4321  Economy / Speculation / Re: Ratings agencies soon to release crypto ratings. on: January 25, 2018, 08:28:17 PM
If it gets added to CoinMarketCap, then it would most likely make an impact on prices.

Seems unlikely when Weiss would ideally like $468 per annum from you to gaze upon their "Independent.  Unbiased.  Accurate.  Trusted" series of seemingly random letters as they're updated periodically.  Also, that's the discounted price.  "The regular cost of a one-year subscription to Weiss Cryptocurrency Ratings is $936".  Somehow I doubt you're going to get it for free on other websites unless they're stealing the information.  I think we're safe on that front.

Plus, CoinMarketCap appear to be far more sensible and knowledgeable than Weiss, so perhaps they should do their own ratings.  They couldn't possibly do any worse.

Nailed it..

B to Cardano and EOS is hilarious.

I agree with you about the what the fuck, regarding Cardano and EOS...

Maybe someone could post the actual report here or link to somewhere that we would be able to see it?  I have not seen the actual report because it is behind a paywall.

More evidence..if they are so fair handed...why the desperate grab for a mailing list and the paywall...now...gtfo.
4324  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 25, 2018, 06:21:02 AM
Even the Weiss rating bullshit from today kind of demonstrates that either smart people do not understand bitcoin or they are purposefully engaging in misleading behavior...

How the fuck do they give Ethereum a B and bitcoin a C+ and Dogecoin a C...   Makes little sense, except that they are making shit up, and in the end, the fact that some of us can see through the bullshit, we are going to continue to invest in bitcoin and we will profit from such ongoing better than others insight.  In other words, some folks are going to get mislead by the bullshit that ended up coming out of the supposedly objective and professional Weiss rating system.
Calling this little piss ant ratings corporation smart people is beneath you JJG. Market makers and big money sent way more qualified(and discrete) individuals out to check out bitcoin long ago. Any claim by these people is suspect imo. I mean for crying out loud these are the same pond scum that caused the recession. While not exact its of the same tainted lineage.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Credit_rating_agencies_and_the_subprime_crisis

The fact of the matter that bitcoin is getting a grade at all..let alone a C+ is absolutely amazing as far as I am concerned. I mean..think about it..this is the coin associated with mtGox..SR...numerous hacks ect ect.

What do you know about this "piss ant ratings corporation"?  Nothing, I would judge from your comments.  Say what you want, but Weiss and his father were pretty much the only honest ratings company to pick apart bank financials for years and years.  To top it off, you link to a wikipedia posting that has nothing to do with Weiss Ratings and instead focuses on the big-boy, for profit and ongoing business relationships, rating agencies, i.e., S&P, Fitch, Moody's.

If you want take shots at Weiss, quote from their analysis and point out why you think they are dead wrong.  Weiss ratings did not 'cause the recession' and they are definitely not part of the "taninted lineage" of ratings agencies that you refer to.

I may have called these Weiss raters "experts" but surely I could have placed quotes around such a designation because I was only referring to them as "experts" in the traditional financial markets sense, and not really conceding that they are true experts, especially in terms of what they would consider to be valuable in a blockchain, and surely, they would not place much value upon decentralization, and that is truely what brings value to bitcoin above and beyond traditional systems and also beyond other cryptos who only feign decentralization rather than actually accomplishing such in any close proximity to bitcoin.

I think we are so used to see disclaimers suchs as "past performance is no guarantee of future performance" type statements we don't hold these people to high standards.
These Weiss raters are indirectly making predictions about what is going to happen, and these predictions are clearly testable.
But I don't see any evidence that any previous predictions were correct. (probably because they only just made up their system)
Until they can prove something like
"If you invested in our top X crypto currencies in the last year you would have made X% profit", then it's just meaningless noise.
Any of us could put together some rules, take a few photos of old men wearing suits on a professional website and then make some recommendations, but we shouldnt give it any weight unless it has been shown provably correct.

