 52 trading days prior.

The trend is deemed to be bearish when the Senkou Span A is below the Senkou Span B and bullish when it is above.

Looking at the weekly cloud with different settings. These setting were developed for legacy trading markets and dont fully take into account the 24/7 nature of crypto and bitcoin. Changing these settings can produce radically different looking charts but the information is the same. It is just a matter of learning what is going on in the chart and using it to your advantage.

We still sit below the tenkan sen and kijun sen and continue to be drawn towards them. This coincides with us being below the TK, as now the trend is to follow the span B which is the upper part of the cloud now. We are sitting below that 2.618 fib and it looks like it might rise over the next few weeks. The median at the 0.618 fib might be within reach if the market decides to continue to rebound.
9/26/52/26

As we creep along the underside of the cloud a little upwards and sideways followed by a little more upwards until April. July oh my..
18/52/104/26

The cloud is showing a twist or change over in the end of April it looks like. As shown on the the two previous charts a twist can indicate extreme volatility. Also of interest is the spike in mid Summer followed by a long cold Fall. Then came Winter.
18/52/104/52

Look at and use multiple sources of data and try to paint a coherent picture is all you can do. And most important of all, is this is subject to change without notice...just in case you'd forgotten.

Hi Toxic should the Ichimoku cloud settings be 20/60/120/30, to reflect 24/7 trading? I am not an expert, but I know some traders use these settings for crypto.

Longer(larger) setting can be useful in analyzing crypto and bitcoin in particular. I think it is important not to get locked into any one set as bitcoin's price and trend's can be quiet elastic. Using as many indicator's as you feel comfortable manipulating is probably the best bet. I find that just doubling the standard settings to 18/52/104/52 gives surprisingly good data for trend changes in the long term. Again, find what works best for you. ymmv.

I guess if this is a bull trap...I will happily be first to admit you got me. Looking at longer term indicators seems to show a bounce to $4.8k-$5.3k might be possible.

Looking at short term resistance approaching indicating a possible dip or a corrective move upwards.

Twist in cloud with crossing MACD on the hourly. Long/short ratio's tight.

Changes seem to indicate prices might move closer to $4kish than not as indicators start to narrow.