But I'm guessing from their currenct set of B rated cryptos, its highly likely that in a years time we aren't going to be giving them much respect.

You know..I was drafting up a reply...but as usual...JJG is so much more eloquent than I. The evidence is right there in the 2nd sentence I quoted.

I staked 4 merit points with Biro Bob.  Do you think I can trust him?

I would insist on escrow.
4326  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 25, 2018, 04:59:14 AM
this is horrible

this is going to turn us all into merit whores

I wish I could help. I just tested my spendable merit... and now I have zero Sad

I just gave you a merit point, so let's see if one more person could give you a merit point, then probably, you should have one spendable merit point from the combination of the two merit points.

I gave you 2 merit points.  I hereby declare this a merit Ponzi scheme.

I reciprocated, but I was hoping that someone would give a merit point to Biro Bob, so we could call it teamwork.

lol..you guys are really good.

Holy shit, we have Merit and sMerit now? How do we pump this? Cheesy

I tried to merit you that comment. But I'm out of merit points. Is there a shop?

When is the fork of these meritcoins and will there be another airdrop?   Grin

"My use of "hope" might NOT have been the best of choices, yet I did not mean anything denigrating about it."
You are not at all. It is intensely hard to look past the Id. I like to call it being a real human being. So easy to say(or type), yet so hard to practice oneself.

"I think that by constantly attempting to practice and then looking at your own approach, you become more and more in tune.."

See below.
"I am not even sure if I understand my own system.."

See below.
"Actually, several of us HODLers and BTC bulls were probably quite shocked beyond our belief.."

Not probably..lol.
"I think that no matter what some of us, including myself, are going to have second thoughts about "I should have sold more" or "I should have bought more" , yet the more that you consider your plan in advance and reconsider and tweak it, the better you are going to be to lessen some of those stresses (that do not go away completely)."

I think JJG..that you are in the same or near the same place I feel I am at. where these "stresses" are becoming less and less relevant. I see them as applied gaming theory. Bitcoin kinda brings out a highlanderish thing...I will be the(most) only one with coin! amiright? I mean..we have to keep score somehow.
"After all these years in bitcoin, I frequently have difficulties attributing meaning to some of these chart (TA) indictators, and sometimes difficult to determine which chart is best for which purpose."

Yes...it is all voodoo and mummery...but..as many things are..some truths(?) can be gleaned I think. What one can intuit I think is cyclical. Meaning at times you are in tune and at times not so much. Mathematics...music...oscillation...vibrations...harmonics.

And besides all that..my doji never materialized..us talking about it...causation and all...

Also people going CRAZY over GPUs. People basically paying $1500 for GPUs and Computer Stores either Out of Stock on PSUs or REFUSING to sell PSUs without a Mobo+CPU combo.

People are mining on Nvidia these days?

yup, for alt coins. then exchange for btc.

vs amd, they cost more up front but are more power efficient in the long term.

Perhaps in the most simplistic terms(which..around here is not really a bad thing).

Its really more to do with the Equihash algo...it runs better on Cuda than OpenGL..so where before..AMD had the advantage on hashing sha-256(way back..pre-asic) and scrypt(not so way back but still a couple years ago) today's markets are filled by both...perhaps I should say empty of both?

-random thoughts-
It comes down to architecture..AMD has been behind machine learning and large data set simulation since CNG became a thing. They have expanded with Vega and Infinity Fabric. Modular SoC are here. Being able to just add compute complexes as needed is a game changer. TSCM..one of the largest nodes for producing wafers...over half of their production is running a 16nm ASIC process..not gpu or flash memory.
Why do I mention this? Because the supply is not just suddenly going to grow. All current cards are getting snapped up at a premium. Something similar happened in 2014.
GPU mining is not going anywhere. Whether or not it will be profitable is up to the market.

Anyone else unable to access coinbase?  Won't load since yesterday on either of my browsers and cant access the send/receive on my phone.

Seems ok. Better flush.
4331  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 24, 2018, 10:56:34 PM

I am calling for a nice little spike within 36 hours.

I'll keep HODLing on my $12.5k sell order for another 36 hours.

If it plunges below $10k, I will find you, and make you my bitch.

No lube.

Whoaza!!!!!!

Prediction making has consequences these days.   Us HODLers, and perhaps especially Toxic, are hoping for a spike in the upwards direction in the coming day and a half.

Regarding my own predicting abilities, I frequently am pretty whimpy in that respect.  I consider that currently we have a BTC  price battle that is largely ranging in the $10k to $12.5k arena, so certainly Bob is betting on price movement into the upper end of the range - which seems to be reasonable, yet really nothing to write home about until we bounce either above the range into the $13ks or below the range, into the 4 digits.  Maybe I am close to 50/50 in my current thinking regarding which way the break out is going to go, and I suppose that if I was forced in either direction, I would give a slightly more favorable to up.. perhaps 51%

No hopium here per say my friend. Just putting forth some speculation. If enough of us throw mud against the wall..some is bound to stick. I actually think you show the most discipline when it comes to having a "strategy" anyway.

And ikr...Bob is out to get me...im scared kinda.       ..not even the common courtesy to offer a reach around. /s
You will be fine tomorrow Bob..go find some varmint to take it out on.

Nice doji forming on the 6hr..

Some decent insight via your previous charts actually. Going bearish in these current conditions is sub optimal imo.

What exactly did they mention about LTC?
You mentioned LTC but they diversified into ETH, ADA, OMG, NEO?

Everybody loves chikun...come on man.

I have heard that Bitconnect has sold more than 50,000 Bitcoins into fiat one of the major causes of the crash of the market. Considering it's a hiyp/ponzi site they have no problem with selling their big batch of sell order into the market.

Source ?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2773051.0 here you go mate. Credits to the owner of the thread.

Meh...this is speculation..not fact. BCC is a shit show there is no doubt..but I have seen very few facts.

It does stand to reason that the Bitconnect scammers would be eager to begin the obfuscation of their haul, they probably began selling well before announcing their exit.

Indeed. What I fail to grasp is why they didnt fractional token it ala mtGox..unless its been going on for far longer than we realize.

Get a Nexus 4 ($100) and build AOSP yourself.
Where can I get those, are those old phones? How about more recent Nexus (Google) phones? or the Pixel 1 or Pixel 2?

I might get a Samsung Galaxy, old model, if I find one. They seem to be decent enough.

I have a unlocked rooted s7 edge that I use for international travel...love it.
4336  Economy / Speculation / Re: Now is the best time to invest in bitcoin, says digital currency hedge-fund mana on: January 24, 2018, 06:52:47 PM
You ruined it with "hedge fund manager" - no way am I going to listen to one of those about bitcoin.

There'll come a time when their opinion is worth a listen. These people are up to their ears in real world markets. Crypto will eventually consume these markets. That time is happening now.

*fixed syntax.
4337  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 24, 2018, 05:34:29 PM
So this range-bound wash trading is very interesting. It seems that for whatever reason, the futures market is intent on controlling the price within a narrow bound.

Good thing, or bad?

In my mind..whales are still accumulating...so its good imho. I dont know if I would go so far as to say we are coiling again...but there seems to be some compression in the ask walls. I am calling for a nice little spike within 36 hours.
4338  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 24, 2018, 05:16:50 PM
Thanks, but I have kind of an issue with companies telling me what forks I can and can not have.
With a phone I choose what to claim and not.

You go with that lack of replay protection, booooyyyiii !!

As far as I know, all the forks have replay protection. I would never touch a fork without replay protection.

OT

Some interesting mining data projections for 2018.

http://theminersunion.com/2018/01/04/q1-2018-bitcoin-mining-projections/

This is some commentary from Level1Tech that I think explain the relevant parts of the article.

Basically it has to do with TSCM(the foundry the produces Bitmains 16nm ASIC)and their quarterly earnings report.
